While we know that social identities impact entrepreneurship, we know less about that relationship for individuals with marginalized identities. We specially do not have an in-depth inderstanidng of how changes in the environemnt regarding these marginalized identities impact entreprenuership. In this paper we aim to understand how entrepreneurs develop and employ sophisticated strategies to manage persistent and dynamic discrimination related to their social identities. We conducted a grounded theory study based on interviews, observations, and archival data. Our findings show that those entrepreneurs of color who narrate persistence and growth were constantly juggling their identities and had the ability to invisibilize, camouflage, and leverage their race in adaptive response to the socio-ecological context within which opportunities arise. We further show the characteristics of the entrepreneurs that enable them to be able to comfortably shift their identities as needed. We contribute to the literature by showing the importance of taking into consideration the environment and its changes in how discrimination happens for entrepreneurs, and the importance of multi-level studies to understand how entrepreneurs adapt their identities in their trajectories. In this paper, we explore how craft breweries balance authenticity and sales outcomes when coopeting. We investigate how market and craft focused coopetition in the craft brewing industry impact sales and authenticity outcomes. The industry has a strong collective identity and ethos that makes authenticity very important for businesses . We conducted a mixed-method study. We examine types of coopetitions using ten semi-structured interviews and 772 documents. We also constructed a quantitative dataset of 1,100 beers and 111 breweries to test our hypotheses. In our results, we discovered that market focused coopetition increases sales performance and authenticity. Additionally, we found that craft focused coopetition does not impact authenticity, but hybrid focused coopetition has positive impact on authenticity outcomes. Entrepreneurship-as-emancipation has been integral in illuminating the wide-ranging impacts of entrepreneurial activity. However, despite recent advancement in the literature concerning the emancipatory potential of entrepreneurship, the scholarship in the domain has not grown as expected. We posit that one reason for the limited advancement of scholarship in this domain is the lack of understanding of how emancipation differs across different kinds of ventures and types of entrepreneurs. Any potential variations in the emancipatory outcomes of entrepreneurial activity have either been ignored or, at best, passively acknowledged. This is surprising, given that the literature has also pointed out that different entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial ventures may experience/lead to different outcomes of entrepreneuring. In this paper, we build on the broader entrepreneurship literature to further unpack the notion of entrepreneurship-as-emancipation. Specifically, we theorize the emancipatory outcomes of entrepreneuring along a two-dimensional framework, with the type of entrepreneur (mainstream or marginalized) along the x-axis, and the type of the entrepreneurial venture (social or commercial) along the y-axis. We argue that different venture and entrepreneur combinations may result in different forms of emancipation. Therefore, we contribute to the literature on entrepreneurship-as-emancipation by presenting a clearer view of emancipatory outcomes. We also explain how three ecosystem elements, mostly absent from the mainstream entrepreneurship literature, might be essential in explaining the different emancipatory outcomes for different entrepreneur - venture combinations. We expect that our typology will facilitate the proliferation of research in the domain. In this paper I analyze how religion impacts social entrepreneurship. Drawing on a qualitative study using a field-analytic approach, I study the role of the Catholic Church in assisting in the creation of solidarity economy enterprises. My findings demonstrate that religion is important due to infrastructure and emotional reasons. I explain how I contribute to the literature on entrepreneurship and social enterprises. In this paper we aim to understand the relationship between religion, institutional logics, and social movements outcomes. Empirically, we look at the Solidarity Economy Movement (SEM) in Brazil where the Catholic Church had a prominent role in disseminating solidarity economy enterprises. Using a mixed-method approach, we analyze and test how conflicting logics of the Catholic Church influence the work of Caritas (a social movement organization). This panel symposium aims to bridge conversations on the cultural dynamics of innovation that are happening somewhat separately in entrepreneurship and strategy. To do so, this symposium will provide a forum for four accomplished scholars to reflect on the ways that work in cultural entrepreneurship and strategy can inform each other. First, we will have two presentations by Greg Fisher and Robert J. David who will each discuss how culture, institutions and sociocognition will continue to inform cutting-edge research on