Few studies have conducted to explore the effects of remimazolam on intraoperative frontal alpha band power spectrum density in older adults. Here, we aimed to explore the impact of remimazolam on intraoperative frontal brain wave alpha band activity and postoperative cognitive function in older adults undergoing lower extremity fractures surgeries.Methods: Patients undergoing elective general anesthesia for lower extremity fracture surgery were randomly allocated to remimazolam group (Group R) and midazolam group (Group M). Group R was induced with remimazolam bolus 0.1 mg/kg followed by a maintenance dose of 0.1 mg·kg− 1·h− 1 for general anesthesia. Group M was induced with midazolam 0.05 mg/kg followed by normal saline maintenance of 0.1 mL·kg− 1·h− 1. The rest anesthesia protocol was the same for both groups. Electroencephalogram data was recorded before anesthesia induction till the end of surgery. Cognitive function was assessed preoperatively, and at the first, third, fifth, and seventh day postoperatively.Results: Compared with Group M, Group R had significantly higher intraoperative power spectral density of the frontal alpha band (P < 0.001), and significantly lower incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction at T8 and T9 (P = 0.031 and P = 0.017, respectively).Conclusion: Remimazolam can increase frontal brain wave alpha band power spectrum density and improve postoperative cognitive function in older adults undergoing lower extremity fractures surgeries.Keywords: brain waves, alpha band, benzodiazepines, remimazolam, cognitive dysfunction, elderly, neuropsychological tests

Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) offers a rapid, comprehensive alternative for identifying diverse pathogens, including rare and mixed infections. Thus, we assessed the diagnostic performance of mNGS in pulmonary infections, compared the findings with those of traditional pathogen detection methods, and explored its potential to enhance clinical diagnostics and patient care.Methods: We collected samples from 125 immunocompromised patients diagnosed with pulmonary infection at the Department of Respiratory Medicine of Shenzhen Longgang Central Hospital from March 2020 to July 2022. We compared the rate of pathogen positivity and pathogen distribution between conventional pathogen detection methods and mNGS using samples including sputum, blood, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid.Results: Among the 125 cases of unexplained pulmonary infection, 82 (65.6%) and 40 (32.0%) tested positive for pathogens using mNGS and routine culture, respectively (P < 0.05). Both methods of pathogen detection were positive in 28 (22.4%) cases (complete match, 9; complete mismatch, 13; partial match, 6). However, 43.2% of cases only tested positive using mNGS, 9.4% only tested positive using routine tests, and 24.8% tested negative using both methods. A viral infection was present in 55.2% of cases. The detection rate of mycobacteria using mNGS (12.8%) was higher than that using conventional pathogen detection methods (5.6%).Conclusion: mNGS technology enhances pathogen detection in unexplained pulmonary infections, enabling targeted antimicrobial therapy and consequently helping to reduce broad-spectrum antibiotic use, aligning treatments more closely with the causative pathogens. Thus, mNGS offers significant clinical value by improving treatment efficacy and potentially reducing antibiotic resistance in pulmonary infection cases.Keywords: mNGS, Unexplained pulmonary infection, Pathogens, BALF

Academic stress, anxiety symptoms, hopelessness, and depressive symptoms were assessed by self-report scales. Haye’s PROCESS macro for SPSS was used to test the hypothesized mediation effect of anxiety symptoms and hopelessness in the relationship between academic stress and depressive symptoms.Results: Anxiety symptoms, hopelessness, and depressive symptoms were common among college students and were all significantly positively associated with academic stress levels. Academic stress could indirectly affect depressive symptoms by anxiety symptoms, hopelessness, and both anxiety symptoms and hopelessness. The total effect of academic stress on depressive symptoms was 0.063. The total effect of three indirect pathway was 0.039 which account for 62% of the total effect.Conclusion: The study detailed the specific process of depressive symptoms caused by academic stress in college students. Anxiety symptoms and hopelessness could mediate the relationship between academic stress and depressive symptoms. Paying attention to the anxiety levels and hopelessness levels of college students with high academic pressure is suggested as a means of preventing depression and promoting mental health.Keywords: academic stress, anxiety, hopelessness, depression, college students

