BACKGROUND: The study aimed to examine psychopathic deviant attributes and psychophysiological symptoms among undergraduate students of Rivers State University, Port Harcourt. METHODS: This cross-sectional study sampled 43 undergraduate students (400 level psychology students) from Rivers State University (11.6% males, n = 5, 88.3% females, n = 38) between the ages of 19 and 33 years (mean age = 22.8 years, SD = 2.23). The psychopathic deviate scale by Hathaway and Mckinley (1967) and the psychophysiological symptoms checklist by Omoluabi (1987) were used to gather participants' data. Three hypotheses were tested. RESULTS: Findings showed that females did not present a significantly (p > .05) higher score than males in psychopathic deviate attributes (females χ² = 21.1316, males χ² = 22.4000, t = 454, df = 41) and in psychophysiological symptoms (females χ² =77.0000, males χ² = 83.9211 t = -.386, df = 41). Psychopathic deviant attributes also showed a significant positive correlation with psychophysiological symptoms (r = .591, p <.01) among the studied undergraduate students. The study affirmed that both genders are similar in their manifestation of psychopathic deviant traits and psychophysiological symptoms. CONCLUSION: The study confirmed results from previous studies on the prevalence of psychopathic deviant traits and psychophysiological symptom variables among young people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Oil palm is known to utilize a high amount of soil nutrients for optimum growth and development. Nutrient management is paramount to the production of high fruit bunch hence the reason for this study is to evaluate the fertility status of selected oil palm plantation in Ondo west Local Government Area. Two different species of oil palm (hybrid and non-hybrid species) were investigated for their physiochemical parameters. Soil samples from non-hybrid (B) recorded N, P and K content below the critical nutrient (NPK) content for oil palm tree. The nutrient availability index indicated a low nutrient availability of TN, OM, P and Mg for soil samples from non-hybrid (B). Therefore proper nutrient management approaches such as the application of inorganic fertilizer should be adopted especially for nutrients that are deficient and low from non-hybrid (B). Background information: The phytochemicals of endophytes have generated substantial interest in drug discovery programs because they offer the possibility of discovering new biologically active molecules. Objective: The objective of this study was to quantify and analyze the phytochemical profile of the fungus endophytic extracts isolated from Azadirachta indica leaves, which have been used ethnobotanically for treating malaria and bacterial infections. Methods: Endophytic fungi were isolated, solid-state fermentation of rice medium was performed, and secondary metabolites were extracted according to standard techniques. An analytical system that uses gas chromatography and flame ionization detection (GC-FID) was used to determine the phytochemical constituents contained in the endophytes. Results: The results of GC-FID analysis showed the presence of Ribalinidine, Naringenin, Sparteine, Phenol, Steroids, Kaempferol, Flavone, Oxalate, Catechin, Tannin, and Rutin at different concentrations. Conclusion: This study reveals the promising ability of the endophytic fungi of A. indica as a foundation of naturally occurring bioactive. The quantitative phytochemical assessment of the endophyte extracts from the leaves of A.indica showed that endophyte extracts from the plant are rich in both alkaloids and flavonoids (Phenolics). The geomechanical characterization of the reservoirs of "Beta Field" was carried out to predict the stability of hydrocarbon reservoir rocks and hence, mitigate drilling and exploitation challenges within offshore Niger Delta. Gamma ray, sonic, and density logs from four wells within the field, including core data and 3D reflection seismic volume from the area, were integrated to determine rock mechanical and petrophysical properties from empirical equations, and generate 3D geomechanical models using Petrel and Ms-Excel software. Principal stresses operating within the reservoirs and pore pressure were also estimated from empirical models. Cross plots of these rock parameters were obtained to ascertain the relationship between them and obtain model equations. Results show that the rock mechanical properties have lower values in sand units than shale units with petrophysical parameters having lower values in shale. Average values of 13.70GPa, 0.33, 13.30GPa, 32.32GPa, 5.12GPa, 0.07, and 0.022mD were obtained in shale; while 0.30, 10.94GPa, 0.30, 12.76GPa, 25.19GPa, 4.11GPa, 0.19, and 192.00mD were recorded in sand for Young's modulus, Poisson ratio, bulk modulus, uniaxial compressive strength, shear modulus, effective porosity, and permeability respectively. Mean pore pressures observed in sand and shale units are 13,683psi and 15,662psi while mean total vertical stress, maximum and minimum horizontal stresses recorded in the reservoirs are 28,392psi, 25,537psi and 20,781psi respectively. Comparative analysis of obtained rock mechanical and strength parameters with the principal stresses operating within the reservoirs show that the studied reservoirs and by extension reservoirs of this petroleum play are stable. - Abstract
Health disparities in childhood‐onset systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disproportionately impact marginalized populations. Socioeconomically patterned missing data can magnify existing health inequities by supporting inferences that may misrepresent populations of interest. Our objective was to assess missing data and subsequent health equity implications among participants with childhood‐onset SLE enrolled in a large pediatric rheumatology registry. We evaluated co‐missingness of 12 variables representing demographics, socioeconomic position, and clinical factors (e.g., disease‐related indices) using Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry childhood‐onset SLE enrollment data (2015–2022; n = 766). We performed logistic regression to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for missing disease‐related indices at enrollment (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index 2000 [SLEDAI‐2K] and/or Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/American College of Rheumatology Damage Index [SDI]) associated with data missingness. We used linear regression to assess the association between socioeconomic factors and SLEDAI‐2K at enrollment using 3 analytic methods for missing data: complete case analysis, multiple imputation, and nonprobabilistic bias analyses, with missing values imputed to represent extreme low or high disadvantage. On average, participants were missing 6.2% of data, with over 50% of participants missing at least 1 variable. Missing data correlated most closely with variables within data categories (i.e., demographic). Government‐assisted health insurance was associated with missing SLEDAI‐2K and/or SDI scores compared to private health insurance (OR 2.04 [95% CI 1.22, 3.41]). The different analytic approaches resulted in varying analytic sample sizes and fundamentally conflicting estimated associations. Our results support intentional evaluation of missing data to inform effect estimate interpretation and critical assessment of causal statements that might otherwise misrepresent health inequities.

