Background: Emphysematous osteomyelitis is a rare but fatal condition, caused by gas-forming bacteria. We reported a rare case of emphysematous osteomyelitis of left femur in a 27-year-old diabetic male, diagnosed on Tc99m methylene diphosphonate (MDP) single photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography (SPECT-CT) scintigraphy. The pattern of uptake in emphysematous osteomyelitis on Tc99m MDP SPECT-CT scintigraphy was not reported previously. Case Presentation: A 27-year-old diabetic male patient presented with history of pain in left thigh and fever for 10 days. He was referred to nuclear medicine department for Tc99m MDP bone scan. He had no history of trauma or surgery, and his radiograph of left femur was unremarkable at presentation. Tc99m MDP SPECT-CT scintigraphy showed abnormal uptake in femur with intraosseous air, pathognomic of emphysematous osteomyelitis. Further imaging by magnetic resonant imaging (MRI) showed edematous changes in the musculature of left thigh with marrow replacement changes in left femur favoring the diagnosis of emphysematous osteomyelitis. However, no bacterial growth was detected on blood culture due to prior administration of intravenous antibiotics. Conclusion: Tc99m MDP SPECT-CT scintigraphy is helpful in diagnosis of such rare conditions like emphysematous osteomyelitis, in addition to common pathologies of bone. Furthermore, this report is helpful for nuclear physicians to know about the pattern of uptake on planner bone scan and SPECT-CT images in such a rare infection of bone, by gas forming bacteria.

Background: Osteopoikilosis is a benign, uncommon disorder that is inherited by the autosomal dominant gene. Multiple benign enostoses are present in this specific kind of sclerosing skeletal dysplasia, which can be mistaken for osteoblastic skeletal metastases. Case Presentation: We present here a case of 50-year-old male patient with pain in lower back for 3 months. His pelvic X-ray showed few sclerotic rounded lesions in ilium, acetabulum and proximal femur. His MRI pelvis showed T1WI and T2WI hypo intense focal lesions in ilium and acetabulum. His 99mTc MDP bone scan was done showing no focal abnormal uptake in lesion reported on pelvic X-ray and MRI. These features are suggestive of Osteopoikilosis, ruling out osteoblastic skeletal metastasis. Conclusion: Osteopoikilosis is usually an incidental finding on radiograph. Both x-ray and MRI findings can mimic skeletal metastasis, but a normal bone scan can rule out metastasis and is useful if metastatic disease is thought to be a possibility.

Objectives: To investigate hepato-protective effect of ethanolic leave extract of Raphanus sativus against atorvastatin induced hepatotoxicity in albino rabbits. Study design: Experimental study Material and Method: This study conducted at department of Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The ethanolic extract of Raphanus sativus was prepared for hepatoprotective effect against hepatotoxicity produced by atorvastatin. Results: The results were compared with normal and experimental control. Serum was tested for ALT, AST, Alkaline Phosphatase and Bilirubin along with histological studies. Ethanolic extract of Raphanus sativus with 100mg/kg. of body weight dosage developed some changes representing hepatotoxicity but higher doses showed an increase in toxicity as observed on histologic sections. A reduction in fibrosis and cholestasis was observed which needs further evaluation. Conclusion: Ethanolic extract of raphanus sativus did not show any amelioration in the increased enzymes level however a reduction in cholestasis was observed as represented by decreases in alkaline phosphatase levels also confirmed by histological studies.
