1. Compilation of Trotter-Based Time Evolution for Partially Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing Architecture

Abstract: Achieving practical quantum speedup with limited resources is a crucial challenge in both academic and industrial communities. To address this, a partially fault-tolerant quantum computing architecture called ``space-time efficient analog rotation quantum computing architecture (STAR architecture)'' has been recently proposed. This architecture focuses on minimizing resource requirements while maximizing the precision of non-Clifford gates, essential for universal quantum computation. However, non-deterministic processes such as the repeat-until-success (RUS) protocol and state injection can introduce significant computational overhead. Therefore, optimizing the logical circuit to minimize this overhead by using efficient fault-tolerant operations is essential. This paper presents an efficient method for simulating the time evolution of the 2D Hubbard model Hamiltonian, a promising application of the STAR architecture. We present two techniques, parallel injection protocol and adaptive injection region updating, to reduce unnecessary time overhead specific to our architecture. By integrating these with the existing fSWAP technique, we develop an efficient Trotter-based time evolution operation for the 2D Hubbard model. Our analysis reveals an acceleration of over 10 times compared to naive serial compilation. This optimized compilation enables us to estimate the computational resources required for quantum phase estimation of the 2D Hubbard model. For devices with a physical error rate of $p_{\rm phys} = 10^{-4}$, we estimate that approximately $6.5 \times 10^4$ physical qubits are required to achieve faster ground state energy estimation of the $8\times8$ Hubbard model compared to classical computation., Comment: 22 pages, 33 figures

2. Practical quantum advantage on partially fault-tolerant quantum computer

Abstract: Achieving quantum speedups in practical tasks remains challenging for current noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. These devices always encounter significant obstacles such as inevitable physical errors and the limited scalability of current near-term algorithms. Meanwhile, assuming a typical architecture for fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC), realistic applications inevitably require a vast number of qubits, typically exceeding $10^6$, which seems far beyond near-term realization. In this work, to bridge the gap between the NISQ and FTQC eras, we propose an alternative approach to achieve practical quantum advantages on early-FTQC devices. Our framework is based on partially fault-tolerant logical operations to minimize spatial overhead and avoids the costly distillation techniques typically required for executing non-Clifford gates. To this end, we develop a space-time efficient state preparation protocol to generate an ancillary non-Clifford state consumed for implementing an analog rotation gate with an arbitrary small angle $\theta$ and a remarkably low worst-case error rate below $\mathcal{O}(|\theta| p_{\text{ph}})$, where $p_{\text{ph}}$ is the physical error rate. Furthermore, we propose several error suppression schemes tailored to our preparation protocol, which are essential to minimize the overhead for mitigating errors. Based on this framework, we present several promising applications that leverage the potential of our framework, including the Trotter simulation and quantum phase estimation (QPE). Notably, we demonstrate that our framework allows us to perform the QPE for $(8\times 8)$-site Hubbard model with fewer than $4.9\times 10^4$ qubits and an execution time of 9 days (or 12 minutes with full parallelization) under $p_{\text{ph}}=10^{-4}$, which is significantly faster than recent classical estimation with tensor network techniques (DMRG and PEPS).

3. Clustering-friendly Representation Learning for Enhancing Salient Features

Abstract: Recently, representation learning with contrastive learning algorithms has been successfully applied to challenging unlabeled datasets. However, these methods are unable to distinguish important features from unimportant ones under simply unsupervised settings, and definitions of importance vary according to the type of downstream task or analysis goal, such as the identification of objects or backgrounds. In this paper, we focus on unsupervised image clustering as the downstream task and propose a representation learning method that enhances features critical to the clustering task. We extend a clustering-friendly contrastive learning method and incorporate a contrastive analysis approach, which utilizes a reference dataset to separate important features from unimportant ones, into the design of loss functions. Conducting an experimental evaluation of image clustering for three datasets with characteristic backgrounds, we show that for all datasets, our method achieves higher clustering scores compared with conventional contrastive analysis and deep clustering methods., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 28th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD2024)