entrepreneurship. Second, Elena Dalpiaz and Candace Jones will discuss their work on innovation and strategy making in established settings, and sketch an agenda for future research on the cultural dynamics of strategy. The aim of this study is to further illuminate the intersection of the social movement and institutional theory literatures by employing a mixed methodology research design, integrating qualitative data with a quantitative dataset of over 19,000 social enterprises that have emerged from within Brazil's solidarity economy movement (SEM) in attempt to remedy the grand challenge of inequality. We investigate the potential of social movements to influence institutional change by providing cultural and biographical outcomes to social movement participants and their communities. Findings indicate that social movements produce four unique forms of cultural and biographical outcomes - economic, social, political, and community. Additional findings suggest that social movement outcomes are achieved through ten key strategies that represent two broad categories of mechanisms - socialization and resource provision. This research aims to extend the literature on community-based enterprises (CBEs) and entrepreneurship-as-emancipation. We suggest that external infrastructure affect the emancipation outcomes of CBEs. To do so, we analyze three external infrastructure factors (market infrastructure, resource endowments, and institutional arrangements). In this paper we ask, how gender-mix in entrepreneurial teams leads to women's emancipation, and under what circumstances. Drawing from the pragmatist feminist perspective, we hypothesize a positive relationship between favorable representation of women in mixed gender teams, and women's socio-cultural emancipation. We also delimit high enterprise income, and formal participatory mechanisms as two boundary conditions. Specifically, we hypothesize that high income (comparative to average regional enterprise income) and formal participatory mechanisms will enhance the formerly hypothesized main relationship. We deploy a unique sample comprising of over 5000 solidarity economy enterprises (SEEs) in the Brazilian solidarity economy movement to test our hypotheses. In this paper we examine how a hybrid organization struggles, and eventually fails, to balance institutional logics in order to avoid mission drift. We explore this in the context of ITCP-FGV (Technological Incubator of Popular Cooperatives) an organization within a private Brazilian business school based on solidarity economy ideology. Our findings show that three mechanisms - shifting demographics, financial sources, and institutional logics vulnerability - have a great impact on mission drift. We suggest institutional logics are more vulnerable (and thus become a peripheral logic or even disappear) if the logic a) is under-represented from within the organization, b) has an insufficient degree of institutionalization, c) lacks institutional logic referents at higher levels and, d) appears in an organization at the field's periphery and is thus less susceptible to the field's normative influence. Moreover, we propose that spaces of reflexivity are a crucial instrument to avoid mission drift, since they allow for protecting vulnerable logics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this research is to understand how a small group of business people was able to change their social positions, leading to the creation of an organization, RNSP, which achieved a central position in the political sphere in São Paulo city. We draw on history and institutional theory constructs (historical institutionalism, rhetorical history, institutional remembering, and sedimentation) to understand how RNSP created a subject position that enables the organization's power, consequently achieving numerous results for the city. We conclude that the business group's trajectory allowed the sedimentation of new institutions that benefit these actors, changing their subject positions to centrality. Rhetorical history was used to show only the history and institutional changes that would be valued in RNSP's creation (an organization in the political sphere that proposes accountability and non-partisanship) and institutional memory permitted RNSP to engage many civil society organizations, both increasing the organization centrality in the field. The aim of this research is to shed light on the micro foundations of how businesses influence the political arena through other organizations. Towards that purpose, we conducted a case study of Rede Nossa Sao Paulo, a meta-organization that aims to influence the municipal government of São Paulo, Brazil. We draw on corporate political activity and institutional theory to build our discussion. We conclude that businesses influence democracy indirectly through social movement organizations. The mechanisms of these influences are threefold: (a) founding and funding a meta- organization that represents civil society and maintains strong relationships with the organization's central authority; (b) populating the civil society field at the same time as infusing managerial logics and saturating the political agenda with their programs; and (c) using rhetorical strategies of A and B to influence government merged with social movements.
