The Corona Virus Disease - 19 (COVID-19) pandemic is one of the most devastating events in the history of human health for the last several decades. Our analysis aimed at a cross-section of events, models and theories surrounding the pandemic. These included mathematical modeling, lockdown diaries, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), religious approaches, and the 5G network theory among others. The Global economies have been checked negatively by the pandemic. The COVID - 19 – pandemic challenge, primed many innovations and adaptations for survival. Use of phones and ICT as well as proper handling of asymptomatic victims was necessary as it resolves the anxiety issue of the infection spread. Leadership from the President to the lowers levels was critical for the management of COVID -19 challenge in Uganda.

[ES] En este trabajo se evaluarán diferentes formatos de modulación para las redes de comunicaciones ópticas de próxima generación. Empleando un software comercial complejo de simulación se realizarán cálculos teóricos en distintos escenarios con objeto de optimizar los parámetros de transmisión y definir el mejor esquema de transmisión en cada caso. Se realizará la caracterización completa del funcionamiento de estos enlaces así como la estimación de sus límites para realizar propuestas novedosas de cara a la siguiente evolución de las redes de comunicaciones ópticas., [EN] Different advanced modulation formats will be evaluated for transmission in next generation optical communication networks. By using a complex commercial simulation platform, theoretical calculations will be carried out under different scenarios for the sake of optimising the transmission parameters as well as defining the best setup for each scenario. Full performance characterization and limitations of each transmission system will be identified towards innovative proposals for the definition of the next step towards the evolution of the optical communications networks.

Paper presented at the 5th Strathmore International Mathematics Conference (SIMC 2019), 12 - 16 August 2019, Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya In a Poisson process with constant rate (also known as homogeneous Poisson process) with exponential inter-arrival (waiting time to the next event) time, the longest/largest gap, L(t) which is the maximal inter-arrival time is considered in this paper. The aim was to establish the Laplace transform asymptotic and the large deviation principles related to the longest gap L(t) between epochs of arrival in a homogeneous Poisson process. The result of the investigation suggest two natural and different large deviation principles for the longest gap with two distinct rate functions and speeds. Busitema University, Uganda.

V diplomskem delu so podrobneje opisani procesi, ki vodijo do relaksacije gladke mišične celice in izvirajo iz endotelija. Osrednja tema naloge je opis in študij ključnega vazorelaksanta, ki se proizvaja v endoteliju, to je dušikov oksid (NO). V delu je opisan proces njegove sinteze in njegov vpliv na od kalcija odvisno relaksacijo gladke mišične celice. Najprej je opisan proces krčenja/relaksacije gladke mišične celice in celična signalizacijo ter pomen kalcija v celici. Podrobneje so opisane različne funkcije, na katere vpliva NO. Z matematičnim modelom je opisana sinteza NO iz L-arginina, ki ga katalizira encim endotelijska NO sintaza (eNOS). Pri tem je predstavljeno spreminjanje hitrosti nastajanja NO, nitrita in L-citrulina ter porabe kisika in nikotinamid adenin dinukleotid fosfat-oksidaze (NADPH). Prikazana je tudi odvisnost koncentracije NO od koncentracije O2 v celici. Teoretično je opisano delovanje encima endotelijske NO sintaze in različni vplivi na aktivacijo le-tega. Opisane so različne molekule, ki predstavljajo tarče za NO. Mehanizem aktivacije gvanilat ciklaze je opisan z matematičnim modelom. Predstavljeni so še drugi mehanizmi signalizacije v gladki mišični celici. Z matematično-fizikalnim modelom je opisana dinamika kalcija v gladki mišični in endotelijski celici, pri čemer se osredotočimo na znotrajcelično dinamiko koncentracije kalcija v citosolu tako izolirane gladke mišične celice kakor tudi sklopljenega para gladke mišične celice in endotelijske celice. In the thesis we describe processes that lead to smooth muscle cell relaxation and originate from endothelium. The main topic of the thesis is study and description of key vasorelaxant that is produced in endothelium, which is nitric oxide. We discuss the process of its synthesis and its effect on calcium dependent relaxation of smooth muscle cells. First, it describes the process of contraction / relaxation of smooth muscle cells and cell signaling, and the importance of calcium in the cell. Different functions that are affected by NO are described more specifically. We use a mathematical model to describe the synthesis of NO from L-arginine, which is catalyzed by the enzyme endothelial NO synthase (eNOS). Enzyme endothelial NO synthase and effects of various substances on its activation are described theoretically. We also present variety of molecules that represent targets for NO. The mechanism of activation of guanylate cyclase is described with a mathematical model. We also describe other signaling mechanisms in smooth muscle cells. We use the third mathematical model to describe the dynamics of calcium in the smooth muscle and endothelial cells, focusing on the dynamics of intracellular calcium concentration in the cytosol of isolated smooth muscle cell as well as coupled pair of smooth muscle cell and endothelial cell.

