Ovarian Brenner tumors, accounting for ∼5% of overall ovarian epithelial neoplasm, are often reported in association with mucinous neoplasm. Histogenetically, the two tumors are thought to arise from similar precursors. To date, fewer than 60 borderline Brenner tumors alone have been reported, and the concomitant presence of atypical proliferative components in Brenner and mucinous tumors is even rarer. Therefore, the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients with the borderline Brenner tumors alone or coexisting with mucinous neoplasm are extremely limited. Herein, we report a unique case of a 53-year-old woman with a unilateral ovarian borderline Brenner tumor associated with focal atypical mucinous epithelial proliferation and her clinical presentations. The clinicopathological features of the tumor are documented and the literature review along with the clinical molecular advances are summarized in this study.

Background Ovarian mucinous cystadenomas with situs inversus totalis (SIT) are infrequent in pubertal girls. Surgical techniques on their treatment without affecting ovary anatomical and physiological function have always been a great challenge. Case A 15-year-old girl presented with abdominal distension and pain due to some huge growths. Computed tomography imaging showed that the heart and whole abdomen viscera were inversely located. Two big low-density masses were found in the abdominopelvic cavity. An exploratory laparotomy was performed and two tumors were removed. Pathology confirmed a mucinous cystadenoma.

Mucinous tumors account approximately for 15% of all primary ovarian epithelial neoplasms. Ovarian mucinous tumors with mural nodules are rare surface epithelial-stromal tumorswhich can be of three types, “sarcoma-like”, sarcoma or anaplastic carcinoma. Mural nodules of anaplastic carcinoma were first described in 1982 by Prat et al following which approximately fifty cases have been reported to date and in those cases, only one has been associated with benign mucinous tumors. The current case report is from a 50-year-oldpostmenopausal woman who presented to the gynecology outpatient department with complaints of abdominal pain and distension for the past five months. On histopathological examination, a diagnosis of Mucinous cystadenoma with focal atypia and mural nodule of anaplastic carcinoma was made and confirmed with immunohistochemistry.

Abdominal pseudocysts are common complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS). We report the case of a 37-year-old woman treated by VPS for congenital obstructive hydrocephalus, who presented shunt dysfunction related to a voluminous abdominal cyst initially diagnosed as cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst. The cyst was drained and the VPS was removed after endoscopic third ventriculocisternostomy (ETV). A few months later, a large new abdominal cyst appeared and was operated on. Diagnosis was rectified as massive ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. In any intra-abdominal cyst, differential diagnoses need considering to avoid mis-diagnosis in shunted patients, especially if the cyst is very large. The etiology of the hydrocephalus should also be investigated in case of shunt dysfunction. Even in case of longstanding shunt, ETV can be an alternative to shunt revision surgery in obstructive hydrocephalus, enabling VPS withdrawal and treatment of the hydrocephalus.

Acute urinary retention rarely occurs in women, and is only infrequently caused by a pelvic mass. We describe a case of acute urinary retention caused by a large ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. Point of care ultrasound characterized and localized the lesion, while computerized tomography demonstrated the anatomic distortions resulting in urinary retention. The patient's symptoms resolved immediately following a laparoscopic right salpingo-oophorectomy with complete tumor removal.

Objective Osteosarcoma as a mural nodule in the ovary is extremely rare. We aimed to describe a case of a mural nodule with features of an osteosarcoma arising in an ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. Case report The 65-year-old woman presented with progressive abdominal swelling and poor intake. Image studies showed a huge (diameter, >30 cm) intra-abdominal multiloculated cystic lesion, suspected to be an ovarian tumor. She underwent unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with no postoperative adjuvant therapy. She was disease-free at 16-month follow-up. Conclusion Osteosarcoma presenting as a primary ovarian neoplasm is rare, either as a pure osteosarcoma or arising from a teratoma. However, two osteosarcoma cases occurring arising from a mural nodule in an ovarian mucinous neoplasm have been reported. There is no consensus regarding the treatment strategy for osteosarcomatous mural nodules in mucinous tumors because of its rarity. More case studies are needed before its pathogenesis can be fully understood.

