1. ADOPT: Modified Adam Can Converge with Any $\beta_2$ with the Optimal Rate

Abstract: Adam is one of the most popular optimization algorithms in deep learning. However, it is known that Adam does not converge in theory unless choosing a hyperparameter, i.e., $\beta_2$, in a problem-dependent manner. There have been many attempts to fix the non-convergence (e.g., AMSGrad), but they require an impractical assumption that the gradient noise is uniformly bounded. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive gradient method named ADOPT, which achieves the optimal convergence rate of $\mathcal{O} ( 1 / \sqrt{T} )$ with any choice of $\beta_2$ without depending on the bounded noise assumption. ADOPT addresses the non-convergence issue of Adam by removing the current gradient from the second moment estimate and changing the order of the momentum update and the normalization by the second moment estimate. We also conduct intensive numerical experiments, and verify that our ADOPT achieves superior results compared to Adam and its variants across a wide range of tasks, including image classification, generative modeling, natural language processing, and deep reinforcement learning. 2. Constraint-Driven Multi-USV Coverage Path Generation for Aquatic Environmental Monitoring

Abstract: In this article, we address aquatic environmental monitoring using a fleet of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). Specifically, we develop an online path generator that provides either of circular or elliptic paths based on the real-time feedback so that the USVs efficiently sample the sensor data over given aquatic environment. To this end, we begin by formulating a novel online path generation problem for a group of Dubins vehicles in the form of cost minimization based on the formulation of persistent coverage control. We then transform the cost minimization into a constraint-based specification so that a prescribed performance level is certified. An online coverage path generator is then designed based on the so-called constraint-based control in order to meet the performance certificate together with additional constraints inherent in the parameters that specify the paths. It is also shown there that the present constraint-based approach allows one to drastically reduce the computational complexity stemming from combinations of binary variables corresponding to the turning directions of the USVs. The present coverage path generator is finally demonstrated through simulations and experiments on an original testbed of multiple USVs.

3. Quasi-one-dimensional Spin Dynamics in a Molecular Spin Liquid System

Abstract: The molecular triangular lattice system, beta'-EtMe3Sb[Pd(dmit)2]2, is considered as a candidate material for the quantum spin liquid (QSL) state, although ongoing debates arise from recent controversial results. Here, the results of electron spin resonance (ESR) and muon spin relaxation (muSR) measurements on beta'-EtMe3Sb[Pd(dmit)2]2 are presented. Both results indicate characteristic behaviors related to quasi-one-dimensional (q1D) spin dynamics, whereas the direction of anisotropy found in ESR is in contradiction with previous theories. We succeed in interpreting the experiments by combining density-functional theory calculations and analysis of the effective model taking into account the multi-orbital nature of the system. While the QSL-like origin of beta'-EtMe3Sb[Pd(dmit)2]2 was initially attributed to the magnetic frustration of the triangular lattice, it appears that the primary origin is a 1D spin liquid resulting from the dimensional reduction effect., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: We present the results of a search for gravitational-wave transients associated with core-collapse supernova SN 2023ixf, which was observed in the galaxy Messier 101 via optical emission on 2023 May 19th, during the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA 15th Engineering Run. We define a five-day on-source window during which an accompanying gravitational-wave signal may have occurred. No gravitational waves have been identified in data when at least two gravitational-wave observatories were operating, which covered $\sim 14\%$ of this five-day window. We report the search detection efficiency for various possible gravitational-wave emission models. Considering the distance to M101 (6.7 Mpc), we derive constraints on the gravitational-wave emission mechanism of core-collapse supernovae across a broad frequency spectrum, ranging from 50 Hz to 2 kHz where we assume the GW emission occurred when coincident data are available in the on-source window. Considering an ellipsoid model for a rotating proto-neutron star, our search is sensitive to gravitational-wave energy $1 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2$ and luminosity $4 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2/\text{s}$ for a source emitting at 50 Hz. These constraints are around an order of magnitude more stringent than those obtained so far with gravitational-wave data. The constraint on the ellipticity of the proto-neutron star that is formed is as low as $1.04$, at frequencies above $1200$ Hz, surpassing results from SN 2019ejj., Comment: Main paper: 6 pages, 4 figures and 1 table. 5. Enhancing Unimodal Latent Representations in Multimodal VAEs through Iterative Amortized Inference

