Cold electron bolometers have shown their suitability for use in modern fundamental physical experiments. Fabrication and measurements of the samples with cold-electron bolometers integrated into coplanar antennas are performed in this study. The bolometric layer was made using combined aluminum-hafnium technology to improve quality of aluminum oxide layer and decrease the leakage current. The samples of two types were measured in a dilution cryostat at various temperatures from 20 to 300 mK. The first sample with Ti/Au/Pd antenna shows response in the two frequency bands, at 7--9 GHz with bandwidth of about 20%, and also at 14 GHz with 10% bandwidth. The NEP below 10 aW/Hz^1/2 is reached at 300 mK for 7.7 GHz signal. The second sample with aluminum made antenna shows response in the frequency range 0.5--3 GHz due to the effect of kinetic inductance of superconducting aluminum., Comment: 6 pages, 9 figures

Multi-pulse femtosecond laser irradiation of a monolayer of polystyrene microspheres deposited on a polystyrene substrate leads to the formation of carbon nanomaterial exhibiting broadband excitation-dependent luminescence both within the microspheres and in the substrate. Initial polystyrene substrate and microspheres are transparent at the laser wavelength (800 nm). Peak intensity of the laser irradiation focusing by the microspheres reaches 1013 W/cm2, resulting in multiphoton absorption followed by ionization and further carbonization processes. Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy analysis show that carbonization products contain carbon crystalline nanoobjects.

We experimentally investigate magnetocaloric effect for the topological magnetic Weyl semimetal Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ in a wide temperature range. The isothermal magnetic entropy change $\Delta S$ is calculated from the experimental magnetization curves by using Maxwell relation. In addition to the expected $\Delta S$ peak at the Curie temperature $T_C$, we obtain another one at the temperature $T_{inv}$ of the hysteresis inversion, which is the main experimental result. The inverted hysteresis usually originates from the antiferromagnetic coupling between two magnetic phases. For Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ topological magnetic Weyl semimetal these phases are the ferromagnetic bulk and the spin-polarized topological surface states. Thus, the pronounced magnetocaloric effect at $T_{inv}$ is determined by the bulk magnetization switching by the exchange bias field of the surface spin-polarizad phase, in contrast to the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition at the Curie temperature $T_C$. For possible applications of magnetocaloric effect, Weyl semimetals open a new way to shift from ferromagnetic to the antiferromagnetic systems without loss of efficiency, but with higher reversibility and with smaller energy costs.

The discovery of an anomalous Hall effect (AHE) sensitive to the magnetic state of antiferromagnets can trigger a new era of spintronics, if materials that host a tunable and strong AHE are identified. Altermagnets are a new class of materials that can under certain conditions manifest a strong AHE, without having a net magnetization. But the ability to control their AHE is still lacking. In this study, we demonstrate that the AHE in altermagnetic {\alpha}-MnTe grown on GaAs(111) substrates can be "written on-demand" by cooling the material under an in-plane magnetic field. The magnetic field controls the strength and the coercivity of the AHE. Remarkably, this control is unique to {\alpha}-MnTe grown on GaAs and is absent in {\alpha}-MnTe grown on SrF2. The tunability that we reveal challenges our current understanding of the symmetry-allowed AHE in this material and opens new possibilities for the design of altermagnetic spintronic devices.

This work presents Adaptive Local-then-Global Merging (ALGM), a token reduction method for semantic segmentation networks that use plain Vision Transformers. ALGM merges tokens in two stages: (1) In the first network layer, it merges similar tokens within a small local window and (2) halfway through the network, it merges similar tokens across the entire image. This is motivated by an analysis in which we found that, in those situations, tokens with a high cosine similarity can likely be merged without a drop in segmentation quality. With extensive experiments across multiple datasets and network configurations, we show that ALGM not only significantly improves the throughput by up to 100%, but can also enhance the mean IoU by up to +1.1, thereby achieving a better trade-off between segmentation quality and efficiency than existing methods. Moreover, our approach is adaptive during inference, meaning that the same model can be used for optimal efficiency or accuracy, depending on the application. The relaxation time of several second generation molecular motors is analysed by calculating the minimum energy path between the metastable and stable states and evaluating the transition rate within harmonic transition state theory based on energetics obtained from density functional theory. Comparison with published experimental data shows remarkably good agreement and demonstrates the predictive capability of the theoretical approach. While previous measurements by Feringa and coworkers [Chem.\,Eur.\,J.\,(2017) 23, 6643] have shown that a replacement of the stereogenic hydrogen by a fluorine atom increases the relaxation time because of destabilization of the transition state for the thermal helix inversion, we find that a replacement of CH$_3$ by a CF$_3$ group at the same site shortens the relaxation time because of elevated energy of the metastable state without a significant shift in the transition state energy. Since these two fluorine substitutions have an opposite effect on the relaxation time, the two combined can provide a way to fine tune the rotational speed of a molecular motor.