If not detected early, they have the potential to grow to a substantial size and can present with huge abdominal distention leading to various compression symptoms. Mucinous cystadenomas most commonly occur in the third to sixth decades of life, and rarely occur in extremes of age. The reported incidence of giant ovarian cystadenoma in postmenopausal women is low or relatively unknown due to widespread use of ultrasound and other radiological imaging modalities these days. Here, we report a case of giant mucinous cystadenoma in a 72-year-old postmenopausal woman with multiple comorbidities. Case Report: We present the case of a 72-year-old postmenopausal high-risk patient who presented with a huge abdominal distention which started gradually 1 year before. Abdominopelvic ultrasound showed a left giant multiloculated abdominal cyst. An intact 27-kg ovarian cyst was removed, and a total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) along with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) was performed. The final histopathological report showed a benign ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. Conclusions: Mucinous cystadenoma is a benign neoplastic disease that can reach a massive size. They are rare in the post-menopausal age group, but when they do occur, they pose a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. This case report highlights the importance of early detection and management of adnexal masses in postmenopausal high-risk patients to decrease preoperative and postoperative complications and improve quality of life.

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma (PRMC) is a rare cystic lesion occurring mostly in women with a histological analogy to ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. The tumor is difficult to detect during early stages because it causes symptoms only when it grows large enough to be palpable or to displace the adjacent internal organs. The primary treatment is resection, but the optimal surgical approach remains poorly known. We report the case of a 41-year-old woman who complained of right-sided intermittent abdominal pain. Imaging studies revealed a right retroperitoneal smooth cystic lesion (50 mm) without invasive features. Laparoscopic resection was then performed. During surgery, a right retroperitoneal mass with no connection to neighboring tissues was found. The tumor, wrapped by retroperitoneal fat tissue, was resected and removed from the body without exposure. Furthermore, histopathological findings indicated PRMC. The patient was discharged without any complications and observed to have no recurrence 6 months postoperatively.

Introduction and importance In children, mature cystic teratomas are the most common ovarian tumors. Mucinous cystadenomas are rarely seen. Further, the recurrence of mucinous cystadenomas is very rare. This report describes a case of ovarian mucous cystadenoma in an adolescent that recurred 1 year after surgery. Case presentation A 13-year-old patient, with a sizable ovarian tumor underwent laparoscopic-assisted cystectomy. On histopathology, the tumor was diagnosed to be an ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. The mucinous cystadenoma recurred 13 months after surgery and subsequently laparoscopic right adnexectomy was performed. Clinical discussion It has been reported that intraoperative cyst rupture and cystectomy instead of adnexectomy are risk factors for mucinous cystadenoma recurrence. Close follow-up is required for post-cystectomy patients because of the possibility of recurrence. Conclusion The risk of recurrence and the preservation of fertility should be carefully considered when deciding on treatment in young patients with a mucinous cystadenoma., Highlights • Mucinous cystadenomas are uncommon in children and their recurrence is very rare. • Patients undergoing cystectomy should be carefully followed up for recurrence. • The risk of recurrence is a key factor when deciding on treatment. • The preservation of fertility should be considered when treating younger patients.

An ovarian mucinous cystadenoma is a common benign tumour of the ovary that tends to reach very large sizes. Although traditional morcellation in the abdominal cavity is largely avoided in gynaecologic surgery, several authors have proposed other systems and techniques for the removal of large masses without resorting to laparotomy. We proposed an extremely minimally invasive technique to remove a large mass with a very low suspicion of malignancy, and created a video demonstration of the procedure. In this short film we illustrate our novel technique using only 2 laparoscopic ports, which maximizes both cosmesis and speed of recovery. The technique is not a completely closed system, therefore the potential for spreading an undiagnosed malignancy still exists. Accordingly, the authors do not suggest this technique for masses with a high potential for malignancy. However, in properly consented patients where there is very little suspicion for malignancy, our technique may be a reasonable option to promote fast recovery and provide excellent cosmesis.

Mucinous cystadenomas are among the most common benign ovarian neoplasms. They are known for their massive size causing compressive effects ranging from pressure, pain, bloating, and urinary symptoms. Over time, these adnexal masses can lead to fatal complications, such as ovarian torsion or hemorrhage. Incidental findings of these tumors are common as many of these patients are asymptomatic. Pelvic examinations and imaging studies can be used to further diagnose symptomatic patients and aid physicians in developing an appropriate course of treatment. We report a rare case of a large mucinous cystadenoma, with a size of 25 × 25 cm and concurrent management of postmenopausal bleeding. We present the data from the admission of the patient to her discharge, including history and physical examination, diagnostic reports, transabdominal ultrasound, CT scan, surgical evaluation, and surgical-pathology reports. Abdominal pain can present in a variety of different scenarios, and ovarian masses only represent a small portion of the differentials. Mucinous cystadenomas constitute an even smaller percentage of these ovarian growths. As discussed in this case report, a large ovarian mucinous cystadenoma was compressing the surrounding structures resulting in a wide array of symptoms. The case describes the importance of extensive diagnostic evaluation and prompt surgical management of these ovarian tumors. It also brings attention to the significance of diagnosing a medical condition such as postmenopausal bleeding promptly to avoid potential negative outcomes.

