One of them – Concentrated Growth Factors (CGF) is produced by processing blood samples with a special centrifuge device. It is proven that this material contains high concentration of growth factors and CD34+ cells which have anti-inflammatory properties and ability to stimulate proliferation and differentiation of connective tissue cells and angiogenesis. The following article presents a case of 70-year-old-patient who underwent the augmentation of the post-operative bone defect with CGF after removal of necrotic alveolar part of the mandible. As an autogenic material it gains an advantage over xenogeneic materials used in regenerative procedures. Due to high concentration of growth factors and CD34+ cells in such a small volume, CGF promotes tissue regeneration. The following the article presents a case of 32-year-old-patient who underwent the augmentation of the post-extraction bone defect with CGF after the extraction of totally impacted lower third molar. Key words: surgical extraction of teeth. Streszczenie Ekstrakcja trzeciego zęba trzonowego żuchwy stanowi jeden z najczestszych i zarazem najtrudniejszych zabiegów chirurgii stomatologicznej. Celem pracy była analiza występowania powikłań po zabiegu chirurgicznej ekstrakcji trzecich zębów trzonowych żuchwy w materiale Zakładu Chirurgii Stomatologicznej Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi. Materiał i metody: Badaniem retrospektywnym objęto 792 pacjentów (476 kobiet i 316 mężczyzn) przyjętych w Zakładzie Chirurgii Stomatologicznej w latach 2012-2015 celem ekstrakcji zatrzymanych całkowicie lub częściowo trzecich zębów trzonowych żuchwy. Analizie poddano wystąpienie powikłań takich jak szczękościsk, długotrwały obrzęk, zapalenie zębodołu, parestezje nerwu zębodołowego dolnego i/lub językowego w zależności od płci pacjenta i wieku. Zgromadzone dane poddano analizie statystycznej przy pomocy oprogramowania Statistica 12.0. Wyniki: W materiale Zakładu Chirurgii Stomatologicznej Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi znalazło się 792 pacjentów, u których wykonano w sumie 1032 ekstrakcje. Średnia wieku przebadanych pacjentów wynosiła 28,7 lat. W grupie kobiet średnia wieku wyniosła 26,77 , podczas gdy w grypie mężczyzn - 29,86. Najmłodszy pacjent miał 14 lat, zaś najstarszy operowany - 74 lata. Powikłania wystąpiły u 183 pacjentów, w tym 121 kobiet i 62 mężczyzn. Najczęściej występującym powikłaniem pozabiegowym był szczękościsk, po nim: parestezje nerwu zębodołowego dolnego i/lub językowego oraz zapalenie zębodołu. U 25 pacjentów wystąpiło równocześnie więcej niż jedno powikłanie. Wnioski: Nie można jednoznacznie przewidzieć, czy powikłania wystąpią i u jakiej grupy pacjentów, jednak czynnik ludzki, jakim jest doświadczenie operatora i jego przygotowanie merytoryczno-manualne do wykonania tak trudnego zabiegu, jakim jest ekstrakcja trzeciego trzonowca, może mieć tu bardzo istotne znaczenie. Summary Extraction of mandibular third molar is one of the most common and also the most difficult procedures in dental surgery. The aim of the study was to analyze the occurrence of complications after surgical extraction of mandibular third molars in the material of the Department of Oral Surgery, Medical University of Lodz. Material and Methods: Retrospective study included 792 patients (476 women and 316 men) adopted at the Department of Dental Surgery in 2012-2015 aim of extracting retained totally or partially third mandibular molars. We analyzed the occurrence of complications such as lockjaw, prolonged swelling, alveolitis, inferior alveolar nerve paresthesia and / or language depending on the patient's gender and age. The collected data were statistically analyzed using the software Statistica 12.0. Results: In the material of the Department of Surgery, Medical University of Lodz, there were 792 patients who underwent a total of 1,032 extractions. The average age of patients studied was 28.7 years. In women, the average age was 26.77, while in the men flu - 29.86. The youngest patient was 14 years old, while the oldest operated - 74 years. Complications occurred in 183 patients, including 121 women and 62 men. The most common postoperative complication was lockjaw, followed by: inferior alveolar nerve paresthesia and / or language, and alveolitis. In 25 patients experienced at the same time more than one complication. Conclusion: It can not unequivocally predict if complications occur and in which a group of patients, but the human factor, which is the experience of the operator and the preparation of substantive and manual to perform such a difficult surgery, which is the extraction of third molar, can be very important here.

