The condition characterized by the hardening of compacted stools in the rectum and colon is called fecaloma. Its diagnosis is made through a combination of anamnesis, physical examination, such as abdominal palpation, and complementary tests, such as blood count and abdominal radiography, in order to confirm the clinical suspicion and assess the stage of the condition, with the aim of directing medical treatment towards a drug or surgical approach. With this in mind, the aim of this study is to report on an enterotomy procedure to remove a fecaloma in a 6-year-old German Shepherd canine patient. The treatment followed a surgical approach, through enterotomy, which was satisfactory and resulted in the animal being discharged 48 hours after the procedure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