4. Subspace-Based Local Compilation of Variational Quantum Circuits for Large-Scale Quantum Many-Body Simulation

Abstract: Simulation of quantum many-body systems is a promising application of quantum computers. However, implementing the time-evolution operator as a quantum circuit efficiently on near-term devices with limited resources is challenging. Standard approaches like Trotterization often require deep circuits, making them impractical. This paper proposes a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm called Local Subspace Variational Quantum Compilation (LSVQC) for compiling the time-evolution operator. The LSVQC uses variational optimization to reproduce the action of the target time-evolution operator within a physically reasonable subspace. Optimization is performed on small local subsystems based on the Lieb-Robinson bound, allowing for cost function evaluation using small-scale quantum devices or classical computers. Numerical simulations on a spin-lattice model and an $\mathit{\text{ab initio}}$ effective model of strongly correlated material Sr$_2$CuO$_3$ demonstrate the algorithm's effectiveness. It is shown that the LSVQC achieves a 95% reduction in circuit depth compared to Trotterization while maintaining accuracy. The subspace restriction also reduces resource requirements and improves accuracy. Furthermore, we estimate the gate count needed to execute the quantum simulations using the LSVQC on near-term quantum computing architectures in the noisy intermediate-scale or early fault-tolerant quantum computing era. Abstract: We present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10$^{-3}$ Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Finally, the derived Swift-BAT upper limits are used to infer constraints on the putative electromagnetic emission associated with binary black hole mergers., Comment: 50 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables

6. Defect-Mediated Bulk Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction in Ferromagnetic Multilayer Thin Films

Abstract: The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in asymmetric multilayers is crucial for spintronics. However, it is also significant even in symmetric ones, and unveiling its atomic-level origin remains an issue. We use electron microscopy to propose defect-mediated bulk DMI in Pt/Co/Pt. We find an enhancement of the net DMI by increasing sputter gas pressure. The samples have a compositional gradient, but their compositional asymmetry is weak. Our analysis suggests that the asymmetric distribution of dislocations in the compositional gradient regions generates bulk DMI. Our results indicate the importance of bulk DMI in multilayers and could facilitate the development of spintronic devices.

7. Domain-stored skyrmion structures for a reading error-detectable racetrack memory

Abstract: Magnetic racetrack memory (RTM) uses a series of either domains or skyrmions as data bits along nanowires. However, it lacks reading error detection capability in nanowires, which requires high electric current density for the deterministic motion of domain walls (DWs) or skyrmions. Here, we propose a method of a reading error-detectable RTM and explore domain-stored skyrmion structures for this RTM. This method uses domains as memory cells and assigns the presence and absence of a skyrmion in a domain to different bits, enabling the electrical signal of any memory cells to output the opposite sign to that of the adjacent memory cells. Using simulations and Lorentz microscopy, we demonstrate that perpendicularly magnetized nanowires with relatively large Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction can achieve domain-stored skyrmion structures. Additionally, our simulations show that when DWs approach to skyrmions during spin-orbit torque-induced motion, angular momentum transfers from DWs to skyrmions, resulting in fast motion of skyrmions.