Abstract: Multimodal variational autoencoders (VAEs) aim to capture shared latent representations by integrating information from different data modalities. A significant challenge is accurately inferring representations from any subset of modalities without training an impractical number (2^M) of inference networks for all possible modality combinations. Mixture-based models simplify this by requiring only as many inference models as there are modalities, aggregating unimodal inferences. However, they suffer from information loss when modalities are missing. Alignment-based VAEs address this by aligning unimodal inference models with a multimodal model through minimizing the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence but face issues due to amortization gaps, which compromise inference accuracy. To tackle these problems, we introduce multimodal iterative amortized inference, an iterative refinement mechanism within the multimodal VAE framework. This method overcomes information loss from missing modalities and minimizes the amortization gap by iteratively refining the multimodal inference using all available modalities. By aligning unimodal inference to this refined multimodal posterior, we achieve unimodal inferences that effectively incorporate multimodal information while requiring only unimodal inputs during inference. Experiments on benchmark datasets show that our approach improves inference performance, evidenced by higher linear classification accuracy and competitive cosine similarity, and enhances cross-modal generation, indicated by lower FID scores. 6. Hadron-quark hybrid model, modular transformation and Roberge-Weiss transition

Abstract: In the framework of modular transformations, we reformulate the recently proposed hadron-quark hybrid model when the imaginary baryonic chemical potential is introduced. As a result, we can consider the torus, which is characterized by the complex number densities of baryons (antibaryons) and quarks (antiquarks). We apply this model to analyze the Roberge-Weiss transition. It is shown that the torus vanishes at the baryonic chemical potential where the Roberge-Weiss transition appears because the number density of baryons (antibaryons) is not linearly independent of the number density of quarks (antiquarks). When the temperature T is lower than the Roberge-Weiss transition temperature TRW, the torus shrinks smoothly to the one-dimensional object at the Roberge-Weiss transition point, but the discontinuity does not appear. On the other hand, the discontinuity of the geometrical object appears when T>TRW. We also calculate the modulus of the torus and transform it into the fundamental region. Abstract: The magnetar SGR 1935+2154 is the only known Galactic source of fast radio bursts (FRBs). FRBs from SGR 1935+2154 were first detected by CHIME/FRB and STARE2 in 2020 April, after the conclusion of the LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA Collaborations' O3 observing run. Here we analyze four periods of gravitational wave (GW) data from the GEO600 detector coincident with four periods of FRB activity detected by CHIME/FRB, as well as X-ray glitches and X-ray bursts detected by NICER and NuSTAR close to the time of one of the FRBs. We do not detect any significant GW emission from any of the events. Instead, using a short-duration GW search (for bursts $\leq$ 1 s) we derive 50\% (90\%) upper limits of $10^{48}$ ($10^{49}$) erg for GWs at 300 Hz and $10^{49}$ ($10^{50}$) erg at 2 kHz, and constrain the GW-to-radio energy ratio to $\leq 10^{14} - 10^{16}$. We also derive upper limits from a long-duration search for bursts with durations between 1 and 10 s. 8. Resource-efficient equivariant quantum convolutional neural networks

