Search

Physics of high-$T_c$ superconducting cuprates is obscured by the effect of strong electronic correlations. One way to overcome the problem is to seek for an exact solution at least within the small cluster and expand it to the whole crystal. Such an approach is in the heart of the cluster perturbation theory (CPT). Here we develop CPT for the dynamic spin and charge susceptibilities (spin-CPT and charge-CPT), within which the correlation effects are explicitly taken into account by the exact diagonalization. We apply spin-CPT and charge-CPT to the effective two-band Hubbard model for the cuprates obtained from the three-band Emery model and calculate one- and two-particle correlation functions, namely, spectral function and spin and charge susceptibilities. Doping dependence of the spin susceptibility was studied within spin-CPT and CPT-RPA that is the CPT generalization of the random phase approximation (RPA). Both methods produce the low energy response at four incommensurate wave vectors in qualitative agreement to the results of the inelastic neutron scattering on overdoped cuprates., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures

The magnetic and electronic structures of Fe4O5 have been investigated at ambient and high pressures via a combination of representation analysis, density functional theory (DFT+U) calculations, and M\"ossbauer spectroscopy. A few spin configurations corresponding to the different irreducible representations have been considered. The total-energy calculations reveal that the magnetic ground state of Fe4O5 corresponds to an orthogonal spin order. Depending on the magnetic propagation vector k two spin ordered phases with minimal energy differences are realized. The lowest energy magnetic phase is related to k = (0, 0, 0) and is characterized by the ferromagnetic ordering of the iron magnetic moments at prismatic sites along the b axis and antiferromagnetic ordering of iron moments at octahedral sites along the c axis. For the k = (1/2, 0, 0) phase, the moments in the prisms are antiferromagnetically ordered along the b axis and the moments in the octahedra are still antiferromagnetically ordered along the c axis. Under high pressure, the Fe4O5 exhibits magnetic transitions with corresponding electronic transitions of the metal-insulator type. At a critical pressure PC ~ 60 GPa the Fe ions at the octahedral sites undergo a high-spin to low-spin state crossover with a decrease in the unit-cell volume of ~ 4%, while the Fe ions at the prismatic sites remain in the high-spin state up to 130 GPa. Ultrafast quantum dynamics relaxation of a photoexcited state in a strongly correlated spin crossover system LaCoO3 under a sudden perturbation is considered with the density matrix generalized master equation. The magnetization and cobalt-oxygen bond length oscillations were found. The evolution of the electronic band structure during relaxation is calculated in the framework of the LDA+GTB method.

The effects associated with interatomic hoppings of excitons and the excitonic Bose condensate formation in the strongly correlated spin crossover systems are considered in the framework of the effective Hamiltonian for the two-band Kanamori model. The appearance of antiferromagnetic ordering due to the exciton order is found even in the absence of interatomic exchange interaction. The spectrum of excitonic excitations is calculated at various points of the "temperature vs. crystal field" phase diagram. Outside the region of exciton ordering, the spectrum has a gap, which vanishes at the boundary of the exciton condensate phase. The non-uniform spectral weight distribution over the Brillouin zone is found. The role of electron-phonon interaction is discussed as well., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures

Electronic structure and magnetic properties of Fe$_3$Se$_4$ are calculated using the density functional approach. Due to the metallic properties, magnetic moments of the iron atoms in two nonequivalent positions in the unit cell are different from ionic values for Fe$^{3+}$ and Fe$^{2+}$ and are equal to $M_1=2.071 \mu_B$ and $M_2=-2.042 \mu_B$, making the system ferrimagnetic. The total magnetic moment for the unit cell is $2.135 \mu_B$. Under isotropic compression, the total magnetic moment decreases non-monotonically and correlates with the non-monotonic dependence of the density of states at the Fermi level $N(E_F)$. For 7% compression, the magnetic order changes from the ferrimagnetic to the ferromagnetic. At 14% compression, the magnetic order disappears and the total magnetic moment becomes zero, leaving the system in a paramagnetic state. This compression corresponds to the pressure of 114 GPa. The magnetic ordering changes faster upon application of an isotropic external pressure due to the sizeable anisotropy of the chemical bondings in Fe$_3$Se$_4$. The ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic states occur under pressures of 5.0 and 8.0 GPa, respectively. In this work, the concentration and temperature dependences of the superconducting gap of the HTSC cuprate in the orthorhombic phase are obtained within the framework of the Hubbard model taking into account the exchange mechanism of pairing. The enhanced s*-wave component of the superconducting gap against the background of the prevailing d-wave component in a narrow range of hole concentrations in the overdoped region is found. To elucidate the reasons for such unusual behavior the electronic structure of the low-energy excitations and the structure of the contributions of the pair states to the superconducting gap in momentum space were investigated at different doping. It is shown that the presence of a shallow pocket in the region of the maximum value of the s*-wave component of the gap results in different symmetry of the superconducting gap in different regions of the k-space and an increase in the s*-wave component., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures

We consider how electron-phonon interaction influences the insulator-metal transitions driven by doping in the strongly correlated system. Using the polaronic version of the generalized tight-binding method, we investigate a multiband two-dimensional model taking into account both Holstein and Su-Schrieffer-Heeger types of electron-lattice contributions. For adiabatic ratio of the hopping parameter and the phonon field energy, different types of band structure evolution are observed in a wide electron-phonon parameter range. We demonstrate the relationship between transition features and such properties of the system as the polaron and bipolaron crossovers, pseudogap behavior of various origin, orbital selectivity, and the redistribution of the spectral weight due to the electron-phonon interaction., Comment: 6 pages with 4 figures

The magnetic contribution of the Co3+ ions in Co3BO5 has been investigated using the Co (K-edge) XMCD, dc magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements. The crystal structure of Co3BO5 single crystal has been solved in detail at the T range 296-703 K. The results have been supplemented by the GGA+U calculations., Comment: 38 pages, 15 figures

Within the multielectron model of magnetic insulator with spin crossover under high pressure we have studied the mean field phase diagrams in pressure temperature plane and dynamics of a sudden excited non equilibrium spin state. We obtain the different relaxation of the magnetization, high spin/low spin occupation numbers, and the metal oxygen bond length for different values of the external pressure. We found the long living oscillations of magnetization without pressure and at small external pressure. Close to crossover pressure the smooth relaxation is accompanied with a set of sharp strongly non linear oscillations of magnetization and HS/LS occupation numbers that are accompanied by the Franck Condon resonances.

Electron-phonon coupling, diagonal in a real space formulation, leads to polaron paradigm of smoothly varying properties. However, fundamental changes, namely the singular behavior of polarons, occur if non-diagonal pairing is involved into consideration. The study of polaron transformations and related properties of matter is of particular interest for realistic models, since competition between diagonal and non-diagonal electron-phonon contributions in the presence of other strong interactions can result in unconventional behavior of the system. Here we consider the multiband pd-model of cuprate superconductors with electron-phonon interaction and analyze the features of the systems that are caused by the competition of diagonal and non-diagonal electron-phonon contributions in the limit of strong electron correlations. Using the polaronic version of the generalized tight-binding method, we describe the evolution of the band structure, Fermi surface, density of states at Fermi level, and phonon spectral function in the space of electron-phonon parameters ranging from weak to strong coupling strength of the adiabatic limit. On the phase diagram of polaron properties we reveal two quantum phase transitions and show how electron-phonon interaction gives rise to Fermi surface transformation (i) from hole pockets to Fermi arcs and (ii) from hole to electron type of conductivity. We also demonstrate the emergence of new states in the phonon spectral function of the polaron and discuss their origin., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

To study non-Heisenberg effects in the vicinity of spin crossover in strongly correlated electron systems we derive an effective low-energy Hamiltonian for the two-band Kanamori model. It contains Heisenberg high-spin term proportional to exchange constant as well as low-spin term proportional to spin gap parameter $\varepsilon_s$. Using cluster mean field theory we obtain several non-Heisenberg effects. Near critical value of spin gap $\varepsilon^c_s$ there is a magnetic phase transition of first order. In the vicinity of $\varepsilon^c_s$ in the paramagnetic phase we observe non trivial behavior of the Curie constant in the paramagnetic susceptibility in the wide range of temperature. Reentrant temperature behavior of nearest-neighbor spin-spin correlations is observed at $\varepsilon_s > \varepsilon^c_s$. Finally, pressure-temperature magnetic phase diagram for ferroperriclase is obtained using the effective Hamiltonian., Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures

In the framework of cluster perturbation theory for the 2D Hubbard and Hubbard-Holstein models at low hole doping we have studied the effect of local and short-range correlations in strongly correlated systems on the anomalous features in the electronic spectrum by investigating the fine structure of quasiparticle bands. Different anomalous features of spectrum are obtained as the result of intrinsic properties of strongly correlated electron and polaron bands in the presence of short-range correlations. Particularly, features similar to the electron-like Fermi-pockets of cuprates at hole doping $p\sim0.1$ are obtained without ad hoc introducing a charge density wave order parameter within the Hubbard model in a unified manner with other known peculiarities of the pseudogap phase like Fermi-arcs, pockets, waterfalls, and kink-like features. The Fermi surface is mainly formed by dispersive quasiparticle bands with large spectral weight, formed by coherent low-energy exications. Within the Hubbard-Holstein model at moderate phonon frequencies we show that modest values of local electron-phonon interaction are capable of introducing low-energy kink-like features and affecting the Fermi surface by hybridization of the fermionic quasiparticle bands with the Franck-Condon resonances., Comment: 8 figures

Single crystalline Mn2-xFexBO4 with x = 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 grown by the flux method have been studied by means of X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy at both Mn and Fe K edges. The compounds were found to crystallize in an orthorhombic warwickite structure (sp. gr. Pnam). The magnetization data have revealed a spin-glass transition at TSG= 11, 14 and 18 K for x= 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7, respectively., Comment: 9 pages, 2 tables, 9 figures

In this work we investigate doping and temperature dependences of electronic structure of system with strong electronic correlations and strong electron-phonon interaction modeling cuprates in the frameworks of the three-band p-d-Holstein model by a polaronic version of the generalized tight binding (GTB) method. Within this approach the electronic structure is formed by polaronic quasiparticles constructed as excitations between initial and final polaronic multielectron states. Doping and temperature effects are taken into account by occupation numbers of local excited polaronic states and variations in the magnitude of spin-spin correlation functions. Both effects are manifested in the reconstruction of band structure, Fermi contours, density of states and redistribution of the spectral weight over the Hubbard polaron subbands. Doping leads to transformation of Fermi contour from small hole pockets around k=(pi/2,pi/2) with inhomogeneous spectral weight distribution at small hole concentration to large contour around k=(pi,pi) in the overdoped compound as a result of two quantum phase transitions. In the system with phonon subsystem and EPI doping results in the top of the valence band splitting off and new polaron subbands appearance. Temperature increasing in the system with doped holes and moderate EPI leads to formation of the flatband around k=(pi,pi) and transfer of the spectral weight to the splitted off top of the valence band., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, 22 references. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1611.05836

We suggest here the method of the mapping of DFT calculations on the multiorbital model in a following way: the parameters of the formulated multiorbital model should be determined from the requirement that the self-consistent charge and spin densities found from the ab initio and model calculations have to be as close to each other as possible. The analysis of the model allows for detailed understanding of the role played by different parameters of the model in the physics of interest. As an example of the approach we present the study of the effect of silicon atoms substitution by the iron atoms and vice versa on the magnetic properties in the iron silicide alpha-FeSi2. The DFT+GGA calculations are mapped to the model with intraatomic Coulomb and exchange interactions, hoppings to nearest and next nearest atoms and exchange of the delocalized electrons between iron atoms; the magnetic moments on atoms and charge densities of the material are found self-consistently within the Hartree-Fock approximation. We find that while the stoichiometric alpha-FeSi2 is nonmagnetic, the substitutions generate different magnetic structures. For example, the substitution of three Si atoms by the Fe atoms results in the ferrimagnetic structure whereas the substitution of four Si atoms by Fe atoms gives rise to either the nonmagnetic or the ferromagnetic state depending on the type of local enviroment of the substitutional Fe atoms. Besides, contrary to the commonly accepted statement that the destruction of the magnetic moment is controlled only by the number of Fe-Si nearest neighbors, we find that actually it is controlled by the Fe-Fe next-nearest-neighbors. This finding led us to the counterintuitive conclusion: an increase of Si concentration in Fe1-xSi2+x ordered alloys may lead to a ferromagnetism. This conclusion is confirmed by the calculation within GGA-to-DFT.

The effect of local environment on the formation of magnetic moments on Fe atoms in iron silicides are studied by combination of ab initio and model calculations. The suggested model includes all Fe d- and Si p-orbitals, intra-atomic Coulomb interactions, inter-atomic Fe-Fe exchange and hopping of electrons to nearest and next nearest neighboring atoms and takes into account all symmetries within the Slater-Koster scheme. The parameters of the model are found from the requirement that self-consistent moments on atoms and density of states found from ab initio and model calculations within the Hartree-Fock approximation are close to each other as much as possible. Contrary to the commonly accepted statement that an increase of the Si concentration within nearest environment of Fe atoms in the ordered Fe3Si and FexSi1-x alloys leads to a decrease of Fe magnetic moment we find that a crucial role in the formation of magnetic moments is played by second coordination sphere of Fe atoms. Particularly, the Fe atoms have higher magnetic moments in amorphous films compared to the epitaxial ones due to decrease in the number of iron-atoms in the next nearest environment. Both our model and ab initio calculations confirm existence of known spin crossover with pressure and predict second crossover at higher pressure, Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures

The multielectron LDA+GTB approach has been developed to calculate electronic structure of strongly correlated cuprates. At low energies the effective Hamiltonian of the $t - t' - t" - {t_ \bot } - {J^ * } - {J_ \bot }$-model has been derived with parameters coming from the ab initio calculation for LSCO. The electronic structure of LSCO has been calculated self-consistently with the short-range antiferromagnetic order for various doping level. Two Lifshitz-type quantum phase transitions with Fermi surface topology changes have been found at dopings $x_{c1}=0.15$ and $x_{c2}=0.24$. Its effect on normal and superconducting properties has been calculated. The interatomic exchange parameter and its pressure dependence has been calculated within LDA+GTB scheme. The magnetic mechanisms of d-wave pairing induced by static and dynamical spin correlations are discussed. Simultaneous treatment of magnetic and phonon pairing results in the conclusion that both contributions are of the same order. For two layer cuprates like YBCO the interlayer hopping and exchange effects on the electronic structure and doping dependence of $T_c$ is discussed as well as the Coulomb interaction induced mechanism of pairing., Comment: 51 pages. v2 - added references to composite operator method

The three band p-d model of strongly correlated electrons interacting with optical phonon via diagonal and off-diagonal electron-phonon interaction is considered within cluster perturbation theory. At first step the exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian of CuO4 cluster results in the construction of local polaronic eigenstates |p> with hole numbers nh=0,1,2 per unit cell. The inter cluster hoppings and interactions are exactly written in terms of Hubbard operators X(pq)= |p>. The Fermi type single electron quasiparticle dispersion and spectral weight are calculated for the undoped antiferromagnetic parent insulator like La2CuO4. The quasiparticle dispersion of Hubbard polarons is determined by a hybridization of the several Hubbard subbands with local Franck-Condon resonances. For small electron-phonon interaction the conductivity band is stronger renormalized then the valence band. Nevertheless for large electron-phonon interaction both bands are strongly renormalized with quasiparticle localization. Effect of partial compensation of diagonal and off-diagonal electron-phonon interaction at intermediate coupling is found., Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables

The Mn2BO4 single crystals have been grown using the flux technique. The careful study crystal structure and magnetic properties have been carried out. The antiferromagnet transition at TN = 26 K has been traced through the dc magnetization and specific heat temperature dependences. The magnetic uniaxial anisotropy has been detected with easy axis of magnetization lying in ab-plane. A reduction of the effective magnetic moment value is assigned to the non-quenched orbital moment of Jahn-Teller Mn3+ ions. Single crystalline MgFeBO_4, Mg_0.5Co_0.5FeBO_4 and CoFeBO_4 have been grown by the flux method. The samples have been characterized by X-ray spectral analysis, X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra have been measured at the Fe andCoK-edges over a wide temperature range (6.5 - 300 K). The composition, the charge state and local environment of both Fe and Co atoms have been determined. The effects of Mg substitution by Co on the local structural distortions have been revealed experimentally and the M-O bond anisotropy has been found., Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures, 4 tables

In many cases the standard perturbation approach appears to be too simple to describe precisely the angle resolved photoemission spectrum of strongly correlated electron system. In particular, to describe the momentum asymmetry observed in photoemission spectra of high-Tc cuprates a phenomenological approach based on extremely correlated Fermi-liquid model has been recently introduced. In this paper we analyze the general structure of the Green function of quasiparticles in strongly correlated electron systems and stress that it is defined not only by the self-energy of Hubbard quasiparticles but also by a strength operator. We show that the later leads to an additional odd momentum contribution to the spectral function and alone can explain the observed asymmetry. So, the asymmetry of the ARPES spectra can be a measure of the strength of electron correlations in materials., Comment: 4 pages

We present measurements and calculations of the momentum distribution of electrons emitted during the ion-atom collision 10 keV/u $He^{2+}+He \rightarrow He^{+} + He^{2+} + e^{-}$, which show rich structures for ion scattering angles above 2 mrad arising dominantly from two-electron states. Our calculations reveal that minima in the measured distributions are zeros in the electronic probability density resulting from vortices in the electronic current.
