3. Para-Vertebral Extramedullary Hematopoiesis (PVEH) A Report of Two Cases and Literature Review

Abstract

Para-vertebral extramedullary hematopoiesis (PVEH) is defined as an ectopic development of hematopoietic tissue outside the bone marrow. It is a very rare condition, secondary to haematological disorders leading to chronic anemia. The present report describes two cases of chronic anemia patients with paraspinal medullary hematopoiesis and analyzes the clinical manifestations, imaging, pathology, diagnosis and treatment of EMH. In addition, a supplementary review of previously published cases is provided along with a review of the related literature. Computed tomography (CT) of the first case revealed paraspinal masses, and the largest was 6.2x8.0 cm in diameter. Likewise, MIRy of the second patient revealed multiple paraspinal masses in the bottom of the left thoracic cavity, and the largest was measured 10.1x10.5 cm. In conclusion, EMH is a compatible and rare disease, and should be distinguished from other neoplasms.

7. Lung Synovialosarcoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract

Synovialosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor, accounting for 10% of soft tissue sarcomas. It usually develops in the limbs and its pulmonary location is exceptional. We report a clinical case of synovialosarcoma of the lung in a 65-year-old man discovered at a localized stage. This extremely rare tumor has a particular immunohistochemical phenotype, which greatly contributes to the diagnosis. The cytogenetic study confirms the diagnosis by showing the presence of the specific translocation t (X; 18), which characterizes the synovialosarcoma whatever its anatomical location. Through this observation, we insist on the radiology-clinical, therapeutic and prognostic characteristics of this rare tumor often unrecognized by clinicians.

Abstract

Pneumocephalus is a frequent complication of head trauma and cranial surgery unlike pneumoventriculus which is a rare entity. Imaging plays an important role in the positive diagnosis of pneumoventriculus and the CT scan is the key examination in the assessment of skull base fractures. We report the case of one patient presenting with a neglected open head injury following road traffic accident whose computed tomography (CT) brain images confirm skull base fractures with bilateral pneumoventriculus.