Abstract: Equivariant quantum neural networks (QNNs) are promising quantum machine learning models that exploit symmetries to provide potential quantum advantages. Despite theoretical developments in equivariant QNNs, their implementation on near-term quantum devices remains challenging due to limited computational resources. This study proposes a resource-efficient model of equivariant quantum convolutional neural networks (QCNNs) called equivariant split-parallelizing QCNN (sp-QCNN). Using a group-theoretical approach, we encode general symmetries into our model beyond the translational symmetry addressed by previous sp-QCNNs. We achieve this by splitting the circuit at the pooling layer while preserving symmetry. This splitting structure effectively parallelizes QCNNs to improve measurement efficiency in estimating the expectation value of an observable and its gradient by order of the number of qubits. Our model also exhibits high trainability and generalization performance, including the absence of barren plateaus. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the equivariant sp-QCNN can be trained and generalized with fewer measurement resources than a conventional equivariant QCNN in a noisy quantum data classification task. 9. Unconventional two-dimensional quantum oscillations in three-dimensional thick SrRuO$_3$ films

Abstract: SrRuO$_3$ is a prototypical transition metal oxide which hosts rich physical properties including itinerant ferromagnetism, high conductivity, and intrinsic Hall effect originating in the Weyl points. Recently, high-quality SrRuO$_3$ films with residual resistivity ratios of more than 50 have been reported to exhibit quantum oscillations at low temperatures in spite of its strong electron correlation. While the origin of the oscillations has been discussed in relation to Weyl orbits based on the Weyl semimetal band structure, so far experimentally reported results are neither consistent with each other nor with theoretically expected behavior, leaving the origin of the oscillations in SrRuO$_3$ films still elusive. In this report, we have carefully evaluated the quantum oscillations observed in three-dimensional thick SrRuO$_3$ films with a high residual resistivity ratio of RRR = 82. We reveal the coexistence of two oscillation components both derived from two-dimensional electronic states and with slightly different masses, suggesting the involvement of the surface Fermi arc states formed between different Weyl point pairs., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures

10. Quantum many-body simulation of finite-temperature systems with sampling a series expansion of a quantum imaginary-time evolution

Abstract: Simulating thermal-equilibrium properties at finite temperature is crucial for studying quantum many-body systems. Quantum computers are expected to enable us to simulate large systems at finite temperatures, overcoming challenges faced by classical computers, like the sign problem of the quantum Monte-Carlo technique. Conventional methods suitable for fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC) devices are designed for studying large-scale quantum many-body systems but require a large number of ancilla qubits and a deep quantum circuit with many basic gates, making them unsuitable for the early stage of the FTQC era, at which the availability of qubits and quantum gates is limited. In this paper, we propose a method suitable for quantum devices in this early stage to calculate the thermal-equilibrium expectation value of an observable at finite temperatures. Our proposal, named the Markov-chain Monte Carlo with sampled pairs of unitaries (MCMC-SPU) algorithm, involves sampling simple quantum circuits and generating the corresponding statistical ensembles. This approach addresses the issues of resource demand and the decay in probability associated with postselection of measurement outcomes on ancilla qubits. Abstract: We report an estimation of the injected mass composition of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) at energies higher than 10 EeV. The composition is inferred from an energy-dependent sky distribution of UHECR events observed by the Telescope Array surface detector by comparing it to the Large Scale Structure of the local Universe. In the case of negligible extra-galactic magnetic fields the results are consistent with a relatively heavy injected composition at E ~ 10 EeV that becomes lighter up to E ~ 100 EeV, while the composition at E > 100 EeV is very heavy. The latter is true even in the presence of highest experimentally allowed extra-galactic magnetic fields, while the composition at lower energies can be light if a strong EGMF is present. Abstract: We use a new method to estimate the injected mass composition of ultrahigh cosmic rays (UHECRs) at energies higher than 10 EeV. The method is based on comparison of the energy-dependent distribution of cosmic ray arrival directions as measured by the Telescope Array experiment (TA) with that calculated in a given putative model of UHECR under the assumption that sources trace the large-scale structure (LSS) of the Universe. As we report in the companion letter, the TA data show large deflections with respect to the LSS which can be explained, assuming small extra-galactic magnetic fields (EGMF), by an intermediate composition changing to a heavy one (iron) in the highest energy bin. Here we show that these results are robust to uncertainties in UHECR injection spectra, the energy scale of the experiment and galactic magnetic fields (GMF). The assumption of weak EGMF, however, strongly affects this interpretation at all but the highest energies E > 100 EeV, where the remarkable isotropy of the data implies a heavy injected composition even in the case of strong EGMF. This result also holds if UHECR sources are as rare as $2 \times 10^{-5}$ Mpc$^{-3}$, that is the conservative lower limit for the source number density., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in PRD

