Background: chronic kidney disease is considered a global public health problem, being asymptomatic in its earliest stages, the population is not aware of it. Objective: to determine the hidden morbidity by chronic renal disease in early stages, in patients with arterial hypertension. Methods: a study was conducted based on a descriptive, longitudinal, retrospective study. The universe was made up of 150 hypertensive patients from the No. 33 Doctors Office, from “Pedro Díaz Coello” Polyclinic, in the municipality of Holguín, during the year 2021. The sample of 41 patients was selected through non-probabilistic sampling taking into account some inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: the highest number of hypertensive patients was between 59 and 68 years, representing 36 %; males predominated in 19.5 %; the main risk factor was smoking in 12 patients with 29.26 %. According to renal markers (creatinine, microalbuminuria), 16 were altered with 39 %; according to the degree of chronic renal disease, in stage I, there is the greatest predominance for 62.5 % with 10 patients. Conclusions: there was predominance in hypertensive patients with chronic kidney disease between the ages of 59 to 68 years and males, with smoking and obesity associated as risk factors present in most, with a higher number of stage I patients and a close relationship between high blood pressure and the hidden morbidity of chronic kidney disease.

Fundamento: la evaluación de un programa supone la colección sistemática de datos y el análisis e interpretación de los mismos, con el propósito de determinar su validez e impacto. Servirá también para tomar decisiones sobre el programa. Objetivo: evaluar el subprograma de atención comunitaria al adulto mayor en el Policlínico Universitario “Pedro Díaz Coello”, del municipio Holguín, durante el año 2020. Métodos: se realizó una investigación en sistemas y servicios de salud, en el policlínico y periodo de tiempo declarados en el objetivo. El universo estuvo constituido por los 7446 adultos mayores, distribuidos en 38 consultorios médicos de familia. La muestra seleccionada, por muestreo aleatorio simple, fue de 160 historias clínicas pertenecientes a 16 consultorios médicos, para evaluar la dimensión proceso. La evaluación final del subprograma se consideró a partir del resultado de la evaluación de los tres componentes, estructura, proceso y resultado, a nivel de consultorio y policlínico. Resultados: las dimensiones estructura y proceso resultaron evaluadas de no satisfactorias; en los recursos humanos, de los siete criterios a evaluar, el 57,1 % obtuvo calificación de mal y en los institucionales el criterio más desfavorable fue la no existencia de una casa de abuelos; en la dimensión proceso, ocho de los diez criterios fueron evaluados de mal. La dimensión resultado tuvo 11 de los 15 criterios con calificación de bien, lo que representó el 73,3 % del total. Conclusiones: en la evaluación final del subprograma se evidenciaron dificultades tanto en la dimensión estructura como en los procesos.

Introduction: Early‐onset atrial fibrillation (AF) has already been observed in approximately 2% of patients with genetically proven long QT syndrome (LQTS). This frequency is higher than population‐based estimates of early‐onset AF. However, the concomitant expression of AF in LQTS is likely underestimated. The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical presentation, genetic background, and outcomes of a cohort of patients with LQTS and early‐onset AF referred to a single tertiary center. Methods: Twenty‐seven patients diagnosed with congenital LQTS were included in the study based on the documentation of early‐onset (age ≤50 years) clinical or subclinical AF episodes in all available medical records, including standard electrocardiograms, wearable monitor or cardiac implantable electronic devices. Results: Seventeen patients experienced clinical AF during the follow‐up period. Subclinical AF was detected in 10 patients through insertable or wearable cardiac monitors. In our series, the mean heart rate during AF episodes was found to be relatively low despite the patients' young age and the low or minimal effective doses of beta‐blockers used for QTc interval control. All patients exhibiting LQTS and early‐onset AF were genotype positive, carrying mutations in the KCNQ1 (66%), KCNH2, KCNE1, and SCN5A genes. Notably, most of these patients carried the same p.(R231C) mutation in the KCNQ1 gene (59%) and were from the same families, suggesting concurrent expression of familial AF and LQTS. Conclusion: LQTS patients are prone to developing clinical and subclinical AF, even at a younger age. The occurrence of early‐onset AF in the LQTS population could be more frequent than previously assumed. AF should be considered as a potential dysrhythmia related to LQTS. Our study emphasizes the importance of carefully researching clinical and/or subclinical episodes of AF through strict heart rhythm monitoring in the LQTS population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to present the time behavior of wastewater flow parameters, organic matter, biogas flow, biogas composition, and its relations, measured through online sensors, in a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operating full-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors, installed in the south of Brazil. WWTP has online measurement devices to evaluate some physicochemical variables of the sewage and the biogas. The COD analyzer (UV– Vis probe), ultrasonic flow meter, biogas flow meter, and biogas composition analyzer were the equipment used. The monitoring occurred for two time periods each of 72 h and one time period for 48 h in the year 2018. Data were checked with descriptive statistics, data independence was checked through the autocorrelation Box– Ljung test, normality behavior was checked with several tests (Shapiro– Wilk, Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Lilliefors, Anderson–Darling, D’Agostino K2, and Chen–Shapiro), and Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the correlations among the parameters. The mean sewage flow was 345 ± 120 L.s-1; removed organic load was, in average, 48%; biogas quality values were 82.32% ± 3.62% v/v (CH4), 2.66% ± 1.19% v/v (CO2), and 3453 ± 1268 ppm (H2S); and the production per capita obtained was 4.51 ± 1.65 NL.hab-1.d-1. It was estimated an electric power generation of 3118.6 kWh.d-1, which is equivalent to an installed power of 130 KW. The behavior of removed organic load and biogas flow (Nm3.h-1), produced in the treatment plant, showed variable, periodic, and nonstationary time behavior.