8. Quantum Curriculum Learning

Abstract: Quantum machine learning (QML) requires significant quantum resources to achieve quantum advantage. Research should prioritize both the efficient design of quantum architectures and the development of learning strategies to optimize resource usage. We propose a framework called quantum curriculum learning (Q-CurL) for quantum data, where the curriculum introduces simpler tasks or data to the learning model before progressing to more challenging ones. We define the curriculum criteria based on the data density ratio between tasks to determine the curriculum order. We also implement a dynamic learning schedule to emphasize the significance of quantum data in optimizing the loss function. Empirical evidence shows that Q-CurL significantly enhances the training convergence and the generalization for unitary learning tasks and improves the robustness of quantum phase recognition tasks. Abstract: We report an estimation of the injected mass composition of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) at energies higher than 10 EeV. The composition is inferred from an energy-dependent sky distribution of UHECR events observed by the Telescope Array surface detector by comparing it to the Large Scale Structure of the local Universe. In the case of negligible extra-galactic magnetic fields the results are consistent with a relatively heavy injected composition at E ~ 10 EeV that becomes lighter up to E ~ 100 EeV, while the composition at E > 100 EeV is very heavy. The latter is true even in the presence of highest experimentally allowed extra-galactic magnetic fields, while the composition at lower energies can be light if a strong EGMF is present. Abstract: We use a new method to estimate the injected mass composition of ultrahigh cosmic rays (UHECRs) at energies higher than 10 EeV. The method is based on comparison of the energy-dependent distribution of cosmic ray arrival directions as measured by the Telescope Array experiment (TA) with that calculated in a given putative model of UHECR under the assumption that sources trace the large-scale structure (LSS) of the Universe. As we report in the companion letter, the TA data show large deflections with respect to the LSS which can be explained, assuming small extra-galactic magnetic fields (EGMF), by an intermediate composition changing to a heavy one (iron) in the highest energy bin. Here we show that these results are robust to uncertainties in UHECR injection spectra, the energy scale of the experiment and galactic magnetic fields (GMF). The assumption of weak EGMF, however, strongly affects this interpretation at all but the highest energies E > 100 EeV, where the remarkable isotropy of the data implies a heavy injected composition even in the case of strong EGMF. Abstract: We report on an observation of the difference between northern and southern skies of the ultrahigh energy cosmic ray energy spectrum with a significance of ${\sim}8\sigma$. We use measurements from the two largest experiments$\unicode{x2014}$the Telescope Array observing the northern hemisphere and the Pierre Auger Observatory viewing the southern hemisphere. Since the comparison of two measurements from different observatories introduces the issue of possible systematic differences between detectors and analyses, we validate the methodology of the comparison by examining the region of the sky where the apertures of the two observatories overlap. Although the spectra differ in this region, we find that there is only a $1.8\sigma$ difference between the spectrum measurements when anisotropic regions are removed and a fiducial cut in the aperture is applied., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

13. Trade-off between Gradient Measurement Efficiency and Expressivity in Deep Quantum Neural Networks

Abstract: Quantum neural networks (QNNs) require an efficient training algorithm to achieve practical quantum advantages. A promising approach is the use of gradient-based optimization algorithms, where gradients are estimated through quantum measurements. However, general QNNs lack an efficient gradient measurement algorithm, which poses a fundamental and practical challenge to realizing scalable QNNs. In this work, we rigorously prove a trade-off between gradient measurement efficiency, defined as the mean number of simultaneously measurable gradient components, and expressivity in a wide class of deep QNNs, elucidating the theoretical limits and possibilities of efficient gradient estimation. This trade-off implies that a more expressive QNN requires a higher measurement cost in gradient estimation, whereas we can increase gradient measurement efficiency by reducing the QNN expressivity to suit a given task. We further propose a general QNN ansatz called the stabilizer-logical product ansatz (SLPA), which can reach the upper limit of the trade-off inequality by leveraging the symmetric structure of the quantum circuit. In learning an unknown symmetric function, the SLPA drastically reduces the quantum resources required for training while maintaining accuracy and trainability compared to a well-designed symmetric circuit based on the parameter-shift method. Our results not only reveal a theoretical understanding of efficient training in QNNs but also provide a standard and broadly applicable efficient QNN design., Comment: 31 pages, 11 figures

Abstract: Unveiling the emergence and prevalence of massive/bright galaxies during the epoch of reionization and beyond, within the first 600 million years of the Universe, stands as a pivotal pursuit in astronomy. Remarkable progress has been made by JWST in identifying an immense population of bright galaxies, which hints at exceptionally efficient galaxy assembly processes. However, the underlying physical mechanisms propelling their rapid growth remain unclear. With this in mind, millimeter and submillimeter-wave spectroscopic observations of redshifted far-infrared spectral lines, particularly the [O III] 88 micron and [C II] 158 micron lines, offers a crucial pathway to address this fundamental query. To this end, we develop a dual-polarization sideband-separating superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) mixer receiver, FINER, for the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) situated in Mexico. Harnessing advancements from ALMA's wideband sensitivity upgrade (WSU) technology, FINER covers radio frequencies spanning 120-360 GHz, delivering an instantaneous intermediate frequency (IF) of 3-21 GHz per sideband per polarization, which is followed by a set of 10.24 GHz-wide digital spectrometers. At 40% of ALMA's light-collecting area, the LMT's similar atmospheric transmittance and FINER's 5 times wider bandwidth compared to ALMA culminate in an unparalleled spectral scanning capability in the northern hemisphere, paving the way for finer spectral-resolution detection of distant galaxies., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, and 3 tables. 15. Multifractality in monitored single-particle dynamics