Abstract: We report on an observation of the difference between northern and southern skies of the ultrahigh energy cosmic ray energy spectrum with a significance of ${\sim}8\sigma$. We use measurements from the two largest experiments$\unicode{x2014}$the Telescope Array observing the northern hemisphere and the Pierre Auger Observatory viewing the southern hemisphere. Since the comparison of two measurements from different observatories introduces the issue of possible systematic differences between detectors and analyses, we validate the methodology of the comparison by examining the region of the sky where the apertures of the two observatories overlap. Although the spectra differ in this region, we find that there is only a $1.8\sigma$ difference between the spectrum measurements when anisotropic regions are removed and a fiducial cut in the aperture is applied., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

14. Compilation of Trotter-Based Time Evolution for Partially Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing Architecture

Abstract: Achieving practical quantum speedup with limited resources is a crucial challenge in both academic and industrial communities. To address this, a partially fault-tolerant quantum computing architecture called ``space-time efficient analog rotation quantum computing architecture (STAR architecture)'' has been recently proposed. This architecture focuses on minimizing resource requirements while maximizing the precision of non-Clifford gates, essential for universal quantum computation. However, non-deterministic processes such as the repeat-until-success (RUS) protocol and state injection can introduce significant computational overhead. Therefore, optimizing the logical circuit to minimize this overhead by using efficient fault-tolerant operations is essential. This paper presents an efficient method for simulating the time evolution of the 2D Hubbard model Hamiltonian, a promising application of the STAR architecture. We present two techniques, parallel injection protocol and adaptive injection region updating, to reduce unnecessary time overhead specific to our architecture. By integrating these with the existing fSWAP technique, we develop an efficient Trotter-based time evolution operation for the 2D Hubbard model. Our analysis reveals an acceleration of over 10 times compared to naive serial compilation. This optimized compilation enables us to estimate the computational resources required for quantum phase estimation of the 2D Hubbard model. For devices with a physical error rate of $p_{\rm phys} = 10^{-4}$, we estimate that approximately $6.5 \times 10^4$ physical qubits are required to achieve faster ground state energy estimation of the $8\times8$ Hubbard model compared to classical computation., Comment: Added a note to the main text. 15. Practical quantum advantage on partially fault-tolerant quantum computer

Abstract: Achieving quantum speedups in practical tasks remains challenging for current noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. These devices always encounter significant obstacles such as inevitable physical errors and the limited scalability of current near-term algorithms. Meanwhile, assuming a typical architecture for fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC), realistic applications inevitably require a vast number of qubits, typically exceeding $10^6$, which seems far beyond near-term realization. In this work, to bridge the gap between the NISQ and FTQC eras, we propose an alternative approach to achieve practical quantum advantages on early-FTQC devices. Our framework is based on partially fault-tolerant logical operations to minimize spatial overhead and avoids the costly distillation techniques typically required for executing non-Clifford gates. To this end, we develop a space-time efficient state preparation protocol to generate an ancillary non-Clifford state consumed for implementing an analog rotation gate with an arbitrary small angle $\theta$ and a remarkably low worst-case error rate below $\mathcal{O}(|\theta| p_{\text{ph}})$, where $p_{\text{ph}}$ is the physical error rate. Furthermore, we propose several error suppression schemes tailored to our preparation protocol, which are essential to minimize the overhead for mitigating errors. Based on this framework, we present several promising applications that leverage the potential of our framework, including the Trotter simulation and quantum phase estimation (QPE). Notably, we demonstrate that our framework allows us to perform the QPE for $(8\times 8)$-site Hubbard model with fewer than $4.9\times 10^4$ qubits and an execution time of 9 days (or 12 minutes with full parallelization) under $p_{\text{ph}}=10^{-4}$, which is significantly faster than recent classical estimation with tensor network techniques (DMRG and PEPS).