Studies were carried out to evaluate the effect of topography on the heavy metal levels of raphia palm tree and oil palm tree wine produced within Awka South and North local government areas using standard analytical procedures and instrumentation. Soil and palm (oil palm tree and raphia palm tree) wine samples produced in the studied upland and lowland areas were wet digested and analyzed for the presence of Pb, Cu, Cd and Zn using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The lowland soil samples had 0.38±0.08, 6.27±0.40, 0.18±0.05 and 9.55±0.80µg/g as mean levels for Pb, Cu, Cd and Zn respectively. The upland soil samples had 0.70±0.04, 4.89±0.15, 0.06±0.02 and 7.07±0.22 µg/g as the mean levels for Pb, Cu, Cd and Zn respectively. The studied heavy metals were present in the soil sample areas in the following decreasing order; Zn > Cu >Pb >Cd.The mean range of Pb, Cu, Cd and Zn levels in the palm (oil palm tree and raphia palm tree) wine samples produced in the upland areas were 0.04- 0.06, 1.06- 1.91, 0.03- 0.05 and 2.86- 4.04 µg/g respectively. Pb was at toxic level in the oil palm tree wine samples produced in the upland areas. The mean range of Pb, Cu, Cd and Zn levels in the palm (oil palm tree and raphia palm tree) wine samples produced in the lowland areas were 0.05- 0.09, 1.95- 3.23, 0.04- 0.07 and 4.66- 6.51µg/g respectively. Pb, Cu and Cd were at toxic levels in the oil palm tree wine samples produced in the lowland areas. The palm wine samples produced in both the lowland and upland areas contained the investigated heavy metals at statistically significant levels. Because of the near daily consumption of palm wine produced from the oil palm and raphia trees as a drink of leisure by all categories of the people in the society, especially with high volume of production taking place in the lowland areas, it is important that human activities that supports the contamination of the soil with heavy metals, where these wines are produced are checkmated by government and host communities so as to limit the exposure to the heavy metals by palm wine consumers.