Due to high concentration of blood platelets, which reveal different sorts of growth factors, CGF stimulates wound healing, reduces post-operative complications, such as pain and swelling. The article presents a case of a 21-year-old-patient who underwent the augmentation of alveolar part of mandible with CGF after extractions of teeth 36, 37 and 38. The post-operative period, with follow-ups after one week and one-month post surgery, showed positive influence of applied plasma preparation. Streszczenie Spośród chorób układu krążenia, które mogą mieć związek z ogniskami zapalnymi w jamie ustnej na szczególną uwagę zasługuje infekcyjne zapalenie wsierdzia (IZW). Celem pracy było wykazanie ognisk zakażenia pochodzenia zębowego u chorych kardiologicznych, Materiał i metody. Badaniem retrospektywnym objęto 103 pacjentów (42 kobiety i 61 mężczyzn), leczonych w Zakładzie Chirurgii Stomatologicznej UM w Łodzi, z powodu ognisk zakażenia pochodzenia zębowego, w okresie od 1 października 2010 roku do 20 listopada 2014 roku. Wiek chorych wahał się od 32 do 68 lat. U wszystkich pacjentów w procedurach chirurgii 1- dnia usunięto ogniska zakażenia pochodzenia zębowego. Pacjenci stosowali doustne antykoagulanty. Wyniki. Oceniano ryzyko przedłużających się krwawień poekstrakcyjnych u leczonych osób. Wśród 55 chorych, którzy stosowali doustne antykoagulanty brak krwawienia wtórnego po wykonanym zabiegu stwierdzono u 45 chorych, u których wskaźnik INR wahał się od 0,9 do 2. Natomiast u 10 osób stwierdzono mały stopień krwawienia wtórnego w drugim dniu zabiegu u 6 chorych, a w 4 przypadkach w trzecim dniu po zabiegu. Na późniejsze wystąpienie krwawień wpłynęło przerwanie terapii przeciwzakrzepowej i obniżenie wskaźnika INR do 1,8. Wniosek. Konieczne jest zwrócenie szczególnej uwagi u osób kardiologicznych na profilaktykę stomatologiczną. Słowa kluczowe: zębopochodne ogniska zakażenia, choroby serca. Abstract Among cardiovascular diseases that may be linked to the dental focal inflammations, endocarditis deserves substantive attention. The aim of the article was to demonstrate dental focal inflammations in patients with cardiac issues. Material and methods. Retrospective study included 103 patients (42 women and 61 men), treated in Department of Oral Surgery of Medical University in Lodz, due to dental focal infections, between the 1st of October 2010 and 20th of November 2014. The age of the patients varied – from 32 to 68 years. The whole group was subjected to elimination of the dental infections in procedures of 1 day surgery. Patients received oral anticoagulants. Results. The risk of prolonged post-extraction bleeding has been assessed. Among 55 anti-coagulant treated patients, no post-operative bleeding has been ascertained in 45 cases, in which the preoperative INR ranged from 0,9 to 2. Whereas in 10 cases the bleeding was described as oozing and occurred in 6 patients in second day after the surgery and in 4 in the third day. Withdrawal of anticoagulant therapy caused the postoperative bleeding and reducing the INR to 1.8. Conclusion Special considerations regarding the patients who receive the anticoagulant therapy and undergo dental surgery are needed. Key words: dental focal infections, cardiovascular diseases.