The microstructural changes of the spinal cord before and after transplantation were observed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).Methods: From January 2014 to May 2015, seven patients who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in this study. In the experimental group, both UC-MSC transplantation and comprehensive rehabilitation treatment were applied, while the control group received only comprehensive rehabilitation treatment. American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) sensory and motor scores and the degree of SCI, spasticity, and urine/defecation functions were measured and evaluated together with DTI before the treatment and again at two and six months after the first treatment.Results: From the DTI, the changes in the fractional anisotropy (FA) value and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value were as follows: in the experimental group, there were significant differences in the FA and ADC values before and after treatment (P < 0.05) with a decreased ADC value and an increased FA value. The differences in the ADC and FA values of the normal layer and the lesion layer before and after treatment were compared. The differences in ADC and FA at the lesion layer before and after transplantation were greater than those of the normal layer, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). In the experimental group, one patient with incomplete SCI and one patient with a short course of complete SCI improved in terms of light touch, acupuncture sensation, and motor score. One patient with incomplete SCI achieved improvement in spasticity and urine/defecation functions.Conclusion: The combination of UC-MSC transplantation and comprehensive rehabilitation therapy could help to promote the structural repair of the spinal nerve in patients with SCI.Keywords: spinal cord injury, stem cell, DTI, ADC, FA

This study assessed this mediating effect in college students.Participants and Methods: Participants consisted of 1236 freshmen recruited at a local university. Symptoms of ADHD, IGD, depression and hopelessness were measured using self-report scales. The effect of ADHD on IGD mediated by depression and hopelessness was analyzed by Haye’s PROCESS macro for SPSS (Model 6) using the bias-corrected percentile bootstrap method with 5000 bootstrapped samples.Results: Symptoms of ADHD, depression and hopelessness were common in college students and were strongly associated with the appearance of IGD symptoms. ADHD symptoms of college students impacted their IGD symptoms directly and indirectly via depressive symptoms and hopelessness. The total effect of ADHD symptoms on IGD symptoms was 0.075 (standard error [SE]: 0.009, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.057, 0.093), with a direct effect of 0.037 (SE: 0.010, 95% CI 0.018, 0.056, effect ratio: 49.3%), and total indirect effect was 0.038 (SE: 0.005, 95% CI 0.029, 0.050, effect ratio: 50.7%).Conclusion: Depressive symptoms and hopelessness can mediate the relationship between ADHD and IGD symptoms among college students. Abstract

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are common, complex and heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorders. Cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for ASD pathogenesis have been proposed based on genetic studies, brain pathology and imaging, but a major impediment to testing ASD hypotheses is the lack of human cell models. Here, we reprogrammed fibroblasts to generate induced pluripotent stem cells, neural progenitor cells (NPCs) and neurons from ASD individuals with early brain overgrowth and non-ASD controls with normal brain size. ASD-derived NPCs display increased cell proliferation because of dysregulation of a β-catenin/BRN2 transcriptional cascade. ASD-derived neurons display abnormal neurogenesis and reduced synaptogenesis leading to functional defects in neuronal networks. Interestingly, defects in neuronal networks could be rescued by insulin growth factor 1 (IGF-1), a drug that is currently in clinical trials for ASD. This work demonstrates that selection of ASD subjects based on endophenotypes unraveled biologically relevant pathway disruption and revealed a potential cellular mechanism for the therapeutic effect of IGF-1.