Ovarian masses larger than 100 pounds are rarely encountered in developed countries given advancements in early diagnosis and treatment. Their successful resections pose unique surgical and anesthetic challenges. An otherwise healthy 38-year-old para 1 woman developed a 50 × 60 cm pelvic mass. An exploratory laparotomy, left salpingo-oophorectomy and anterior abdominal wall reconstruction were performed. A total of 60 L of cystic fluid were drained. Close monitoring of hemodynamics and massive volume resuscitation required intensive care. Inpatient physical rehabilitation reinstated independent mobility. Final pathology revealed benign ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. A multidisciplinary approach in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative stages of management optimizes patient outcomes.

Background/aim A subset of carcinomas metastatic to the ovary can exhibit growth patterns closely resembling ovarian mucinous cystadenoma and borderline tumor. They can be misinterpreted as underlying primary ovarian mucinous tumors and can be erroneously used to suggest that the carcinomatous component arises from mucinous precursor lesions. Materials and methods We investigated the clinicopathological characteristics of 11 cases of metastatic carcinoma that had metastasized from colorectal and pancreatobiliary carcinoma and mimicked primary ovarian mucinous tumors. Results The patient age ranged from 37 to 81 years old. Seven patients presented to gynecologists with non-specific pelvic symptoms similar to those of primary ovarian tumors. The primary tumor was identified before the detection of the ovarian lesion in 6 cases, synchronously in 5, and postoperatively in 1 case. The ovarian tumors were bilateral in 6 cases. The greatest dimension of the metastatic tumors ranged from 4.8 to 23.0 cm. Multinodularity was present in 7 cases, and surface involvement was identified in 5 cases. An infiltrative growth pattern was present, at least focally, in 8 cases. Six and 2 cases exhibited cystadenomatous and borderline-like growth patterns, respectively. Conclusion Although the diagnosis of metastatic tumors to the ovary is possible in most cases on the basis of clinical presentation and standard diagnostic criteria, their differential diagnosis may be problematic because of morphological patterns that strikingly overlap with those of primary ovarian benign, borderline, and malignant mucinous tumors. The possibility of metastases should be considered when evaluating ovarian mucinous tumors.

Malignant transformation of the fallopian tube mucosa, followed by exfoliation of malignant cells onto ovarian and/or peritoneal surfaces, has been implicated as the origin of most pelvic high-grade serous carcinoma. Whether a parallel pathway exists for pelvic low-grade serous tumors [ovarian serous borderline tumor (SBT) and low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSC)] remains to be fully elucidated. The literature is challenging to interpret due to variation in the diagnostic criteria and terminology for cytologically low-grade proliferations of the fallopian tube mucosa, as well as variation in fallopian tube specimen sampling. Recently, a candidate fallopian tube precursor to ovarian SBT, so-called papillary tubal hyperplasia, was described in advanced stage patients. The current study was designed to identify fallopian tube mucosal proliferations unique to patients with low-grade serous ovarian tumors (serous cystadenoma, SBT, LGSC) and to determine if they may represent precursors to the ovarian tumors. Fallopian tubes were thinly sliced and entirely examined microscopically, including all of the fimbriated and nonfimbriated portions of the tubes, from patients with ovarian serous cystadenoma (35), SBT (61), and LGSC (11) and from a control population of patients with ovarian mucinous cystadenoma (28), mature cystic teratoma (18) or uterine leiomyoma (14). The slides of the fallopian tubes were examined in randomized order, without knowledge of the clinical history or findings in the ovaries or other organs. Alterations of the mucosa of the fallopian tube were classified as type 1: nonpapillary proliferation of cytologically bland tubal epithelium exhibiting crowding, stratification, and/or tufting without papillary fibrovascular cores or as type 2: papillary alterations consisting of a fibrovascular core lined by a cytologically bland layer of tubal epithelium. A third abnormality, type 3, consisted of detached intraluminal papillae, buds, or nests of epithelium that cytologically resembled the epithelial component of SBT or LGSC. Mucosal proliferations were identified in subsets of all populations, including the control populations. Overall, type 1 proliferations were in 28% to 61% of all patients and type 2 alterations in 4% to 16%. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of type 1 or type 2 proliferations between the class of ovarian serous tumors (benign, SBT, LGSC), between early and advanced stage SBT, or between patients with any ovarian serous tumor and the control population of nonserous diagnoses. Type 3 alterations were only identified in patients with advanced stage SBT/LGSC and not in any early stage SBT or cystadenoma. These findings suggest that type 3 alterations floating in the fallopian tube lumen represent exfoliation of tumor cells from ovarian and/or peritoneal origin. Our study did not identify a mucosal-based proliferation of the fallopian tubes that was specific to ovarian low-grade serous tumors. Cytologically bland mucosal proliferations appear to be common in fallopian tubes from patients of all ages and unrelated to ovarian tumorigenesis. A consensus on diagnostic criteria and terminology for these types of proliferations is needed, as well as further study into their etiology, including possible association with hormonal environment.

