- Abstract
Hunting by rural and urban populations is essential for securing access to protein and other nutrients throughout the tropics. The hunting patterns of urban hunters in Amazonia, and the similarities with those of rural hunters, are unclear, as are the social factors that influence hunting practices. We analyze the effects of socioeconomic and cultural factors on hunting frequency and composition of species hunted by urban and rural Amazonian hunters. We interviewed 49 urban hunters and 57 rural hunters within 10 municipalities in western Amazonia in Brazil. A total of 44 species were cited as hunted. Our analyses show that the probability of engaging in sport hunting (for recreation) is greater among urban hunters. Rural inhabitants, hunters with lower monetary incomes, and hunters who were non-practicing Christians and atheists hunted more frequently. The composition of species hunted was similar, regardless of the hunters’ livelihood (rural or urban) or religion. We found that hunting frequency is influenced by hunters’ socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, but these factors do not affect the composition of the harvest. This similarity between urban and rural hunters might be related to species distribution and availability and could potentially impact the most hunted species if hunting grounds overlap. Understanding hunting patterns, especially those of urban hunters, allows for more effective hunting management strategies, improvements in law enforcement against illegal hunting, as well as development of more effective and sustainable conservation actions.

Cryoelectron microscopy has been used to determine the first structure of a virus when complexed with its glycoprotein cellular receptor. Human rhinovirus 16 (HRV16) complexed with the two amino-terminal, immunoglobulin-like domains of the intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) shows that ICAM-1 binds into the 12 A deep "canyon" on the surface of the virus. This is consistent with the prediction that the viral receptor attachment site lies in a cavity inaccessible to the host's antibodies. The atomic structures of HRV14 and CD4, homologous to HRV16 and ICAM-1, showed excellent correspondence with observed density, thus establishing the virus-receptor interactions.

- Abstract
Show the possibility of nerve maintenance in cases of deep parametrial endometriosis and the feasibility of performing extensive nodulectomy with the double stapling technique. Step by step technique video. Baía Sul Hospital – Brazil. A 39-year-old woman with infertility and chronic pelvic pain. Ultrasound revealed extensive thickening affecting the torus, uterosacral ligaments, and bilateral ovarian fossae, approximately 3.5 cm x 1.5 cm. Retraction of the rectal wall, with two areas: the first lesion 8 cm from the anal verge, 1.4 cm x 0.4 cm, 10% diameter, the second 1.3 cm from the first lesion, 4.0 cm x 0.7 cm until the submucosa, 35% circumference. Together, representing 7 cm. Extension to the right lateral compartment, infiltrating the posterior leaflet of the broad ligament near the uterine vessels, causing ureteral angulation. First release of the left colon, exposure of the left hypogastric nerve and ureter. On the right, the peritoneum was transversely opened at the promontory level for the release of the right ureter and hypogastric nerve. To remove right parametrial disease, the right uterine artery section was required. Aggressive shaving of the rectal lesion, leaving a 4.0 cm nodular area - release of the mesorectum from the sides of the loop, the passage of the Z-point, covering the lesion from proximal to distal. The first disc stapling was performed with partial removal of the lesion. A second staple was chosen, where the Z-point covers the previously stapled area and the remaining lesion. Rubber test, over-suturing, and fluorescence evaluation. Two bowel segments, 3.5 × 3cm and 5.5 × 2.7cm – muscularis propria up to the submucosa endometriosis. Free margins. Nerve sparing is feasible in lateral compartment treatment with functional preservation. The double circular stapling technique allows the removal of extensive nodular lesions safely. This case report investigates 5 real cases which followed legal channels and were judged by Mato Grosso Court in Brazil. Audio systems served as elements of key evidence on those lawsuits. The goal here is to analyze the cases by using a methodology based on the forensic speaker verification by using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) algorithm and to compare results with analyses obtained on real cases. The comparative analysis is assessed for time elapsed for obtaining results, as well as results quality. In Brazil, the lawsuit duration is very important, since the Penal Code foresees prescription after a given time, and it may lead to impunity. Results show that the analysis, by using OLS, generates immediate, effective results when compared to those obtained with traditional methodologies on the studied Brazilian lawsuits.

- Abstract
In this work, we initially report a detailed advancement in the utilization of metal-N4 chelate macrocycles in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Then, iron(II) phthalocyanines supported on two different carbon-based supports specifically carbon nanotube and black pearl (carbon spheres) were synthesized and their activities toward ORR in alkaline media were studied. With the help of physical and surface characterization like Raman, BET, XRD, XPS, and electron microscopy analysis, the similarity in surface chemistry and surface area of the materials and the differences in the structure and morphology of the supports were established. This work also brings forth the effect of support properties on the electrocatalytic activity of the materials by a detailed electrochemical analysis using rotating disk electrode in oxygen saturated 0.1 M KOH. Comparison with existing literature on Fe-phthalocyanine supported on diverse carbon support is presented.

