In heavy-ion collisions, fluctuations of conserved charges are known to be sensitive observables to probe criticality for the QCD phase transition and to locate the position of the putative critical end point (CEP). In this work we seek to show that the Linear Sigma Model with quarks produces an effective description of the QCD phase diagram in which deviations from a Hadron Resonance Gas are due to plasma screening effects, encoded in the contribution of the ring diagrams. Accounting for these, it is possible to include in the description the effect of long-range correlations. To set the model parameters we use LQCD results for the crossover transition at vanishing chemical potential. Finally, studying baryon number fluctuations from the model, we show that the CEP can be located within the HADES and/or the lowest end of the NICA energy domain, $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\sim 2$ GeV., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics 2022

We show that the Linear Sigma Model with quarks produces an effective description of the QCD phase diagram and of the system's equilibrium distribution properties that deviate from those of the Hadron Resonance Gas Model. The deviation is due to the inclusion of plasma screening properties, encoded in the contribution of the ring diagrams and thus to the introduction of a key feature of plasmas near phase transitions, namely, long-range correlations. After fixing the model parameters using input from LQCD for the crossover transition at vanishing chemical potential, we study the location of the Critical End Point in the effective QCD phase diagram. It has been proposed that the $\Lambda$ and $\overline{\Lambda}$ polarizations observed in heavy-ion collisions are due to the interaction between quark spin and thermal vorticity. In this work we report on a computation of the relaxation time required for this alignment to occur at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential, considering quarks with a finite mass. The calculation is performed after modelling the interaction by means of an effective vertex which couples the thermal gluons and quarks within the vortical medium. We show that the effect of the quark mass is to reduce the relaxation time as compared to the massless quark case. An intrinsic global polarization of quarks/antiquarks emerges which is shown to be linked with the $\Lambda$/$\bar{\Lambda}$ polarization., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures. We show that the neutrino chirality flip, that can take place in the core of a neutron star at birth, is an efficient process to allow neutrinos to anisotropically escape, thus providing a to induce the neutron star kick velocities. The process is not subject to the {\it no-go theorem} since although the flip from left- to right-handed neutrinos happens at equilibrium, the reverse process does not take place given that right-handed neutrinos do not interact with matter and therefore detailed balance is lost. For simplicity, we model the neutron star core as being made of strange quark matter. We find that the process is efficient when the neutrino magnetic moment is not smaller than $4.7 \times 10^{-15}\mu_B$, where $\mu_B$ is the Bohr magneton. When this lower bound is combined with the most stringent upper bound, that uses the luminosity data obtained from the analysis of SN 1987A, our results set a range for the neutrino magnetic moment given by $4.7 \times 10^{-15} \leq \mu_\nu/\mu_B \leq (0.1 - 0.4)\times 10^{-11}$. We compute the relaxation time for quark/antiquark spin and thermal vorticity alignment in a quark-gluon plasma at finite temperature and quark chemical potential. We model the interaction of quark/antiquark spin with thermal vorticity as driven by a phenomenological modification of the elementary quark interaction with gluons. We find that in a scenario where the angular velocity of the quark-gluon plasma produced in a peripheral heavy-ion collision is small, quarks/antiquarks take a long time to align their spin with the vorticity. However, when the angular velocity created in the reaction is large, the alignment is efficient and well within the lifetime of the system created in the reaction. The relaxation time is larger for antiquarks which points out to a difference for the polarization of hadrons and antihadrons when this alignment is preserved during hadronization., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, discussion extended, version accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

We compute the neutral pion mass dependence on a magnetic field in the weak field approximation at one-loop order. The calculation is carried out within the linear sigma model coupled to quarks and using Schwinger's proper-time representation for the charged particle propagators. We find that the neutral pion mass decreases with the field strength provided the boson self-coupling magnetic field corrections are also included. The calculation should be regarded as the setting of the trend for the neutral pion mass as the magnetic field is turned on., Comment: 11 pages and 6 figures

We compute the gluon polarization tensor in a thermo-magnetic environment in the strong magnetic field limit at zero and high temperature. The magnetic field effects are introduced using Schwinger's proper time method. Thermal effects are computed in the HTL approximation. At zero temperature, we reproduce the well-known result whereby for a non-vanishing quark mass, the polarization tensor reduces to the parallel structure and its coefficient develops an imaginary part corresponding to the threshold for quark-antiquark pair production. This coefficient is infrared finite and simplifies considerably when the quark mass vanishes. Keeping always the field strength as the largest energy scale, in the high temperature regime we analyze two complementary hierarchies of scales: $q^2\ll m_f^2\ll T^2$ and $m_f^2\ll q^2\ll T^2$. In the latter, we show that the polarization tensor is infrared finite as $m_f$ goes to zero. We develop an artificial neural network (ANN) approach to classify simulated signals corrsponding to the semi-classical description of Bloch oscillations in pristine graphene. After the ANN is properly trained, we consider the inverse problem of Bloch oscillations (BO),namely, a new signal is classified according to the external electric field strength oriented along either the zig-zag or arm-chair edges of the graphene membrane, with a correct classification that ranges from 82.6% to 99.3% depending on the accuracy of the predicted electric field. This approach can be improved depending on the time spent in training the network and the computational power available. Findings in this work can be straightforwardly extended to a variety of Dirac-Weyl materials.

Theories that support dynamical generation of a fermion mass gap are of widespread interest. The phenomenon is often studied via the Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) for the fermion self energy; i.e., the gap equation. When the rainbow truncation of that equation supports dynamical mass generation, it typically also possesses a countable infinity of simultaneous solutions for the dressed-fermion mass function, solutions which may be ordered by the number of zeros they exhibit. These features can be understood via the theory of nonlinear Hammerstein integral equations. Using QED3 as an example, we demonstrate the existence of a large class of gap equation truncations that possess solutions with damped oscillations. We suggest that there is a larger class, quite probably including the exact theory, which does not. We study, using molecular dynamics techniques, how boundary conditions affect the process of fragmentation of finite, highly excited, Lennard-Jones systems. We analyze the behavior of the caloric curves (CC), the associated thermal response functions (TRF) and cluster mass distributions for constrained and unconstrained hot drops. It is shown that the resulting CC's for the constrained case differ from the one in the unconstrained case, mainly in the presence of a ``vapor branch''. This branch is absent in the free expanding case even at high energies . This effect is traced to the role played by the collective expansion motion. On the other hand, we found that the recently proposed characteristic features of a first order phase transition taking place in a finite isolated system, i.e. abnormally large kinetic energy fluctuations and a negative branch in the TRF, are present for the constrained (dilute) as well the unconstrained case.
