R E S U M O Esse trabalho �� parte complementar de uma pesquisa de p��s-gradua����o que tem como objetivo avaliar a perda de solo na bacia do rio Santa Maria do Doce (Esp��rito Santos), vez que a regi��o vem sofrendo press��o antr��pica quanto ao uso do solo. Nesse sentido, devido ao desencadeamento de problem��ticas ambientais diversos, modelos matem��ticos foram desenvolvidos a fim de realizar o levantamento dos processos erosivos, com vistas a projetos e pesquisas de conserva����o. O advento dos sistemas de informa����es geogr��ficas-SIG���s veio auxiliar essas an��lises, com a possibilidade de realizar mensura����es espaciais a n��veis regionais e globais. A partir disso, os par��metros da Equa����o Universal Revisada de Perda de Solo-RUSLE foram espacializados pela ��rea da bacia de interesse, resultando em um valor m��dio de perda de solo de 26,60 t.ha-1.ano-1. A regi��o sudeste da bacia teve destaque por apresentar ��reas de valor muito superior �� m��dia, possivelmente pelo uso agr��cola em conson��ncia a um relevo acidentado, alta taxa pluviom��trica e solo do tipo Cambissolo. Em rela����o a produ����o de sedimentos enviado ao curso principal do rio Doce, o valor estimado de contribui����o �� de 5,33 t.ha-1.ano-1. The objective in this study was to determine the nutrient contents in Myrciaria dubia plants in function of five K2O doses (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg ha-1) applied through fertigation. Leaf dry matter (LDM), total dry matter (TDM), and leaf nutrient contents were evaluated. The LDM and TDM were higher in plants subjected to the dose of 160 kg ha-1 of K2O, with 52.44 g and 302.69 g, respectively. Leaf N and K contents were 22.15 and 9.48 g kg-1 in response to 160 kg ha-1 of K2O. The mean P, Ca and S contents were 1.6, 17.89 and 1.61 g kg-1, respectively, and the content of Mg2 + decreased from 5.62 to 2.74 g kg-1 at the dose of 0 and 160 kg ha-1 of K2O, respectively. The B, Mn and Fe contents decreased from 136.5 to 100.0, 346.24 to 248, and from 142.06 to 97.35 mg kg-1 at the dose of 0 and 160 kg ha-1 of K2O, respectively. The mean Cu and Zn contents were 3.81 and 40,54 mg kg-1, respectively, at the K2O doses. The nutrient content determined in the leaves of M. dubia were adequate for the development of the species in the first year of cultivation, presenting the following decreasing order: N> Ca> K> Mg> P = S> Mn> B> Fe > Zn> Cu. Background The effectiveness of radial access ( RA ) in ST ‐elevation myocardial infarction ( STEMI ) has been predominantly established in primary percutaneous coronary intervention ( pPCI ) with limited exploration of this issue in the early postfibrinolytic patient. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness and safety of RA versus femoral ( FA ) access in STEMI undergoing either a pharmacoinvasive ( PI ) strategy or pPCI . Methods and Results Within ST rategic Reperfusion Early After Myocardial Infarction ( STREAM ), we evaluated the relationship between arterial access site and primary outcome (30‐day composite of death, shock, congestive heart failure, or reinfarction) and major bleeding according to the treatment strategy received. A total of 1820 STEMI patients were included: 895 PI (49.2%; rescue PCI [n=379; 42.3%], scheduled PCI [n=516; 57.7%]) and 925 pPCI (50.8%). Irrespective of treatment strategy, there was comparable utilization of either access site ( FA : PI 53.4% and pPCI 57.6%). FA STEMI patients were younger, had lower presenting systolic blood pressure, lesser Thrombolysis In Myocardial Infarction risk, and more ∑ ST ‐elevation at baseline. The primary composite endpoint occurred in 8.9% RA versus 15.7% FA patients ( P RA persisted (adjusted odds ratio [ OR ], 0.59; 95% CI , 0.44–0.78; P pPCI (adjusted OR , 0.63; 95% CI , 0.43–0.92) and PI cohorts (adjusted OR , 0.57 95% CI , 0.37–0.86; P interaction=0.730). There was no difference in nonintracranial major bleeding with either access group ( RA vs FA , 5.2% vs 6.0%; P =0.489). Conclusions Regardless of the application of a PI or pPCI strategy, RA was associated with improved clinical outcomes, supporting current STEMI evidence in favor of RA in PCI . Diabetes mellitus is a widespread disease whose frequency increases constantly and is expected to reach alarming levels by the year 2025. Introduction of insulin therapy represented a major breakthrough; however, a very strict regimen is required to maintain blood glucose levels within the normal range and to prevent or postpone chronic complications associated with this disease. Frequent hyper- and hypoglycemia seriously affect the quality of life of these patients. Reversion of this situation can only be achieved through whole organ (pancreas) transplant or pancreatic islet transplant, the former being a high-risk surgical procedure, while the latter is a much simpler and may be accomplished in only 20-40 min. The advantages and perspectives of islet cell transplantation will be discussed, in the light of tissue engineering and gene therapy. Ongoing research carried out in our laboratory, aimed at developing clinical cell and molecular therapy protocols for diabetes will also be focused.