There are three viewpoints we can understand creativity from - process, person, and product. Until some time ago the choice of a viewpoint determined the definition of creativity, the research method used, and the interpretation of obtained results. The researchers of today tend to integrate all the three viewpoints. The viewpoints of process and person are the two in vitro approaches to creativity research. The former advocates the experimental and the latter advocates the correlational method. Despite the long tradition of the two approaches there are still new discoveries in these fields which contemporary psychology has to offer. The third approach - the viewpoint of a creative product - is an in vivo approach. It has the longest tradition and today it offers a new paradigm in the understanding of creativity by integrating and supplementing the former two viewpoints. This article is a review of contemporary discoveries about creativity using all three viewpoints. From the viewpoint of creativity as a process it describes cognitive processes in a creative individual and interpersonal processes in a social and cultural setting which is the topic of the social psychology of creativity. From the viewpoint of a creative person it lists his/her attributes from biological foundations to personal characteristics and self activity. The third viewpoint of creativity - the viewpoint of a creative product - uses analysis of real creative achievement and discoveries of the former two viewpoints to explain creativity as a stochastic process far more dependent on combinatorics, probability and luck than assumed before. Ustvarjalnost lahko razumemo s treh osnovnih vidikov - z vidika ustvarjalnega procesa, vidika ustvarjalne osebe in vidika ustvarjalnega produkta. Do nedavnega je izbrani vidik določal opredelitev ustvarjalnosti, raziskovalno metodo in razlago dobljenih rezultatov, danes pa raziskovalci težijo k integraciji vseh treh pristopov. Vidik procesa in vidik osebe sta dva in vitro pristopa k raziskovanju ustvarjalnosti. Prvi uporablja eksperimentalno, drugi pa bolj korelacijsko metodo. Kljub njuni sedaj že dolgi tradiciji nam sodobna psihološka literatura ponuja še vedno nova odkritja na teh področjih ustvarjalnosti. Tretji pristop - pristop z vidika ustvarjalnega produkta - pa je in vivo pristop. Ima najdaljšo tradicijo, danes pa z združevanjem in nadgradnjo predhodnih dveh vidikov ponuja novo paradigmo v razumevanju ustvarjalnosti. Pričujoči članek je pregled sodobnih odkritij o ustvarjalnost iz vseh treh vidikov. Z vidika ustvarjalnosti kot procesa opiše kognitivne procese, ki se odvijajo v ustvarjalnem posamezniku, ter ustvarjalni proces v ožjem in širšem socialnem okolju, temo sodobne socialne psihologije ustvarjalnosti. Z vidika ustvarjalne osebe navede lastnosti ustvarjalcev vse od biološke osnove, preko osebnostnih lastnosti do samoaktivnosti posameznika. Tretji vidik ustvarjalnosti - vidik ustvarjalnega produkta - pa na podlagi analize realnih ustvarjalnih stvaritev in ugotovitev prej omenjenih dveh pristopov predstavi ustvarjanje kot stohastični proces, veliko bolj odvisen od kombinatorike, verjetnosti in nenazadnje sreče, kot je bilo do sedaj predpostavljeno.
