Study area – Vranov reservoir on the river Dyje lies in the South Moravian region in the Czech Republic. A multipurpose reservoir, Vranov, is a significant hydraulic structure whose primary purpose is water retention, including managing flood conditions. The reservoir itself and its surroundings are intensively used for recreation, and a hydroelectric power station has also been built there. In 1982, the reservoir began to be used as a source of drinking water. The objective of this study is to elaborate hydrological data – daily total precipitation and daily surface runoff – from 1981 to 2019, evaluate the influence of the Vranov water work, focusing on the hydrological extremes, and evaluate individual functions of this reservoir.

Nature swimming pools are a sought-after alternative to conventional swimming pools. Their natural water purification system, without the need for chemicals, is beneficial to health and environmentally friendly. Designing such a nature swimming pool is a complex matter because it requires coordination of a number of effects, which can easily cause an imbalance in the entire system. This work uses the case study method to analyse the overall condition of three nature swimming pools in the South Moravian Region during the second half of the swimming pool operation season.

Stavby a objekty na vodních tocích mají důležitý krajinotvorný, vodohospodářský a ekologický význam. Ovlivňují krajinný ráz a vytváří podmínky pro vznik nových biotopů. Ve venkovské krajině se v minulosti i současnosti budují malé vodní nádrže, mlýny, pily, malé vodní elektrárny, jezy a další vodohospodářské objekty a stavby, které více či méně ovlivňují daný tok i okolní krajinu. Při navrhování a výstavbě těchto objektů je nutné respektovat environmentální vztahy a postupovat v souladu s trvale udržitelným využíváním daného území. V minulosti bylo vybudováno mnoho objektů, které negativně ovlivnily daný tok i krajinu a zároveň ani neumožňovaly migraci ryb a obojživelníků, řada objektů je v současné době nefunkčních a mají negativní vliv na daný tok i okolní krajinu. V takových případech se přistupuje k revitalizaci toků, případně i odstranění nefunkčních objektů, často jsou budovány rybí přechody. Součástí práce je zhodnocení možností využití pozemků přilehlých k pevnému jezu na řece Svratce v obci Ujčov, a to z hlediska nenarušení biodiverzity, estetického a ekonomického potenciálu daného území. Byla vypracována studie s několika možnostmi využití daného území.

The ground source of drinking water for the village of Skalice nad Svitavou is located 35 km North of Brno (Czech Republic). An evaluation of developments in selected indicators of water quality in this groundwater source in the period 2013–2017 was the essence of this work. The data was provided by Vodárenská akciová společnost, a.s., i.e. the operator. At the same time, annual monitoring of water quality in the Úmoří stream, which flows through the catchment area and can affect the quality of groundwater, was carried out. Water samples were collected in 2017–2018 from 6 profiles on the Úmoří stream and its two tributaries. Raw water from the groundwater source does not meet the requirements for drinking water in some indicators and needs to be treated. Monitoring of surface water shows that the most problematic indicator is total phosphorus, the concentration of which exceeded limit values on all sampling profiles. The highest values were found in the tributaries, where total phosphorus concentrations exceeded 10 mg∙dm–3. There are 12 municipalities in the area of interest, only two of which have their own sewage treatment plant. It is clear from the results that wastewater in some municipalities is discharged directly into the recipient and is the cause of above-limit concentrations of both phosphorus and nitrogen. Intensively used agricultural land is another major source of pollution. Based on an analysis of sources of pollution, corrective measures have been proposed to improve the quality of surface and groundwater in the area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of our research is to confirm or refute the hypothesis, which says that agriculture is the main source of surface water pollution. Nowadays, when more than 82 % of the Czech population is connected to public sewerage system, it is assumed, that the wastewater has not a significant impact on the quality of surface water, as there are waste water treatment plants and similar facilities for cleaning the sewage. Thanks to a detailed field survey and regular sampling followed by laboratory analysis of water from selected streams in southern Moravia and the Highlands it was found although municipalities are connected to the public sewerage system, which brings the sewage water into the treatment plants, deteriorating the quality of the water flow right through the village. The results of laboratory analyses of water from the monitored flows show the process of self-purification, they are seeing a significant decrease in the concentration of certain substances by water flow through the selected sections of land use. On the other hand, in urban areas or flow through the arable land the water is enriched by pollutants, this is on many places evidenced by developing of undesirable algae. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