Intensification of agrochemicals application in vineyards has raised several concerns in Viticulture and Oenology value chain. Efforts have been developed to optimize grapevine health and productivity, assuring that viticulture is sustainable and competitive in today’s wine market. Viticulture practices have constantly been improved for a more sustainable and environment-friendly production, reducing the application of agrochemicals, replacing them by natural compounds that can have a double effect: protect grapevine against pathogens and improve compounds related to grape organoleptic quality. In this context, the development and optimization of alternative strategies to improve and enhance plant defences and grape/wine quality is becoming a necessity. Since the 1980s, chitosan has become a compound of special interest due to its double effect as elicitor and grapevine biostimulant, representing a complement to soil fertilisation, and reducing the negative effects nutrients leaching into the groundwater. The present review aims to present the wide possibilities of chitosan applications on grapevines to prevent and combat the main diseases and to improve wine quality. In this way, relevant studies about chitosan application will be presented as well as some concerns and limitations in order to cover the knowledge gaps inherent to its application in vineyard and wine as well.

This paper presents the results of different searches for correlations between very high-energy neutrino candidates detected by IceCube and the highest-energy cosmic rays measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array. We first consider samples of cascade neutrino events and of high-energy neutrino-induced muon tracks, which provided evidence for a neutrino flux of astrophysical origin, and study their cross-correlation with the ultrahigh-energy cosmic ray (UHECR) samples as a function of angular separation. We also study their possible directional correlations using a likelihood method stacking the neutrino arrival directions and adopting different assumptions on the size of the UHECR magnetic deflections. Finally, we perform another likelihood analysis stacking the UHECR directions and using a sample of through-going muon tracks optimized for neutrino point-source searches with sub-degree angular resolution. No indications of correlations at discovery level are obtained for any of the searches performed. The smallest of the p-values comes from the search for correlation between UHECRs with IceCube high-energy cascades, a result that should continue to be monitored., Comment: Replaced with published version. The authors comment Genito Urinary Syndrome of Menopausal (GUSM) calling attention to the topic of sexual dysfunction that can be associated with the syndrome, but the specific point: deep dyspareunia (DD) is better accounted for by another syndrome, which also affects women who are not menopausal and which have in common the vagina that is short relative to the penis that penetrates it and therefore has a deep dyspareunia, which causes Relative Short Vagina Syndrome (RSVS). One of the causes of the short vagina is the hypoestrogenism that some women have, for various reasons, but in the premenopausal and menopausal women is, mainly, the decrease in hormones steroids by ovarian failure. There is a medical condition called deep dyspareunia (DD) that affects some climacteric and menopausal women with or without GSM, as well as women of any age. The DD does not occur, exclusively, during menopause, but is a source of discomfort at any age and is better explained by another diagnosis, the RSVS that presents chronic pelvic pain (CPP). The repeated deep dyspareunia leads to pelvic pain due two situations: 1- by primary dyspareunia - during intercourse, a bigger penis than the vagina can lead to injury of the vaginal tissue, 2- by secondary dyspareunia - there is an organic cause, as endometriosis or other, and just a penis touch this tissue, the patient fill pain. The goal is to show that many causes of chronic pelvic pain treated as a psychological cause, is concerned the RSVS. The ultimate aim is to improve the quality of sexual life of women.

The goal of this study was to generate the first values of local diagnostic reference levels for a range of fluoroscopically guided cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in adult patients in Chile and to compare radiation dose levels with others presented in the literature. The dosimetric data collection period was conducted over the whole of 2020. The local diagnostic reference levels were calculated as the 75th percentile of patient dose data distributions for kerma area-product values. The sample of collected clinical procedures (480) was divided into diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The kerma area-product differences found between diagnostic and therapeutic procedures were statistically significant. The local diagnostic reference levels were 81.6 Gy cm2 and 166.9 Gycm2 for fluoroscopically guided cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, respectively. A comparison of our results with results found in the literature for the last 10 years, showed that there are no published papers for hospitals in Latin America and the Caribbean. It becomes urgent to be able to carry out more research of this type, given that the health reality between countries on different continents is very different. While in some the establishment of diagnostic reference levels is a legal obligation, in others it is a matter of good or bad will.

