Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is the most common type of spinal vascular malformation. The main purpose of endovascular treatment is to occlude the fistula site and the proximal part of the draining vein. However, this is not always possible because of the difficulty of selective catheterization in patients with tortuous feeding arteries, as well as the risk of reflux of the liquid embolic agent. Herein, we present three cases in which a dual-lumen balloon catheter together with a liquid embolic agent was used to occlude the SDAVF. Complete and persistent occlusion was confirmed by magnetic resonance images taken at 6 months after the treatment. Using the dual-lumen balloon catheter technique in cases of long and tortuous feeder arteries supplying the SDAVF can result in safe and successful embolization.

A 45-year-old male presented with lid edema and blurred vision in his left eye. He had a history of operation for a sellar and parasellar mass 1 month ago. Best-corrected visual acuity was 7/10 in his left eye. He had marked lid edema, prominent chemosis, episcleral vascular injection, proptosis and mildly congested and tortuous retinal vessels in the left eye. Intraocular pressure was 35mmHg and eye movements were severely restricted in all directions in his left eye. Orbital magnetic resonance (MR) imaging showed left proptosis and cranial venous MR angiography demonstrated multiple tortuous and enlarged vessels near the left carotid artery and the left cavernous sinus resembling carotid-cavernous fistula, and enlarged superior ophthalmic vein. The patient underwent successful endovascular stent-graft implantation for the left iatrogenic carotid-cavernous fistula. At postoperative 3 weeks, visual acuity was 10/10 with complete regression of proptosis and restriction in his left eye. (Turk J Oph thal mol 2012; 42: 393-6)

Radioembolization with yttrium-90 microspheres is an accepted and useful intervention model with minimal invasion in both primary and secondary liver malignancies. Radioembolization may lead to some complications. Liver abscess is a rare complication that can occur several weeks after radioembolization treatment of liver tumor with yttrium-90 microspheres. There are only a few case reports on hepatic liver abscess observed in early term of radioembolization treatment, and our case also constitutes a rare report that may contribute to the possible future improvements in radioembolization field to get more insight into the current understanding of the formation of some deleterious insults such as hepatic abscess. © Springer-Verlag Wien 2014.

WOS: 000326873200008, PubMed ID: 23396463, Objectives: To investigate possible protrusions through stent cells, and the factors affecting protrusions after carotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS). Methods: This ex-vivo clinical study was performed between July 2010 and August 2011 at the Department of Radiology, Ege University School of Medicine, Izmir, Turkey. After approval by the Institutional Board, 15 successive carotid plaques, which were obtained intact after endarterectomies were included in the study. Plaques were placed into vascular grafts. Stent implantations and balloon angioplasties were performed. Afterwards, models were scanned with multislice CT and inner surfaces of stents were observed via fiberoptic endoscope. Protrusion measurement was carried out on endoscopic images according to a scale assuming the width of stent cell as one unit in the same level of each plaque protrusion. Results: Symptomatic plaques were lighter, less calcified. Plaque weights were inversely correlated to protrusion numbers and diameters of the narrowest segments of stents. Although they did not reach to statistically significant level, plaques having high protrusion numbers were more symptomatic and less calcified. Conclusion: Plaque protrusions into the lumen were apparent in our ex-vivo CAS model. The main factor increasing protrusions appeared to relate to the presence of symptoms before endarterectomy.

Developmental venous anomalies (DVAs) are common congenital venous drainage anomalies. Although they typically have a benign clinical course and a low symptomatic rate, thrombosis of a drainage vein may occur, leading to potentially debilitating complications. We report imaging findings of posterior fossa DVA with a thrombosed drainage vein in a patient with nonhemorrhagic cerebellar infarct. We also review the relevant literature on the subject.

PURPOSE: Most intracranial dissecting aneurysms involve the posterior circulation, and the intradural segment of the vertebral artery is affected in majority of these. The aim of this report is to summarize the results of endovascular treatment in patients with ruptured dissecting aneurysms of the non-vertebral posterior circulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: During the past six years, the medical records of 23 patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage related to dissecting aneurysm arising from non-vertebral arteries of the posterior circulation were reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS: The locations of the aneurysms were as follows: seven in the posterior cerebral artery, five in the superior cerebellar artery, six in the basilar artery trunk, and five in the posterior inferior cerebellar artery. Two basilar artery aneurysms were treated in the chronic stage with stent-assisted coil embolization. In the remaining patients, the aneurysm was coiled with or without parent vessel occlusion in the acute stage. One patient re-bled and died 20 days after initial treatment. At follow-up, recanalization had occurred in two patients, whose aneurysms were re-embolized successfully. Overall, three patients had permanent neurological sequelae, two had transient neurological sequelae, and one patient died. CONCLUSION: Embolization with or without parent artery occlusion is feasible with an acceptable morbidity and mortality rate in the treatment of dissecting aneurysms confined to non-vertebral arteries of the posterior circulation. © Turkish Society of Radiology 2009.

To examine the clinical and radiologic findings of patients with developmental venous anomaly (DVA) associated with intracranial haemorrhage but unrelated to cavernoma. Computed tomography (CT) was used to obtain intracranial images from seven patients ranging in age from 6 to 51 years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was then performed on six patients, and two patients were further examined via CT angiography. Finally, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was performed to confirm the initial diagnosis.

We report the imaging findings and endovascular treatment in an unusual case of petrous internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm due to primary tuberculous otitis. The aneurysm was recognized and ruptured during a surgical intervention for otitis.
