Abstract

The Solar System Odyssey mission uses modern-day high-precision experimental techniques to test the laws of fundamental physics which determine dynamics in the solar system. It could lead to major discoveries by using demonstrated technologies. The mission proposes to perform a set of precision gravitation experiments from the vicinity of Earth to the outer Solar System. Its scientific objectives can be summarized as follows: i) test of the gravity force law in the Solar System up to and beyond the orbit of Saturn; ii) precise investigation of navigation anomalies at the fly-bys; iii) measurement of Eddington's parameter at occultations; iv) mapping of gravity field in the outer solar system and study of the Kuiper belt. To this aim, the Odyssey mission is built up on a main spacecraft, designed to fly up to 13 AU, with the following components: a) a high-precision accelerometer, with bias-rejection system, measuring the deviation of the trajectory from the geodesics; b) Ka-band transponders, as for Cassini, for a precise range and Doppler measurement up to 13 AU, with additional VLBI equipment; c) optional laser equipment, which would allow one to improve the range and Doppler measurement. In this baseline concept, the main spacecraft is designed to operate beyond the Saturn orbit, up to 13 AU. It experiences multiple planetary fly-bys at Earth, Mars or Venus, and Jupiter. The cruise and fly-by phases allow the mission to achieve its baseline scientific objectives (i) to iii) in the above list). In addition to this baseline concept, the Odyssey mission proposes the release of the Enigma radio-beacon at Saturn, allowing one to extend the deep space gravity test up to at least 50 AU, while achieving the scientific objective of a mapping of gravity field in the outer Solar System., Comment: revision with Experimental Astronomy Referee comments, correction of typographic errors, add of bibliographic reference, modification of authors list

Abstract

Cocoa fermented products in Indonesia generally produce poor quality fermentation. This study was conducted to compare the quality of fermented cocoa beans with the addition of mixed and single cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This study used a randomized block design (RAK) method with 7 treatments, namely control, single culture (KT5%), (KT10%), (KT15%) and mixed culture (KC5%), (KC10%), (KC15%). Observation parameters include pH, temperature, water content, reducing sugar content, lactic acid content, acetic acid content, total fat content, cut test and organoleptic. The analytical data obtained were then analyzed with the SAS device with a further test of 0.05% BNJ. The results showed that the addition of mixed culture (KC15%) had an effect on the quality of fermented cocoa beans. The quality of fermented cocoa beans in KC15% treatment showed reducing sugar content of 6.51%, lactic acid content of 0.05%, acetic acid content of 0.79%, total fat content of 50.10%, fermented beans 78% and organoleptic results on texture. , color, aroma and distinctive taste of cocoa, resulted in a good assessment of the KC15% treatment.

Abstract

Novel crop improvement methodologies, including the exploitation of natural genetic variation, are urgently required to feed our rapidly growing human population in the context of global climate change. Here we describe a ‘Fast Identification of Nucleotide variants by DigITal PCR’ (FIND-IT) method for the rapid identification of pre-targeted genetic variants or rare alleles in large genomic populations. Libraries of 500,000 individuals can be screened and desired variants isolated within two weeks. FIND-IT is widely applicable for mining valuable diversity in any genomic population, including elite breeding and wild germplasm collections. The method provides single nucleotide resolution that has been validated by identifying and isolating knockout lines, non-synonymous codon changes and variants of miRNA and transcription factor binding sites in the agronomically important crop barley. In contrast to existing methods, FIND-IT does not require transformation, cloning or enzymatic steps, and is exempt from GMO regulations. Thus, FIND-IT can be applied immediately to elite crop cultivars and can be tailored to minimize or eliminate time-consuming backcrossing requirements.