Abstract: We study multifractal properties in time evolution of a single particle subject to repeated measurements. For quantum systems, we consider circuit models consisting of local unitary gates and local projective measurements. For classical systems, we consider models for estimating the trajectory of a particle evolved under local transition processes by partially measuring particle occupations. In both cases, multifractal behaviors appear in the ensemble of wave functions or probability distributions conditioned on measurement outcomes after a sufficiently long time. While the nature of particle transport (diffusive or ballistic) qualitatively affects the multifractal properties, they are even quantitatively robust to the measurement rate or specific protocols. On the other hand, multifractality is generically lost by generalized measurements allowing erroneous outcomes or by postselection of the outcomes with no particle detection. We demonstrate these properties by numerical simulations and also propose several simplified models, which allow us to analytically obtain multifractal properties in the monitored single-particle systems., Comment: 18 pages, 20 figures, v2: References added

16. Elliptic Quantum Toroidal Algebras, Z-algebra Structure and Representations

Abstract: We introduce a new elliptic quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) associated with an arbitrary toroidal algebra g_tor. We show that U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) contains two elliptic quantum algebras associated with a corresponding affine Lie algebra bg as subalgebras. They are analogue of the horizontal and the vertical subalgebras in the quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,\kappa}(g_tor). A Hopf algebroid structure is introduced as a co-algebra structure of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) using the Drinfeld comultiplication. We also investigate the Z-algebra structure of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) and show that the Z-algebra governs the irreducibility of the level (k(\not=0),l)-infinite dimensional U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor)-modules in the same way as in the elliptic quantum group U_{q,p}(g). As an example, we construct the level (1,l) irreducible representation of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) for the simply laced gtor. We also construct the level (0,1) representation of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_N,tor) and discuss a conjecture on its geometric interpretation as an action on the torus equivariant elliptic cohomology of the affine A_{N-1} quiver variety., Comment: 47 pages

Abstract: We established a design method for a Magic-T with a single-layer dielectric/metal structure suitable for both wideband and multi-element applications for millimeter and submillimeter wave imaging observations. The design method was applied to a Magic-T with a coupled-line, stubs, and single-stage impedance transformers in a frequency-scaled model (6-14 GHz) that is relatively easy to demonstrate through manufacturing and evaluation. The major problem is that using the conventional perfect matching condition for a coupled-line alone produces an impractically large width coplanar coupled-line (CPCL) to satisfy the desired bandwidth ratio. In our study, by removing this constraint and optimizing impedances utilizing a circuit simulator with high computation speed, we found a solution with a $\sim$ 180 $\rm \mu$m wide CPCL, which is approximately an order of magnitude smaller than the conventional analytical solution. Furthermore, considering the effect of transition discontinuities in the transmission lines, we optimized the line length and obtained a design solution with return loss < -20 dB, amplitude imbalance < 0.1 dB, and phase imbalance < 0.5$^\circ$ from 6.1 GHz to 14.1 GHz., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, published in the Journal of Low Temperature Physics