The clinical characteristics of GIB, GIO, and GIP before and after chemotherapy were recorded. The associated overall survival and progression-free survival were analyzed.Results: Among 148 patients, 56.8% had gastrointestinal complications (GICs), including GIB, GIO, GIP, and multiple complications, and 22.6% of them occurred after chemotherapy, mostly during the first 4 cycles. The most common clinical manifestations of patients with GICs were abdominal pain or discomfort (79.8%), hematemesis or melena (22.6%), and abnormal bowel habits (17.9%). Patients with Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score ≥ 2, tumor mass ≥ 10 cm, or intestinal involvement had significantly higher risk of severe GICs as initial manifestations. Among 130 patients who received chemotherapy, B symptoms, tumor mass ≥ 10 cm, and Lugano stage (IIE, IV) strongly correlated with GICs after chemotherapy (P < 0.05). Rituximab did not increase the risk of GICs. GICs which occurred before or after chemotherapy reduced the objective response rate at the end of chemotherapy. The prognosis of patients was significantly worsened by GIP, GIB, or multiple complications after chemotherapy (P < 0.05). GIB at presentation or GIO before or after chemotherapy had no prognostic value (both P > 0.05).Conclusion: GICs adversely affect the quality of life, prolong the length of hospitalization, and shorten the long-term survival of patients with PGI-DLBCL.Keywords: diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, gastrointestinal complication, bleeding, obstruction, perforation

Abstract

In 2009-2010, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observa- tory (LIGO) operated together with international partners Virgo and GEO600 as a network to search for gravitational waves of astrophysical origin. The sensitiv- ity of these detectors was limited by a combination of noise sources inherent to the instrumental design and its environment, often localized in time or frequency, that couple into the gravitational-wave readout. Here we review the performance of the LIGO instruments during this epoch, the work done to characterize the de- tectors and their data, and the effect that transient and continuous noise artefacts have on the sensitivity of LIGO to a variety of astrophysical sources., Comment: 31 pages, 13 figures

Abstract

Searches for a stochastic gravitational-wave background (SGWB) using terrestrial detectors typically involve cross-correlating data from pairs of detectors. The sensitivity of such cross-correlation analyses depends, among other things, on the separation between the two detectors: the smaller the separation, the better the sensitivity. Hence, a co-located detector pair is more sensitive to a gravitational-wave background than a non-co-located detector pair. However, co-located detectors are also expected to suffer from correlated noise from instrumental and environmental effects that could contaminate the measurement of the background. Hence, methods to identify and mitigate the effects of correlated noise are necessary to achieve the potential increase in sensitivity of co-located detectors. Here we report on the first SGWB analysis using the two LIGO Hanford detectors and address the complications arising from correlated environmental noise. We apply correlated noise identification and mitigation techniques to data taken by the two LIGO Hanford detectors, H1 and H2, during LIGO's fifth science run. At low frequencies, 40 - 460 Hz, we are unable to sufficiently mitigate the correlated noise to a level where we may confidently measure or bound the stochastic gravitational-wave signal. However, at high frequencies, 460-1000 Hz, these techniques are sufficient to set a $95%$ confidence level (C.L.) upper limit on the gravitational-wave energy density of \Omega(f)<7.7 x 10^{-4} (f/ 900 Hz)^3, which improves on the previous upper limit by a factor of $\sim 180$. Abstract

UNLABELLED: Prior to nuclear export, the hepatitis B virus (HBV) pregenomic RNA may be spliced by the host cell spliceosome to form shorter RNA sequences known as splice variants. Due to deletions in the open reading frames, splice variants may encode novel fusion proteins. Although not essential for HBV replication, the role of splice variants and their novel fusion proteins largely remains unknown. Some splice variants and their encoded novel fusion proteins have been shown to impair or promote wild-type HBV replication in vitro, and although splice variants Sp3 and Sp9 are two of the most common splice variants identified to date, their in vitro replication phenotype and their impact on wild-type HBV replication are unclear. Here, we utilize greater than genome-length Sp3 and Sp9 constructs to investigate their replication phenotype in vitro, and their impact on wild-type HBV replication. We show that Sp3 and Sp9 were incapable of autonomous replication, which was rescued by providing the polymerase and core proteins in trans. Furthermore, we showed that Sp3 had no impact on wild-type HBV replication, whereas Sp9 strongly reduced wild-type HBV replication in co-transfection experiments. Knocking out Sp9 novel precore-surface and core-surface fusion protein partially restored replication, suggesting that these proteins contributed to suppression of wild-type HBV replication, providing further insights into factors regulating HBV replication in vitro. IMPORTANCE: The role of hepatitis B virus (HBV) splice variants in HBV replication and pathogenesis currently remains largely unknown. However, HBV splice variants have been associated with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma, suggesting a role in HBV pathogenesis. Abstract