Objective: Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis is a rare autoimmune and paraneoplastic encephalitis caused by the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor antibody which is related to tumors, such as teratomas of the ovaries. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of Anti-NMDAR encephalitis associated with ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. Case report: A 23-year-old woman with a flu-like illness, confused mental status, and behavioral changes presented to the hospital. A right-sided ovarian tumor was detected during the work-up and was suspected to be a teratoma that might have caused the encephalitis. A laparoscopic right salpingo-oophorectomy (RSO) was performed. Histopathological examination revealed a mucinous cystadenoma. She recovered gradually and had complete resolution of symptoms after surgical removal of the mucinous cystadenoma and immunotherapy. Conclusion: Even though anti-NMDAR encephalitis is caused by ovarian teratoma because it contains various types of tissues, ovarian tumors in anti-NMDAR encephalitis may not be limited to ovarian teratomas. Mural nodules in cystic ovarian neoplasms are very rare. Mural nodules are localized thickened nodular areas occurring in the wall of cystic mucinous or serous tumors of the ovary. Histologically they may be benign reactive sarcoma like lesions or malignant lesions like sarcomas and anaplastic carcinomas. We report a case of mural nodule of anaplastic carcinoma in a mucinous cystadenoma of ovary.

Ovarian tumors are commonly seen in adults and rare in children. Incidence in children is about 2.6 cases per 1,00,000 girls. Most common ovarian mass in children is benign functional cyst. Epithelial tumors account for 8-10% of ovarian tumors. Most common epithelial tumor is Cystadenoma. Mucinous cystadenoma occurs in 3rd -6th decade of life. We report a 10-year-old Premenarchal girl presenting with abdominal distension and discomfort. On examination the entire abdomen was occupied by a firm mass. CT imaging showed a large multiloculated cystic lesion arising from the right ovary. The child underwent right salphingo-oophrectomy. The biopsy of mass was suggestive of benign mucinous cystadenoma. The child is on regular follow up. At 1 year follow up child is doing well.

Mucinous cystadenomas are a common benign neoplasm of the ovaries that can grow much larger than other adnexal masses; they are recognized as precursors of ovarian cancer and may slowly transform to borderline tumors and invasive ovarian cancer. Prompt and accurate treatment is essential as these tumors can grow to massive sizes and be potentially lethal if left untreated. Health care providers must understand the patient, their expectations and their problems; without proper communication and follow-up, any treatment is destined to disappoint. We present a case of a 76-year-old female with limited access to health care. She presented with a giant cystadenoma that grew over 1 year. Complete resection was decided and the patient underwent complete recovery. On follow-up control patient is doing well.

Endocrine cell micronests (ECMs) have been described only twice previously in the ovary, both in association with mucinous neoplasms exhibiting intraepithelial endocrine cell hyperplasia. We report a 31-yr-old patient with a mucinous cystadenoma in which ECMs were distributed in the stroma surrounding degenerate glandular elements. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated only sparse endocrine cells within the neoplastic glands. We postulate that the ECMs in this case reflected relative preservation of endocrine elements in the context of epithelial atrophy, a process more commonly encountered in gastrointestinal pathology. Ovarian ECMs should also be distinguished from stromal sex cord proliferations and tumor microinvasion.