Abstract: In this study, we investigate a new self-supervised learning (SSL) approach for complex work activity recognition using wearable sensors. Owing to the cost of labeled sensor data collection, SSL methods for human activity recognition (HAR) that effectively use unlabeled data for pretraining have attracted attention. However, applying prior SSL to complex work activities such as packaging works is challenging because the observed data vary considerably depending on situations such as the number of items to pack and the size of the items in the case of packaging works. In this study, we focus on sensor data corresponding to characteristic and necessary actions (sensor data motifs) in a specific activity such as a stretching packing tape action in an assembling a box activity, and \textcolor{black}{try} to train a neural network in self-supervised learning so that it identifies occurrences of the characteristic actions, i.e., Motif Identification Learning (MoIL). The feature extractor in the network is used in the downstream task, i.e., work activity recognition, enabling precise activity recognition containing characteristic actions with limited labeled training data. Abstract: We report the observation of a coalescing compact binary with component masses $2.5\text{-}4.5~M_\odot$ and $1.2\text{-}2.0~M_\odot$ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level). The gravitational-wave signal GW230529_181500 was observed during the fourth observing run of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network on 2023 May 29 by the LIGO Livingston Observatory. The primary component of the source has a mass less than $5~M_\odot$ at 99% credibility. We cannot definitively determine from gravitational-wave data alone whether either component of the source is a neutron star or a black hole. However, given existing estimates of the maximum neutron star mass, we find the most probable interpretation of the source to be the coalescence of a neutron star with a black hole that has a mass between the most massive neutron stars and the least massive black holes observed in the Galaxy. We provisionally estimate a merger rate density of $55^{+127}_{-47}~\text{Gpc}^{-3}\,\text{yr}^{-1}$ for compact binary coalescences with properties similar to the source of GW230529_181500; assuming that the source is a neutron star-black hole merger, GW230529_181500-like sources constitute about 60% of the total merger rate inferred for neutron star-black hole coalescences. Abstract: A simple graph G admits an H-covering if every edge in E(G) belongs to at least to one subgraph of G isomorphic to a given graph H. For the subgraph H ⊆ G under a total k-labeling we define the associated H-weight as the sum of labels of all vertices and edges belonging to H. The total k-labeling is called the H-irregular total k-labeling of a graph G admitting an H-covering if all subgraphs of G isomorphic to H have distinct weights. The total H-irregularity strength of a graph G is the smallest integer k such that G has an H-irregular total k-labeling.

Abstract: Technical advancement of oxide molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) has opened new avenues for studying various quantum transport phenomena in correlated transition-metal oxides, as exemplified by the exotic superconductivity of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ and quantum oscillations of SrRuO$_3$. On the other hand, film research of another Ruddlesden-Popper strontium ruthenate Sr$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$ which exhibits a unique quantum phase related to metamagnetism in bulk systems did not progress well. Here we report the fabrication of high-quality Sr$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$ thin films by oxide MBE and the observation of a strain-induced ferromagnetic ground state. The change in magnetic exchange coupling evaluated by first-principles calculations indicates a systematic relation between the compression of the $c$-axis length and induced ferromagnetism. Giant epitaxial strain in high-quality films will be a key to a comprehensive understanding of the magnetism in Ruddlesden-Popper strontium ruthenates Sr$_{n+1}$Ru$_n$O$_{3n+1}$, which sensitively depends on the ratio of in-plane to out-of-plane Ru-Ru distances., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

23. Ferromagnetic Ising model on the hierarchical pentagon lattice

Abstract: Thermodynamic properties of the ferromagnetic Ising model on the hierarchical pentagon lattice is studied by means of the tensor network methods. The lattice consists of pentagons, where 3 or 4 of them meet at each vertex. Correlation functions on the surface of the system up to n = 10 layers are evaluated by means of the time evolving block decimation (TEBD) method, and the power low decay is observed in the high temperature region. The recursive structure of the lattice enables complemental numerical study for larger systems, by means of a variant of the corner transfer matrix renormalization group (CTMRG) method. Calculated spin expectation value shows that there is a mean-field type order-disorder transition at T1 = 1.58 on the surface of the system. On the other hand, the bulk part exhibits the transition at T2 = 2.269. Consistency of these calculated results is examined., Comment: 9 pages, 19 figures