Probing the quantum geometry and topology in condensed matter systems has relied heavily on static electronic transport experiments in magnetic fields. Yet, contact-free optical measurements have rarely been explored. Magnetic dichroism (MCD), the nonreciprocal absorption of circular polarized light, was theoretically linked to the quantized anomalous Hall effect in magnetic insulators and can identify the bands and momenta responsible for the underlying Berry Curvature (BC). Detecting BC through MCD faces two challenges: First, the relevant inter-band transitions usually generate MCD in the infrared (IR) range, requiring large samples with high quality. Second, while most magnetic materials are metallic, the relation between MCD and BC in metals remains unclear. Here, we report the observation of MCD in the IR range along with the anomalous Hall effect in thin film MnBi2Te4. Both phenomena emerge with a field-driven phase transition from an antiferromagnet to a canted ferromagnet. By theoretically relating the MCD to the anomalous Hall effect via BC in a metal, we show that this transition accompanies an abrupt onset of BC, signaling a topological phase transition from a topological insulator to a doped Chern insulator. Our density functional theory calculation suggests the MCD signal mainly originates from an optical transition at the Brillouin zone edge, hinting at a potential new source of BC away from the commonly considered {\Gamma} point. Our findings demonstrate a novel experimental approach for detecting BC and identifying the responsible bands and momenta, generally applicable to magnetic materials.

The Spin Physics Detector collaboration proposes to install a universal detector in the second interaction point of the NICA collider under construction (JINR, Dubna) to study the spin structure of the proton and deuteron and other spin-related phenomena using a unique possibility to operate with polarized proton and deuteron beams at a collision energy up to 27 GeV and a luminosity up to $10^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. As the main goal, the experiment aims to provide access to the gluon TMD PDFs in the proton and deuteron, as well as the gluon transversity distribution and tensor PDFs in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries using different complementary probes such as charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. Other polarized and unpolarized physics is possible, especially at the first stage of NICA operation with reduced luminosity and collision energy of the proton and ion beams. This document is dedicated exclusively to technical issues of the SPD setup construction.

We experimentally study magnetization reversal curves for MnTe single crystals, which is the altermagnetic candidate. Above 85~K temperature, we confirm the antiferromagnetic behavior of magnetization $M$, which is known for $\alpha$--MnTe. Below 85~K, we observe anomalous low-field magnetization behavior, which is accompanied by the sophisticated $M(\alpha)$ angle dependence with beating pattern as the interplay between $M(\alpha)$ maxima and minima: in low fields, $M(\alpha)$ shows ferromagnetic-like 180$^\circ$ periodicity, while at high magnetic fields, the periodicity is changed to the 90$^\circ$ one. This angle dependence is the most striking result of our experiment, while it can not be expected for standard magnetic systems. In contrast, in altermagnets, symmetry allows ferromagnetic behavior only due to the spin-orbit coupling. Thus, we claim that our experiment shows the effect of weak spin-orbit coupling in MnTe, with crossover from relativistic to non-relativistic net magnetization, and, therefore, we experimentally confirm altermagnetism in MnTe.

Microfluidic technology provides a solution to the challenge of continuous CaCO$_3$ particle synthesis. In this study, we utilized a 3D-printed microfluidic chip to synthesize CaCO$_3$ micro and nanoparticles in vaterite form. Our primary focus was on investigating a continuous one-phase synthesis method tailored for the crystallization of these particles. By employing a combination of confocal and scanning electron microscopy, along with Raman spectroscopy, we were able to thoroughly evaluate the synthesis efficiency. This evaluation included aspects such as particle size distribution, morphology, and polymorph composition. The results unveiled the existence of two distinct synthesis regimes within the 3D-printed microfluidic chips, featuring a channel cross-section of 2 mm$^2$. In the first regime, characterized by turbulence, particles with an average diameter of around 2 $\mu$m were produced, displaying a broad size distribution. Conversely, the second regime, marked by laminar flow, led to the synthesis of submicron particles (approximately 800-900 nm in diameter) and even nanosized particles (70-80 nm). This research significantly contributes valuable insights to both the understanding and optimization of microfluidic synthesis processes, particularly in achieving controlled production of submicron and nanoscale particles., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