- Abstract
The goal was to characterize short‐term kidney status and describe variation in early care utilization in a multicenter cohort of patients with childhood‐onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE) and nephritis. We analyzed previously collected prospective data from North American patients with cSLE with kidney biopsy‐proven nephritis enrolled in the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) Registry from March 2017 through December 2019. We determined the proportion of patients with abnormal kidney status at the most recent registry visit and applied generalized linear mixed models to identify associated factors. We also calculated frequency of medication use, both during induction and ever recorded. We identified 222 patients with kidney biopsy–proven nephritis, with 64% class III/IV nephritis on initial biopsy. At the most recent registry visit at median (interquartile range) of 17 (8–29) months from initial kidney biopsy, 58 of 106 patients (55%) with available data had abnormal kidney status. This finding was associated with male sex (odds ratio [OR] 3.88, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.21–12.46) and age at cSLE diagnosis (OR 1.23, 95% CI 1.01–1.49). Patients with class IV nephritis were more likely than class III to receive cyclophosphamide and rituximab during induction. There was substantial variation in mycophenolate, cyclophosphamide, and rituximab ever use patterns across rheumatology centers. In this cohort with predominately class III/IV nephritis, male sex and older age at cSLE diagnosis were associated with abnormal short‐term kidney status. We also observed substantial variation in contemporary medication use for pediatric lupus nephritis between pediatric rheumatology centers. Additional studies are needed to better understand the impact of this variation on long‐term kidney outcomes.

- Abstract
Children with well‐controlled juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) frequently experience flares after medication discontinuation, but the outcomes of these flares have not been well described. The objective of this study was to characterize the rates and predictors of disease recapture among children with JIA who restarted medication to treat disease flare. Children with JIA who discontinued conventional synthetic or biologic disease‐modifying antirheumatic drugs for well‐controlled disease but subsequently experienced a flare and restarted medication were identified from the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) registry. The primary outcome was inactive disease (ID) (physician global assessment <1 and active joint count = 0) 6 months after flare. A total of 333 patients had complete data for ID at 6 months after flare. The recapture rate for the cohort was 55%, ranging from 47% (persistent oligoarthritis) to 69% (systemic arthritis) (P= 0.4). Approximately 67% of children achieved ID by 12 months. In the multivariable model, history and reinitiation of biologic drugs were associated with increased odds of successful recapture (odds ratio [OR] 4.79 [95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.22–18.78] and OR 2.74 [95% CI 1.62–4.63], respectively). Number of joints with limited range of motion was associated with decreased odds (OR 0.83 per 1 joint increase [95% CI 0.72–0.95]). Approximately half of JIA flares post‐discontinuation were recaptured within 6 months, but rates of recapture varied across JIA categories. These findings inform shared decision‐making for patients, families, and clinicians regarding the risks and benefits of medication discontinuation. Better understanding of biologic predictors of successful recapture in JIA are needed.

- Abstract
Keywords: GC-FID, Phytochemical, Endophytes, Secondary metabolites, Fermentation.

Unconventional hydrocarbon energy resources are non renewable energy resources whose major constituents are hydrogen and carbon. They have indistinct source rock- reservoir rocks-trap rocks characteristics/boundaries and unique exploitation technologies including mining and processing (surface and underground production using retorts for exploitation of oil shale and coking units for exploitation of bitumen; in-situ treatment and recovery (underground production using thermal treatment, chemical flooding and gas injection for exploitation of heavy oils in particular); and well production /underground production using vertical drilling, horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Only well production technology is applicable to conventional hydrocarbon energy resources, that is petroleum and natural gas exploitation. There are five classes of unconventional hydrocarbon energy resources including: coal bed methane (CBM), oil shale, shale gas/shale oil, heavy oil/bitumen, and natural gas hydrates. Worldwide, the recoverable methane from coal bed methane resources is about 2625 tcf. Similarly, the recoverable billions of barrels of oil from shale oil, heavy oil and bitumen, resources worldwide are 28626,443 and 651, respectively. Over 90% of these, that is, shale oil, heavy oil and bitumen are found in USA Venezuela and Canada respectively. The environmental problems associated with development of unconventional hydrocarbon energy resources include: surface/groundwater pollution; water depletion; air pollution and hazards of solid wastes from oil shale and bitumen mining/ processing. However, energy produced from unconventional hydrocarbon energy resources are similar to those produced from other (conventional) energy resources and can be equally used for various purposes including industrial, residential, transportation and commercial.

Background: In active female reproductive life, a cascade of physiological phenomena occurs during each menstrual cycle day. Aim and Objectives: The study was designed to determine the relationship between surging reproductive hormones and blood viscosity indices. Material and Methods: One hundred apparently healthy females between the ages of 18-25 years, with regular cycle length of 28 days were recruited for the study. Reproductive hormones [Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and progesterone], blood viscosity indices [Relative Plasma Viscosity (RPV), fibrinogen and hematocrit] and other blood related parameters were analyzed during days 12, 13, 14 and 21 of menstrual cycle. Results: Progesterone secretion reached nadir and zenith on days 12 and 21 respectively while peak LH level occurred on day 12. On days 12 and 21, RPV correlated with progesterone negatively while on days 12 and 13, fibrinogen was inversely related to progesterone. Hematocrit correlated positively with progesterone throughout the menstrual cycle days. Although fibrinogen and mean corpuscular volume were unchanged throughout the menstrual cycle days, RPV was high on day 13. Significant decreases in red and white blood cell counts and hematocrit were observed on day 21. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicated that blood viscosity indices were not influenced by surges in progesterone and luteinizing hormone.

