Many cities in Türkiye have been affected by the devastating twin earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. Following the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, a field study was conducted to investigate the material characteristics of concrete used in collapsed buildings. The study’s major aim is to examine several parameters of reinforced concrete structures by comparing the samples taken from different locations in the region after the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes for post-earthquake material characterization. Investigating the effect of concrete damage in these earthquakes, which especially affected 11 provinces and an area wider than approximately 100 thousand square kilometers, is of greater importance. For this purpose, Schmidt hammer measurements were carried out on structural elements, and concrete samples were collected from the same structures. Compression tests were conducted on the collected 21 samples taken from the 25 residential buildings to determine the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, and Poisson’s ratio. Also, microstructural investigations were conducted on the concrete samples. The results showed that concrete samples had generally low strength and low deformation ability causing brittle failure of structures. When the compressive strengths of the concrete samples taken by the core drilling method were examined, it was determined that the results were between 4 MPa and 41 MPa, while the average compressive strength result was 16.7 MPa and the standard deviation was 8.6 MPa. Additionally, compressive strength results over 20 MPa were determined in 5 samples. The elasticity modules of the samples with compressive strength results above 15 MPa are higher than the value found in the equation given in TS500, while the others are lower. The elasticity modulus results were more compatible with the equation given in Eurocode. In addition, although there is no full agreement between the results obtained from Schmidt hammer measurements and the core drilling method results, the non-destructive method helps to find the weakest element on any floor. It can be concluded that there is a connection between the quality of concrete and the performance of buildings under severe earthquakes. Therefore, it is recommended to improve building codes, strengthen the inspection procedures, detail the quality control mechanisms, and sustain education/training programs to increase the resilience of the buildings in future earthquakes.

Biphenotypic sinonasal sarcoma (BSNS), previously known as low-grade sinonasal sarcoma, is a rare tumour of the sinonasal tract, first described in 2012. It involves both myogenic and neural differentiation and is characterized by PAX3 rearrangement. MAML3 is the most frequent fusion partner of PAX3; however, its partner remains unidentified in a subset of cases. These tumours have significant local recurrence rates but lack metastatic potential. Here, we report a case of BSNS with PAX3/FOXO1 fusion and discuss its clinicopathological features and differential diagnosis.

Heparin is a negatively charged polysaccharide with various chain lengths and a hydrophilic backbone. Due to its fascinating chemical and physical properties, nontoxicity, biocompatibility, and biodegradability, heparin has been extensively used in different fields of medicine, such as cardiovascular and hematology. This review highlights recent and future advancements in designing materials based on heparin for various biomedical applications. The physicochemical and mechanical properties, biocompatibility, toxicity, and biodegradability of heparin are discussed. In addition, the applications of heparin-based materials in various biomedical fields, such as drug/gene delivery, tissue engineering, cancer therapy, and biosensors, are reviewed. Finally, challenges, opportunities, and future perspectives in preparing heparin-based materials are summarized.

This study presents a comprehensive comparison of the performance indicators, namely latency, packet drop, and throughput, for commercial Wi-Fi and 5G LAN systems in both enterprise and warehouse environments. This pioneering assessment marks the first evaluation of actual commercial hardware products in such critical settings. The study focuses on both downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) data flows, employing Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP) within these networks. The results from these real-life deployments indicate that Wi-Fi networks, when subjected to increased UL/DL traffic, tend to experience stability issues. This is particularly evident in the form of significant packet drops and increased latency, adversely affecting traffic that is sensitive to delays. Mobility scenarios, which involve device transitions between multiple Wi-Fi Access Points, further intensify these challenges. In contrast, the 5G LAN systems showcased remarkable performance in both stationary and mobile conditions. They consistently maintained a low rate of packet drops. This robust performance can be attributed to the efficient use of TDD frame allocation and Medium Access Control (MAC) scheduling techniques. Notably, micro-slicing feature in the 5G LAN setups was instrumental in ensuring reduced latency across various testing scenarios, proving its efficacy in diverse operational contexts.