16. Clustering-friendly Representation Learning for Enhancing Salient Features

Abstract: Recently, representation learning with contrastive learning algorithms has been successfully applied to challenging unlabeled datasets. However, these methods are unable to distinguish important features from unimportant ones under simply unsupervised settings, and definitions of importance vary according to the type of downstream task or analysis goal, such as the identification of objects or backgrounds. In this paper, we focus on unsupervised image clustering as the downstream task and propose a representation learning method that enhances features critical to the clustering task. We extend a clustering-friendly contrastive learning method and incorporate a contrastive analysis approach, which utilizes a reference dataset to separate important features from unimportant ones, into the design of loss functions. 17. Subspace-Based Local Compilation of Variational Quantum Circuits for Large-Scale Quantum Many-Body Simulation

Abstract: Simulation of quantum many-body systems is a promising application of quantum computers. However, implementing the time-evolution operator as a quantum circuit efficiently on near-term devices with limited resources is challenging. Standard approaches like Trotterization often require deep circuits, making them impractical. This paper proposes a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm called Local Subspace Variational Quantum Compilation (LSVQC) for compiling the time-evolution operator. The LSVQC uses variational optimization to reproduce the action of the target time-evolution operator within a physically reasonable subspace. Optimization is performed on small local subsystems based on the Lieb-Robinson bound, allowing for cost function evaluation using small-scale quantum devices or classical computers. Numerical simulations on a spin-lattice model and an $\mathit{\text{ab initio}}$ effective model of strongly correlated material Sr$_2$CuO$_3$ demonstrate the algorithm's effectiveness. It is shown that the LSVQC achieves a 95% reduction in circuit depth compared to Trotterization while maintaining accuracy. The subspace restriction also reduces resource requirements and improves accuracy. Furthermore, we estimate the gate count needed to execute the quantum simulations using the LSVQC on near-term quantum computing architectures in the noisy intermediate-scale or early fault-tolerant quantum computing era. Abstract: We present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10$^{-3}$ Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Finally, the derived Swift-BAT upper limits are used to infer constraints on the putative electromagnetic emission associated with binary black hole mergers., Comment: 50 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables

19. Defect-Mediated Bulk Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction in Ferromagnetic Multilayer Thin Films

Abstract: The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in asymmetric multilayers is crucial for spintronics. However, it is also significant even in symmetric ones, and unveiling its atomic-level origin remains an issue. We use electron microscopy to propose defect-mediated bulk DMI in Pt/Co/Pt. We find an enhancement of the net DMI by increasing sputter gas pressure. The samples have a compositional gradient, but their compositional asymmetry is weak. Our analysis suggests that the asymmetric distribution of dislocations in the compositional gradient regions generates bulk DMI. Our results indicate the importance of bulk DMI in multilayers and could facilitate the development of spintronic devices.

20. Domain-stored skyrmion structures for a reading error-detectable racetrack memory

Abstract: Magnetic racetrack memory (RTM) uses a series of either domains or skyrmions as data bits along nanowires. However, it lacks reading error detection capability in nanowires, which requires high electric current density for the deterministic motion of domain walls (DWs) or skyrmions. Here, we propose a method of a reading error-detectable RTM and explore domain-stored skyrmion structures for this RTM. This method uses domains as memory cells and assigns the presence and absence of a skyrmion in a domain to different bits, enabling the electrical signal of any memory cells to output the opposite sign to that of the adjacent memory cells. Using simulations and Lorentz microscopy, we demonstrate that perpendicularly magnetized nanowires with relatively large Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction can achieve domain-stored skyrmion structures. Additionally, our simulations show that when DWs approach to skyrmions during spin-orbit torque-induced motion, angular momentum transfers from DWs to skyrmions, resulting in fast motion of skyrmions.

