Summary: A facile hydrothermal technique was employed to synthesized non‐modulated cobalt‐doped molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) nanoflowers. The as‐prepared materials were coated on commercially available Ni‐foam to fabricate electrode materials for supercapacitor applications. The elucidation of the structural information, surface morphology, microstructural properties, as well as surface areas was successfully carried out by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) measurements, respectively. XRD and Raman analysis confirmed the structural changes of the materials, which depict a successful synthesis of cobalt‐doped MoS2 with typical phase change and the red‐shifted peaks of Raman spectra compared to pristine MoS2. The flower‐like morphology and agglomerating nanosheets of various nanometer diameters of the microstructural properties of the obtained Co‐MoS2 were established from SEM and TEM images. The surface areas of the CMS1 and CMS3 electrode materials were, respectively, calculated to be 18.0607 and 14.5519 mg−2 from BET surface analysis. The electrode materials were electrochemically evaluated for their energy storage performance, the materials exhibit specific capacitances of 164 and 146 Fg−1 at 1 Ag−1 for the working electrodes (CMS1 and CMS3), respectively. Also, the energy densities of 3.67 and 2.05 Wh/kg with power densities of 3279.97 and 2960.26 W/kg were calculated for both electrode materials, respectively. The results illustrate that the Co‐MoS2 can be suitable for an effective electrode material for prospective supercapacitor applications. The invaluable advantages of smart nanomaterials are being explored in several fields nowadays which have made the nanomaterials applicable in sensing pharmaceuticals products at different concentrations in various media including nanomedicine, drug innovation, and delivery, and water treatment plants. Pharmaceutical detection in the food sector, biomedical diagnostics, and water monitoring are very cogent owing to the risks associated with the composition of these drugs when existing above permissible limits in a matrix. Therefore, this review summarizes the recent research activities on the use of smart nanomaterials for sensing pharmaceuticals in various mediums. Classifications and synthesis of various nanomaterials are also discussed. Lastly, the application of smart nanomaterials in sensing pharmaceuticals in various matrices was also reviewed. It is expected that this review will guide towards tailoring nanomaterials for sensing pharmaceuticals in different matrices and for possible improvement on their applicability. Biological stains are potentially harmful compounds present in the environment, in which Eosin yellow dye (EYD) is one of the most commonly applied stains. In this research, date palm seeds-porous carbon (DPSC) and its TiO2 blend (TiO2-DPSC) were prepared and their efficiency on the removal of EYD from an aqueous medium was investigated. Characterization by SEM, EDX, FTIR and BET surface area was performed on the materials. The BET surface area (542.63 m² /g) and pore diameter (2.02 nm) of TiO2-DPSC were found to be higher than that of DPSC (332.74 m² /g and 1.85 nm) indicating that TiO2-DPSC is mesoporous while DPSC is microporous. The major and interactive impacts of the adsorption parameters: initial EYD concentration, pH, adsorbent dose, and time of contact were examined by Box Behnken design in response surface methodology. The high R² values 0.9658 and 0.9597 for DPSC and TiO2-DPSC agreed with the adjusted R² values suggesting the quadratic model sufficiently interprets the adsorption data. The optimum removal efficiency of EYD onto DPSC and TiO2-DPSC was 34.63 mg/g and 55.34 mg/g which are in agreement with the predicted removal of 34.75 mg/g and 50.11 mg/g respectively at the center point values of Co=300 mg/L, pH 2, 362.5 min and 0.1 g adsorbent dose. The results also showed the acceptability of the Box Behnken design in response surface methodology for the optimization of EYD removal from aqueous media using DPSC and TiO2-DPSC blends. Hence, better EYD removal reported in TiO2-DPSC compared to DPSC was due to its improved adsorptive features. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The fascinating features of 2D nanomaterials for various applications have prompted increasing research into single and few-layer metal dichalcogenides nanosheets using improved nanofabrication and characterization techniques. MoS2 has recently been intensively examined among layered metal dichalcogenides and other diverse transition metal-based materials, that have previously been studied in various applications. In this research, we report mixed-phase Mn-doped MoS2 nanoflowers for supercapacitor performance studies. The confirmation of the successfully prepared Mn-doped MoS2 nanoflowers was characterized by XRD, SEM-EDS, RAMAN, and BET research techniques. The mixed-phase of the as-synthesized electrode material was confirmed by the structural changes observed in the XRD and RAMAN studies. The surface area from the BET measurement was calculated to be 46.0628 m2/g, and the adsorption average pore size of the electrode material was 11.26607 nm. The electrochemical performance of the Mn-doped MoS2 electrode material showed a pseudo-capacitive behavior, with a specific capacitance of 70.37 Fg−1, and with a corresponding energy density of 3.14 Whkg−1 and a power density of 4346.35 Wkg−1. The performance of this metal-doped MoS2-based supercapacitor device can be attributed to its mixed phase, which requires further optimization in future works. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A facile interconnected nanofibre electrode material derived from polybenzimidazol (PBI) was fabricated for a supercapacitor using a centrifugal spinning technique. The PBI solution in a mixture of dimethyl acetamide (DMA) and N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) was electrospun to an interconnection of fine nanofibres. The as-prepared material was characterised by using various techniques, which include scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Raman, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) among others. The specific surface area of the interconnected NCF material was noticed to be around 49 m 2 g -1 . Electrochemical properties of the material prepared as a single-electrode are methodically studied by adopting cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and constant-current charge-discharge techniques. A maximum specific capacitance of 78.4 F g -1 was observed for the electrode at a specific current of 0.5 A g -1 in a 2.5 M KNO 3 solution. The electrode could also retain 96.7% of its initial capacitance after a 5000 charge-discharge cycles at 5 A g -1 . The observed capacitance and good cycling stability of the electrode are supported by its specific surface area, pore volume, and conductivity. The results obtained for this material indicate its potential as suitable candidate electrode for supercapacitor application.