The Netherlands Climate Change Agreement aims to reduce CO2 emissions and seismic events by halting natural gas usage by 2050. This will require widespread societal acceptance by 90% of households. The study investigates the social acceptance of a district heating network (DHN) among social housing tenants in Haarlem, Netherlands. The findings of a survey administered to ninety-five tenants revealed a substantial level of support for the DHN project. A significant portion of respondents, 75%, expressed their approval for the DHN, surpassing the legally required threshold of 70% for implementing building retrofits. Findings imply that although the participants possess an adequate comprehension of the rationale for energy transition, their familiarity with the precise particulars and practical information pertaining to the proposed transition to DHN is inadequate. The level of trust in housing corporations, energy providers, and the municipality is uniformly low, indicating a lack of institutional trust. Generally, the interpersonal trust among tenants tends to be lower than their trust in the broader public, which in turn restricts their capacity for self-organization and exercising influence over energy institutions. Although DHNs are typically regarded as environmentally friendly and secure, there are several challenges that need to be addressed, including the uncertainty about who will cover the costs of transitioning and the doubts surrounding DHN feasibility (warmth and reliability). Abstract

We report on an all-sky search for periodic gravitational waves in the frequency range $\mathrm{50-1000 Hz}$ with the first derivative of frequency in the range $-8.9 \times 10^{-10}$ Hz/s to zero in two years of data collected during LIGO's fifth science run. Our results employ a Hough transform technique, introducing a $\chi^2$ test and analysis of coincidences between the signal levels in years 1 and 2 of observations that offers a significant improvement in the product of strain sensitivity with compute cycles per data sample compared to previously published searches. Since our search yields no surviving candidates, we present results taking the form of frequency dependent, 95$%$ confidence upper limits on the strain amplitude $h_0$. The most stringent upper limit from year 1 is $1.0\times 10^{-24}$ in the $\mathrm{158.00-158.25 Hz}$ band. In year 2, the most stringent upper limit is $\mathrm{8.9\times10^{-25}}$ in the $\mathrm{146.50-146.75 Hz}$ band. This improved detection pipeline, which is computationally efficient by at least two orders of magnitude better than our flagship Einstein$@$Home search, will be important for "quick-look" searches in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo detector era., Comment: Accepted in Classical and Quantum Gravity. Abstract

Cosmic strings can give rise to a large variety of interesting astrophysical phenomena. Among them, powerful bursts of gravitational waves (GWs) produced by cusps are a promising observational signature. In this Letter we present a search for GWs from cosmic string cusps in data collected by the LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave detectors between 2005 and 2010, with over 625 days of live time. We find no evidence of GW signals from cosmic strings. From this result, we derive new constraints on cosmic string parameters, which complement and improve existing limits from previous searches for a stochastic background of GWs from cosmic microwave background measurements and pulsar timing data. In particular, if the size of loops is given by the gravitational backreaction scale, we place upper limits on the string tension $G\mu$ below $10^{-8}$ in some regions of the cosmic string parameter space.

Abstract

During the LIGO and Virgo joint science runs in 2009-2010, gravitational wave (GW) data from three interferometer detectors were analyzed within minutes to select GW candidate events and infer their apparent sky positions. Target coordinates were transmitted to several telescopes for follow-up observations aimed at the detection of an associated optical transient. Images were obtained for eight such GW candidates. We present the methods used to analyze the image data as well as the transient search results. No optical transient was identified with a convincing association with any of these candidates, and none of the GW triggers showed strong evidence for being astrophysical in nature. We compare the sensitivities of these observations to several model light curves from possible sources of interest, and discuss prospects for future joint GW-optical observations of this type., Comment: 24 pages