21. Quantum Curriculum Learning

Abstract: Quantum machine learning (QML) requires significant quantum resources to achieve quantum advantage. Research should prioritize both the efficient design of quantum architectures and the development of learning strategies to optimize resource usage. We propose a framework called quantum curriculum learning (Q-CurL) for quantum data, where the curriculum introduces simpler tasks or data to the learning model before progressing to more challenging ones. We define the curriculum criteria based on the data density ratio between tasks to determine the curriculum order. We also implement a dynamic learning schedule to emphasize the significance of quantum data in optimizing the loss function. Empirical evidence shows that Q-CurL significantly enhances the training convergence and the generalization for unitary learning tasks and improves the robustness of quantum phase recognition tasks. 23. Trade-off between Gradient Measurement Efficiency and Expressivity in Deep Quantum Neural Networks

Abstract: Quantum neural networks (QNNs) require an efficient training algorithm to achieve practical quantum advantages. A promising approach is the use of gradient-based optimization algorithms, where gradients are estimated through quantum measurements. However, general QNNs lack an efficient gradient measurement algorithm, which poses a fundamental and practical challenge to realizing scalable QNNs. In this work, we rigorously prove a trade-off between gradient measurement efficiency, defined as the mean number of simultaneously measurable gradient components, and expressivity in a wide class of deep QNNs, elucidating the theoretical limits and possibilities of efficient gradient estimation. This trade-off implies that a more expressive QNN requires a higher measurement cost in gradient estimation, whereas we can increase gradient measurement efficiency by reducing the QNN expressivity to suit a given task. We further propose a general QNN ansatz called the stabilizer-logical product ansatz (SLPA), which can reach the upper limit of the trade-off inequality by leveraging the symmetric structure of the quantum circuit. In learning an unknown symmetric function, the SLPA drastically reduces the quantum resources required for training while maintaining accuracy and trainability compared to a well-designed symmetric circuit based on the parameter-shift method. Abstract: Unveiling the emergence and prevalence of massive/bright galaxies during the epoch of reionization and beyond, within the first 600 million years of the Universe, stands as a pivotal pursuit in astronomy. Remarkable progress has been made by JWST in identifying an immense population of bright galaxies, which hints at exceptionally efficient galaxy assembly processes. However, the underlying physical mechanisms propelling their rapid growth remain unclear. With this in mind, millimeter and submillimeter-wave spectroscopic observations of redshifted far-infrared spectral lines, particularly the [O III] 88 micron and [C II] 158 micron lines, offers a crucial pathway to address this fundamental query. To this end, we develop a dual-polarization sideband-separating superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) mixer receiver, FINER, for the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) situated in Mexico. Harnessing advancements from ALMA's wideband sensitivity upgrade (WSU) technology, FINER covers radio frequencies spanning 120-360 GHz, delivering an instantaneous intermediate frequency (IF) of 3-21 GHz per sideband per polarization, which is followed by a set of 10.24 GHz-wide digital spectrometers. At 40% of ALMA's light-collecting area, the LMT's similar atmospheric transmittance and FINER's 5 times wider bandwidth compared to ALMA culminate in an unparalleled spectral scanning capability in the northern hemisphere, paving the way for finer spectral-resolution detection of distant galaxies., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, and 3 tables. 25. Multifractality in monitored single-particle dynamics

