Item does not contain fulltext, BACKGROUND: Several reports have demonstrated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the management and outcome of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The aim of the current analysis is to investigate the potential gender difference in the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on mechanical reperfusion and 30-day mortality for STEMI patients within the ISACS-STEMI COVID-19 Registry. METHODS: This retrospective multicenter registry was performed in high-volume primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) centers on four continents and included STEMI patients undergoing PPCIs in March-June 2019 and 2020. Patients were divided according to gender. The main outcomes were the incidence and timing of the PPCI, (ischemia time ≥ 12 h and door-to-balloon ≥ 30 min) and in-hospital or 30-day mortality. RESULTS: We included 16683 STEMI patients undergoing PPCIs in 109 centers. In 2020 during the pandemic, there was a significant reduction in PPCIs compared to 2019 (IRR 0.843 (95% CI: 0.825-0.861, p < 0.0001). We did not find a significant gender difference in the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the numbers of STEMI patients, which were similarly reduced from 2019 to 2020 in both groups, or in the mortality rates. Compared to prepandemia, 30-day mortality was significantly higher during the pandemic period among female (12.1% vs. 8.7%; adjusted HR [95% CI] = 1.66 [1.31-2.11], p < 0.001) but not male patients (5.8% vs. 6.7%; adjusted HR [95% CI] = 1.14 [0.96-1.34], p = 0.12). CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the treatment of patients with STEMI, with a 16% reduction in PPCI procedures similarly observed in both genders. Furthermore, we observed significantly increased in-hospital and 30-day mortality rates during the pandemic only among females. Trial registration number: NCT 04412655.

The aim of the current analysis is to evaluate the age-related effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on mechanical reperfusion and 30-day mortality for STEMI within the registry ISACS-STEMI COVID-19. METHODS: This retrospective multicenter registry was performed in high-volume PPCI centers on four continents and included STEMI patients undergoing PPCI in March-June 2019 and 2020. Patients were divided according to age (< or ≥75 years). The main outcomes were the incidence and timing of PPCI, (ischemia time longer than 12 h and door-to-balloon longer than 30 min), and in-hospital or 30-day mortality. RESULTS: We included 16,683 patients undergoing PPCI in 109 centers. In 2020, during the pandemic, there was a significant reduction in PPCI as compared to 2019 (IRR 0.843 (95%-CI: 0.825-0.861, p < 0.0001). We found a significant age-related reduction (7%, p = 0.015), with a larger effect on elderly than on younger patients. Furthermore, we observed significantly higher 30-day mortality during the pandemic period, especially among the elderly (13.6% vs. 17.9%, adjusted HR (95% CI) = 1.55 [1.24-1.93], p < 0.001) as compared to younger patients (4.8% vs. 5.7%; adjusted HR (95% CI) = 1.25 [1.05-1.49], p = 0.013), as a potential consequence of the significantly longer ischemia time observed during the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the treatment of patients with STEMI, with a 16% reduction in PPCI procedures, with a larger reduction and a longer delay to treatment among elderly patients, which may have contributed to increase in-hospital and 30-day mortality during the pandemic.

Item does not contain fulltext, OBJECTIVE: The initial data of the International Study on Acute Coronary Syndromes - ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction COVID-19 showed in Europe a remarkable reduction in primary percutaneous coronary intervention procedures and higher in-hospital mortality during the initial phase of the pandemic as compared with the prepandemic period. The aim of the current study was to provide the final results of the registry, subsequently extended outside Europe with a larger inclusion period (up to June 2020) and longer follow-up (up to 30 days). METHODS: This is a retrospective multicentre registry in 109 high-volume primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) centres from Europe, Latin America, South-East Asia and North Africa, enrolling 16 674 patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing PPPCI in March/June 2019 and 2020. The main study outcomes were the incidence of PPCI, delayed treatment (ischaemia time >12 hours and door-to-balloon >30 min), in-hospital and 30-day mortality. RESULTS: In 2020, during the pandemic, there was a significant reduction in PPCI as compared with 2019 (incidence rate ratio 0.843, 95% CI 0.825 to 0.861, p<0.0001). This reduction was significantly associated with age, being higher in older adults (>75 years) (p=0.015), and was not related to the peak of cases or deaths due to COVID-19. The heterogeneity among centres was high (p<0.001). Furthermore, the pandemic was associated with a significant increase in door-to-balloon time (40 (25-70) min vs 40 (25-64) min, p=0.01) and total ischaemia time (225 (135-410) min vs 196 (120-355) min, p<0.001), which may have contributed to the higher in-hospital (6.5% vs 5.3%, p<0.001) and 30-day (8% vs 6.5%, p=0.001) mortality observed during the pandemic. The radiodensity of the trabecular bone of the lumbar vertebrae in 16 healthy adult cats was studied using quantitative computed tomography (QCT). The average radiodensity of the trabecular bone of the second lumbar vertebra was 436.1±42.1 Hounsfield units. However, there was a nonhomogeneous radiodensity distribution of the vertebral body.