24. SSM Meets Video Diffusion Models: Efficient Long-Term Video Generation with Structured State Spaces

Abstract: Given the remarkable achievements in image generation through diffusion models, the research community has shown increasing interest in extending these models to video generation. Recent diffusion models for video generation have predominantly utilized attention layers to extract temporal features. However, attention layers are limited by their computational costs, which increase quadratically with the sequence length. This limitation presents significant challenges when generating longer video sequences using diffusion models. To overcome this challenge, we propose leveraging state-space models (SSMs) as temporal feature extractors. SSMs (e.g., Mamba) have recently gained attention as promising alternatives due to their linear-time memory consumption relative to sequence length. In line with previous research suggesting that using bidirectional SSMs is effective for understanding spatial features in image generation, we found that bidirectionality is also beneficial for capturing temporal features in video data, rather than relying on traditional unidirectional SSMs. We conducted comprehensive evaluations on multiple long-term video datasets, such as MineRL Navigate, across various model sizes. For sequences up to 256 frames, SSM-based models require less memory to achieve the same FVD as attention-based models. Moreover, SSM-based models often deliver better performance with comparable GPU memory usage. Abstract: Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. By applying our search pipeline, which takes into account the stochastic nature of ultralight DM, upper bounds on the coupling strength between the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson and ordinary matter are obtained for a range of DM masses. While our constraints are less stringent than those derived from previous experiments, this study demonstrates the applicability of our method to the lower-mass vector DM search, which is made difficult in this measurement by the short observation time compared to the auto-correlation time scale of DM., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: We present emission maps (1.5'$\times$1.5' scale, corresponding to 0.18 pc) of the DCN ($J=2-1$) and DCO$^+$ ($J=2-1$) lines in the 2 mm band toward the Orion KL region obtained with the 2 mm receiver system named B4R installed on the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT). The DCN emission shows a peak at the Orion KL hot core position, whereas no DCO$^+$ emission has been detected there. The DCO$^+$ emission shows enhancement at the west side of the hot core, which is well shielded from the UV radiation from OB massive stars in the Trapezium cluster. We have derived the abundance ratio of DCN/DCO$^+$ at three representative positions where both species have been detected. The gas components with $V_{\rm {LSR}} \approx 7.5-8.7$ km/s are associated with low abundance ratios of $\sim4-6$, whereas much higher abundance ratios ($\sim22-30$) are derived for the gas components with $V_{\rm {LSR}} \approx 9.2-11.6$ km/s. Abstract: The beta-number, β (G), of a graph G is defined to be either the smallest positive integer n for which there exists an injective function f : V (G) → {0, 1, . . . , n} such that each uv ∈ E (G) is labeled |f (u) − f (v)| and the resulting set of edge labels is {c, c + 1, . . . , c + |E (G)| − 1} for some positive integer c or +∞ if there exists no such integer n. If c = 1, then the resulting beta-number is called the strong beta-number of G and is denoted by βs (G). In this paper, we show that if G is a bipartite graph and m is odd, then β (mG) ≤ mβ (G) + m − 1. This leads us to conclude that β (mG) = m|V (G)|−1 if G has the additional property that G is a graceful nontrivial tree. In addition to these, we examine the (strong) beta-number of forests whose components are isomorphic to either paths or stars.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Tumor-associated antigen (TAA)-specific CD8(+) T cells are essential for nivolumab therapy, and irradiation has been reported to have the potential to generate and activate TAA-specific CD8(+) T cells. However, mechanistic insights of T-cell response during combinatorial immunotherapy using radiotherapy and nivolumab are still largely unknown. METHODS: Twenty patients included in this study were registered in the CIRCUIT trial (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03453164). All patients had multiple distant metastases and were intolerance or had progressed after primary and secondary chemotherapy without any immune checkpoint inhibitor. In the CIRCUIT trial, eligible patients were treated with a total of 22.5 Gy/5 fractions/5 days of radiotherapy to the largest or symptomatic lesion prior to receiving nivolumab every 2 weeks. In these 20 patients, T-cell responses during the combinatorial immunotherapy were monitored longitudinally by high-dimensional flow cytometry-based, multiplexed major histocompatibility complex multimer analysis using a total of 46 TAAs and 10 virus epitopes, repertoire analysis of T-cell receptor β-chain (TCRβ), together with circulating tumor DNA analysis to evaluate tumor mutational burden (TMB). RESULTS: Although most TAA-specific CD8(+) T cells could be tracked longitudinally, several TAA-specific CD8(+) T cells were detected de novo after irradiation, but viral-specific CD8(+) T cells did not show obvious changes during treatment, indicating potential irradiation-driven antigen spreading. Irradiation was associated with phenotypical changes of TAA-specific CD8(+) T cells towards higher expression of killer cell lectin-like receptor subfamily G, member 1, human leukocyte antigen D-related antigen, T-cell immunoglobulin and immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motif domain, CD160, and CD45RO together with lower expression of CD27 and CD127. Of importance, TAA-specific CD8(+) T cells in non-progressors frequently showed a phenotype of CD45RO(+)CD27(+)CD127(+) central memory T cells compared with those in progressors. TCRβ clonality (inverted Pielous evenness) increased and TCRβ diversity (Pielous evenness and Diversity Evenness score) decreased during treatment in progressors (p=0.029, p=0.029, p=0.012, respectively). TMB score was significantly lower in non-progressors after irradiation (p=0.023). CONCLUSION: Oligo-fractionated irradiation induces an immune-modulating effect with potential antigen spreading and the combination of radiotherapy and nivolumab may be effective in a subset of patients with gastric cancer.