Abstract

Long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been linked to extreme core-collapse supernovae from massive stars. Gravitational waves (GW) offer a probe of the physics behind long GRBs. We investigate models of long-lived (~10-1000s) GW emission associated with the accretion disk of a collapsed star or with its protoneutron star remnant. Using data from LIGO's fifth science run, and GRB triggers from the swift experiment, we perform a search for unmodeled long-lived GW transients. Finding no evidence of GW emission, we place 90% confidence level upper limits on the GW fluence at Earth from long GRBs for three waveforms inspired by a model of GWs from accretion disk instabilities. These limits range from F<3.5 ergs cm^-2 to $F<1200 ergs cm^-2, depending on the GRB and on the model, allowing us to probe optimistic scenarios of GW production out to distances as far as ~33 Mpc. Advanced detectors are expected to achieve strain sensitivities 10x better than initial LIGO, potentially allowing us to probe the engines of the nearest long GRBs., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

We present the results of a directed search for continuous gravitational waves from unknown, isolated neutron stars in the Galactic Center region, performed on two years of data from LIGO's fifth science run from two LIGO detectors. The search uses a semi-coherent approach, analyzing coherently 630 segments, each spanning 11.5 hours, and then incoherently combining the results of the single segments. It covers gravitational wave frequencies in a range from 78 to 496 Hz and a frequency-dependent range of first order spindown values down to -7.86 x 10^-8 Hz/s at the highest frequency. No gravitational waves were detected. We place 90% confidence upper limits on the gravitational wave amplitude of sources at the Galactic Center. Placing 90% confidence upper limits on the gravitational wave amplitude of sources at the Galactic Center, we reach ~3.35x10^-25 for frequencies near 150 Hz. Abstract

We present the results of searches for gravitational waves from a large selection of pulsars using data from the most recent science runs (S6, VSR2 and VSR4) of the initial generation of interferometric gravitational wave detectors LIGO (Laser Interferometric Gravitational-wave Observatory) and Virgo. We do not see evidence for gravitational wave emission from any of the targeted sources but produce upper limits on the emission amplitude. We highlight the results from seven young pulsars with large spin-down luminosities. We reach within a factor of five of the canonical spin-down limit for all seven of these, whilst for the Crab and Vela pulsars we further surpass their spin-down limits. We present new or updated limits for 172 other pulsars (including both young and millisecond pulsars). Now that the detectors are undergoing major upgrades, and, for completeness, we bring together all of the most up-to-date results from all pulsars searched for during the operations of the first-generation LIGO, Virgo and GEO600 detectors. We report that hybridizing semiconductor quantum dots with plasmonic metamaterial leads to a multi-fold intensity increase and narrowing of their photoluminescence spectrum. The luminescence enhancement is a clear manifestation of the cavity quantum electrodynamics Purcell effect that can be controlled by the metamaterial's design. Abstract

This thesis reports on the development of a new class of switchable nanostructured photonic metamaterials, Reconfigurable Photonic Metamaterials (RPMs). Over the last decade, fascinating material properties including negative refraction, optical magnetism, invisibility, asymmetric transmission, perfect lenses and many more were demonstrated in metamaterials. Inspired by pioneering work on micro-electro mechanical metamaterials for the terahertz and microwave spectral regions with feature sizes from millimeters to tens and hundreds microns, I develop reconfigurable photonic metamaterials for the optical spectral range that have sub-micron meta molecules and nanoscale design features. In particular, for the first time I developed: Novel fabrication processes for manufacturing reconfigurable photonic metamaterials based on the platform of elastic silicon nitride membranes using focused ion beam lithography, film deposition, precise alignment, etching and annealing techniques. These fabrication techniques have allowed the manufacturing of a wide range of reconfigurable metamaterials consisting of bi-layer (gold/silicon nitride) or tri-layer (gold/silicon nitride/gold) structured membranes suitable for applications as plasmonic RPMs. Novel RPMs tunable by ambient temperature that operate in the optical and near infrared parts of the spectrum. With such metamaterials exploiting the change in plasmonic response due to differential thermal expansion in bimorph nanostructures I have demonstrated 50% changes in optical transmission at the wavelength of 1735 nm when the temperature is ramped from 76 K to 270 K. Novel RPMs operating in the near-infrared part of the spectrum that can be controlled by electric signals. These types of metamaterials harness electrostatic forces on the nanoscale and offer up to 20 MHz modulation bandwidth. At a threshold level of stimulation these metamaterials exhibit non-volatile switching with up to 250% transmission change. As a part of this research I developed a characterization technique that allows imaging and recording of the electrostatic switching under a scanning electron microscope. Novel optically controlled RPMs exploiting near-field optical forces induced by light and optical heating for reconfiguration. Such metamaterials show a new type of optomechanical nonlinearity leading to intensity-dependent transmission that exceeds the cubic nonlinearity of GaAs by seven orders of magnitude. Using CW diode lasers operating at telecommunication wavelengths of 1.3 μm and 1.55 μm I have demonstrated cross-wavelength optical modulation with amplitude of about 1 % that can be achieved at only about 1 mW of average power of the control beam. I also developed the numerical analysis of thermo-opto-mechanical properties of the structures and calculated eigenmodes and cooling constants of the RPMs under modulated laser irradiation. Overall, the development of reconfigurable photonic metamaterials provides a new and flexible platform for the control of metamaterial properties "on demand". Such metamaterials can find applications in sensors, tunable spectral filters, switches, modulators, programmable transformation optics devices and any other application where tunable optical properties are required.

