Abstract

O presente artigo trata sobre umas das questões mais atuais da Teologia, a saber, o pluralismo religioso. Este pode ser tido entre aqueles sinais dos tempos que o Concílio Vaticano II afirma que é missão e dever dá Igreja perscrutar. A reflexão teológica deve buscar uma valoração positiva e uma tomada de consciência acerca dos desafios atuais que se apresentam ao pluralismo religioso. O Vaticano II, em sua pauta, abordou essa realidade ao se referir sobre as religiões não cristãs, tema praticamente inédito em um terreno virgem no âmbito eclesial. Essa Teologia, ainda em construção, reverberou profundamente no Magistério dos papas pós-conciliares (João Paulo II, Bento XVI e Francisco). Assim, neste artigo apresentam-se alguns modelos teológicos presentes no diálogo com as religiões. Em seguida, discutem-se as ressonâncias que a teologia do pluralismo religioso encontrou no Vaticano II. Por fim, destacam-se quais aspectos que representam tanto continuidade e/ou descontinuidade no tocante à questão do diálogo inter-religioso presente no Magistério dos papas pós-conciliares

4. The number of Prime Parking Functions

Abstract

A parking function of length $n$ is prime if we obtain a parking function of length $n-1$ by deleting one 1 from it. In this note we give a new direct proof that the number of prime parking functions of length $n$ is $(n-1)^{n-1}$. This proof leads to a new interpretation, in close terms to the definition of parking function.

Abstract

Quantum information processing has been one of the pillars of the new information age. In this sense, the control and processing of quantum information plays a fundamental role, and computers capable of manipulating such information have become a reality. In this article we didactically present basic elements of the latest version of IBM's quantum computer and its main tools. We also present in detail the Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm used to differentiate constant functions from balanced functions, also, including a discussion of its efficiency against classical algorithms for the same task. The experimental implementation of the algorithm in a 4-qbit system is presented. Abstract

Observations of metal absorption systems in the spectra of distant quasars allow to constrain a possible variation of the fine-structure constant throughout the history of the Universe. Such a test poses utmost demands on the wavelength accuracy and previous studies were limited by systematics in the spectrograph wavelength calibration. A substantial advance in the field is therefore expected from the new ultra-stable high-resolution spectrograph Espresso, recently installed at the VLT. In preparation of the fundamental physics related part of the Espresso GTO program, we present a thorough assessment of the Espresso wavelength accuracy and identify possible systematics at each of the different steps involved in the wavelength calibration process. Most importantly, we compare the default wavelength solution, based on the combination of Thorium-Argon arc lamp spectra and a Fabry-P\'erot interferometer, to the fully independent calibration obtained from a laser frequency comb. We find wavelength-dependent discrepancies of up to 24m/s. This substantially exceeds the photon noise and highlights the presence of different sources of systematics, which we characterize in detail as part of this study. Nevertheless, our study demonstrates the outstanding accuracy of Espresso with respect to previously used spectrographs and we show that constraints of a relative change of the fine-structure constant at the $10^{-6}$ level can be obtained with Espresso without being limited by wavelength calibration systematics., Comment: 27 pages, accepted for publication in A&A

Abstract

Focal ratio degradation (FRD), the increase of light's focal ratio between the input into an optical fiber and the output, is important to characterize for astronomical spectrographs due to its effects on throughput and the point spread function. However, while FRD is a function of many fiber properties such as stresses, microbending, and surface imperfections, angular misalignments between the incoming light and the face of the fiber also affect the light profile and complicate this measurement. A compact experimental setup and a model separating FRD from angular misalignment was applied to a fiber subjected to varying stresses or angular misalignments to determine the magnitude of these effects. The FRD was then determined for a fiber in a fiber positioner that will be used in the Subaru Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS). The analysis we carried out for the PFS positioner suggests that effects of angular misalignment dominate and no significant FRD increase due to stress should occur., Comment: 18 pages, 16 figures

Abstract

Ultra-hot giant exoplanets receive thousands of times Earth's insolation. Their high-temperature atmospheres (>2,000 K) are ideal laboratories for studying extreme planetary climates and chemistry. Daysides are predicted to be cloud-free, dominated by atomic species and substantially hotter than nightsides. Atoms are expected to recombine into molecules over the nightside, resulting in different day-night chemistry. While metallic elements and a large temperature contrast have been observed, no chemical gradient has been measured across the surface of such an exoplanet. Different atmospheric chemistry between the day-to-night ("evening") and night-to-day ("morning") terminators could, however, be revealed as an asymmetric absorption signature during transit. Here, we report the detection of an asymmetric atmospheric signature in the ultra-hot exoplanet WASP-76b. We spectrally and temporally resolve this signature thanks to the combination of high-dispersion spectroscopy with a large photon-collecting area. The absorption signal, attributed to neutral iron, is blueshifted by -11+/-0.7 km s-1 on the trailing limb, which can be explained by a combination of planetary rotation and wind blowing from the hot dayside. In contrast, no signal arises from the nightside close to the morning terminator, showing that atomic iron is not absorbing starlight there.
