"Das von der AG Film und Video organisierte Panel setzt sich inspiriert vom Tagungsmotto "Open Humanities, Open Culture"" mit Fragen der Offenheit in der Filmwissenschaft auseinander. In den letzten Jahren wurden verschiedene Aspekte der Open Humanities im Kontext der Filmwissenschaft umrissen, allerdings nur in Einzelbetrachtungen, Das Panel möchte diese Einzelbeobachtungen zusammenführen und gemeinsam mit weiteren Fragestellungen diskutieren. Dabei erweist sich die Frage nach Offenheit für die Filmwissenschaft als besonders virulent; dies betrifft sowohl die Wiederverwertbarkeit von Software als auch die Schwierigkeit, Forschungsdaten wirklich zugänglich zu machen – dem stehen Urheberrecht, Speicherplatzbedarf und fehlende Standards gegenüber. Das Panel nimmt verschiedene Herausforderungen in den Blick: technische Infrastruktur und Standardisierungsbestrebungen, Lehre, Forschungsdatenmanagement und Citizen Humanities. Wir sind überzeugt davon, dass die Filmwissenschaft durch das Angehen ihrer spezifischen Probleme wesentliche Impulse auch für andere Geisteswissenschaften setzen und die Open Humanities entsprechend weiterentwickeln kann." Bei der digitalen Bereitstellung von Quellen über Digitalisierungs-, Erschließungs- und Editionsprojekte klafft häufig eine Lücke zwischen Anspruch an die inhaltliche, technische und nachhaltige Umsetzung und die tatsächlich zur Verfügung stehenden finanziellen und personellen Mittel und Möglichkeiten. Wie gelingt es solchen Projekten, das selbstgesteckte Ziel des "Öffnens von Quellen" zu erreichen? Das Panel diskutiert anhand von internationalen Fallbeispielen aus der Max Weber Stiftung die Realität einer modularen Bereitstellungs- und Editionspraxis. Diese erfolgt wohl wissend um Standards, Richtlinien und Best practices und auch keineswegs komplett an diesen vorbei, aber dennoch mit notwendigen Beschränkungen und unter Entwicklung eigener Strategien und Schritt für Schritt auf dem Weg zu einer "Volledition". Angestrebt ist ein gemeinsames Nachdenken über diese sehr weit verbreitete Realität, die kleinere Institutionen genauso betrifft wie Einzelforschende, über Herausforderungen, Sackgassen und mögliche (gemeinsame) Lösungswege. Slides presented at the DARIAH-CZ national workshop on the 21st of October (https://lindat.cz/events/workshop2021) Having a vision and a strong commitment to open research has always been important to DARIAH as it brings on collaborative and innovative means of digitally enabled research. As Open Science practices are becoming a central condition of research funding, it is even more important to establish a dedicated discourse and community practices around the open research culture as it makes sense in the arts and humanities disciplines. The presentation aims to outline discipline-specific, yet widely interoperable models of Open Science emerging from community practices of arts and humanities. It will be shown how DARIAH-EU builds an open agenda for arts and humanities research that is firmly grounded in disciplinary realities. This includes: 1)Strengthening discourse and community practices around Open Humanities 2) Providing training and advocacy to implement open research practices 3) Building infrastructural components that enable open research practices across arts and humanities disciplines. 4) Providing a strong voice for arts and humanities research communities to be heard in European and national research policy debates, with special focus on career assessment

The humanities and social sciences (HSS) have recently witnessed an exponential growth in data-driven research. In response, attention has been afforded to datasets and accompanying data papers as outputs of the research and dissemination ecosystem. In 2015, two data journals dedicated to HSS disciplines appeared in this landscape: Journal of Open Humanities Data (JOHD) and Research Data Journal for the Humanities and Social Sciences (RDJ). In this paper, we analyse the state of the art in the landscape of data journals in HSS using JOHD and RDJ as exemplars by measuring performance and the deep impact of data-driven projects, including metrics (citation count; Altmetrics, views, downloads, tweets) of data papers in relation to associated research papers and the reuse of associated datasets. Our findings indicate: that data papers are published following the deposit of datasets in a repository and usually following research articles; that data papers have a positive impact on both the metrics of research papers associated with them and on data reuse; and that Twitter hashtags targeted at specific research campaigns can lead to increases in data papers’ views and downloads. HSS data papers improve the visibility of datasets they describe, support accompanying research articles, and add to transparency and the open research agenda.

Slides presented at the Sharing Digitally: Seminar on Digital Tools and Infrastructures seminar organized by the University of Lviv, Center for Urban History on the 29.09.2021. The presentation aims to outline discipline-specific, yet widely interoperable models of Open Science emerging from community practices of arts and humanities. It will be shown how DARIAH, a pan-European infrastructure for Arts and Humanities builds an open agenda for Arts and Humanities research that is firmly grounded in disciplinary realities. This includes: a suite of Open Science services within DARIAH (Open Science helpdesk, the OpenMethods and the DARIAH Open platforms); training and advocacy activities and also building and strengthening communities of practice, such as the DARIAH Research data management Working Group to critically assess and shape current options for opening up research workflows and to ease compliance with national, European and global research policy mandates such as Open Access or FAIR data.

The digital transformation of research opened up radically new potentials in innovation and dissemination in all scientific areas. Open Science is becoming the new normal modus operandi in them, also as increasingly central conditions of research funding. Still, in many cases, the dominant impact of STEM disciplines on the Open Science paradigm makes it uneasy for Arts and Humanities scholars to translate these values to their everyday research realities. Therefore, it is crucially important to establish a dedicated discourse and community practices around the open research culture as it makes sense in the Arts and Humanities disciplines. DARIAH is in a unique position to push forward to an open ecosystem that is organically growing out from real community practices and needs. The presentation aims to outline discipline-specific, yet widely interoperable models of Open Science emerging from community practices of arts and humanities. It will be shown how DARIAH, a pan-European infrastructure for arts and humanities builds an open agenda for arts and humanities research that is firmly grounded in disciplinary realities. This includes: Providing a strong voice for arts and humanities research communities to be heard in European and national research policy debates, with special focus on career assessment Supporting our communities in navigating themselves in this whole new world and providing Open Science advocacy to them in all career stages and levels of expertise. Making arts and humanities’ contributions to Open Scholarship more visible both inside and outside the arts and humanities research communities. Facilitating access to Cultural Heritage data Building infrastructural components that enable open research practices across arts and humanities disciplines.&nbsp

DARIAH’s Open Science activities explore and foster domain-specific pathways to the open research culture. This includes promoting innovation through new networks and collaborations; supporting uptake of new research and publication practices through reflection, creation and diffusion of high-quality new knowledge, skills and technologies as well as building infrastructural enablers of open research practices. The impact of these activities primarily manifest itself in changes in research culture; in changes in the EU research policy and it also enables the DARIAH member countries to collectively attract funding through European partnerships to address the gaps in the Open Science landscape together.

The concept of open science in relation to open humanities is discussed. The focus is on the enormous growth of data and how to use it for bridging disciplinary and domain boundaries. The European bibliographic database proposal is revisited and presented as a possibility of an all encompassing database which could reflect the true diversity and richness of European SSH research. A database of this kind could produce new synergy in research, open up avenues for collaboration between domains and make visible European research at the global level. ERIH PLUS is also mentioned as a possible starting point for such an endeavor. The challenge from the point of view of interdisciplinarity for SSH is viewed from the point of view of building up focused humanities RIs and databases. Such databases would be geared towards concrete research topics.
