4. H2S and H2O Combined Effect on CO2Capture by Amino Functionalized Hollow Microsphere Silicas

Abstract

Hollow microspheres of silica were synthesized and functionalized with amino groups to enhance carbon dioxide adsorption. Functionalization was intended to provide acid–base interaction between CO2and amine groups. Samples were characterized by N2adsorption/desorption isotherms at 77 K, X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. For adsorption experiments, both volumetric and gravimetric devices were used to quantify adsorbed CO2as a function of pressure and temperature. CO2adsorption isotherms obtained for the amine grafted silica confirmed the coexistence of chemical and physical adsorption sites within the material, which means that CO2binding occurs not only by physical mechanisms on micropores but also due to interactions with amino groups. The saturation of the adsorbent with H2S to simulate the purification of natural gas or biogas slightly diminishes CO2adsorption capacity due to competition between CO2and H2S for amine sites. Preadsorption of H2O on the H2S saturated adsorbent did not lead to improvements in CO2uptake. On the contrary, preloaded H2O combined with H2S seems to block some of the chemical sites involved in CO2adsorption.

6. INFLUÊNCIA DA RAZÃO C/T E SALINIDADE DA FASE AQUOSA EM SISTEMAS MICROEMULSIONADOS COM OCS-BUTANOL-ÁGUA-QUEROSENE.

Abstract

This work aims to study the best region of microemulsion by calculating the integral area by varying some parameters. We used a saponified coconut oil (OCS) as surfactant, cosurfactant butanol, kerosene as a nonpolar component, water or brine (2%KCl) as polar component. The binodal curves were determined by clouding point titration method. The composition of the mixture for each point on the binodal curve was determined from the amount of titrant added until turbidity was observed using an analytical balance. We studied the influence of the ratio cosurfactant/surfactant(C/T) and salinity by varying these parameters. Prioritizing the microemulsion region, it was found that for the system with water, the increase of the ratio C/T region extends microemulsion. The system showed the best area in this case was the water-kerosenebutanol/OCS=3. For a system with brine, it was found that increasing the salinity decreased the microemulsion region for a given ratio C/T fixed. The systems that best presented area in this case were the systems kerosenebutanol/OCS=2/2% KCl and kerosene-butanol/OCS=3/2% KCl. For systems in which there was a variation in the salinity and the ratio C/T, it was found that increasing the ratio C/T associated with decreased variation in salinity of the microemulsion region (kerosene-butanol/OCS=2/2% KCl). Statistical analysis of AC group patients with normal α genes and α-Thal23.7kb carriers showed differences in MCV (P = 0.001); MCH (P = 0.003) and Hb C concentrations (P = 0.011). Analysis of AA and AC group patients with normal α genes showed differences in RBC (P = 0.033), Hb concentration (P = 0.003) and MCHC (P < 0.0001). There were no statistically significant differences for any hematologic parameters between AC and AA group patients with the α-Thal23.7kb genotype. The AC α-Thal23.7kb homozygous women had low hematologic parameters. Serum ferritin levels were normal among the groups studied. These results emphasize the importance of diagnosis and follow-up of patients with hemoglobinopathy carriers during pregnancy in order to administer adequate therapy and avoid further complications for mothers and newborns.
