Dikkat Eksikliği ve Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (DEHB) olan çocuklar eğitim hayatları boyunca birçok zorlukla karşılaşmaktadırlar. Bu çalışmanın amacı sınıfta dikkatlerini daha iyi toplayacakları bir tahta ve duvar rengi bileşeni olup olmadığını bulmaktır. Bunun için dört deney ortamı hazırlanmış, DEHB’li çocuklar buralarda en sıkıntı çektikleri konularda özel olarak hazırlanmış testleri çözmüşlerdir. Tek Faktör üzerinde Tekrar Ölçümler için ANOVA analizleri sonucu Şifreleme ve Eşleme görevlerinde duvar ve tahta renginin farklı olduğu odalarda, aynı olduğu odalara göre anlamlı derecede daha az hata yapıldığı bulunmuştur. Çift Bulma testinde katılımcıların hızı tahta ve duvarın kırmızı olduğu odada her ikisinin de beyaz olduğu odaya kıyasla anlamlı düzeyde artmıştır. Okuma görevinde deney ortamları arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmasa da DEHB’li katılımcı grubunun duvar ve tahta rengi farklı olan odalarda hatalarını daha fazla düzelttikleri gözlemlenmektedir. Sonuç olarak sınıflarda tahtanın bulunduğu duvarın tahtadan farklı bir renge boyanmasının DEHB’li çocukların dikkatlerini daha kolay toplamasına yardımcı olacağı düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular ışığında renk ögesinin farklı eğitim etkinliklerinde, farklı renkte nesne ve ortamların kullanımıyla DEHB’li çocuk, genç ve yetişkinlerin öğrenme güçlerine ve ruhsal durumlarına olumlu yönde katkıda bulunabileceği düşünülmektedir.

Chapter 22 This study investigated travellers’ wayfinding performance according to the correlated colour temperature (CCT) of lighting in a virtual airport environment. In the first phase an experiment was conducted under 3000K (yellowish-white) and 12000K (bluish-white) light. Universal face representations of basic emotions (anger, disgust, neutral, surprise, happiness, fear, sadness) were shown to participants and they were asked to choose a single face. In the second phase, two questionnaires were conducted to identify participants’ level of presence in the virtual environment. Females were significantly more lacking in confidence than males in finding their destination, hesitating more often. The results indicated that participants’ wayfinding performance was better under 12000K, which they also associated with more positive emotion.

This article investigates the free associations of materials and colors in the context of interior architecture. Materials and colors rarely appear alone in interiors; therefore, in the scope of this study, the researchers explored material pairs and color pairs in addition to single materials and single colors. To elicit free associations from these interior design elements, 192 randomly selected volunteers participated in an experiment using a group of material (fabric, timber, plasterboard) and color (red, green, white) models under controlled conditions. The results contribute to an increased understanding of the associations between the concepts of materials and colors in interiors. While, each model was associated with sensory descriptors, only some models were associated with symbolic or affective descriptors. Single materials were related to different descriptors in interiors on their own, but when they were paired they were associated with fewer affective descriptors. The results showed that color pairs were always associated with all types of descriptors with an exception of red and green color pair, which was not mentioned with affective descriptors. The study findings are expected to be beneficial for interior architects, architects, product designers and researchers who want to shape and investigate a user's experience of interiors. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The focus of this article is on the application of Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) principles on design process. Designers begin acquiring HFE principles and data during their university education. Universal Design (UD) approaches HFE as incorporating the whole of the population rather than a certain percent. This study explores the effectiveness of a specially designed course on UD in an interior architecture undergraduate program. After completion of the course, students were asked to evaluate their learning process. It was observed that learning UD principles is a process and requires some time, rather than being book information. The majority found the course helpful in increasing their awareness of UD issues. They also found the course helpful for improving their design work. The research suggests UD to be integrated into the interior design curriculum both as a separate course on its own and within the context of the design studios.

Ambiance is the character and atmosphere of a place that is of great importance to interior designers both to express themselves and to create emotionally fulfi lling spaces. Color and lighting are powerful design tools for creating different ambiances. This chapter purports to fi nd out how colored light is used in an interior to provide a specifi c ambiance. One hundred and fourteen undergraduate interior architecture students were asked to make twelve groups to create either a “calming” or “exciting” ambiance in a specially designed set-up. All groups were free to use red, yellow, green, blue, and white colored lights. Findings of the study indicated that for an exciting ambiance, general and foreground brightness were kept bright and color contrasts were used. A calming ambiance was created with dimmed general and foreground brightness and with subtle color differences. Furthermore, factor analysis was used to group the related items in creating an ambiance according to their importance.