Abstract: We study multifractal properties in time evolution of a single particle subject to repeated measurements. For quantum systems, we consider circuit models consisting of local unitary gates and local projective measurements. For classical systems, we consider models for estimating the trajectory of a particle evolved under local transition processes by partially measuring particle occupations. In both cases, multifractal behaviors appear in the ensemble of wave functions or probability distributions conditioned on measurement outcomes after a sufficiently long time. While the nature of particle transport (diffusive or ballistic) qualitatively affects the multifractal properties, they are even quantitatively robust to the measurement rate or specific protocols. On the other hand, multifractality is generically lost by generalized measurements allowing erroneous outcomes or by postselection of the outcomes with no particle detection. Abstract: We introduce a new elliptic quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) associated with an arbitrary toroidal algebra g_tor. We show that U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) contains two elliptic quantum algebras associated with a corresponding affine Lie algebra bg as subalgebras. They are analogue of the horizontal and the vertical subalgebras in the quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,\kappa}(g_tor). A Hopf algebroid structure is introduced as a co-algebra structure of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) using the Drinfeld comultiplication. We also investigate the Z-algebra structure of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) and show that the Z-algebra governs the irreducibility of the level (k(\not=0),l)-infinite dimensional U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor)-modules in the same way as in the elliptic quantum group U_{q,p}(g). As an example, we construct the level (1,l) irreducible representation of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_tor) for the simply laced gtor. We also construct the level (0,1) representation of U_{q,\kappa,p}(g_N,tor) and discuss a conjecture on its geometric interpretation as an action on the torus equivariant elliptic cohomology of the affine A_{N-1} quiver variety., Comment: 47 pages

Abstract: We established a design method for a Magic-T with a single-layer dielectric/metal structure suitable for both wideband and multi-element applications for millimeter and submillimeter wave imaging observations. The design method was applied to a Magic-T with a coupled-line, stubs, and single-stage impedance transformers in a frequency-scaled model (6-14 GHz) that is relatively easy to demonstrate through manufacturing and evaluation. The major problem is that using the conventional perfect matching condition for a coupled-line alone produces an impractically large width coplanar coupled-line (CPCL) to satisfy the desired bandwidth ratio. In our study, by removing this constraint and optimizing impedances utilizing a circuit simulator with high computation speed, we found a solution with a $\sim$ 180 $\rm \mu$m wide CPCL, which is approximately an order of magnitude smaller than the conventional analytical solution. Furthermore, considering the effect of transition discontinuities in the transmission lines, we optimized the line length and obtained a design solution with return loss < -20 dB, amplitude imbalance < 0.1 dB, and phase imbalance < 0.5$^\circ$ from 6.1 GHz to 14.1 GHz., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, published in the Journal of Low Temperature Physics