The paper presents the investigation of ordinary and ternary vanadates with zircon and monazite structures. Vanadates LnVO4 and CaLnZr(VO4)3 , where (Ln = La, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Yb) and solid solution La0.3Nd0.5Sm0.1Eu0.1VO4, were prepared by precipitation reaction. Bulk ceramic samples were obtained from powders by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). The powders and ceramics were examined with several physicochemical methods. The coefficients of thermal expansion at 900{\deg}C were determined. The hydrolytic stability of ceramic materials was studied. Oxide Y2.5Nd0.5Al5O12 (YAG:Nd) with garnet structure was synthesized in the powder and ceramics forms. Fine-grained YAG:Nd ceramics with a relative density of ~99% were obtained by the Spark Plasma Sintering method (SPS). The radiation resistance of ceramics was studied under irradiation with swift Xe-ions (E = 146 MeV). A gradient defect structure is formed in irradiated ceramics, varying from layer to layer. The strained YAG phase formed as a result of Xe ions irradiation is localized in a near-surface layer with a thickness of ~5 {\mu}m. Full amorphization of the samples was observed under irradiation with a fluence of 1x10^13 cm-2. The calculated critical fluence was 6.5x10^12 cm-2, which corresponded to 0.03 dpa. The microhardness of the surface layers of irradiated ceramics is less than the central layers, and, in general, decreases with increasing ion fluence., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures, 33 references

We experimentally investigate magnetization reversal curves for a GeTe topological semimetal. In addition to the known lattice diamagnetic response, we observe narrow magnetization loop in low fields, which should not be expected for non-magnetic GeTe. The hysteresis is unusual, so the saturation level is negative in positive fields, and the loop is passed clockwise, in contrast to standard ferromagnetic behavior. The experimental hysteresis curves can not be obtained from usual ferromagnetic ones by adding/subtracting of any linear dependence, or even by considering several interacting magnetic phases. The possibility of several phases is also eliminated by the remanence plots technique (Henkel or {\delta}M plots). We explain our results as a direct consequence of the correlation between ferroelectricity and spin-polarized surface states in GeTe, similarly to magnetoelectric structures.

Antibacterial photodynamic therapy (a-PDT) has emerged as a promising non-invasive therapeutic modality that utilizes the combination of a photosensitive agent, molecular oxygen, and excitation light to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), demonstrating remarkable activity against multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. However, the effective use of conventional photosensitizers is significantly limited by a number of their shortcomings, namely, poor water solubility and low selectivity. Herein, we present a novel biocompatible water-soluble nanocomposite based on hydrophobic tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) molecules and hydrophilic ternary AgInS$_2$/ZnS quantum dots incorporated into a chitosan matrix as an improved photosensitizer for a-PDT. We demonstrated that TPP molecules could be successfully transferred into chitosan solution while remaining primarily in the form of monomers, which are capable of singlet oxygen generation. We performed a detailed analysis of the F\"orster resonance energy transfer (FRET) between quantum dots and TPP molecules within the nanocomposite and proposed the mechanism of the singlet oxygen efficiency enhancement via FRET.

We investigate the magnetic response of thin NiI$_2$ flakes for temperatures above 80~K. Since no magnetic ordering is expected for bulk NiI$_2$, we observe clear paramagnetic response for massive NiI$_2$ single crystals. In contrast, thin NiI$_2$ flakes show well-defined ferromagnetic hysteresis loop within $\pm2$~kOe field range. The value of the response does not scale with the sample mass, ferromagnetic hysteresis can be seen for any flake orientation in the external field, so it originates from the sample surface, possibly, due to the anisotropic exchange (Kitaev interaction). The observed ferromagnetism is weakly sensitive to temperature up to 300~K. If a flake is multiply exposed to air, ferromagnetic hysteresis is accompanied by the periodic modulation of the magnetization curves, which is usually a fingerprint of the multiferroic state. While NiI$_2$ flakes can not be considered as multiferroics above 80~K, surface degradation due to the crystallohydrate formation decreases the symmetry of NiI$_2$ surface, which produces the surface ferroelectric polarization in addition to the described above ferromagnetic one.
