Various different software tools are used when planning and executing spacecraft operations. European Space Agency’s Cluster II mission utilizes a web portal called “Cluster Web” for scheduling and overviewing mission events. A new version of this tool called “OpsWeb” is being developed using modern web techologies to improve usability and to make the tool adaptable to other missions in the future. A comparative user experience evaluation was done between Cluster Web and OpsWeb to find out how usability was improved. The results indicate that OpsWeb allows users to complete tasks faster and with less effort than Cluster Web, although some issues were discovered. Users also reported that they had a more positive experience using OpsWeb than Cluster Web. Feedback gathered from the evaluation includes some ideas for future development of OpsWeb. Avaruusoperaatioiden suunnittelussa ja toteutuksessa hyödynnetään paljon erilaisia ohjelmistoja. Euroopan Avaruusjärjestön Cluster II- lennossa käytetään Cluster Web -nimistä web-portaalia tapahtumien ajoittamiseen ja antamaan yleiskatsaus lennon tapahtumista. Tästä työkalusta kehitetään uutta OpsWeb-nimistä versiota moderneja web-teknologioita hyödyntäen. Tarkoituksena on parantaa työkalun käytettävyyttä ja mahdollistaa sen hyödyntäminen myös muiden lentojen yhteydessä. Cluster Webin ja OpsWebin välillä tehtiin vertaileva käyttökokemuksen evaluointi jolla pyrittiin selvittämään millä tavoin käytettävyys parantui. Tuloksista nähdään että käyttäjät pystyvät suorittamaan tiettyjä tehtäviä OpsWebillä nopeammin ja helpommin kuin Cluster Webillä, joskin joitain ongelmia havaittiin. Käyttäjät myös ilmaisivat että heidän käyttökokemuksensa oli positiivisempi OpsWebillä kuin Cluster Webillä. Evaluoinnin yhteydessä kerätty palaute antaa joitain ideoita OpsWebin jatkokehitykseen.

Tarkastelen pro gradu -tutkielmassani suomalaisten lasten työnimiä ja nimenantotarinoita. Aineistonani on 60 vuosina 2010–2015 syntyneiden lasten nimenantotarinaa. Käytän tutkielmassani käsitettä työnimi viittaamaan nimeen, jota lapsesta on käytetty ennen syntymää tai ennen virallisen nimen antamista. Lasten työnimet kuuluvat epäviralliseen henkilönnimistöön. Nimenantotarina-käsite puolestaan viittaa siihen tapahtumien kerronnalliseen ketjuun, jossa erinäisten vaiheiden kautta lapsen mahdollisesti jo raskausaikana saamasta työnimestä päädytään lapsen lopulliseen, viralliseen nimeen. Nimenantotarina-käsite on oma käsitteeni, jonka avulla on ollut helpompi hahmottaa, mistä kaikista seikoista ja tapahtumista nimeämisperusteet muodostuvat. Tutkimukseni tavoitteena on selvittää, millaisista vaiheista nimeämisprosessi koostuu sellaisilla lapsilla, joilla on ollut työnimi. Tarkastelen samalla työnimen elinkaarta nimeämisprosessissa. Selvitän, milloin työnimi tyypillisesti annetaan ja kuinka pitkäaikaista sen käyttö on. Tutkimuksessani sivutaan myös virallisen nimen valinnan syitä ja ajankohtia, vaikka pääpaino onkin lasten työnimissä. Lisäksi mielenkiintoni kohdistuu työnimen antamisen ja käyttämisen funktioihin. Vertailen myös kansanuskomuksiin pohjautuvien lasten väliaikaisten nimien sekä nykyisten työnimien antamisen ja käyttämisen funktioita. Lisäksi selvitän, millaisia työnimiä 2010-luvun lapsille annetaan ja ketkä nimiä antavat ja käyttävät. Olen kiinnostunut myös työnimen vaikutuksesta lapsen viralliseen nimeen. Analyysin aineistoesimerkeissä yhdistyvät narratiivisen analyysin juonenkulkuun ja ajankohtaan painottuva näkökulma sekä sosio-onomastiselle analyysille tyypillinen nimien nimeämisperusteiden huomioiminen. Lisäksi luokittelen työnimet perinteisen sosio-onomastisen metodin avulla nimenmuodostusperusteiden mukaisiin luokkiin. Narratiivinen tutkimusote puolestaan näkyy sekä tutkimukseni tarina-aineistossa että aineiston analyysimenetelmissä. Tutkimukseni mukaan lasten työnimiperinne 2010-luvun Suomessa on vahva. Tälle luo vankan pohjan virallisen nimen salaamisen perinteemme. Lyhimmillään nimeämisprosessi kestää vain muutamia viikkoja tai kuukausia, tyypillisimmillään noin vuoden ja pisimmillään jopa vuosia tai vuosikymmeniä. Työnimen elinkaari saattaa jatkua vielä vuosia virallisen nimen antamisen jälkeenkin lapsen lempinimenä. 