The extent of ovalization and the frequency of overlap of the two tunnel apertures were compared. Methods: The simulation of femoral tunnel drilling with the TT and the trans-AMP techniques was performed using three-dimensional computer aided design models from two volunteers. The incidence angle of drilling against the intercondylar wall, the femoral tunnel position, the ovalization, and the overlap were analyzed. The aperture and location of the tunnels were also examined in real anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction cases (n=36). Results: The surgical simulation showed that a lower drill incident angle induced by the TT technique made the apertures of two tunnels more ovalized, located anteromedial tunnels in a shallower position to prevent posterior wall blow out, and led to a higher frequency of tunnel overlap. The trans-AMP group had tunnel places within the footprint and had less ovalization and overlap. The results of analysis for tunnels in the clinical cases were consistent with results from the surgical simulation. Conclusion: In the TT technique, the shallow anteromedial tunnel location and more ovalized tunnel aperture can lead to a higher frequency of tunnel overlap. Compared with the TT technique, the trans-AMP technique was more useful in preparing femoral tunnels anatomically and avoiding tunnel ovalization and overlapping in double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Abstract

International audience; The OPERA experiment reached its main goal by proving the appearance of ντ in the CNGS νμ beam. Five ντ candidates were detected with a S/B ratio of ∼ 10, allowing to reject the null hypothesis at 5.1σ. The search has been extended by loosening the selection criteria in order to improve the statistical uncertainty. One of the ντ candidates selected with the new strategy shows a double vertex topology and, after a dedicated multivariate analysis, is compatible with being a ντ interaction with charm production. Based on the enlarged data sample the estimation of Δm2 23 in appearance mode is being performed. The search for νe interactions has been extended over the full data set with a more than twofold increase in statistics: data are compatible with the non-oscillation hypothesis in the three-flavour mixing model. The implications of the electron neutrino sample in the framework of the 3+1 sterile mode will lead to exclusion limits on sin2 2θμe. Finally, the analysis of the annual modulation of cosmic muons is introduced.

Abstract

The phase evolution and microstructure of bulk BSCCO 2212 were examined through x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy along with superconductivity property measurement. A large plate-like grains with were shown during the melt texturing. It was concluded that the kinetics and superconducting properties of bulk BSCCO are greatly influenced by Pb doping and that a modified higher Tc is introduced.

Abstract

Two types of Nb3Al superconducting tapes were fabricated using either Nb/Al or Nb/Nb2Al powders. The tapes had monocores in Nb sheaths. An X-ray diffractometer was used to study the microstructures. A maximum T(sub c) was shown by the Nb/sigma powder sample at an ohmically-heated temperature 200 degrees C lower than the Nb/Al sample and the Nb/sigma sample. The results showed that the sigma-phase acted as an effective pinning center at high magnetic fields in Nb3Al.

The search has been extended by loosening the selection criteria in order to improve the statistical uncertainty. One of the vÏ„candidates selected with the new strategy shows a double vertex topology and, after a dedicated multivariate analysis, is compatible with being a vTÏ„interaction with charm production. Based on the enlarged data sample the estimation of Δm223 in appearance mode is being performed. The search for veinteractions has been extended over the full data set with a more than twofold increase in statistics: data are compatible with the non-oscillation hypothesis in the three-flavour mixing model. The implications of the electron neutrino sample in the framework of the 3+1 sterile mode will lead to exclusion limits on sin22Î ̧Î1⁄4e. Finally, the analysis of the annual modulation of cosmic muons is introduced.

Abstract

An atmospheric plasma spraying technique was utilized in fabricating Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox superconducting coatings on silver substrates. An analysis was then conducted on the superconducting properties and microstructure of coating samples 30 mm long and 5 mm wide. The coatings exhibited superconductivity at liquid nitrogen temperature after they were annealed at 80-845-degrees celsius for 20 hours.

Abstract

S-LSR is a compact ion cooler ring built in ICR, Kyoto University, aiming at creating ultra-low temperature ion beam by laser cooling. In order to approach lowest possible temperature at S-LSR in an experiment, parameters of laser cooling should be carefully chosen by simulation. This paper mainly concerns optimization of laser cooling parameters and prediction of possible low limit of beam temperature at S-LSR. Firstly, the adiabatic capture process of ion beam is introduced and studied. Then, different laser profile parameters are compared and an optimized value is chosen. After that, optimized solenoid field strength for 3-D coupling is proposed. At last, by choosing the parameters proposed, the lowest beam temperature achievable for S-LSR is predicted to be 10 K in transverse direction and 0.05 K in longitudinal direction.

Abstract

To produce low friction coatings to be used as overlays for automobile journal bearings and to perform depositions with high rate, we prepared composite coatings of Ag and graphite by using the new-type spray gun based on the forced constricted type plasma jet generator (i.e. the high performance type spray gun). Characterization of the films showed the graphite phase dispersed into the Ag matrix, analyzed by optical microscopy, electron probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction. The coefficient of friction of the Ag/graphite overlay measured using ball-on-disc tribometer was reduced by a factor of five compared with that of bronze substrate and by factor of two compared with that of the Ag/graphite overlay prepared by ECR sputtering.
