This study was conducted to develop and evaluate the prediction accuracy and effectiveness of “ICT operation support system for urban flood control facilities,” which is installed in Eba catchment area in Hiroshima city, Japan. This system consists of real-time facilities monitoring technology, rainfall data from eXtended RAdar Information Network (XRAIN), and Real-time flood prediction technology. High prediction accuracy is crucial for effective control facility management using ICT operation support system. In this study, ICT operation support system was installed for effective operation of stormwater pump. The prediction accuracy and effectiveness of this system were evaluated based on the past rainfall record from XRAIN. The system takes only three minutes to distribute the urban flood prediction information, and it has been operated stably during the operation. Flood risk reduction effect can be better expected in case of central concentrated rainfall pattern.

To manage and orchestrate Network Slices (NSs) for 5G Core (5GC), the MANO (MANagement and Orchestration) framework is proposed by European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI). In most research testbeds, MANO systems such as Tacker, OSM and ONAP are used to initiate network slices. However, this doesn’t comply with the 3GPP 5G standards as MANO should only be responsible for dynamic management of NSs, and the static management such as provisioning or unprovisioning a network slice should be left to OSS/BSS (Operation/Business Support System). Thus, in our testbed, an integrated architecture was designed in which the management of network slices will be coordinated by both MANO and OSS/BSS. MANO would handle on-boarding, instantiating, scaling and terminating of network slices while OSS/BSS is responsible for static management of slices including provisioning and unprovisioning of network slices. To evaluate our system, it was compared with the management systems equipped with only OSS/BSS or MANO in order to analyze the shortfalls of those systems when used to deploy network slices. Through this analysis, this research confirms the necessity of applying both OSS/BSS and MANO for the coordinated management of 5G core slices as adopted by 3GPP.

Introduction: Unmanned construction through direct visual operation is performed to ensure the safety of workers at construction sites. In direct visual operation, although the equipment is simple and easy to install, the work efficiency and accuracy are reduced because of the lack of view and perspective obtained from boarding a construction machine. For solving this problem, images sent from multiple cameras, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs) attached to the construction equipment and the images obtained from boarding a construction machine, as well as blind spots are confirmed by displaying them on the monitor at hand. However, the working efficiency is lowered by the restrictions on the utilization range of the camera monitor, switching operation of the camera, and gaze movement between the construction machine and the monitor. Methods: For solving the problem of low work efficiency and accuracy of the conventional system, this paper proposes a support system for a direct visual operation that does not require monitor installation and gaze movement and enables intuitive camera switching operation by using a transmissive Head Mounted Display (HMD) and a stereo camera robot. Results and Conclusion: The results of the experiment conducted using a remote-controlled backhoe show that unskilled operators can perform the same quality of work as skilled operators, and work efficiency and accuracy was improved by 44.2% and 37.8%, respectively compared to the conventional system. This confirms the usefulness of the proposed system, especially for unskilled operators.

Yangon is one of the most populated and socio-economically important cities in Myanmar. Unfortunately, it is located in a moderately active-seismic area, and significant damage and loss will be incurred if an earthquake occurs there in the future. The seismogenic Sagaing Fault passes 40 km to the E of Yangon, which has experienced several destructive earthquakes in the past. The urban area studied here, Kyauktada, Pazundaung, and Botahtaung townships, are located mostly on a soft alluvial plain, which is mainly composed of sand, silt, and clay, which are sediments prone to amplify seismic waves. The Yangon Bosai Operation Support System (BOSS), designed to establish a proper disaster management system based on the potential damage that a future earthquake might cause, is under development. BOSS has two components damage prediction and damage response – which are based on predicted damage and current response capability and practices in Myanmar. For damage prediction, major inputs include information on the underlying soils, building construction and associated fragility functions, based on different building types. Microtremor survey is a useful tool for reviewing underlying soil layer information, as this can significantly affect vulnerability assessments and the identification of potential damages. Microtremor surveys and analyses were therefore conducted at 88 sites throughout the studied urban areas to acquire key ground information for BOSS. Our analyses showed that the fundamental frequency of horizontal to vertical spectral ratio (H/V ratio) of microtremors generally ranged 0.6–2.4 Hz, while the peak amplitude was between 1.3 and 4.0. Soil thickness ranged 60–210 m, and the average shear wave velocity over the ground’s upper 30 m, Vs30, was in the range 180–560 ms-1. All outcomes from this research will become key input parameters for BOSS development in Yangon.

Hot Mixed Asphalt (HMA) is the preferred and dominant material for road construction in many countries. HMA is very sensitive to the construction process and, thus, it is important to closely monitor the construction processes. Several Pavement Operation Support Systems (POSSs) have emerged in recent years. These systems try to provide guidance to the operators of pavers and rollers. While effective, such systems cannot do justice in capturing the complex interdependencies between the project-specific context (e.g. ambient conditions, temperature of laid asphalt) and optimal operational strategies. Also, the existing real-time POSSs tend to perceive compaction and paving as separate operations. This research presents a comprehensive real-time POSS that uses machine-to-machine communication (M2M) and sensor network (GPS, temperature linescanner, thermologger) to adopt a holistic view of fleet and better assist the paver and roller operators in achieving a higher asphalt quality. In this system a novel method to obtain the temperature of the asphalt mat is developed that is based on a combination of measured surface and core temperatures of the laid asphalt layer. A prototype of the proposed POSS is developed and tested in a field experiment. The test results show that the proposed system can help provide operators with a deeper insight into their projects. By assisting the operators in developing better operational strategies and preventing over-, under-, and poor compaction, this system is found to contribute to enhancing process quality as well as the quality of the end-product.

Internet service provider (ISP) uses Broadband remote access server (BRAS) to connect its customers called subscribers. Due to the usage of the Internet had grown up rapidly, the ISP company have to pay more attention to manage BRAS device. In general, the ISP administrators set up several suspicious Syslog extraction patterns into the operation support system (OSS) to extract Syslogs. The administrators will check out the detail of the Syslog matched the suspicious Syslog extraction pattern to find out if any problem exists on devices while they are notified by OSS that there are some words in Syslog are matching the extraction pattern. However, it is difficult to define the proper extract pattern that the administrators do not see before. Especially, after configuration had been changed, e.g. after an upgraded new version of the software or after adjusted the topology of the network, etc, there are a few new words related anomaly in Syslogs and those words are not match the Syslog extraction pattern because the administrators do not see those before. Furthermore, we found that BRAS Syslog data have a special feature that the other log data would not have is that there is a lot of content-related digits. Note that, those contents carry unique information and can make the extraction algorithm misleading. According to that, how to leverage the automatically extract algorithm to deal with this problem is another issue we have to take care of. In this paper, we proposed the BRAS Syslog pattern generation methodology and conduct a preliminary experiment to evaluate the performance. The result shows that the method with the combination of tfidf and EM or tfidf and HCA can produce better performance compared with the other clustering algorithms.

Recently, the interest in marine leisure activities has been growing rapidly with the work-life balance trend. In response to this demand, the Korean government is supporting fostering and revitalizing the relevant industries and facilities. In particular, a marina has been making efforts to change itself into a resort with multiple amenities instead of a simple mooring facility. However, the facilities in a marina for the transport of marine leisure equipment mostly consist of cranes and boat-lifts using ropes, which can result in incidents such as damage and accidents during lifting or movement. This paper proposes the equipment and support system for the safe transportation of marine leisure ships. Aluminum transport equipment was designed by performing a structural analysis to achieve a lighter weight than the existing steel products. In addition, a safety support system with alarms for tilting or obstacles and a slope monitoring system was developed to enhance the safety during operation and transportation. The safety support system developed in this study was implemented and installed in the transport system, and verified through commissioning on land.

In recent years, demands on wireless network for services mobility, for ever more resources, and for a growing variety of services, have exploded. Consequently, network management as we have known it up to now, with its silos and rigid approach, cannot meet these expectations. If we add the Internet of Things, the network has to become dynamic, adaptable and flexible. In this context, the industry and forums have specified and standardized a new architecture based on Software Defined Network (SDN), Network Function Virtualization, and Orchestration. These new paradigms, and especially Orchestration, will have a great impact on the Legacy Network Management Systems and the Operations Support System (OSS). We present a state of the art review of the main architecture approaches in the SDN standardization forums and discuss the place of the Orchestration in these different architectures. Then we focus on the Orchestration at the application layer and show how, together with SDN and Network Function Virtualization, they influence the Operation and Business Support Systems of next-generation network management. Finally, we analyze the roles and functions of this Orchestrator with regard to upper management, as well as the several open challenges in this domain.

At present, the smart grid is in a period of rapid development, and the third industrial revolution represented by the energy Internet has put forward higher requirements for the distribution network. How to apply emerging information technologies such as the Internet of Things(IoT) to power distribution station clusters will become a new model for the new round of energy revolution. This paper first discusses the overall architecture of the operation support system for safety and economic of power distribution station cluster. An operation support system for safety and economic of power distribution station cluster is proposed, which consists of perception layer, network layer, platform layer, and application layer. The function of the perceptive extension layer and edge computing layer is conceived. The key technologies of local communication networks and wide area communication networks are summarized. The application of the platform layer and application layer in the distribution station cluster is analyzed. Aiming at the problem of edge Hub Net and cloud collaboration, this paper studies the cloud edge collaboration architecture and strategy of the operation support system from IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, which realize the close collaboration be-tween edge computing and cloud computing. Finally, the next step of the construction of Internet of Things technology is summarized and prospected.

This paper analyzes the operation characteristics and current situation of large-scale aircraft in Plateau and complex terrain airport, and puts forward the support requirements of large-scale aircraft in Plateau and complex terrain area through aircraft airworthiness, operation compliance, engine performance change characteristics, aircraft operation performance, flight procedures and special operation requirements, etc Through the methods of system analysis, system design and system evaluation, the operation support system of large aircraft in Plateau and complex terrain conditions is established, and the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis of the system are completed to realize the economy and safety of large aircraft operation.

The refined process mining framework contains a set of activities that use extracted information from event logs, discovered models and normative ones. Among these activities, we find those dealing with running events in a Structured Business Process (SBP) context, which are the Detect, the Predict and the Recommend activities. These three activities are nominated as an operational support system that aims at detecting deviations, predicting events and recommending actions. In this regard, operational support systems perform well on SBP while, it stills a challenging task for an Unstructured Business Process (UBP). This puts forward the difficulty of predicting events and recommending actions for UBP, because of its complex structure. In this context, simplification and structuring operations must be applied. Therefore, the intervention of other process mining activities is required for business process simplification and structuring. To this end, we present an operational support approach dealing with UBP, using the refined process mining framework activities.

Predicting cellular networks' behaviors for making network development strategies such as 3G/4G/5G technology layers, radio resource management and optimizing Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and Operating Expenditure (OPEX) is a very important task. This paper proposes using a Linear Neural Network which has an acceptable accuracy for predicting networks' behaviors in cellular systems based on real statistical information from Operations Support Systems (OSS). Training and testing data are taken from real 4G/LTE networks for verifying and analyzing the results. Once the prediction is done then corresponding configuration tunings are carried in the network to fit service requirements and leverage network's performance.

Current approaches to automate the design and configuration of transport services face several challenges. Firstly, there is a lack of open interfaces between the Operational Support Systems (OSS) and the network layer. The commercially available interfaces to Network Management Systems (NMSs) or directly to the devices are typically proprietary and with limited programmability. Secondly, for the case of IP/MPLS networks, the definition of how a service is built is particular to each operator.To solve this situation, this work presents an approach based on a hybrid SDN in which the definition of a VPN service is made with a modeling language and is not limited to a particular operator design nor a particular set of vendor devices. The IP/MPLS network topology and the VPN services are programmable via standard APIs with RESTCONF/YANG from an SDN Controller. This facilitates the operator on the one hand designing a new VPN service and its full automation. This work demonstrates, for the first time, that such automation is possible with proposed draft standards from IETF and validates its implementation, comparing the time consumed in the controller to process to different workflows from the same model.

Due to the high usage of VSAT System in 3T Regions and the lack of required supporting software, we propose the usage of specifically built OSS (Operation Support System) as a supporting software for VSAT Modem in 3T Regions. OSS will be built in the form of a web application that is easily accessible. Currently the problem that often occurs in the VSAT System is a network configuration problem caused by human error, this configuration error results in the VSAT system unable to connect to the internet. OSS willl be able to help reduce the occurrence of human errors when configuring Modem and will provide the required digital storage. OSS will also help simplify maintenance requests that will be requested by the users

More and more telecom operators around the world began to build and to deploy fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks. With the advent of 5G service scenarios, it brings new challenges and increases the complexity of management. To deliver good quality of experience of these 5G applications for customers, service assurance is important. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end service assurance solution for 5G crosshaul networks. The 5G crosshaul network architecture consists of fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul networks. Our solution deployed in 5G trial network in Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan. The solution focus on slicing service assurance and synchronization monitoring. Besides, our solution adjusts most of network management in the operation support system (OSS) to apply to 5G crosshaul network. Our goal is to provide stable 5G transport network and to assure quality of experience for customers.

The study background is based on the condition of a telecommunication company that has various products and services, so the company should adopt standardized process in order to keep organization activities still maintainable to operate. The purpose of this study is to propose on developing method of Business Process Management Standardization based on current process conditions problem The method of this study is referenced to eTOM (Enhanced Telecom Operational Map) Framework decomposition. The study result provides a simulation to detailing business function based on eTOM as foundation to establish Business Process Management that suitable with the condition of the company. In this case study, the standardized BPM of fulfilment and assurance in Operation Support System are developed to solve the two main problems, such as the longer time to market when configuring services and the redundancy functions between modules.

The Internet Para Todos program is working to provide sustainable mobile broadband to 100 M unconnected people in Latin America. In this paper we present our commercial deployment in thousands remote small communities and describe the unique experience of maintaining this infrastructure. We describe the challenges related to managing operations containing the cost in these extreme geographical conditions. We also analyze operational data to understand outage patterns and present typical operational issues in this unique remote community environment. Finally, we present an extension of the operations support system (OSS) leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning with the goal of optimizing network maintenance while reducing costs.

This paper describes a technique to reduce insignificant Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data generated by Network Elements (NE) like Radio Access Network (RAN) and Core Network (CN) or Element Management System (EMS) or Network Management System (NMS). The aim of this technique is to utilize network bandwidth (i.e. control plane traffic load) and storage space in EMS or Operation Support System (OSS) efficiently. Realizing this aim, helps operators of EMS/OSS identify network KPI deterioration in near real time. Using this technique also reduces loss of critical events in lieu of network bandwidth loaded with heavy KPI data. Control plane systems in 4G as well as 5G network can both use this general technique. The disclosed technique utilizes a parameter called as KPI delta, defined for each KPI to determine significance of a KPI data. Further, this technique proposes systems, on how to use KPI delta to reduce the KPI data. Then various methods to derive or calculate KPI delta are described, namely unsupervised learning (K- means clustering) method, statistical analysis (Douglas Peucker algorithm) method and a rudimentary method (keeping KPI delta as zero). Performance evaluation of these three methods shows that unsupervised learning (K-means clustering) gives better results compared to other two methods for KPI data files: size improvement by 0.81% and 3.81%; data point improvement by 3.02% and 14.62%.

The article proposes a method for classifying state of network elements of a telecommunications operator. The method is based on use of the principles of fuzzy clustering of objects, which allows you to distribute many of analyzed objects into groups that have closest characteristics. Proximity of an object to a specific group is determined using value of the degree of belonging. For each group of objects, a scenario is formed - a list of measures necessary to restore performance of a given group of objects or to carry out preventive work to prevent emergency situations. Assignment of an object to a specific group is carried out based on the maximum value of the degree of belonging. The implementation of the proposed provisions allows you to automate the decision-making process to maintain the network of the telecom operator in working condition and reduce the time costs of operator’s personnel.

This paper explores representational capabilities of S-BPM for task-based CPS design, in order to meet Cyber-Physical System particularities throughout development and operation. Essential functional properties of CPS are derived from conceptual and empirical studies. As tasks are the foundation for functional design of operational support systems, they need to be captured when developing CPS. In this contribution, we focus on representing tasks that form the basis of stakeholder communication. The analysis of notational S-BPM capabilities reveals the need for contextual introduction and application of interaction and behavior diagrams, when S-BPM models should add value to CPS development activities.

With the ever-increasing demand for mobile bandwidth, the quantity of deployed cells also increases exponentially, creating heterogeneous networks of cells of varying sizes in order to accommodate the spatial domains that they occupy. This creates issues in Handover performance, where it becomes difficult to manage when and to which base station should a mobile user swap to during a connection without significant losses in performance, due to the large quantity of cells in one space. On the other hand, systems like Automatic Neighbour Relations, present in 4G Long Term Evolution configurations, mostly consider Handover statistics to decide the best neighbours, which is insufficient due to potential problems with signal coverage and load balancing which it cannot answer to. In this paper, an implementation of a cloud-based automated pixel-based neighbour identification system for cellular networks using Amazon Web Services is presented, wherein it generates high quality ranked Neighbour Cell Lists by utilizing cell topology and associated signal strengths in a map defined by a Pixel grid, which itself is built from data provided by the network’s Operations Support System. It’s completely technology agnostic and it’s incorporated as a package in the Metric Software as a Service ecosystem, facilitating network planning assessment by measuring the cells’ coverage overlap, and initializing neighbour lists. The proposed method can be used as a starting point for ANR, since it’s capable of building a neighbour cell list in some seconds for a new network deployment, which can be then optimised by ANR mechanisms later with an operating network.

In the communication network, since the interconnection of a large number of components, mobile network operators run Operations Support Systems that generate vast amounts of alarm events. The harsh challenge for network operators is how to find the potential root causes from massive alarms in real time. In this paper, we propose a novel solution for the root causes analysis. The solution includes a silent gap based approach to resolve the asynchrony of alarms, an algorithm for constructing Bayesian network (BN) based on sequentiality between alarms, and Bayesian inference to identify the root causes. The silent gap-based approach reduces preprocessing time while taking into account the validity. Also, the proposed BN-based mechanism allows the identification of the root causes with a higher accuracy. Experiments conducted on a real alarm dataset are provided to support the proposed methods. In addition, we propose a new algorithm processing framework.

The era of petabyte data has arrived as the digital big data universe continues its expansion toward exascale with massive volumes of data generated by diverse distributed sources. The size of big data makes it very difficult to gain insight into the meaning of data. In industrial applications, in order to explore both the meaning of data and the complex relationship between data components, big data needs to be processed and reduced enabling further deeper analysis in a timely manner. In this article an integrated data analytics framework is presented designed to extract the set of instances exhibiting statistical dependency from the massive volume of data in a pre-defined quasi real-time manner. The parallel computing model of MapReduce is enhanced to realize Magnet. The solution presented in this article is applicable to the telecommunications market where it optimizes next-generation network management systems for heterogeneous radio access technologies.

The positioning service of Quasi-Zenith Navigation Satellite System (QZSS“Michibiki”) has launched on November, 2018 in Japan involved by Cabinet Office, Government of Japan [1] . This study focused on a development of support system for snowplow operation which is combined with the real time positioning information acquired from GNSS including QZSS and the three dimensional road facility information acquired from mobile mapping system (MMS) equipped with digital photograph and laser devices. The system has been consisted of four components which are moving window displaying, recognition of road facility, guidance and alarm at real time processing for the snowplow operation corresponding to a vehicle speed. In addition, this study attempted a validation for the performance of the system in the test site of an expressway in the northern part of Japan. The precision of mapping of road facilities by means of MMS was less than 0.027 m in horizontal direction and less than 0.045 m in vertical direction, then point cloud data set was reconstructed into vector typed data set with attribute data for three dimensional landscape features including highway road facilities [7] . The vector type data was real-timely processed with QZSS down linked signals on a vehicle using a receiving device, AQLOC-VCX equipped with INS [6] . The validation on the official precision which are less than 12 cm of horizontal direction and less than 24 cm of vertical direction was performed by means of centimeter level augmentation service (CLAS) of QZSS which provide the corrected positioning information based on the existing continuously operating reference stations of GNSS provided from GSI in Japan [3] .

Information technology development leads to the data explosion in many industries. In the era of big data, telecom operator stores huge amount of data, namely telecom big data. Telecom operator can employ data mining and analysis to seek the valuable information from telecom big data. In this paper, we design a novel big data assisted analysis architecture for telecom operator. The proposed architecture collects operation support system data and business support system data of telecom operator. Based on these data, the architecture draws the portrait of each user. Then, the user trajectory is analyzed. Furthermore, the proposed architecture takes the service behavior analysis. Finally, we apply the proposed big data assisted analysis architecture to the local telecom operator.

This paper proposes a operation support system to compensate the system with time delay by predicting the future state of the plant. The proposed method includes a state predictor to predict future values of the system. In the remote plant are explicitly considered and compensated by placing a feedback controller on the remote side. The performance of this method is evaluated by simulations and experiments.

The existing management systems for telecommunications (Operations Support System/Business Support System, OSSs/BSSs) implement high-tech services by integrating services from different providers, allocating resources, managing services and their quality indexes as well as by predicting and maintaining the demand for services. Due to the constraints connected with formation of new infocommunication services, their flexibility and convenient modification, OSSs/BSSs do not fully match the modern requirements to the management systems of Future Networks (FNs), The management system design methods suggested below involve the process approach based on the Open Digital Architecture (ODA) of TM Forum Frameworx. This paper considers a process model of operational management systems for infocommunication networks and formal statements of associated modeling problems. The basic design principles of such systems are formalized for their analysis as well as an analytical load optimization model is suggested. The rigorous framework of semi-Markovian processes, Laplace transforms and generating functions is used for estimating some processing characteristics of a random flow of service requests.

The existing management systems for networks and communication services do not fully meet the demands of users in next-generation infocommunication services that are dictated by the business processes of companies. Open digital architecture (ODA) is able to dramatically simplify and automate main business processes using the logic of distributed computing and management, which allows implementing services on a set of network nodes. The performance of a distributed operational management system depends on the quality of solving several tasks as follows: the distribution of program components among processor modules, the prioritization of business processes with parallel execution, the elimination of dead states and interlocks during execution, and the reduction of system cost to integrate separate components of business processes. The program components can be distributed among processor modules by an iterative algorithm that calculates the frequency of resource conflicts, this algorithm yields a rational distribution in a finite number of iterations. The interlocks of parallel business processes can be eliminated using the classic file sharing example with two processes and also the methodology of colored Petri nets. The system cost of integration processes in a distributed management system is reduced through partitioning the network into segments with several controllers that interact with each other and manage the network in a coordinated way. This paper develops a model of a distributed operational management system for next-generation infocommunication networks that assesses the efficiency of operational activities for a communication company.

OSS is a collection of software and hardware which forms integrated applications. It is a group of applications that provides network planning, network management and monitoring of faults. It also supports the communication services by improving the operational activities like automating operational tasks, implement them faster and finding out the results. OSS is generally used by service designers, network planners, engineering teams, operation architect. Together with Business Support Systems (BSS) it provides various end-to-end communication services, customer facing activities, ordering, billing and support.

В статье рассматриваются проблемы российского рынка телекоммуникаций, в частности, обосновывается необходимость стандартизации модели eТОМ (EnhancedTelecomOperationsMap) и требований к информационным системам OSS/BSS. На отечественном рынке существует необходимость регламентации модели еТОМ отечественными нормативными документами, которая позволила бы выполнять целостные и высококачественные операции при осуществлении сквозных процессов, обеспечить базис для понимания и управления портфелями IT-приложений с точки зрения требования к бизнес-процессам. Авторы приходят к выводу, что регламентация модели еТОМ в соответствии с требованиями российского рынка телекоммуникаций могла бы разрешить проблемы использования OSS/BSS при принятии управленческих решений при реализации бизнес-процессов., The article reviews the issues of the Russian telecommunications market, substantiates the need for standardization of the eTOM (EnhancedTelecomOperationsMap) model for OSS / BSS information systems. There is a necessity to regulate the eTOM model by domestic regulatory documents in the domestic market. It will allow creating holistic and high-quality operations of end-to-end processes, providing a basis for understanding and managing IT application portfolios in terms of requirements for business processes. The authors conclude that the regulation of the eTOM model could solve the problems of the OSS / BSS solutions of the Russian market., №4 (2018)

Based on the requirements for improving life safety of electric power operators, the intelligent wearable operation support system based on multi-source information fusion technology which consists of device management module, near electric alarm module, collaborative operation module and decision analysis module is proposed. The system implements effective management of wearable devices and multi-source information fusion. The safety of electric power workers has been improved by the near electric alarm strategy. Communications service providers are being faced with a deep transformation that is taking them from being providers of traditional communication services (e.g., voice, SMS) into providers of digital services (e.g., music, mobile TV, cloud services, Internet of Things) This digital transformation – the use of technology such as analytics, mobility, social media, and smart embedded devices to improve the performance or reach of an enterprise (Westerman et al., 2011) – also requires communications service providers to digitize the way they serve their customers throughout the entire customer lifecycle. Thus, the transformation is disruptive; it affects not only customer relationships, but internal processes and value propositions as well (Westerman et al., 2011).

The number of plant accidents caused by misrecognition or misoperation is increasing in Japan. We have developed an operation assist system, Mirror Plant, to prevent such accidents. Mirror Plant is an online simulator based on a first principles model, which can provide wide-ranging support in situation recognition or decision making to plant operators through prediction and visualization. This paper focuses on new prediction functions incorporated into this system, i.e., steady state prediction and transient state prediction. As these prediction functions are based on real-time process data, they can take into account the continual changes in plant conditions. Using these prediction functions to investigate the consequences of future changes in operation enables safe plant operation, even if operation conditions are close to being off specification or in the explosive territory.

It has been analyzed that the rapid detection of faults, the effective search for causes and the determination of priorities in their elimination are critical for the effective achievement of this goal. It has been revealed that in companies and organizations that use disparate monitoring tools, there is no unified view of the network, and as a consequence of the impact of an event on the quality of service provision. Operational diagnostics and the detection of emergencies are quite complex tasks that can be solved only by a set of organizational and technical activities. The introduction of the operational support system allows, first of all, to shorten the time to identify possible problems that can lead to malfunctions in the operation of equipment and information systems.