Abstract Clinician generated segmentation of tumor and healthy tissue regions of interest (ROIs) on medical images is crucial for radiotherapy. However, interobserver segmentation variability has long been considered a significant detriment to the implementation of high-quality and consistent radiotherapy dose delivery. This has prompted the increasing development of automated segmentation approaches. However, extant segmentation datasets typically only provide segmentations generated by a limited number of annotators with varying, and often unspecified, levels of expertise. In this data descriptor, numerous clinician annotators manually generated segmentations for ROIs on computed tomography images across a variety of cancer sites (breast, sarcoma, head and neck, gynecologic, gastrointestinal; one patient per cancer site) for the Contouring Collaborative for Consensus in Radiation Oncology challenge. In total, over 200 annotators (experts and non-experts) contributed using a standardized annotation platform (ProKnow). Subsequently, we converted Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine data into Neuroimaging Informatics Technology Initiative format with standardized nomenclature for ease of use. In addition, we generated consensus segmentations for experts and non-experts using the Simultaneous Truth and Performance Level Estimation method. These standardized, structured, and easily accessible data are a valuable resource for systematically studying variability in segmentation applications.

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C22H26BN, the B atom acts to reduce the delocalization of the nitrogen lone-pair electron density into the pyrrole ring, so that the two N—C bonds increase in length to 1.4005 (14) and 1.3981 (14) Å. The N—B bond length is 1.4425 (15) Å, which is longer than a typical N—B bond because the nitrogen lone pair is not fully available to participate in the bond.

Abstract Mucopolysaccharidoses comprise a set of genetic diseases marked by an enzymatic dysfunction in the degradation of glycosaminoglycans in lysosomes. There are eight clinically distinct types of mucopolysaccharidosis, some with various subtypes, based on which lysosomal enzyme is deficient and symptom severity. Patients with mucopolysaccharidosis can present with a variety of symptoms, including cognitive dysfunction, hepatosplenomegaly, skeletal abnormalities, and cardiopulmonary issues. Additionally, the onset and severity of symptoms can vary depending on the specific disorder, with symptoms typically arising during early childhood. While there is currently no cure for mucopolysaccharidosis, there are clinically approved therapies for the management of clinical symptoms, such as enzyme replacement therapy. Enzyme replacement therapy is typically administered intravenously, which allows for the systemic delivery of the deficient enzymes to peripheral organ sites. However, crossing the blood–brain barrier (BBB) to ameliorate the neurological symptoms of mucopolysaccharidosis continues to remain a challenge for these large macromolecules. In this review, we discuss the transport mechanisms for the delivery of lysosomal enzymes across the BBB. Additionally, we discuss the several therapeutic approaches, both preclinical and clinical, for the treatment of mucopolysaccharidoses.

Ayrica, erkek, evli ve otuzlu yaslarin uzerindeki kisilerin sirasiyla kadin, bekar ve genclere kiyasla hem objektif hem de subjektif kriterler bazinda daha yuksek sosyoekonomik statuye sahip oldugu ortaya koyulmustur. Sonucta objektif sosyal statu ile subjektif sosyal statu arasinda benzerlik oldugu, bununla birlikte subjektif sosyal statunun gecmis tecrube ve gelecek beklentilerini de dikkate alan yapisi nedeniyle, objektif sosyal statu ile birlikte kullanilmasi durumunda daha gercekci ve anlamli bilgiler ortaya koyabilecegi gorulmektedir.

The leather industry generates approximately ten million tons of solid bio-wastes that can be used to synthesize various multifunctional materials with exciting properties. One such approach involves developing advanced hybrid materials, which is considered one of the key areas but the underdeveloped materials science discipline. This work explored methods to use collagen derived from leather industry bio-wastes to form hybrid films via two different ways: to produce luminescent carbon dots (Cdots) and develop hybrid films. The polymeric collagen was mixed with Cdots and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to create flexible composite films that exhibit improved thermal, mechanical, electrical, and luminescent properties. The Cdot films displayed enhanced luminescence. The Kubelka-Munk transformation of the diffuse reflectance reveals a massive increase in absorbance in the visible light region with the addition of rGO. Besides, the developed films displayed electrical conductivity and weak ferromagnetic characteristics and showed enhanced biocompatibility. These findings highlight new avenues for converting industrial bio-wastes into useful multifunctional materials in scalable and inexpensive ways, thereby diminishing environmental pollution and enhancing environmental sustainability.

