En stor del av den akuta sjukvården handläggs utanför sjukhusen. Sjukvårdsupplysningen och distriktssköterskor hänvisar flertalet oklara och misstänkt allvarligare akutfall till hälsocentralen. Andra hänvisas till egenvård eller mer eller mindre akut sjukhuskontakt. Därtill söker många patienter direkt till hälsocentral. En liten andel av dessa patienter är så uppenbart svårt sjuka, att deras akuta remittering till sjukhus är given. I de flesta fall är dock situationen betydligt svårare att handlägga. Varje dags tjänstgöring vid hälsocentral eller akutmottagning kräver hundratals bedömningar och beslut. Patienterna strömmar in utan diagnostiska etiketter och antalet möjliga orsaker är mycket stort. Processen från symtom, via diagnos, till åtgärd måste ofta genomföras vid det aktuella kontakttillfället, under stark tidspress. Det är precis i denna kritiska beslutssituation som denna bok vill utgöra ett användbart stöd. Den möjliggör att, på ett fåtal minuter, erinra om vad som är vanligt, vad som är viktigt och vad som är försåtligt. Den ger stöd i den primära differentialdiagnostiken i ett osorterat patientklientel, och även förslag på konkret handläggning. Symtom – Diagnos – Terapi är en genomgripande omarbetning av en symtombaserad handbok som författarna skrev som unga läkare 1985. Boken som helhet har granskats och kompletterats av en erfaren specialist i allmänmedicin. Den primära målgruppen är läkare verksamma inom öppen akutsjukvård. Den är av värde även för andra yrkeskategorier inom detta verksamhetsområde och för studerande på läkarutbildningen.

Boken beskriver centrala försäkringsmedicinska begrepp ur ett både principiellt och kritiskt perspektiv samt ger en överblick över gällande regelverk. I boken framgår hur personförsäkringar utvecklats med tonvikt på svenska förhållanden men här finns även en jämförelse med andra närliggande länder. Försäkringsmedicinens medicinska och juridiska bedömningar belyses liksom dess kopplingar till juridiken och särskilt till skadeståndsrätten. Försäkringarnas innehåll och hur enskilda ärenden handläggs har förändrats varför flera områden, särskilt inom socialförsäkringen, är föremål för diskussion. Boken innehåller en kritisk analys av vissa sådana aspekter, bl.a. olika etiska perspektiv. Regelverken förändras i snabb takt och aktuella regler hämtas i dag framför allt via webben. Boken innehåller de viktigaste reglerna, framför allt inom socialförsäkringen, på en övergripande nivå. Syftet är att ge läsaren en fördjupad förståelse för de medicinska och juridiska principer som är centrala inom försäkringsmedicinen. Den innehåller också en övergripande beskrivning av gällande regelverk i Sverige och vissa andra länder. Boken vänder sig till personer som behöver en fördjupad förståelse för försäkringsmedicinska frågor, t.ex. läkare och annan sjukvårdspersonal, jurister och handläggare av personförsäkringar.

In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of 154 investments made by Swedish and international venture capital firms in Sweden. The purpose of this paper was to investigate whether the syndicated investments outperformed the non-syndicated investments in terms of growth and survival. The results show that the syndicated investments targeted different industries, primarily biotechnology and information and communications technology (ICT). The non-syndicated investments were to a larger extent made in mature firms in low-tech industries, such as traditional manufacturing and retail. Furthermore, the survival rate among the syndicated investments was significantly lower than the non-syndicated investments. This difference in survival rate is partly dependent upon the greater risk associated with investments in younger firms in rapidly growing industries. The managerial implication is that syndication is the means by which venture capital invests during the early stages of knowledge-based firms, thus making syndication between venture capitalists of primary concern for policy-making purposes.

This paper analyzes how different stages of the business cycle influence of level of control aversion displayed by entrepreneurs and how a changing economic climate affects financial search activity among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). By using empirical data from three postal surveys, we analyze the financial search behavior of SMEs in Sweden of a ten-year period, 1991-200. We use a cluster analysis based on the level of control aversion displayed by the entrepreneurs and arrive at a four-cluster solution. The results show that when the economy turns downward, entrepreneurs are forced to become more active in searching for additional sources of finance. When the economy recovers, the control-averse entrepreneurs reduce their efforts in trying to obtain external financing. We also find that SMEs in rural areas have greater difficulties in attracting external financing than do SMEs in metropolitan areas. It might not be possible to generalize this study to other settings because it is based on the Swedish cultural and legal context. Nevertheless, we believe that the situation faced by entrepreneurs in different stages of the business cycle is fundamentally the same, irrespective of context. This study provides evidence that policymakers need to take into account the comparative advantages and roles of various financiers in the financial infrastructure surrounding SMEs. The purpose of this book chapter is to present empirical findings and interpretations concerning the role of small and new firms for job creation and economic well-being from a regional perspective. More specifically, we will deal with the following questions: • Are small firms over-represented as creators of new jobs? • What characteristics of regions contribute to high levels of new firm formation? • Is a large and/or dynamic small firm sector a prerequisite for favorable development of various aspects of regional economic well-being? The analyses concern business dynamics in Sweden during the 1985-9 period, using a data set that was compiled for this particular research project. Importantly, the studied period was one of increasing GNP, rapid employment growth in the private service sector, and very low levels of unemployment in most regions. While many results from the project have been presented and discussed before (Davidsson, Lindmark & Olofsson, 1993a; 1993b; 1994a; 1994b; 1995a; 1995b; Davidsson, 1995a) some analyses were carried out specifically for this paper.