Abstract: We introduce a hypergoemetirc series with two complex variables, which generalizes Appell's, Lauricella's and Kemp\'e de F\'eriet's hypergeometric series, and study the system of differential equations that it satisfies. We determine the singularities, the rank and the condition for the reducibility of the system. We give complete local solutions of the system at many singular points of the system and solve the connection problem among these local solutions. Under some assumptions, the system is written as a KZ equation. We determine its spectral type in the direction of coordinates as well as simultaneous eigenspace decompositions of residue matrices. The system may or may not be rigid in the sense of N.~Katz viewed as an ordinary differential equation in some direction. 45. Roberge-Weiss periodicity and singularity in hadron resonance gas model with excluded volume effects

Abstract: Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) with pure imaginary baryon number chemical potential mu =i theta T, where T is temperature and theta is a real number, has the Roberge-Weiss periodicity. We study the theta-dependence of the baryon number density and the pressure in the hadron resonance gas model with excluded volume effects of baryons. It is shown that the baryon number density and the pressure are smooth periodic functions of theta at low or high temperature. However, they have singular behavior at theta =(2k+1)pi where k is an integer, when T sim 211MeV. This temperature is consistent with the Roberge-Weiss transition temperature TRW obtained by lattice QCD simulations. This singularity can be explained by the dual excluded volume effects in which the roles of point-like and non point-like particles are exchanged each other in the ordinary excluded volume effects. It is also indicated that the excluded volume effect is visible just below TRW and is directly detectable by the lattice QCD simulation at finite theta. 47. Comparative study of decoding the surface code using simulated annealing under depolarizing noise

