The axisymmetric visco-resistive magnetohydrodynamic steady states allowing flows (i.e. non-vanishing velocity fields) are computed for a toroidal JET-like geometry. It is shown that a spatially inhomogeneous heating of moderate magnitude leads to an increase of typical toroidal speeds with respect to the situation with uniform temperature with identical mean Hartmann numbers. A symmetry argument is introduced to capture the symmetry breaking, induced by the temperature gradient, that produces a net toroidal plasma flow.

The goal of this study was to analyse plasma procalcitonin (PCT) concentrations during infectious events of burns in ICU. We conducted a prospective, observational study in a 20-bed Burn Intensive Care Unit in Tunisia. A total of 121 patients admitted to the Burn ICU were included in our study. Serum PCT was measured over the entire course of stay in patients with predictive signs of sepsis according to the Americain Burn Association Criteria for the presence of infection. Patients were assigned to two groups depending on the clinical course and outcome: Group A = non septic patients; Group B = septic patients. A PCT cutoff value of 0,69 ng/ml for sepsis prediction was associated with the optimal combination of sensitivity (89%), specificity (85%), positive predictive value (82%) and negative predictive value (88%). Serum procalcitonin levels can be used as an early indicator of septic complication in patients with severe burn injuries as well as in monitoring the response to antimicrobial therapy.Le but de cette étude était d’analyser la concentration de procalcitonine plasmatique (PCT) mesurée au cours des cas d’infection chez les patients brûlés en soins intensifs. Nous avons mené une étude observationnelle prospective dans une unité de soins intensifs de 20 lits en Tunisie. Un total de 121 patients admis ont été inclus dans notre étude. La PCT a été mesurée pendant toute la durée du séjour chez les patients avec des signes prédictifs de septicémie selon les critères de l’American Burn Association pour la présence de l’infection. Les patients ont été répartis en deux groupes en fonction de l’évolution clinique et les résultats: Groupe A = pas de patients septiques; Groupe B = patients septiques. Une valeur PCT de 0,69 ng/ml est associée à la combinaison optimale de sensibilité (89%), spécificité (85%), valeur prédictive positive (82%) et valeur prédictive négative (88%). Les niveaux de procalcitonine sérique peuvent être utilisés comme un indicateur précoce de complication septique chez les patients atteints de brûlures graves, ainsi que dans le contrôle de la réponse à la thérapie antimicrobienne.

Le chrome est un oligoélément essentiel à l’homéostasie du métabolisme glucidique qui pourrait également être impliqué dans l’étiologie de l’athérosclérose. Trois lots de rats Wistar males (n= 30, âgé de 2 mois) traités quotidiennement et pendant 28 jours. Les Contrôles ont reçu du sérum physiologique (1µL/g/j, ip), groupe II a reçu la dexaméthasone (DEX : 0,2 mg/kg/j, ip) et les rats du groupe III ont reçu le même régime que le groupe II avec une supplémentation en CrN à partir du 7 ème jour de l’expérimentation (CrN : 30 mg/kg/j, PO). A la fin de l’expérimentation, les rats sont sacrifiés et les paramètres biochimiques sont dosés. Les résultats montrent une augmentation du poids corporel des rats témoins par apport aux groupes traités par la DEX. La supplémentation en CrN n’a pas corrigé l’élévation de la glycémie et de l’insulinémie engendré par la DEX, de même l’ajout du CrN n’influe pas sur la variation des taux de la triglycéridémie et de la cholestérolémie entrainés par la DEX. Il est notamment observé que l’addition du CrN n’a pas d’effet notable sur la fonction hépatique et la fonction rénale.Mots-clés : chrome, diabète, glycémie, dexaméthasone.Effect of chromium niacinate on glucose tolerance at wistar rat Chromium is an essential trace element in the homeostasis of glucose metabolism could also be involved in the etiology of atherosclerosis. Three groups of male Wistar rats (n= 30, age 2 months) treated daily for 28 days. Controls received saline (1µl/g/day, ip), group II received dexamethasone (DEX: 0, 2 mg/kg/day, ip) and the rats of group III received the same treatment as the group II with supplementation CrN from the 7 day of the experiment (CrN: 30 mg/kg/day, PO). At the end of the experiment, the rats were sacrificed and biochemical parameters were measured. The results show an increase in the body weight of control rats contribution to the DEX treated groups. CrN supplementation did not correct the elevation of blood glucose and insulin caused by DEX. The addition of CrN does not affect the rate of change in triglycerides and cholesterol trained by DEX. It is particularly noted that the addition of CrN has no significant effect on liver and kidney functions.Keywords : chromium, diabetes, glucose, dexamethasone.