In this paper we describe and analyse the development of the Swedish venture capital industryand its syndication pattern during the years 1996–2004. These nine years can be divided intothree different stages in the business cycle. The period from 1996-1998 is considered to be aperiod of moderate growth, where the Swedish economy and capital market was stillrecovering from the crisis in the early 1990s. The level of investment and syndication wasrelatively low in comparison with the following years and the primary reason for syndicationwas that of sharing risks. In the overheated Swedish economy between 1999 and 2001 supplyof capital to early stage investments were plentiful and new venture capital firms entered themarket every month. Since capital was plentiful the investors was in constant search for newventures to invest in which made it easy for venture capitalists to find syndication partners fortheir second round financing at a good valuation. After the drastic downturn in the venturecapital industry in 2001 the level of investments was relatively low during 2002–2004. In all,the total number of investment during the period 2002–2004 was lower than during 2001.Furthermore, the investments during this period were to a large extent in the form ofsyndication. During the shake out period, the survivors of the industry were more prone to do first round syndications again. This paper reports on a comprehensive study of the role of SMEs for job creation and regional economic well-being in Sweden during the 1990-93 recession period as well as the years immediately preceding and following that period. It is found that SMEs were over-represented as job creators across business cycle stages and industries. Relatively little of systematic differences in SMEs role over the business cycle was detected. However, it was primarily very small, single-establishment firms that performed relatively well during the deep recession. Multi-establishment SMEs’ development was more akin to that of large firms. With regard to regional economic well-being it is concluded that relatively vivid SME activity has a positive or at worst neutral effect.

The structure of Ba2Nb5O9 can be described as an intergrowth between perovskite- (BaNbO3) and NbO-type slabs. The substitution of Ti for Nb according to the formula Ba2Nb5−xTixO9 (0.00≤x≤1.75) has been investigated. The decrease in unit cell parameters as a function of overall composition determined by microanalysis shows the maximum value of x to be around 0.9. At higher x values increasing amounts of BaNb1−xTixO3 and Nb were found. Rietveld refinements of the structure using X-ray powder diffraction data show Ti to prefer Nb positions in the perovskite slab (NbO6 octahedra) and the Nb positions in the NbO slab closest to the perovskite slabs. This latter Nb is five-fold coordinated by oxygen atoms, forming a square pyramid. The third Nb position, in the middle of the NbO slab with a square planar coordination of oxygen atoms, remains undoped. The electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility of the x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 samples were measured. All samples were found to be metallic conductors and temperature-independent paramagnetic.

De senaste åren har allt fler blickar riktats mot landskapsplanering, som ett verktyg att uppehålla/öka den biologiska mångfalden i skogsbruket. Denna mångbruksplanering i landskapsperspektiv som beskrivs i detta arbete utfördes på uppdrag av MoDo Skog AB, som ett led i deras strävan att följa den utveckling som sker inom området. Arbetet består av tre delar: -litteraturgenomgång - planering av ett område -undersökning av allmänhetens åsikter I arbetets litteraturgenomgång ges en orientering av kunskapsläget på landskapsplanerings­ fronten. I planeringsdelen redovisas tre olika mångbruksinriktningar vilka ger upphov till fyra tänkbara handlingsalternativ. Dessa alternativ utarbetades efter en fåltinventering av landskapet. De i mångbruksplaneringen ingående nyttigheterna är virkesproduktion, biologisk mångfald och rekreation. Virkesproduktionsalternativet representerar den typ av skogsutnyttjande som blir resultatet när endast skogsvårdslagens minimikrav uppfylls. De två naturvårdsprogramm en tar extra hänsyn till den biologiska mångfalden (större naturhänsyn än lagen kräver). I dessa båda alternativ utnyttjas självföryngring och skärmställning i högre grad än i det föregående alternativet. Naturvårdsbränning införs på en procent av landskapets areal per femårsperiod för att skapa livsbetingelser åt brandberoende organismer. Dessutom undantas en del av arealen helt från skogsbruk, och ytterligare en del överhålls under 50 år för att gynna organismer vilka är beroende av död ved och gammal skog. Beroende på vilket naturvårdsprogram som avses, används två olika metoder för att höja andelen grova lövträd i landskapet. I det ena alternativet minskas gallringsuttaget av löv med 50 % under en 50- årsperiod, där främst de grova lövträden sparas. I det andra naturvårdsalternativet självföryngras 12,6 ha med lövträd (1,7% av naturvårdsprogramm ens figurlagda areal).