Abstract

Pulmonary emboli are rare occurrences in young patients, especially those who present precipitously to the emergency department. In a young unresponsive patient, recognition of thromboembolic etiology may be delayed due to atypical presenting physiology or competing diagnoses. In this report, the authors describe an initially confounding case of catastrophic bilateral pulmonary emboli in a young woman who presented to the emergency department having been found unconscious on the street. Despite severe and prolonged hypoxia as well as multi-organ failure, the patient achieved a near complete recovery. © 2012 The Author(s).

Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, is most commonly caused by chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. However, whether HBV plays any direct role in carcinogenesis, other than indirectly causing chronic liver injury by inciting the host immune response, remains unclear. We have established two independent transgenic mouse lines expressing the complete genome of a mutant HBV ("preS2 mutant") that is found at much higher frequencies in people with HCC than those without. The transgenic mice show evidence of stress in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and overexpression of cyclin D1 in hepatocytes. These mice do not show any evidence of chronic liver injury, but by 2 years of age a majority of the male mice develop hepatocellular neoplasms, including HCC. Unexpectedly, we also found a significant increase in hepatocarcinogenesis independent of necroinflammation in a transgenic line expressing the entire wildtype HBV. As in the mutant HBV mice, HCC was found only in aged--2-year-old--mice of the wildtype HBV line. The karyotype in all the three transgenic lines appears normal and none of the integration sites of the HBV transgene in the mice is near an oncogene or tumor suppressor gene. The significant increase of HCC incidence in all the three transgenic lines--expressing either mutant or wildtype HBV--therefore argues strongly that in absence of chronic necroinflammation, HBV can contribute directly to the development of HCC.