The synthesis, structure and some properties of the one-dimensional coordination polymer, [Pr2(pdc)3(Hpdc)]n·n(H3hp)·8n(H2O), (H2pdc = pyridine 2,6-dicarboxylic acid, C7H5NO4; 3hp = 3-hydroxypyridine, C5H5NO) are described. One of the Pr3+ ions is coordinated by two O,N,O-tridentate pdc2− ligands and one tridentate Hpdc− anion to generate a fairly regular PrO6N3 tri-capped trigonal prism, with the N atoms acting as the caps. The second Pr3+ ion is coordinated by one tridentate pdc2− dianion, four water molecules and two monodentate bridging pdc2− ligands to result in a PrO8N coordination polyhedron that approximates to a mono-capped square-anti-prism. The ligands bridge the metal-atom nodes into a chain, which extends in the [100] direction. The H3hp+ cation and uncoordinated water molecules occupy the inter-chain regions and an N–HLO and numerous O–HLO hydrogen bonds consolidate the structure. The H3hp+ species appears to intercalate between pendant pdc rings to consolidate the polymeric structure. Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı çeşitli ölçü maddeleriyle alınan mandibular alveolar kret ölçülerinin stabilitesinin üç boyutlu bir ölçüm yöntemiyle değerlendirilmesidir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmada 14 dişsiz hastadan alınan ölçüler kullanıldı. Hastalar iki gruba ayrıldı. Son ölçü maddesi olarak birinci grupta çinko-oksid öjenol (ZOE), ikinci grupta polivinilsiloksan(PVS) kullanılarak alınan ölçülerden ana modeller elde edildi. Ana modeller üzerinden modifiye şahsi kaşık hazırlanarak hastalardan ölçü alçısı ile yeniden ölçüler alındı. Elde edilen modeller üzerinde sınır çizgileri tahmini olarak çizildi ve alveol kret üzerinde 14 referans noktası belirlendi. Ana modellerin fotoğrafları alındı (Nikon E2/E2s) ve 3 boyutlu görüntüleri elde edildi. Alveolar kret yüksekliği, protezin oturduğu alanın büyüklüğü ve çevresel sınır çizgilerinin uzunluğu 3 boyutlu görüntüler üzerinde ölçüldü.Bulgular: Bu çalışmada ölçü alçısıyla elde edilen modellerdeki ölçüm değerlerinin diğerlerinden yüksek olduğu görüldü. Ölçü alçısıyla bundan düşük değerlerde ölçüm değerleri gösteren çinko-oksid öjenol ölçü modelleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunamadı (p>0.05). Buna karşılık polivinilsiloksan ile elde edilen modellerin ölçüm değerlerinde alveolar kret yüksekliği istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir azalma gösterdi (p< 0.05).Sonuç: Ölçü maddesinin alveolar muköz membran üzerindeki etkileri membranın özelliklerine ve şahsi kaşık dizaynına bağlı kalmaktadır. Bu yüzden desteksiz rezidüel kretlere sahip mandibulartam protez hastalarında ölçü maddesinin ve ölçü tekniğinin seçimi oldukça önemlidir. Mandibular tam protez ölçülerinin ölçü alçısı ve çinko-oksid öjenol ölçü maddesi ile alınması önerilmektedir.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate with 3 dimensional measurement system whether the stabil condition of mandibular alveolar ridge may recorded by the impression materials. Materials and Methods: The study was performed on the 14 edentulous patients. Patients were divided in two groups. Zinc-oxide eugenol (ZOE) impression material was used as a final impression material in group I and Polyvinylsiloxane (PVS) impression material was used in group II and the definitive cast was obtained. A final impression was made again from all patient with a impression plaster (IP) by means of the custom tray has a new design for each patient. This custom tray was prepared on the definitive cast. The peripheral border line was drawn roughly and the 14 references point were done on the alveolar ridge on the definitive casts. The photographs of the definitive casts were took by Nikon E2/E2s and the three dimensional images were carried out. Height of alveolar ridge, quantity of denture bearing area and length of peripheral border line was measured on the three dimensional images. Results: This study showed that all measurement values of the IP were higher than the others. The measurement values of the ZOE were lower than the IP, but not statistically significant (p>0.05). However, the measurement values of PVS showed that the decrease of height of the alveolar ridge was statistically significant (p< 0.05). Conclusion: The effect of impression materials on the alveolar mucous membrane is vary depending on their properties and the custom tray design. For that reason, it is too important that the choice of impression material and impression technique when the mandibuler complete denture impression is made from edentulous patient has unsupported residual alveolar ridge. It is suggest that an mandibular complete denture impression is made with IP and ZOE.