Out of the numerous bacteria that inhabit oral cavity, some are responsible for periodontitis. There is a confirmed correlation between chronic inflammation and cardiovascular disease. Aim of the study: The aim of study is evaluation of patients’ knowledge and awareness of the correlation between the oral health and the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases, especially atherosclerosis. Materials and Methods: The study included 150 patients from three locations in Lodz: Electrocardiology Clinic of Medical University of Lodz, a multi-profile clinic in Lodz and Oral Surgery Department of Medical University of Lodz. Each patient filled a questionnaire which contained demographic data (age, sex, place of residence, education), questions related to the oral cavity (a subjective estimate of the patient’s own oral hygiene, frequency of teeth brushing, last visit to the GDP), and five questions about the influence of the oral hygiene on the cardiovascular system with three options: Yes, No, and I don’t know. Results: Most patients realize that decayed teeth can cause inflammation in the body and influence the development of cardiovascular diseases. On the other hand, only less then half of the patients have knowledge about correlation between oral health and development of atherosclerosis. Conclusion: Increasing patients’ knowledge about the oral health and hygiene, the condition of the dentition and gums, and the overall health, including heart diseases, is a very important aspect of dentists’, general practitioners’ and cardiologists’ work. Patients are aware of the influence of the oral hygiene on their health but their knowledge needs to be deepened and systematized. Key words: oral hygiene, cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis

Disorders in the structure of blood vessels walls result in developing pathological lesions called hemangiomas. The case describes a 16-year-old male patient with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) who was treated surgically due to hemangioma of upper jaw. The patient suffered from typical for Sturge-Weber syndrome congenital disorders of other organs. In these cases surgical treatment requires deep analysis and proper procedure planning in the context of hemostasis. W artykule opisano przypadek 9-letniej pacjentki poddanej zabiegowi usunięcia zębiaka zestawnego lewej szczęki w odcinku przednim. U pacjentki obserwowano typowe dla guzów zębodpochodnych u dzieci przetrwanie zębów mlecznych, będące wynikiem braku możliwości erupcji zębów stałych, blokowanych przez masę guza. Wszelkie zmiany patologiczne jamy ustnej u dzieci wymagają wnikliwej analizy i właściwego postępowania chirurgicznego. Słowa kluczowe: zmiany nowotworopodobne, zębiak, zębiak zestawny, chirurgia, ząb zatrzymany, przetrwały ząb mleczny, znieczulenie ogólne Abstract Odontogenic tumor-like lesions are the one of the most commonly presented in jawbones. In the article described 9-year-old patient case who had been treated surgically due to compound odontoma of the left maxilla in the anterior segment. In the patient observed typical for odontogenic tumors in children persisted deciduous teeth. It results from the lack of the eruptive force of permanent teeth, blocked by the mass of the tumor. Any pathological lesions of the oral cavity in children require deep analysis and proper surgical proceeding. Jest miarą szybkości opadania krwinek czerwonych w osoczu krwi. Określany jest standardowo po upływie 1 godziny. Celem pracy było wykazanie relacji pomiędzy zębopochodnymi stanami zapalnymi a przyspieszonym OB. u chorych z infekcyjnym zapaleniem wsierdzia. Materiał i metody Roczną obserwacją kliniczną objęto 14 pacjentów, skierowanych na konsultację z infekcyjnym zapaleniem wsierdzia i przyspieszonym OB. U pacjentów badaniem klinicznym i radiologicznym stwierdzono zębopochodne stany zapalne, które usunięto chirurgicznie . Wyniki W badaniach kontrolnych po 1. i 3. miesiącach po zabiegu stwierdzono zmniejszenie wartości OB. z 2- cyfrowego na 1-cyfrowe. Wniosek Zębopochodne stany zapalne powodują przyspieszone OB. u pacjentów z infekcyjnym zapaleniem wsierdzia. Słowa kluczowe: zębopochodne stany zapalne, infekcyjne zapalenie wsierdzia. Abstract The erythrocyte sedimentation rate also called a sedimentation rate, is the rate at which red blood cells sediment in a period of one hour. The aim of the study was to show a relation between odontogenic infections and acceleration of erythrocyte sedimentation rate in patients with infectious endocarditis. Material and methods. Yearly observation of 14 patients, referred for a consultation because of infectious endocarditis and accelerated sedimentation rate. Clinical and radiological examination showed odontogenic inflammations, which were removed surgically. Results. Checkups after 1 and 3 months after the procedure showed a decrease in the sedimentation rate from two to one figure. Conclusion. Odontogenic inflammations cause acceleration of erythrocyte sedimentation rate in patients with infectious endocarditis. Key words: odontogenic infections, infectious endocarditis.
