5. A Bibliometric Review of Research on Crowdsourcing Bidding Decision-Making 2011-2022 in Malaysia

Abstract

Purpose: Crowdsourcing is a vital component of Malaysia's digital economy, contributing substantially to the country's GDP and employment. It plays a significant role in Malaysia's digital economy, contributing 22.6% to the country's GDP in 2020 and employing 7.7% of the population. This study examines the aspects of scientific literature including publications, authors, journals, and citation patterns to gain better understanding of the field. Design: To gain insights into crowdsourcing decision-making, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using data from the Scopus database. Scopus was chosen due to its extensive collection of academic publications and frequent updates. Findings: The analysis revealed limitations in terms of the topical scope and sources of documents. The research on crowdsourcing decision-making is still relatively scarce, as evidenced by the existence of only 23 relevant documents. The research on crowdsourcing decision-making remains limited, emphasizing the importance of future studies in this area especially to Malaysia in capitalizing the digital economy. Research Limitations: This bibliometric analysis focuses primarily on published scientific literature, which may not capture all forms of research output. It may overlook other valuable contributions such as patents, technical reports, conference papers, and unpublished research. Practical Implications: This scarcity highlights the need for further studies to explore and expand our understanding of crowdsourcing decision-making theoretically and practically. This study has shed light on the paucity of research on crowdsourcing bidding decision-making on a global scale. Nonetheless, the study of this topic will greatly benefit Malaysia on capitalizing its digital economy forefront. Originality: This review has the quality of being new the extent to none of former reviews had detailed the statistical analyses on topic of Crowdsourcing Bidding Decision-Making in Malaysia. In addition, they were merely 23 total publications on crowdsourcing bidding decision making worldwide to date. Many scholarly works on crowdsourcing are focusing on crowdsourcing platforms, social networking (online), internet and social media related studies. 19. Response of the offshore jacket platform at its ultimate strength under operating and extreme loads: a Malaysian waters case study.

Abstract

Before reassessing the reliability condition of an offshore jacket platform, it is essential to understand the behaviours that the offshore platform exhibits while it is at sea. This paper presents the response of the offshore jacket platform as its ultimate strength under operating and extreme loads. Malaysian waters' metocean data from a 1-year return period (operating condition) and a 100-year return period (storm condition) are used to predict the four-legs jacket platform's behaviour by evaluating its ultimate strength. Also, two values of minimum design water depth (WD) of 105.9 m and maximum design WD of 115.4 m are chosen. The SACS software, a nonlinear finite element analysis software, is used to calculate the jacket platform's ultimate strength, called pushover analysis. For instance, the pushover analysis result will determine the Reserve Strength Ratio (RSR) as an approach to examining the offshore jacket platform's ultimate strength. Responses to the offshore jacket platform are base shear design, base shear ultimate, rotation, displacement, and moment, which illustrate the behaviour of the offshore jacket platform. There are eight combinations of environmental load directions are applied, to obtain the structure's weakest part. It is found that 45° is the critical direction for maximum design WD, while 90° is the critical direction for minimum design WD. The study's findings indicate that the response of the offshore jacket platform is very important for the safe design and operation of offshore jacket platforms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Currently, empty fruit bunch (EFB) is the main biomass source to fuel biomass power plant and as co-firing fuel with coal at the existing coal-fired power plants in Malaysia. However, these power plants frequently face insufficient EFB supply, which may contribute to load losses. Energy crops a new source of biomass, are introduced to replace or substitute the shortage of biomass supply. Planting energy crops worldwide ensures a sufficient and cleaner fuel supply for power generation. Positive characteristics of the energy crop are including calorific value, carbon contents and density. Higher value of these parameters indicating the good quality of the energy crop. While, the negative characteristics of energy crop are including moisture content and ash content. Higher value of these two parameters indicating lower quality of energy crop. One of the studied energy crops was Leucaena leucocephala (Petai Belalang), which showed better quality than EFB, based on calorific value, moisture content, ash content and density. It is naturally grown, typically near rivers in Peninsular Malaysia. Furthermore, it can be easily planted and matures in about six months for harvesting.

Abstract

The building sector is a significant contributor to global carbon emissions, primarily due to the production of cement, a crucial construction material. The need for sustainable building practices has spurred research into alternative materials to traditional cement and sand. Two such materials, ultrafine coal bottom ash (uCBA) and spent garnet (SG), have shown potential as substitutes for cement and fine aggregate, respectively. This research examines the effectiveness of uCBA as a partial replacement for cement and SG as a partial replacement for fine aggregate in concrete, at varying levels of 3%, 6%, and 9% for uCBA and 10%, 20%, and 30% for SG. Initially, the chemical composition analysis was conducted using an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), and the particle morphology of uCBA, OPC, and SG was examined through field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Then, the study evaluates the performance of these materials based on slump value, compressive strength, and splitting tensile strength, with specimens undergoing 28, 56, and 90-day curing periods. Results indicate that integrating uCBA and SG in concrete at levels of 3% and 10%, respectively, enhances compressive and splitting tensile strength while decreasing environmental impact. Moreover, workability improves with higher substitution levels. Overall, this research indicates that uCBA and SG hold great potential as replacements for cement and fine aggregate in concrete, providing a means to mitigate the environmental impact of construction.

Abstract

Thomas Bowrey, who was an employee of the British colonial government, visited the Malay-speaking region at the end of the 17th century and published a dictionary of Malay (1701) which consists of 12,683 headwords. It is one of the oldest and largest collections of data on this language, which was the first language of the people he came into contact with while travelling through the Malay Peninsula, spending most of his time in harbours along its west coast. Malay, which was spoken in the various trading centres of this area (e.g. Penang, Malacca), had long previously begun to develop into a form of lingua franca during Bowrey’s stay there due to the fact that traders, especially those from Arabic countries (beginning in the 12th century), China (from the 15th century onwards), Portugal (since 1511), the Netherlands (since 1641), and less so from England, came into contact with Malays speaking their local dialects in the various trading posts in Malaya and probably began to become acquainted with the trade-language variant. Thus, Bowrey must have observed and recorded elements of both. The data he collected is not limited to Malay variants spoken in coastal areas, but includes material from dialects which he encountered during his travels throughout the Malay Peninsula, though without, however, describing the locations in which he took notes on the lexicon and clauses. Not all of his material was written into manuscript form during his stay in Southeast Asia. A large part of his notes taken in situ were prepared for publication during his long journey home. His notes, which were used to print his dictionary, are in part kept in British libraries. Most of the material accessible to the public was studied during the preparation of this thesis. Earlier works on this dictionary are quite limited in scope.