- Abstract
Using dynamic cone penetrometer tester (DCPT) to determine the CBR and bearing pressure of subsurface soils in parts of Owerri, southeastern Nigeria were investigated in this study. Six (6) DCPT were measured to the depth of 6 m. The data obtained from field DCP test was plotted on the graph of penetration resistance (mm/blow) versus penetration depth (m); which revealed the soil profile of three layers with different penetration consistencies and resistances. The highest PR (mm/blow) recorded was 11.4 mm/blow and the lowest is 55.5 mm/blow. The layers encountered during the measurement ranges from loose, medium and dense soils, where the average thicknesses of loose layers ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 m, medium layers 0.5 to 3.0 m and dense layers 3.0 to 6 m. The average CBR values recorded at interval of 1m to 6 m depths are as follows: 5%, 8%, 12%, 15%, 16% and 16%. Accordingly, the averages bearing pressures calculated were 104.8 KN/m2, 165.5 KN/m2, 231.9 KN/m2, 283.3 KN/m2, 291.5 KN/m2 and 301.1 KN/m2. It shows significant increase in strength with depths.

Increasing structural failures and the collapse of engineering structures as well as poor seismic data acquisition in the study area is the result of poor understanding of the characteristics/attributes of the weathered layer. To have a deep understanding of the weathered layer of Ohaji-Egbema area, twelve(12) Uphole refraction seismic survey was conducted using Seistronix seismograph with 32 channels with the specific objective of characterizing the weathered layer. The UpShere software was used to pick the first break, process and interpret the data. The results of the refraction seismic survey conducted in the study area revealed spatial variations in the depths of the weathered layer which ranged from 4.8m to 25m with a value of 10.74m, while the weathered layer velocity ranged from 346m/s to 767m/s with a mean value of 447.58m/s. The results revealed two (2) zones with distinct high weathered layer depths of 25m and 17.7m respectively. These high weathered layer depths are believed to be associated with the incidences of foundation failure and the collapse of engineering structures which generally occurs if soil improvement mechanisms are not put in place. Also, reflection seismic data acquired from the study area especially waves passing through this uncompacted and loose layer will lead to a high volume of poor seismic data. It is therefore recommended that before erecting engineering structures within these zones with high weathered layer depth, special foundation treatment is required, for other zones with moderate weathering depths between 4.8m to 10.3m, a foundation depth of 10.5m should be ensured before erecting engineering structures while a 35m - 40m depth hole would be appropriate for better seismic reflection data quality. Mycotoxins are poisonous substances produced by fungi which contaminate agricultural commodities. Many foods and feeds can become contaminated with mycotoxins since they can form in commodities before harvest, during the time between harvesting and drying, and in storage. The food crops most often affected include maize, peanuts, sorghum, wheat, cocoa and tree nuts. Mycotoxins may also be carried over to animal products due to consumption of contaminated feed. Maize (Zea mays) and guinea corn (Sorghum bicolor) form a major staple of the study area and are high risk commodities for mycotoxigenic fungi and mycotoxin contamination. Multistage sampling technique was used to select the markets and store/warehouses used for this study; sample collection employed a simple random sampling method from different sampling points within designated areas. Identification of all fungal isolates was carried out using the modern polyphasic methodology for filamentous fungi identification. At the level of phenotypic approach, the mycotoxigenic fungi Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium were identified. These fungal isolates also produced the mycotoxins Aflatoxins B1 and B2, Fumonisin B1, Cyclopiazonic acid, Ochratoxin A and Ochratoxin alfa. Spectral analysis by MALDI-TOF MS identified the Aspergillus species as A. flavus, A. aculeatus, A. niger and A. tamarii. Work is currently on-going to complete fungal identification for all isolates down to species level using the genotypic approach. In view of the toxic effects of mycotoxin contamination, the isolation, identification and characterization of mycotoxigenic fungi from maize and guinea corn in the study area pose serious health risks for the human and animal population and also have implications for food safety and public health in Nigeria.