Introduction/Background Mucinous cystadenoma (MC) is a common benign ovarian neoplasm. The most important feature of a MC is that it can reach much larger sizes than any other adnexial mass. Methodology In this case report a MC arises from right ovary with a diameter of 40 cm is presented. Results A 38 year old patient presented with recurrent abdominal pain for 2 months. Physical examination revealed severe abdominal distention and laboratory results showed CA 125 was 152 U/ml. Abdominal tomography revealed a massive cystic mass with no solid component and a diameter of 40 cm (figure 1). Midline laparotomy was performed. In exploration, a smooth surfaced mass derived from the right ovary and extending to the bottom of the liver is observed (figure 2). Mass was partially adhered to omentum and liver. Salphingoooferectomy was performed. Frozen section was reported as mucinous cystadenoma. Apendectomy was performed. The patient was 72 kilograms before the operation and 57 kilograms in postoperative day 1. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of benign mucinous cystadenoma. Conclusion Diferential diagnosis of adnexial masses is difficult due to its extended spectrum and therefore evaluation and management is challenging. Giant ovarian cystadenomas are rarely observed today because of improved imaging techniques. In most cases, USG examination can reveal a complex adnexal mass, however large ovarian cysts require an evaluation of abdomen. As in our case, we performed a CT scan and preoperative evaluation of tumor markers to exclude malignancy. As a conclusion, benign mucinous tumors can reach excessive diameters when neglected and can be a challenge to surgeon. Disclosure Nothing to disclose.

We describe a patient with bilateral cystic tumors of the pelvis. The left one rapidly grew during pregnancy and combined with the right one, whose clinical course made diagnosis difficult. A pregnant woman with a history of laparotomy was referred to us due to suspected bilateral pelvic cysts. The left-sided cyst had rapidly grown to 27 cm in diameter and merged with the right cyst, forming a large cyst occupying the entire pelvic cavity in the third trimester. Considering this rapid growth, cesarean section and resection of the cyst were performed at 37th week. The resected cyst consisted of two components: a large unilocular cyst containing serous fluid and a multilocular cyst suggestive of ovarian mucinous cystadenoma in the right ovary. The wall of the former largely lacked lining epithelium, but it was partly continuous with the latter mucinous epithelium. Immunohistochemically, estrogen and progesterone receptors were focally positive in the cyst wall, suggesting that pregnancy-associated sex-hormones may have contributed to the rapid growth of the cyst. We diagnosed this condition as a peritoneal inclusion cyst margining with a right ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. Peritoneal inclusion cyst should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a rapidly growing pelvic mass during pregnancy.

Introducción: El cistoadenoma mucinoso de ovario, es un tumor frecuente de aquellos; que provienen del epitelio celómico superficial, el 85% son benignos, el 6% son de bajo potencial maligno, y un 9% son tumores invasivos. Macroscópicamente pueden alcanzar dimensiones gigantes, el diámetro promedio varía de 15–30cm. Habitualmente el cuadro clínico puede ser inespecífico ya que producen pocos síntomas, los más frecuentes consisten en distensión abdominal, dolor de tipo opresivo en hipogastrio, así como síntomas urinarios y gastrointestinales. La cirugía laparoscopía o laparotomía exploradora permite realizar el diagnóstico y al mismo tiempo ser el tratamiento definitivo, logrando extirpar la tumoración completa sin complicaciones. Objetivo: Describir un caso clínico de un paciente joven, que presenta un tumor de ovario (cistoadenoma mucinoso), realizando una revisión adecuada y actualizada de la literatura. Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo retrospectivo, presentación de caso clínico. Resultados: Caso clínico de un paciente joven de 18 años, sexo femenino, que presenta una masa abdominal de 7 meses de evolución con aumento progresivo de tamaño acompañándose de dolor abdominal difuso ocasional de moderada intensidad, EVA 7/10, sin causa probable; por lo cual requirió evaluación médica con exámenes complementarios y procedimiento quirúrgico inmediato. Se realizó una laparotomía exploratoria urgente, con exéresis de masa y anexectomía derecha, encontrándose: masa tumoral gigante que ocupa casi totalidad de cavidad abdominal, de aproximadamente 40cm x30cm diámetro, con un peso de 8455 gr, que compromete trompa uterina derecha. Conclusiones: El cistoadenoma mucinoso, es un tumor de ovario, en su mayor parte benigno, que debe ser diagnosticado adecuada y oportunamente; para brindar un tratamiento, mediante una resolución quirúrgica, encaminado a evitar múltiples complicaciones y disminuir así significativamente la morbimortalidad de las pacientes.

Epithelial ovarian tumours are rare in the adolescent age group, accounting for less than 15% of overall ovarian malignancy. Of this, one-fourth of them are mucinous in nature. Mucinous cystadenomas, being precursors of borderline and invasive ovarian tumours, can reach to size as large as 15-30 cm in diameter without having malignant potential. Also, intraoperative management of such large abdominal mass can be challenging. We present a case of a giant unilateral 12 kg mucinous cystadenoma in a 13-year-old young girl, that grew over a period of 1 year. She underwent left salpingo-oophorectomy after decompression of the mass without any complications.