Since data-taking began in January 2004, the Pierre Auger Observatory has been recording the count rates of low energy secondary cosmic ray particles for the self-calibration of the ground detectors of its surface detector array. After correcting for atmospheric effects, modulations of galactic cosmic rays due to solar activity and transient events are observed. Temporal variations related with the activity of the heliosphere can be determined with high accuracy due to the high total count rates. In this study, the available data are presented together with an analysis focused on the observation of Forbush decreases, where a strong correlation with neutron monitor data is found., Facultad de Ciencias Exactas

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the analgesic effect of laser therapy on healthy tissue of mice. STUDY DESIGN: Forty-five animals were divided in three groups of 15: A--infrared laser irradiation (830 nm, Kondortech, São Carlos, SP, Brazil); B--red laser irradiation (660 nm, Kondortech, São Carlos, SP, Brazil); C-- ham irradiation with laser unit off. After laser application, the mice remained immobilized for the injection of 30 microl of 2% formalin in the plantar pad of the irradiated hind paw. The time that the mouse kept the hind paw lifted was measured at 5 min intervals for 30 minutes. RESULTS: Results showed statistically significant differences comparing the control group with the infrared laser group at 5, 20, 25 and 30 accumulated minutes, and with the red laser group at all time points. The analysis of partial times, at each 5 minutes, showed statistically significant differences between the control and the laser groups up to 20 minutes. CONCLUSIONS: Laser therapy had an analgesic effect and red laser had the best results.

Starch characteristics generally alter with plant developmental stage. The object of this study is to evaluate the effects of planting and harvesting dates on root physical-chemical characteristics, starch granule size distribution, and viscographics properties of starches in Pachryrhizus ahipa. Harvesting dates influenced root and starch characteristics for the two planting dates. The best conditions for cultivating Pachyrhizus ahipa for starch extraction are October planting and July harvesting dates. Their flowers must be cut after three months of cultivation. Síndrome de Behcet - Abstract
Behçet disease is a recurrent systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology, that involves vessels of nearly all sizes and types. Because of this, disease manifestations can occur at many sites throughout the body. Central nervous system (CNS) involvement may be parenchymal or nonparenchymal and has a global prevalence that ranges from 3% to 10%. Main signs of CNS involvement are pyramidal and those resulting from brain stem lesions. Aseptic meningitis, mental changes, sphincter disturbances, pseudobulbar syndrome, and deep sensory abnormalities may be seen. Analysis of cerebrospinal fluid, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and brain angiography offer assistance in the diagnosis. The course of disease can be primary progressive, secondary progressive or have a relapsing-remitting profile. Boluses of methylprednisolone for three days followed by cyclophosphamide are the treatment of choice. This papers discusses these aspects of neuro-Behcet on the basis of complex clinical case

Assessing sustainability of the wine industry requires improved characterization of its environmental impacts, namely in terms of water use. Therefore, quantification of water inputs and wastewater (WW) outputs is needed to highlight inefficiencies in wine production and related consequences for the environment. Water use and WW generation in irrigated viticulture and oenology remains insufficiently quantified for dry Mediterranean regions (e.g. South Portugal). This paper is focused on wine production under warm and dry climate conditions in the winegrowing region of Alentejo (South Portugal). This region experiences increasingly dry conditions, while the irrigated area keeps expanding, which puts exacerbates the pressure on existing local and regional water resources. Additionally, more erratic variation in climate conditions and the tendency for increasingly extreme climate events (e.g. heat waves) pose more challenges to Alentejo’s wine sector. We conclude that quantitative information on water use and management is not always easy to obtain or access, which hinders improved strategies and/or policies for water use at farm, winery and region-level. Up-to-date statistics and robust metrics can help to better characterize water use and WW flows for Alentejo’s wine region, while optimizing management in vineyards and wineries, in companies and region-wide. The paper is focused on a “Farm-Winery” scenario, which is the most common in South Portugal’s wine sector

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate exploratory models about the effects of factors students attitudes toward Portuguese language and maths, age and sex that may interfere with attitudes toward school while explicitly modelling the multilevel structure of a large data set from an educational context. Based on a study with Portuguese youngsters (N=671) from regular classes, whom we applied Questionnaires of Attitudes Toward School, Toward Portuguese language and Toward mathematics. We used regression trees algorithm to predict a student attitudes toward school model. The results come to reveal the importance of understand attitudes toward school as being majorly affected for students emotionality (disaffection and like) to maths and Portuguese language., Este estudo teve como objectivo investigar modelos exploratórios sobre os efeitos das atitudes dos alunos face à língua portuguesa e à matemática, idade e sexo nas atitudes face à escola, mais especificamente num modelo multidimensional do contexto educativo alargado.

With the emergence and integration of the languages VRML and JAVA, the number of available shared virtual environments in the WWW is increasing. However, due to the slow progress of the VRML language and the lack of conformance to its complete specification by the actual browsers, successful 3D environments face some limitations: from high latency to low presentation quality and small number of users supported. This is further worsened by the restrictive security placed upon applets what prevents the use of more efficient communication models such as multicasting (also limited by the actual network technology of the Internet). This article discusses these limitations and presents the implementation and evaluation of the Shared Virtual Reality Tool (SVRT), which supports the sharing of virtual environments among multiple users through the integration of tools and mechanisms of the WWW. The evaluation shows that latency is, on average, 200 ms-a value considered as acceptable in the literature for loosely synchronized interactive 3D applications.