Abstract: We explored decoding methods for the surface code under depolarizing noise by mapping the problem into the Ising model optimization. We consider two kinds of mapping with and without a soft constraint and also various optimization solvers, including simulated annealing implemented on a CPU, "Fujitsu Digital Annealer" (DA), a hardware architecture specialized for the Ising problems, and CPLEX, an exact integer programming solver. We find that the proposed Ising-based decoding approaches provide higher accuracy compared to the minimum-weight perfect matching (MWPM) algorithm for depolarizing noise and comparable to minimum distance decoding using CPLEX. While decoding time is longer than MWPM when we compare it with a single core CPU, our method is amenable to parallelization and easy to implement on dedicated hardware, suggesting potential future speedups. Regarding the mapping methods to the Ising model with and without a soft constraint, the SA decoder yielded higher accuracy without a soft constraint. In contrast, the DA decoder shows less difference between the two mapping methods, which indicates that DA can find a better solution with smaller number of iterations even under the soft constraint. Abstract: GRAPES-3 is a mid-altitude (2200 m) and near equatorial ($11.4^{\circ}$ North) air shower array, overlapping in its field of view for cosmic ray observations with experiments that are located in Northern and Southern hemispheres. We analyze a sample of $3.7\times10^9$ cosmic ray events collected by the GRAPES-3 experiment between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2016 with a median energy of $\sim16$ TeV for study of small-scale ($<60^{\circ}$) angular scale anisotropies. We observed two structures labeled as A and B, deviate from the expected isotropic distribution of cosmic rays in a statistically significant manner. Structure `A' spans $50^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$ in the right ascension and $-15^{\circ}$ to $30^{\circ}$ in the declination coordinate. The relative excess observed in the structure A is at the level of $(6.5\pm1.3)\times10^{-4}$ with a statistical significance of 6.8 standard deviations. Structure `B' is observed in the right ascension range of $110^{\circ}$ to $140^{\circ}$. The relative excess observed in this region is at the level of $(4.9\pm1.4)\times10^{-4}$ with a statistical significance of 4.7 standard deviations. These structures are consistent with those reported by Milagro, ARGO-YBJ, and HAWC. These observations could provide a better understanding of the cosmic ray sources, propagation and the magnetic structures in our Galaxy.

Abstract: When laser radiation is skilfully applied, atoms and molecules can be cooled allowing precise measurements and control of quantum systems. This is essential in fundamental studies of physics as well as practical applications such as precision spectroscopy, quantum-statistical-property manifesting ultracold gases, and quantum computing. In laser cooling, repeated cycles of laser photon absorption and direction-independent spontaneous emission can slow atoms and molecules to otherwise unattainable velocities. Simple systems can provide a rigorous testing ground for fundamental theories of physics; one such system is the purely leptonic positronium, an exotic atom of an electron and its antiparticle, the positron. However, the cooling of positronium has hitherto remained unrealised. Here, we demonstrate laser cooling of positronium. A novel laser system of a train of broadband pulses with successively increasing central frequencies was used to overcome major challenges presented by the short lifetime of positronium and the significant Doppler broadening and recoil as a consequence of its very light mass. One-dimensional chirp cooling of the dilute positronium gas in a counter-propagating configuration gave a final velocity distribution corresponding to approximately 1 K in a short time of 100 ns. This study on a pure leptonic system is a major step in the field of low-temperature fundamental physics of antimatter, and is complementary to the laser cooling of antihydrogen, a hadron-containing exotic atom. Progress in this field is vital in elucidating the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. The application of laser cooling to positronium may afford a unique opportunity to rigorously test bound-state quantum electrodynamics. Moreover, laser cooling of positronium is key to the realisation of Bose-Einstein condensation in this matter-antimatter system.

50. 20-Month-Old Infants' Use of Noun and Verb Morphosyntactic Cues in Novel Word Learning in Dynamic Events

Abstract: Using a habituation paradigm with a three-switch design, the present study investigated whether 20-month-old French-learning infants use noun and verb morphosyntactic cues to learn novel words in dynamic events differentially when both the agent and the action interpretations are possible. Of particular interest was whether infants' initial interpretation of novel nouns referring to novel animate objects in dynamic events includes not only the novel agents but also their actions. The following two contrastive hypotheses were specifically tested: (1) infants map novel verbs to the novel actions only and novel nouns to the novel agents only. Alternatively, (2) they map novel verbs to the novel actions only but novel nouns to both the novel agents and their actions. Infants watched dynamic events in which novel agents performed novel intransitive actions, while hearing novel words in a noun phrase or a verb sentence. When novel words were preceded by a pronoun "il", infants were able to map novel verbs to the actions but not to the agents. However, when novel words were preceded by a determiner "un", they mapped the novel nouns to both the agents and their actions. Two follow-up noun experiments showed that they mapped the novel nouns onto the agents and their actions, even when additional noun morphosyntactic cues were given. These findings demonstrate that 20-month-old infants are able to use noun and verb morphosyntactic cues to learn novel words in dynamic events differentially and provide some evidence to support that infants' initial representations of novel nouns referring to novel animate objects in dynamic events include both the agents and their actions.