Abstract

The interplay between autophagy and host innate immunity has been of great interest. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) impedes signaling pathways initiated by pattern- recognition receptors (PRRs) that recognize pathogens-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). Autophagy, a cellular catabolic process, delivers damaged organelles and protein aggregates to lysosomes for degradation and recycling. Autophagy is also an innate immune response of cells to trap pathogens in membrane vesicles for removal. However, HCV controls the autophagic pathway and uses autophagic membranes to enhance its replication. Mitophagy, a selective autophagy targeting mitochondria, alters the dynamics and metabolism of mitochondria, which play important roles in host antiviral responses. HCV also alters mitochondrial dynamics and promotes mitophagy to prevent premature cell death and attenuate the interferon (IFN) response. In addition, the dysregulation of the inflammasomal response by HCV leads to IFN resistance and immune tolerance. These immune evasion properties of HCV allow HCV to successfully replicate and persist in its host cells. In this article, we discuss HCV-induced autophagy/mitophagy and its associated immunological responses and provide a review of our current understanding of how these processes are regulated in HCV-infected cells. 44. Ultrasonic bone curette in thoracic spinal decompression: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of ultrasonic bone curette (UBC) and conventional surgical instruments in thoracic laminectomy decompression (TLD) for the treatment of thoracic spinal stenosis (TSS) by meta-analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two authors independently searched Medline via PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Wanfang Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure for the period from the establishment of the database until January 2023 to identify the studies on the safety and efficacy of UBC vs. conventional instruments for TSS. Data extraction and quality assessment were performed by two researchers independently. We used RevMan 5.4 software (Review Manager Web, The Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, Denmark) to analyze the data. RESULTS: Eight retrospective studies were included in the present work. This meta-analysis revealed that no significant differences in the preoperative JOA scores, the JOA scores at the last follow-up, the improvement rate of JOA scores, and the incidence of cerebrospinal fluid leakage/dura injury were detected between the two groups (p>0.05). However, there were significant differences in the operative time and intraoperative blood loss during single-level TLD [operative time: MD=-1.47, 95% CI (-1.86, -1.09), p<0.001; intraoperative blood loss: MD=-46.62, 95% CI (-53.83, -39.40), p<0.001], total operative time [MD=-56.88, 95% CI (-69.66, -44.10), p<0.001], total intraoperative blood loss [MD=- 143.52, 95% CI (-212.49, -74.54), p<0.001], the incidence of neurological deterioration/nerve root injury [RR= 0.29, 95% CI (0.09, 0.91), p=0.03] between the groups. CONCLUSIONS: The application of UBC in TLD to treat TSS is safe and effective. UBC can significantly shorten operation time and reduce intraoperative blood loss compared to traditional surgical instruments. Moreover, it has the advantage of reducing perioperative nerve injury. This study aims to explore the relevance of KDM3A to cervical cancer (CC) progression and the molecules involved.Materials and Methods: Tumor and the adjacent tissues from CC patients were collected. KDM3A expression in tissues and CC cell lines and its correlation with the survival and prognosis of patients were determined. Malignant potentials of CC cells and the angiogenesis ability of HUVECs were measured to evaluate the function of KDM3A on CC progression. The interactions among KDM3A, H3K9me2 and ETS1, and the binding between ETS1 and KIF14 were validated through ChIP and luciferase assays. Altered expression of ETS1 and KIF14 was introduced to explore their roles in CC development.Results: KDM3A was abundantly expressed in CC tissues and cells and linked to dismal prognosis of CC patients. Knockdown of KDM3A suppressed malignant behaviors of CC cells. KDM3A was found to increase ETS1 expression through the demethylation of H3K9me2. Overexpression of ETS1 blocked the inhibiting roles of sh-KDM3A. ETS1 could bind to the promoter region of KIF14 to trigger its transcription. Overexpression ofKIF14aggravated the malignant behaviors of CC cells and the angiogenesis ability of HUVECs, and it activated the Hedgehog signaling pathway. Artificial activation of Hedgehog by Sag1.5 diminished the effects of sh-KDM3A. 49. An Adaptive Optics Census of Companions to Northern Stars Within 25 pc with Robo-AO

Abstract

In order to assess the multiplicity statistics of stars across spectral types and populations in a volume-limited sample, we censused nearby stars for companions with Robo-AO. We report on observations of 1157 stars of all spectral types within 25 pc with decl. >-13° searching for tight companions. We detected 154 companion candidates with separations ranging from ∼0.″15 to 4.″0 and magnitude differences up to "m i′≤7 using the robotic adaptive optics instrument Robo-AO. We confirmed physical association from Gaia EDR3 astrometry for 53 of the companion candidates, 99 remain to be confirmed, and two were ruled out as background objects. We complemented the high-resolution imaging companion search with a search for comoving objects with separations out to 10,000 au in Gaia EDR3, which resulted in an additional 147 companions registered. Of the 301 total companions reported in this study, 49 of them are new discoveries. Out of the 191 stars with significant acceleration measurements in the Hipparcos-Gaia catalog of accelerations, we detect companions around 115 of them, with the significance of the acceleration increasing as the companion separation decreases. From this survey, we report the following multiplicity fractions (compared to literature values): 40.9% ± 3.0% (44%) for FGK stars and 28.2% ± 2.3% (27%) for M stars, as well as higher-order fractions of 5.5% ± 1.1% (11%) and 3.9% ± 0.9% (5%) for FGK stars and M-type stars, respectively.