Abstract: In this study, we investigate a new self-supervised learning (SSL) approach for complex work activity recognition using wearable sensors. Owing to the cost of labeled sensor data collection, SSL methods for human activity recognition (HAR) that effectively use unlabeled data for pretraining have attracted attention. However, applying prior SSL to complex work activities such as packaging works is challenging because the observed data vary considerably depending on situations such as the number of items to pack and the size of the items in the case of packaging works. In this study, we focus on sensor data corresponding to characteristic and necessary actions (sensor data motifs) in a specific activity such as a stretching packing tape action in an assembling a box activity, and \textcolor{black}{try} to train a neural network in self-supervised learning so that it identifies occurrences of the characteristic actions, i.e., Motif Identification Learning (MoIL). The feature extractor in the network is used in the downstream task, i.e., work activity recognition, enabling precise activity recognition containing characteristic actions with limited labeled training data. Abstract: We report the observation of a coalescing compact binary with component masses $2.5\text{-}4.5~M_\odot$ and $1.2\text{-}2.0~M_\odot$ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level). The gravitational-wave signal GW230529_181500 was observed during the fourth observing run of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network on 2023 May 29 by the LIGO Livingston Observatory. The primary component of the source has a mass less than $5~M_\odot$ at 99% credibility. We cannot definitively determine from gravitational-wave data alone whether either component of the source is a neutron star or a black hole. However, given existing estimates of the maximum neutron star mass, we find the most probable interpretation of the source to be the coalescence of a neutron star with a black hole that has a mass between the most massive neutron stars and the least massive black holes observed in the Galaxy. We provisionally estimate a merger rate density of $55^{+127}_{-47}~\text{Gpc}^{-3}\,\text{yr}^{-1}$ for compact binary coalescences with properties similar to the source of GW230529_181500; assuming that the source is a neutron star-black hole merger, GW230529_181500-like sources constitute about 60% of the total merger rate inferred for neutron star-black hole coalescences. Abstract: Technical advancement of oxide molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) has opened new avenues for studying various quantum transport phenomena in correlated transition-metal oxides, as exemplified by the exotic superconductivity of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ and quantum oscillations of SrRuO$_3$. On the other hand, film research of another Ruddlesden-Popper strontium ruthenate Sr$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$ which exhibits a unique quantum phase related to metamagnetism in bulk systems did not progress well. Here we report the fabrication of high-quality Sr$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$ thin films by oxide MBE and the observation of a strain-induced ferromagnetic ground state. The change in magnetic exchange coupling evaluated by first-principles calculations indicates a systematic relation between the compression of the $c$-axis length and induced ferromagnetism. Giant epitaxial strain in high-quality films will be a key to a comprehensive understanding of the magnetism in Ruddlesden-Popper strontium ruthenates Sr$_{n+1}$Ru$_n$O$_{3n+1}$, which sensitively depends on the ratio of in-plane to out-of-plane Ru-Ru distances., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

31. Ferromagnetic Ising model on the hierarchical pentagon lattice

Abstract: Thermodynamic properties of the ferromagnetic Ising model on the hierarchical pentagon lattice is studied by means of the tensor network methods. The lattice consists of pentagons, where 3 or 4 of them meet at each vertex. Correlation functions on the surface of the system up to n = 10 layers are evaluated by means of the time evolving block decimation (TEBD) method, and the power low decay is observed in the high temperature region. The recursive structure of the lattice enables complemental numerical study for larger systems, by means of a variant of the corner transfer matrix renormalization group (CTMRG) method. Calculated spin expectation value shows that there is a mean-field type order-disorder transition at T1 = 1.58 on the surface of the system. On the other hand, the bulk part exhibits the transition at T2 = 2.269. Consistency of these calculated results is examined., Comment: 9 pages, 19 figures

32. SSM Meets Video Diffusion Models: Efficient Long-Term Video Generation with Structured State Spaces

Abstract: Given the remarkable achievements in image generation through diffusion models, the research community has shown increasing interest in extending these models to video generation. Recent diffusion models for video generation have predominantly utilized attention layers to extract temporal features. However, attention layers are limited by their computational costs, which increase quadratically with the sequence length. This limitation presents significant challenges when generating longer video sequences using diffusion models. To overcome this challenge, we propose leveraging state-space models (SSMs) as temporal feature extractors. SSMs (e.g., Mamba) have recently gained attention as promising alternatives due to their linear-time memory consumption relative to sequence length. In line with previous research suggesting that using bidirectional SSMs is effective for understanding spatial features in image generation, we found that bidirectionality is also beneficial for capturing temporal features in video data, rather than relying on traditional unidirectional SSMs. We conducted comprehensive evaluations on multiple long-term video datasets, such as MineRL Navigate, across various model sizes. For sequences up to 256 frames, SSM-based models require less memory to achieve the same FVD as attention-based models. Moreover, SSM-based models often deliver better performance with comparable GPU memory usage. Abstract: Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. By applying our search pipeline, which takes into account the stochastic nature of ultralight DM, upper bounds on the coupling strength between the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson and ordinary matter are obtained for a range of DM masses. While our constraints are less stringent than those derived from previous experiments, this study demonstrates the applicability of our method to the lower-mass vector DM search, which is made difficult in this measurement by the short observation time compared to the auto-correlation time scale of DM., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures
