1. Optimal instance subset selection from big data using genetic algorithm and open source framework

Abstract

Abstract Data is accumulating at an incredible rate, and the era of big data has arrived. Big data brings great challenges to traditional machine learning algorithms, it is difficult for learning tasks in big data scenario to be completed on stand-alone. Data reduction is an effective way to solve this problem. Data reduction includes attribute reduction and instance reduction. In this study, we focus on instance reduction also called instance selection, and view the instance selection as an optimal instance subset selection problem. Inspired by the ideas of cross validation and divide and conquer, we defined a novel criterion called combined information entropy with respect to a set of classifiers to measure the importance of an instance subset, the criterion uses multiple independent classifiers trained on different subsets to measure the optimality of an instance subset. Based on the criterion, we proposed an approach which uses genetic algorithm and open source framework to select optimal instance subset from big data. The proposed algorithm is implemented on two open source big data platforms Hadoop and Spark, the conducted experiments on four artificial data sets demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed algorithm and visualize the distribution of selected instances, and the conducted experiments on four real data sets compared with three closely related methods on test accuracy and compression ratio demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, the two implementations on Hadoop and Spark are also experimentally compared. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides excellent performance and outperforms the three methods.

Resumen Hoy en día, las ciudades están experimentando radicales cambios operacionales. Estos nuevos modelos conocidos como Smart Cities tienen como objetivo mejorar la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos mediante el uso de datos recopilados sobre el entorno a través del uso de Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC). Además, el Internet of Things (IoT) es una de las grandes tecnologías que respalda a las Smart Cities para lograr estos objetivos. A su vez, una de las líneas de investigación que está adquiriendo gran relevancia está relacionada con las tendencias de aplicación de software y hardware abiertos. Una de estas ramas son las bien conocidas Plataformas de Código Abierto (OSP), que permite el desarrollo de proyectos de desarrollo propio (DIY). Gracias a ello, actualmente es posible llevar a cabo proyectos y soluciones que hasta ahora difícilmente eran posibles hacer realidad. El presente trabajo muestra una de las líneas de investigación que se está llevando a cabo desde el grupo en el ámbito de la monitorización y automatización de los edificios a través de la combinación de las OSP y el IoT. Además de mostrar las posibilidades de desarrollo existentes se presentará un caso práctico de esta tecnología que se llevó a cabo durante el proceso de monitorización energética en el edificio San Roke 32 de Donostia-San Sebastián rehabilitado bajo los criterios Passivhaus. Abstract Today, cities are experiencing radical operational changes. These new models known as Smart Cities aim to improve the quality of citizens life using data collected about the environment through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). In addition, the Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the great technologies that supports Smart Cities to achieve these objectives. At the same time, one of the research lines that is becoming very relevant is related to open software and hardware application trends. One of these branches are the well-known Open Source Platforms (OSP), which allows the development of self-developed projects (DIY). Thanks to this, it is now possible to carry out projects and solutions that until now were hardly possible to achieve. The present work shows one of the lines of research that is being carried out from the group in the field of monitoring and automation of buildings through the combination of the OSP and the IoT. In addition to showing the existing development possibilities, a practical case of this technology will be presented, which was carried out during the energy monitoring process in the San Roke 32 building in Donostia-San Sebastián, rehabilitated under the Passivhaus criteria.

Abstract

The continuous reorganization of the territory, whether due to the appearance of new buildings or to the alteration and reformulation of the existing space, requires updated cartographic information. This update is intended to represent the present situation, and the various updates allow us to obtain a territorial history of recognized importance. In geotechnical cartography, the urban reorganization that includes excavations, foundations, trenching, wells and boreholes, etc., allows the collection of information that constitutes a large collection of data. This territorial reorganization is more urgent in urban areas, however, in rural and natural areas of great geological emphasis, the existence of rocky outcrops and the possibility of identifying and analyzing these rocky outcrops is also of great importance for geotechnical cartography. The present study analyzes the use of spatial data infrastructures from the free Street View - Google Maps platform, which, duly incorporated in open-source free software (QGIS), allows the elaboration of geotechnical cartography in urban and rural areas. The case studies presented here refer to the urban area of the city of Guarda and to the rural zone defined as Estrela Geopark (Estrela Mountain), in which granite areas are identified through modules with connection to Google Street View and where the degree of granite alteration is analyzed. The validation of the degree of alteration of the granite is later verified through in-situ observations to validate the assigned classification. Through this methodology and in an expeditious way, it is possible to create geotechnical cartography and the respective database with relevant and complementary information to the existing geological cartography. Abstract

One of the primary goals of the artificial intelligence field is to produce fully autonomous agents that interact with theirenvironments to learn optimal behaviors, improving over time through trial and error. A mathematical principled framework for experience-driven autonomous learning is reinforcement learning, but they are inherently limited to low-dimensional problems,but the deep learning boom has provided new tools to overcome these problems. For deep reinforcement learning teaching, we do not have an appropriate platform for making optimal labs. In the article, after studying the theoretical foundations and the requirements of the main platforms, we selected two open source platforms, according to their characteristics: robotic simulators platforms for teaching and benchmarking deep reinforcement learning algorithms. Temperature and humidity measurements provide useful information on multiple areas of civil engineering application such as Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), Structural System Identification (SSI) and structures rehabilitation. Majority of the existing commercial systems are so costly and also these measurement paradigms need many reference spots for a full-scale structure. The aforesaid paradigms are based on collecting data through smart devices, transferring information to each other and in the final stage processing the obtained information collaboratively through cloud computing or the others technologies. Taking into account the above information and obstacles, utilizing the Open Source Platforms (OSP) microcontrollers like Arduino as well as low cost sensors are attracting more and more attention. Abstract

Face to the continual increase of information systems implementation and maintenance costs, companies externalize more and more their Information Technology services as cloud providers, the main interest of this strategy for companies is that they pay only for services actually consumed. Cloud computing is becoming a well-known buzzword nowadays and the most attractive field in information and communication systems. After virtualization, cloud seems to be the revelation that will allow companies to be more efficient and to manage the information systems cost more confidently. Following this stunning entry, we present in this paper a survey of cloud computing, highlighting its key concepts and architectural principles and services, these services are divided into three category Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a- Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). IAAS it can be defined as delivered computer infrastructure, typically a platform virtualization environment as a service. Rather than purchasing servers, software, datacenter space or network equipment, clients instead buy those resources as a fully outsourced service, Security is a big concern within IaaS, PAAS providers offer access to APIs (Application Programming Interface), programming languages and development middleware which allows subscribers to develop custom applications without installing or configuring the development environment, SAAS gives to users access to software or services which reside in the cloud and not on the user's device. Furthermore, we discuss and compare a variety of features on three open-source cloud solutions, including Eucalyptus, open Nubela, OpenStack. Dichos paradigmas se basan en la recogida de datos a través de dispositivos inteligentes, la transferencia de información entre ellos y, en la etapa final, el procesamiento de la información obtenida de forma colaborativa a través de la computación en la nube u otras tecnologías. Teniendo en cuenta la información y los obstáculos anteriores, la utilización de microcontroladores de plataformas de código abierto (OSP) como Arduino, así como de sensores de bajo coste, está atrayendo cada vez más atención. Aquest article ofereix una revisió sintètica de l'estat actual dels serveis de resolució en línia de disputes (ODR) en el panorama internacional per, a continuació, presentar alguns dels nous serveis que poden inspirar la configuració d'una nova generació de serveis d'ODR, que hem denominat ODR 3.0. Encara que les plataformes 3.0 aquí presentades no tinguin com a objectiu directe la gestió i la resolució de conflictes mitjançant tècniques com la mediació, la conciliació o l'arbitratge (sí, en certs casos, la negociació), l'impacte que estan demostrant en àmbits afins (per exemple, en la gestió d'emergències i crisis) no pot passar desapercebut en una reflexió sobre el futur del mateix ODR.

Multi-gigabit-per-second links are becoming widespread, and network devices are under continuous stress, so testing whether they guarantee the specified throughput or delay is a must. Software-based solutions, such as packet-train traffic injection, were adequate for lower speeds, but they have become inaccurate in the current scenario. Hardware-based solutions have proved to be very accurate, but usually at the expense of much higher development and acquisition costs. Fortunately, new affordable FPGA SoC devices, as well as high-level synthesis tools, can very efficiently reduce these costs. In this article we show the advantages of hardware-based solutions in terms of accuracy, comparing the results obtained in an FPGA SoC development platform and in NetFPGA-10G to those of software. Results show that a hardware-based solution is significantly better, especially at 10 Gb/s. By leveraging high-level synthesis and open source platforms, prototypes were quickly developed. Abstract

Hoy en día, las ciudades están experimentando radicales cambios operacionales. Estos nuevos modelos conocidos como Smart Cities tienen como objetivo mejorar la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos mediante el uso de datos recopilados sobre el entorno a través del uso de Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC). Esta nueva situación permite a los ciudadanos interactuar más eficientemente con los nuevos elementos inteligentes que componen las ciudades, como las infraestructuras, las construcciones y los edificios. Además, el Internet of Things (IoT) es una de las grandes tecnologías que respalda a las Smart Cities para lograr estos objetivos. El IoT ha sido llamado como la próxima Revolución Industrial o la próxima evolución de Internet. Impactará la forma en que las empresas, los gobiernos y los consumidores interactúan con el mundo físico a través de sensores, cámaras, dispositivos de mano, teléfonos inteligentes y otros dispositivos inteligentes. A su vez, una de las líneas de investigación que está adquiriendo gran relevancia está relacionada con las tendencias de aplicación de software y hardware abiertos. Una de estas ramas son las bien conocidas Open Source Platforms (OSP), Plataformas de Código Abierto, que permite el desarrollo de proyectos de desarrollo propio (DIY). Gracias a ello, actualmente es posible llevar a cabo proyectos y soluciones que hasta ahora difícilmente eran posibles hacer realidad. El presente trabajo muestra una de las líneas de investigación que se está llevando a cabo desde el grupo en el ámbito de la monitorización y automatización de los edificios a través de la combinación de las OSP y el IoT. 21. BoostVHT : Boosting distributed streaming decision trees

Abstract

Online boosting improves the accuracy of classifiers for unbounded streams of data by chaining them into an ensemble. Due to its sequential nature, boosting has proven hard to parallelize, even more so in the online setting. This paper introduces BoostVHT, a technique to parallelize online boosting algorithms. Our proposal leverages a recently-developed model-parallel learning algorithm for streaming decision trees as a base learner. This design allows to neatly separate the model boosting from its training. As a result, BoostVHT provides a flexible learning framework which can employ any existing online boosting algorithm, while at the same time it can leverage the computing power of modern parallel and distributed cluster environments. We implement our technique on Apache SAMOA, an open-source platform for mining big data streams that can be run on several distributed execution engines, and demonstrate order of magnitude speedups compared to the state-of-the-art., QC 20180503

Abstract

This paper presents a test case for coupling two physical aspects of an LED, optical and thermal, using specific simulation models coupled through an open source platform for distributed multi-physics modelling. The glue code for coupling is written with Python programming language including routines to interface specific simulation models. This approach can also be used for any other software. The main optical simulations are performed with an open source ray tracer software and the main thermal simulations are performed with Comsol Multiphysics. We show how to connect a Mie theory based scattering calculator with the ray tracer. Simulation results are compared to measured samples. The total radiant power emitted by the modelled LED is shown to be up to 3% consistent with the measurements.

24. Distributed Adaptive Model Rules for mining big data streams

Abstract

Decision rules are among the most expressive data mining models. We propose the first distributed streaming algorithm to learn decision rules for regression tasks. The algorithm is available in samoa (Scalable Advanced Massive Online Analysis), an open-source platform for mining big data streams. It uses a hybrid of vertical and horizontal parallelism to distribute Adaptive Model Rules (AMRules) on a cluster. The decision rules built by AMRules are comprehensible models, where the antecedent of a rule is a conjunction of conditions on the attribute values, and the consequent is a linear combination of the attributes. Our evaluation shows that this implementation is scalable in relation to CPU and memory consumption. On a small commodity Samza cluster of 9 nodes, it can handle a rate of more than 30000 instances per second, and achieve a speedup of up to 4.7x over the sequential version., QC 20150608

Aquest article ofereix una revisió sintètica de l'estat actual dels serveis de resolució en línia de disputes (ODR) en el panorama internacional per, a continuació, presentar alguns dels nous serveis que poden inspirar la configuració d'una nova generació de serveis d'ODR, que hem denominat ODR 3.0. Encara que les plataformes 3.0 aquí presentades no tinguin com a objectiu directe la gestió i la resolució de conflictes mitjançant tècniques com la mediació, la conciliació o l'arbitratge (sí, en certs casos, la negociació), l'impacte que estan demostrant en àmbits afins (per exemple, en la gestió d'emergències i crisis) no pot passar desapercebut en una reflexió sobre el futur del mateix ODR. In this article, we review the current state of online dispute resolution (ODR) services worldwide, followed by the presentation of some of the newer services that may inspire the configuration of a new generation of ODR services, what we call "ODR 3.0". The main objective of these 3.0 platforms is not to manage and resolve conflicts through mediation, conciliation or arbitration, although negotiation is involved in some cases. However, the impact they are having in related fields, such as emergency or crisis management, should be mentioned in a reflection on the future of ODR. Este artículo ofrece una revisión sintética del estado actual de los servicios de resolución en línea de disputas (ODR) en el panorama internacional para, a continuación, presentar algunos de los nuevos servicios que pueden inspirar la configuración de una nueva generación de servicios de ODR, a la que hemos denominado ODR 3.0. Aunque las plataformas 3.0 aquí presentadas no tengan como objetivo directo la gestión y resolución de conflictos mediante técnicas como la mediación, la conciliación o el arbitraje (sí, en ciertos casos, la negociación), el impacto que están demostrando en ámbitos afines (por ejemplo, en la gestión de emergencias y crisis) no puede pasar desapercibido en una reflexión sobre el futuro del propio ODR.