El mioma o fibroma uterino es el tumor benigno más frecuente en las mujeres en edad fértil. Estos fibromas son sintomáticos en una tercera parte de los casos aproximadamente, y tienen a veces una repercusión importante en la calidad de vida de las pacientes. La estimación de la prevalencia de los fibromas en la población ofrece resultados diversos según los diferentes estudios, que van desde el 4,6 % hasta el 51 %, debido a la gran variabilidad de las poblaciones estudiadas y a la falta de diferenciación entre fibromas sintomáticos y asintomáticos. Se informa una paciente que presentó un mioma uterino complicado con el aborto de un mioma submucoso tratado en el Hospital Universitario «Mártires del 9 de Abril» de Sagua la Grande, en el cual los síntomas eran muy escasos. Se exponen los elementos clínicos del diagnóstico. La paciente tuvo una evolución satisfactoria.

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal con la finalidad de determinar el comportamiento de algunos factores de riesgo de asma infantil en el municipio Baracoa durante el año 2017. La muestra fue intencionada de 60 niños asmáticos entre 5-14 años, las variables fueron edad, sexo, antecedentes familiares de asma, ambiente del hogar y psicológico familiar, así como la existencia de infecciones respiratorias frecuentes antes de dos años de edad. Los factores de riesgo como: sexo masculino, antecedentes de asma, alteraciones en el funcionamiento familiar, exposición al polvo y padecer infecciones respiratorias frecuentes antes de los 2 años influyen en la aparición del asma en los niños investigados.

From a socioeconomic and environmental standpoint, rubber cultivation is potentially important for Colombia, because it not only constitutes an alternative to the traditional mining, agricultural, and livestock activities, but also a beneficial option in the substitution of illegal crops. Thus, there is need to determine the factors restricting the productivity of the species, particularly soil-related aspects. In this context, the current research undertook the description and identification of soil physical and chemical properties in three rubber plantations located in a region known as Bajo Cauca Antioqueño, at the lower course of the Cauca river. The results indicate that these soils are classified as Ultisols, they are deep, with acid reaction and low levels of soil organic matter. Essential elements also exhibited low levels, except Cu. Fe and Al are also present in very high concentrations, while the cation exchange capacity is limited. These observations alert on the need for agronomic management techniques that allow the crop to express its full potential under conditions that are not very adequate for its growth and development

O presente artigo tem o objetivo de narrar o caso de uma jovem de 24 anos, que teve quadro de Tumor Filóides do tipo borderline, evidenciado durante cirurgia de excisão de fibroadenoma, e diagnosticado por exame histopatológico da lesão, sendo futuramente reabordado com nova cirurgia. O Tumor Filóides é uma neoplasia fibroepitelial incomum da mama, representando de 0,3 a 0,9% de todos os tumores primários daquele órgão. É comumente vista entre pacientes com 40-50 anos. Sendo mais raro ainda sua apresentação em jovens. Por fim este artigo apresenta breve revisão de literatura, mostrando que a conduta utilizada no caso foi correta.