Introduction: Retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma is an extremely rare benign entity whose pathogenesis has not been well understood. The clinical presentation and symptoms vary greatly and depend largely on the size and location of the lesion. Objective: To describe a clinical case of an infected retroperitoneal ovarian cyst as a cause of recurrent peritonitis. Material and methods: Retrospective descriptive study, presentation of a clinical case of an infected retroperitoneal ovarian cyst as a cause of recurrent peritonitis. Results: The case of a woman with a clinical picture of pain in the lower hemiabdomen of 15 days of evolution irradiated towards the inguinal region and right thigh, accompanied by thermal rise, presents two previous laparoscopic surgeries for acute appendicitis plus acute cholecystitis and abscess in the fossa. right iliac and pelvis 45 and 30 days ago respectively. A CT scan was performed, finding a heterogeneous mass in the retroperitoneum. An exploratory laparotomy revealed an abscessed right retroperitoneal ovarian cyst, with vascular compromise, for which an en bloc excision of the ovarian, ovary and right fallopian tube was performed. The histopathological result reports ovarian mucinous cystadenoma without signs of malignancy. Conclusions: The case of a woman with a clinical picture of pain in the lower hemiabdomen of 15 days of evolution irradiated towards the inguinal region and right thigh, accompanied by thermal rise, presents two previous laparoscopic surgeries for acute appendicitis plus acute cholecystitis and abscess in the fossa. right iliac and pelvis 45 and 30 days ago respectively. A CT scan was performed, finding a heterogeneous mass in the retroperitoneum. An exploratory laparotomy revealed an abscessed right retroperitoneal ovarian cyst, with vascular compromise, for which an en bloc excision of the ovarian, ovary and right fallopian tube was performed. The histopathological result reports ovarian mucinous cystadenoma without signs of malignancy

A 26-year-old, otherwise healthy female presented to the Emergency Room for the evaluation of abdominal pain. It was immediately apparent that she had a massively distended abdomen. History revealed progressive abdominal distension over several years. Evaluation for pregnancy was negative and a computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a 38 × 32 × 23 cm septated cystic mass. Careful controlled partial needle decompression of the cyst, removing 18.5 l of fluid, was followed by a mini-laparotomy with complete removal of a multi-loculated cystic ovarian mass approximately 45 lb in weight. Pathology was consistent with mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary in association with a mature cystic teratoma. This surgical technique of percutaneous drainage of the cyst, followed by mini-laparotomy is a valuable example of a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment modality for giant ovarian mucinous cystadenomas.

Introduction: Benign tumors of the ovary can generally be divided into pseudo-tumor lesions that may be inflammatory or occurring by secretion in the already existing cavity, as well as genuine neoplasia that increase by increasing the number of cells. Real neoplasia of the ovaries originate from normal components of the ovary (epithelium, connective tissue, stroma, germinative cells, etc.). Mucinous cystadenoma is an ovarian tumor that occurs in 10-20% of all ovarian epithelial neoplasms. In most cases, benign is 85%. It is mostly one-sided. Case report: We present a 43 years old women, who came to the clinic at a later stage in tumor growth. The lower part of the abdomen is evident, it is 30 cm above the chest level. After receiving on the clinic, a complete clinical, laboratory and radiological treatment was performed. After conducting clinical trials, it was concluded that surgery was performed. It was done tumor extirpation and the right adnexectomy with medial infra and supra-umbilical excision. After the ex-tempore confirmation that it was a benign tumor, the operation was brought to end. Early postoperative course passed neatly. The patient was fired from the clinic. By pathohistological analysis it was obtained that this is a mucinous cystadenoma of right ovary. Conclusion: Unilateral oophorectomy (adnexectomy) is certainly the right choice in treating a patient with mucinous cystadenoma. Therapy at giants cystadenoma is always surgical. Whether the surgery will be limited to adnexectomy one-sided or double-sided, or total hysterectomy, depends on the age of the patient.

A 13-year-old adolescent girl with chronic abdominal distention was referred to the pediatric emergency department after the outpatient workup suggested moderate ascites. Point-of-care ultrasonography performed by the emergency physicians ruled out ascites, instead demonstrating a well-circumscribed cystic mass subsequently identified as an ovarian mucinous cystadenoma.