Work has been carried out to characterise dry battery scrap and establish a processing flowsheet. This was done using hammer mill grinding, size separation, magnetic separation and specific weight separation in water. Yields from each stage were characterised using chemical analysis and X-ray diffractometry. After size classification, 76.6% of the total amount of Zn was over 1.70 mm. This fraction was mainly Zn and some coarse pieces from the steel body, paper and plastics. This was submitted to magnetic separation followed by weight separation. A visual examination showed that during grinding, graphite was concentrated in the finer fractions. Concentration of Mn in the fractions over 6.35 mm was less than 2%, implying low contamination by the paste in this fraction. Abstract

The gall-induction rates in a population of the superhostCopaifera langsdorffii,located in a rocky field vegetation in Brazil, should follow sprouting events and water availability. The presence or absence of leaf flushing, the activity index for the vegetative phenophases, and the water potential were used to test this hypothesis, and ordination via canonical correspondence analysis was employed to test possible synchronisms. Based on 6881 sampled galls, three seasonal syndromes were observed for nine distinct morphotypes along a one-year cycle. The first syndrome related the decrease in the abundance of horn-shaped and cup-shaped galls with dry season. The second one revealed that other four morphotypes adjusted their cycles to leaf flushing, and the third syndrome involved three galls which occurred homogeneously along the year, with a tenuous peak of abundance in July. AbstractThe present study describes the volatile composition of aerial parts (leaves and stems), flowers and fruits from Bidens gardneriand Bidens sulphurea.The first species is widely distributed in Pantanal (Brazil) and is a traditional medicinal plant, while the second species is widely distributed throughout Brazil. In all analyses, observed were constituents like bicycloelemene, α-copaene, β-caryophyllene, germacrene D, bicyclogermacrene and others. However, some compounds were identified only in one part of the plants analyzed. These results indicated some differences in the composition of the plants studied and they were in agreement with data of literature.

However, to date no dementia- and age-specific QoL scale has been developed for use with older family carers.\ud \ud Aim: This PhD study aimed to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of the ‘Dementia Quality of Life Scale for Older Family Carers’ (DQoL-OC), a dementia- and age-specific scale for the evaluation of QoL of older family carers. This tool might provide more robust QoL outcomes than scales currently being used with this particular population, helping to improve the quality of the evidence that results from studies and interventions aimed at evaluating and enhancing the QoL of these individuals.\ud \ud Methods: This is a sequential exploratory mixed-methods research. The DQoL-OC items were identified in four focus groups with 19 older family carers in Nottinghamshire. Data were transcribed verbatim and analysed by two researchers independently, using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Inter-coder reliability was established using the Cohen’s kappa coefficient. A set of 89 items assessed using a five-point rating scale was generated and evaluated for content and face validity by a panel of six experts. The modified version of the DQoL-OC containing 100 items was then tested with a non-probabilistic sample of 182 older family carers in the UK who were providing care at home for family members with dementia. A battery of additional scales was administered to establish convergent construct validity: the Satisfaction with Life Scale; the WHOQOL-AGE QoL Scale; Perceived Health Status Visual Analogue Scale; and Overall Perceived Health-Related Quality of Life Visual Analogue Scale. The QoL model was identified using Exploratory Factor Analysis. Eighteen participants took part in the test-retest reliability, and the two measurement sets were correlated using Intraclass Correlation. Cronbach’s alpha was used to measure internal consistency reliability. The Pearson coefficient was used to provide evidence of convergent construct validity and the Spearman’s rho coefficient was used to correlate the DQoL-OC with other sociodemographic and caregiving variables.\ud \ud Results: Thirty-three themes emerged from focus groups and were collated into three superordinate themes: aspects of care and caregiving; feelings and concerns; and satisfaction with life and with caregiving. Very good inter-coder reliability was established (r=0.839). The psychometric study demonstrated that a one-factor solution containing 22 items best represented the new QoL model.
