The model of the formation of the Earth–Moon system during the compression and fragmentation of a gas–dust cloud (Galimov, 2011; Galimov and Krivtsov, 2012) suggests an unusual mechanism for the formation of the Earth's core. In particular, the model predicts that iron in the Earth's core should be enriched in the light isotope, and the Earth's mantle should be, conversely, enriched in the heavy isotope compared to the primary iron (of chondrites). The alternative (megaimpact) model does not allow for this phenomenon. This problem could be solved by comparing the iron isotope composition of the Earth's and Moon's mantles. The best representation of the iron isotope composition of the lunar mantle (δ57Fe) is given by the Fe isotope composition of lunar basalts with very low titanium content (VLT), just as the best representation of the isotope composition of iron in the Earth's mantle is given by the δ57Fe of the Earth's mid-oceanic ridge basalts (MORB). VLT basalts are relatively scarce on the lunar surface, unlike high-titanium basalts, which fill lunar lowlands. Their iron isotope composition has not yet been measured. We were the first to analyze the iron isotope composition of very low-titanium lunar basalts (VLT) in material delivered by the Luna 24 space mission. Our data indicate that the δ57Fe of Earth's mantle is higher than the δ57Fe of the bulk silicate Moon, which means (with a high degree of probability) that the Earth's core is enriched in the light iron isotope. Background: Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, filgotinib (FIL) and upadacitinib (UPA) have emerged as promising treatments for ulcerative colitis (UC). However, a comparative analysis of these JAK inhibitors, particularly in patients previously treated with tofacitinib (TOF), has not been performed., Aims: To compare the efficacy and safety of FIL and UPA in patients with UC, including those previously exposed to TOF., Methods: A multicentre retrospective cohort study was conducted to compare the effectiveness and safety of FIL and UPA in patients with UC whose treatment was initiated between March 2022 and December 2023. The co-primary outcomes were clinical response and remission at week 8. The secondary outcomes included treatment persistence and adverse events (AEs). Modified Poisson and Cox regression models with multivariable analysis to adjust for confounders and propensity score matching were conducted. Subgroup analyses stratified by previous exposure to TOF and biologics were also conducted., Results: In total, 168 patients (98 treated with FIL and 70 treated with UPA) were enrolled in this study, with a median follow-up period of 181 days. The clinical response/remission rates at week 8 were 55.1/46.9% for FIL and 71.4/65.7% for UPA, respectively. UPA was associated with significantly higher rates of clinical response (adjusted risk ratio [RR] 1.40 [95% confidence interval [CI], 1.09 to 1.80]) and clinical remission (adjusted RR 1.54 [95% CI, 1.16 to 2.05]) compared with FIL. This result was consistent across subgroup analyses based on previous exposure to TOF or biologics, except for bio-naive patients. There was no significant difference in the treatment persistence. AEs were more frequent with UPA (45.7%) than with FIL (24.5%) (p = 0.0049). Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between unhealthy lifestyle factors and the development of depressive symptoms with adjustment for sociodemographic characteristics in university students using health checkup data., Methods: Among information obtained from university student health checkups conducted in 2017 and 2019, we analyzed both the clinical data and responses to questionnaires. The subjects used for analysis were 3190 individuals (2382 men and 808 women, mean age 19.0 years) who had been free of depressive symptoms in the 2017 survey and were available for a 2-year follow-up. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2) was used as a self-rating scale for depressive symptoms. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the association between lifestyle factors (such as body mass index, self-rated health, whether breakfast was taken, degree of exercise, satisfaction with sleep, smoking, and alcohol drinking) in the 2017 survey and any development of depressive symptoms revealed in the 2019 survey, adjusting for sociodemographic variables and other lifestyle factors., Results: Multivariable logistic analysis showed that poor satisfaction with sleep (odds ratio [OR), 4.09; 95% confidence interval [CI), 1.96-8.53; p  < 0.01) and female gender (OR, 2.16; 95% CI, 1.01-4.60; p  = 0.05) were significantly associated with the development of depressive symptoms 2 years later., Conclusion: This study has revealed an association between poor satisfaction with sleep and the development of depressive symptoms. The efficacy of digital brief behavioural treatment for insomnia using a smartphone application in conjunction with light therapy was investigated in university students who had insomnia symptoms with late chronotypes. In this two-arm parallel randomized-controlled trial, participants with insomnia symptoms and late chronotypes were recruited between October and November 2023. The duration of the intervention program was 4 weeks. The smartphone application provides digital brief behavioural treatment for insomnia, including programs for advanced phases. The intervention group used blue-light-emitting diode glasses in the morning after waking up for 2-4 weeks. The primary outcome was a change in the Insomnia Severity Index during the study period. The Insomnia Severity Index was obtained weekly using a web questionnaire. Of the 28 students, 14 each were assigned to the intervention and control groups. The mean Insomnia Severity Index scores at baseline were 12.2 and 12.5; after 4 weeks, they declined to 7.2 and 10.6 in the intervention and control groups, respectively. Primary analysis using a linear mixed model showed a significant improvement in the temporal trends of the Insomnia Severity Index in the intervention group (p < 0.001). The scores on the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (p = 0.008) and RU-SATED (p = 0.005) significantly improved in the intervention group relative to the control group following the intervention. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is helpful for laypersons' decision-making. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of e-learning materials on the essential components of EBM for laypersons. We conducted a web-based, open-label, randomized controlled trial with laypersons in Japan aged ≥20 years who used the internet. Participants were randomly assigned to the intervention group with the e-learning material and the control group with only the 'Introduction' section of the same material. The primary and secondary outcomes were the self-created acquirement test scores (responding correctly with confidence) immediately after using the material and after 4 weeks. A multiple linear regression analysis was conducted. Of the 122 participants, 62 were randomly assigned to the intervention group and 59 to the control group; finally, 59 and 58, respectively, were included in the full analysis set. The mean (standard deviation) of the acquirement test score immediately after learning was 14.11 and (3.11) and 11.07 (3.88) in the intervention and control groups, respectively, indicating statistical significance (multivariable P < 0.001). The secondary long-term outcome was also statistically significant. The results showed that the e-learning material was effective for laypersons in acquiring the essential components of EBM. Continuing rehabilitation after hip fractures is recommended to improve physical function and quality of life. However, the long-term implementation status of postoperative rehabilitation is unclear. This study aims to investigate the implementation status of postoperative rehabilitation for older patients with hip fractures and the factors associated with continuing rehabilitation. A retrospective cohort study evaluated medical and long-term care insurance claims data of patients aged 75 years or older in Kyoto City, Japan, who underwent hip fracture surgeries from April 2013 to October 2018. We used logistic regression analysis to examine factors associated with six-month rehabilitation continuation. Of the 8,108 participants, 8,037 (99%) underwent rehabilitation the first month after surgery, but only 1,755 (22%) continued for six months. The following variables were positively associated with continuing rehabilitation for six months: males (adjusted odds ratio: 1.41 [95% confidence interval: 1.23-1.62]), an intermediate frailty risk (1.50 [1.24-1.82]), high frailty risk (2.09 [1.69-2.58]) estimated using the hospital frailty risk scores, and preoperative care dependency levels: support level 1 (1.69 [1.28-2.23]), support level 2 (2.34 [1.88-2.90]), care-need level 1 (2.04 [1.68-2.49]), care-need level 2 (2.42 [2.04-2.89]), care-need level 3 (1.45 [1.19-1.76]), care-need level 4 (1.40 [1.12-1.75]), and care-need level 5 (1.31 [0.93-1.85]). In contrast, dementia was cited as a disincentive (0.53 [0.45-0.59]). Less than 30% of older patients continued rehabilitation for six months after surgery. The research was aimed at providing new knowledge in the field of chemical characteristics of solid waste generated in the process of combustion of sewage sludge in fluidized bed furnaces. The research material consisted of disposed fluidized beds (DFB), sewage sludge ash (SSA) and air pollution control residues (APC) from three Polish installations for the thermal treatment of sewage sludge. Natural radionuclides as well as anthropogenic isotope 137 Cs were determined in the tested materials and the migration of a wide spectrum of trace elements to various waste fractions generated in the process of sewage sludge combustion was examined. It was observed that both radioisotopes and most of the trace elements determined accumulate in SSA and DFB, while the APC fraction contains a much smaller amount of them. The exceptions are mercury and selenium, whose volatile compounds migrate to the exhaust gas dedusting system and accumulate in the APC fraction (up to 40 mg/kg and 13 mg/kg, respectively). A potential threat from the 226 Ra isotope in SSA is identified in the context of the management of this waste in the production of building materials because the typical activity of 226 Ra in SSA collected from areas with very low Ra content in natural environment exceeds 1.5-6 times the activity of this isotope in conventional cement mixtures. A new monitoring and evaluation technique for cadmium (Cd) and inorganic arsenic (i-As) in rice was developed, where the isotope dilution (ID) method was applied in combination with high performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LC-ICP-MS), following heat-assisted extraction. Cadmium and i-As in a rice sample were extracted using the HNO 3 -H 2 O 2 extractant, and an appropriate amount of enriched 111 Cd was spiked into it. Cadmium and As species were measured simultaneously by LC-ICP-MS. The cadmium concentration was calculated from the isotope dilution analysis, and i-As was determined by the comparison (1 point calibration) method using additional 111 Cd as an internal standard. The proposed method provides accurate and precise determination of Cd based on the isotope dilution analysis. Moreover, it can be applied to a rapid screening test to find contaminated rice samples, by means of monitoring the intensity ratios of natural 111 Cd and i-As to the additional 111 Cd. The developed technique was applied to analyzing multiple rice reference materials, and the measurement results of Cd and i-As agreed with the certified values within the uncertainty range. It is noted that the grain size of rice samples does not affect the extraction data, when the rice sample is crushed into powder less than 850 μm. The proposed method was very useful for the monitoring and evaluation of Cd and i-As in rice as a precise analytical method as well as a screening method.

Objectives: Dual decline in gait speed and cognition has been found to have higher dementia risk than no decline or pure decline. However, evidence from the Asian population is lacking. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association of dual decline from age 65 to 70 years with late-life dementia in older Japanese adults with different personal characteristics., Methods: Data were collected from an age-specific cohort study conducted in 482 Japanese 65-year-old adults. We investigated participant demographics, medical histories, lifestyles, subjective gait speed, and cognition at both 64/65 and 70/71 years old, and confirmed dementia until age of 85 years. Cox proportion hazard models were used to estimate the risk of dementia, with adjustments for covariates, and death was treated as a competing risk., Results: After a mean follow-up period of 12.5-years, 111 participants developed dementia. Older adults with dual decline are more likely to have hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and smoking habits. And we found that dual decline in gait speed and domain-specific cognition was associated with a higher risk of dementia compared with no decline in most cognitive tests, with the highest risk observed for gait speed combined with memory (sub-distribution hazard ratio:3.89, 95 %, confidence intervals: [1.68-9.01]). However, significant differences only existed in men after stratification by sex., Conclusions: A dual decline in subjective gait speed and cognition may serve as a robust predictor of dementia over a decade prior to its onset, particularly in men.