Mucinous cystadenoma (MC) of the ovary is an unilateral, multilocular cystic benign epithelial tumor. Supposed to be hormone responsive, MC reaches huge sizes during pregnancy. Aortocaval compression is common during pregnancy, especially when the pregnant woman is in the supine position. However, the compression recovers with a change in position. The authors report the first case of a huge mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary complicating pregnancy and causing virilization, premature labor, and persistent supine hypotensive syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: To report the occurrence of a rare case of a huge benign ovarian tumour (M ucinous cystadenoma) with pregnancy. METHODS: The data was collected by history - taking, clinical examination, laboratory investigations, transabdominal ultrasonographic examination, and by histo - pathological study of the excised surgical specimen. RESULTS: The case was reported as a rare massive ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. CONCLUSIONS: This case report emphasizes the significance of thorough evaluation of all pregnant women presenting with ovarian tumors. Although the condition is extremely rare, it is potentially dangerous in its massive form if not timely diagnosed and managed properly. It is concluded that ovarian cyst in pregnancy must be followed - up properly. Early diagnosis and appropriate intervention is associated with best feto maternal outcome. With the increasing awareness of such conditions, more cases can be detected and reported early

Giant ovarian adenomas are rarely observed today because of early diagnosis and treatment. Mucinous cystadenomas is a kind of tumor that mostly causes the ovary to enlarge. Theu can present with various and non-specific clinical manifestations such as deep vein thrombosis. The primary symptoms of giant ovarian tumors are abdominal enlargement and distension. Therefore, making the correct preoperative diagnosis is sometimes difficult. The appropriate treatment must include oncologic procedures and a multidisciplinary approach to minimalize complications and save the patient’s life. Herein, we report a woman aged 53 years with a 27-kg ovarian mucinous cystadenoma that presented as a left popliteal vein thrombosis.

Objective To describe the case of the most hyperandrogenaemic ovarian mucinous cystadenoma reported to date. Methods We present the clinical, laboratory and radiologic findings in a patient with an unusual diagnosis according to age and the clinical behaviour of the tumour, as well as a review of relevant literature. Results A 77-year-old women came to our consult because of fronto-parietal alopecia and an augmentation of the abdominal perimeter since 1 year ago. Clitoromegaly was observed during the physical examination. Hormonal analysis showed elevated testosterone and dehydroepiandrostenerone-sulphate levels (659 ng/dL and 1950 ng/ml, respectively), and imaging examination described an andexal cystic mass dependent on the right ovary. Pathological diagnosis was “mucinous cystoadenoma”. After surgery, clinical and analytical alterations were normalized. Conclusion Although ovarian mucinous cystadenomas are classically classified as “nonfunctional” tumours, they exceptionally can act as functional, and produce testosterone levels as high as directly secreting hormones or germ cell tumours.

Ovarian mucinous cystadenoma is a benign tumour that arises from the surface epithelium of the ovary. It tends to be huge in size if not detected early. We describe a 32 year old woman (para 1+0) presented with marked abdominal distension, discomfort and vague pain in the abdomen with dyspepsia, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and irregular menstruation for last three months with the suspicion of pregnancy. On examination no findings were in favour of pregnancy, rather an ill defined abdominal mass about 30 weeks pregnancy size was found. Transabdominal USG revealed a big multiloculated ovarian cyst of about 25x20 cm. On laparotomy a huge cystic mass was noticed arising from left ovary. The cyst wall was smooth, intact and without any external projection though adherent with the left fallopian tube and left salpingo-oophorectomy was done. Histopathological examination revealed an ovarian cyst compatible with mucinous cystadenoma. Such giant ovarian tumours have become rare in current practice. This case report emphasizes the significance of thorough evaluation of all women presented with non specific complaints like vague abdominal pain or simple dyspepsia. Although the condition is rare, it is potentially dangerous in the massive form if not timely diagnosed and managed properly. The giant mucinous cystadenoma is a rare ovarian neoplasm with benign biological behavior, characterized by a large tumor volume. Delayed diagnosis can cause serious complications such as rupture, infection and malignant transformation. In this article, and based on literature review, we will discuss the case of a giant mucinous cystadenoma in a 54-year-old woman treated surgically by a total hysterectomy with bilateral adnexectomy

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) is a tumour marker found to be elevated in some ovarian tumours. We share our experience with a 55-year-old postmenopausal lady with unusually high CA19-9 levels arising from a benign mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary. The levels returned to normal eight weeks following staging laparotomy and a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy. This report shows rare and significant elevation of CA 19-9 levels with benign mucinous cystadenomas of the ovary thus showing that women with unusually elevated tumour markers may actually harbour benign disease. The tumour markers should not be used to predict the malignant status of a tumour.

To report the successful conservative surgical management of Ovarian mucinous cystadenoma with silent torsion in a 24 years old pregnant woman in a tertiary care center in Delhi. An antenatal woman came for a routine visit to the OPD of the hospital at 13 weeks gestation. She had a vague, mild pain in lower abdomen since the last four weeks. A cystic mass was discovered during an abdominal examination. Further on sonography, a multisepatated cystic mass was seen, likely to be mucinous cystadenoma. Routine tumor markers came out to be negative. A laparotomy was planned at 15 weeks. On laparotomy a 20 × 15 cm multiloculated cyst with one and half turns of torsion was found. Detorsion, cystectomy of the intact cyst followed by ovarian reconstruction was done after due consent. On histopathological examination the cyst was found to be Benign mucinous cystadenoma. The pregnancy continued without any adverse effects. The woman delivered vaginally at 38 weeks without any feto-maternal complications. She was able to conceive again spontaneously at 18 months post-delivery. After 16 weeks of gestation in the second pregnancy she went to her home town and no further follow-up was possible. This case emphasizes the importance of a thorough examination in all pregnant woman to rule out any adnexal mass separate from the gravid uterus. Big ovarian masses in pregnancy, if not diagnosed can cause growth retardation, preterm deliveries, acute abdomen due to infection, rupture or torsion. Sonography, MRI and tumor markers can facilitate diagnosis before surgery. Torsion and rupture of mucinous cystadenoma need prompt surgery. Wherever possible conservative surgery (detorsion and cystectomy) should be done especially in young women.

Giant ovarian mucinous cystadenoma becomes rare in the current medical practice. We report a 71-year-old post-menopausal woman with complaints of severe abdomen distention since one year ago. This case was interesting because of the patient morbidly post-menopausal woman with giant ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. On physical examination, abdominal girth at pubic symphysis was 60 cm with a dull note on percussion. Her vulva, vagina, and cervix were grossly normal and on pelvic ultrasounds, examination showed a large well-defined cystic lesion of about 25× 20× 20 cm. Then we did laparotomy surgery on the patient. During the laparotomy salphyngo-oophorectomy procedure, we found a cyst that weighs 5.5 kg in the left ovary. We also found a sub-serous leiomyoma with a size of 7×7×4.5 cm. from the histopathologic examination, the result showed mucinous cystadenoma ovary and uterine leiomyoma. It can be concluded that laparotomy with giant ovarian mucinous cystadenoma is successful without any complications during pre-operative until post-operative.

Objectives: To report the case of a huge benign ovarian tumour (Mucinous cystadenoma) in MGM medical college, Aurngabad. Patients: 19 years old female admitted in surgery. METHODS: The information was collected through Clinical examination, Ultrasonography, CT scan, blood investigations & Histopathological study of the specimen. RESULTS: The outcome was large ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. CONCLUSIONS: This case report gives information that although the condition is extremely rare, it is harmful when it's huge if not diagnosed and managed properly. Thogh the tumour is huge it is observed that excion of huge benign ovarian tumour gives good quality outcome to the patient.

Background: Ovarian mucinous cystadenomas (MCAs) are very rare in adolescent females. These lesions can be misdiagnosed as hydatid cysts in endemic regions when seen on imaging. The cysts may wander after autoamputation and then can be diagnosed only with histology testing. Case: A 14-year-old adolescent female had a cyst that was wandering in her peritoneal cavity. This lesion appeared to be a hydatid cyst on imaging. The patient underwent a laparotomy with complete excision of the cyst. Results: Histopathology testing of the cyst revealed that it was a MCA of the ovary. The patient was discharged, as she was well, on the 8th postoperative day. Conclusions: Ovarian MCAs are very rare in adolescent females, with only 19 cases reported in previous literature. This type of lesion may mimic a hydatid cyst on imaging studies. Even if both ovaries may appear to be normal and are seen separately from the lesion, it is important to remember that, as a result of torsion, an ovarian mass may autoamputate ...

Ovarian mucinous cystadenoma is a benign tumor that arises from the surface epithelium of the ovary. We present a case of a bilateral mucinous adenoma in a 19 years old patient. The 2D ultrasound was used in combination with 3D and HD live images. The preoperative diagnosis according to ultrasound images was mucinous adenoma and the pathological report after surgery confirmed it. HD live is a novative ultrasound software which can improve the diagnosis.