30 % työnimistä siirtyy lapsen lempinimeksi. Työnimiä myös suunnitellaan usein jo ennen raskautta. Työnimi annetaan, koska lapsi halutaan mahdollisimman varhain erottaa kaikista muista sikiöistä ja vauvoista. Työnimi identifioi lapsen jo varhain vanhemmilleen ja lähipiirilleen. Kun virallisen nimen antaminen on varhaisempina aikoina identifioinut lapsen ja tuonut tämän osaksi sukua ja kyläyhteisöä, nykyinen työnimi tekee saman jo huomattavasti aiemmin. Lapsen sosiaalinen syntymä tapahtuu nykyään usein ennen fyysistä syntymää. Lapsen työnimeen sisältyy paljon toiveita ja odotuksia tulevasta lapsesta. Näitä on helpompi kohdistaa lapseen, jota voi kutsua nimeltä. Useat vanhemmat myös ajattelevat, että lapsella kuuluu olla työnimi. Tämä osoittaa, että työnimet ovat vakiinnuttaneet paikkansa osana suomalaista 2010-luvun nimeämisprosessia ja nimenantokulttuuria. Myös se, että nimenantajat osaavat nimetä tyypillisiä työnimiä, on osoitus työnimiperinteestä. Nimenantajien kolme yleisintä käsitystä tyypillisestä työnimestä on, että työnimi a) kuvaa jotenkin sikiön pientä kokoa, muotoa tai kehitysvaihetta, b) on hellittelevä, hassutteleva tai hauska ja c) on viralliseksi nimeksi soveltuva nimi. Eräs prototyyppisenä pidetty työnimi on Masuasukki. Työnimen tavallisuus saattaa kuitenkin sulkea sen pois lapsen työnimivaihtoehdoista. Harvinaisilla ja uniikeilla nimillä nimenantajat haluavat korostaa lapsen yksilöllisyyttä ja ainutlaatuisuutta. Nykyisten työnimien ja kansanuskon ajan lasten väliaikaisten nimien funktiot eroavat hyvin paljon toisistaan. Lasten väliaikaisten nimien tärkein funktio on ollut lapsen suojeleminen pahoiksi uskotuilta voimilta. Nykyisiin työnimiin ei liity tämän kaltaisia uskomuksia. Kun 2010-luvun lasten työnimet luokitellaan niiden nimenmuodostusperusteiden mukaan, yleisin nimenmuodostusperuste on työnimen perustuminen nimeen eli propriin (62 %). Viralliseksi nimeksi sellaisenaan soveltuvia nimiä nimenantotarinoissa on 35 %. Aineistoni viralliseksi nimeksi soveltuvista nimistä valtaosa (71 %) on miehen nimiä. Toiseksi suurimman ryhmän propreihin perustuvista nimistä muodostavat tytön ja pojan nimen sisältävät nimet (5 %). Appellatiiveihin perustuvia työnimiä on 38 %. Suurimpia ryhmiä appellatiiveihin perustuvista nimistä ovat lapseen liittyvät nimet (13 %), eläin- ja kasvikuntaan liittyvät nimet (8 %) ja deskriptiiviset nimet (8 %). Työnimi siirtyy sellaisenaan tai varioituna viralliseen nimeen 20 % tarinoista. Työnimiä antavat tyypillisimmin lapsen lähipiiriin kuuluvat henkilöt. Kaikista tyypillisimmin nimenantaja on lapsen äiti (30 %), lapsen isä (15 %) tai vanhemmat yhdessä (37 %). Työnimiä käyttävät pääasiassa lapsen ydinperheeseen ja lähisukuun kuuluvat henkilöt. Työnimeä käytetään pelkästään ydinperheen jäsenten kesken 36,7 % tarinoista. Vain ydinperheen ja lähisuvun käytössä työnimi on 26,6 % tarinoista.

Tässä tutkielmassa tehdään yleiskatsaus puhujantunnistukseen ja testataan erilaisten menetelmien toimivuutta. Aluksi käydään lävitse taustaa puhujantunnistuksen perusteista ja puheäänen ominaisuuksista, sitten esitellään tarkemmin puhujantunnistusjärjestelmän osia, kuten esikäsittelyä, äänen muuttamista kertoimiksi ja lopulta varsinaista tunnistusprosessia. Pääpaino on vektorikvantisoinnilla ja Gaussin sekoitemallilla, muita menetelmiä käydään läpi lyhyemmin. Puhujantunnistusta ja ­varmennusta testattiin sekä vektorikvantisoinnilla että Gaussin sekoitemallilla erilaisilla kertoimilla ja koodivektoreiden/sekoitekomponenttien määrillä. Kertoimina käytettiin MFCC­ ja siitä johdettuja delta­ sekä delta­delta­kertoimia. Lisäksi testattiin, miten kertoimien normalisointi, koulutusdatan määrä ja hiljaisten hetkien poisto lausahduksista vaikuttaa päätöksentekoon. Vektorikvantisoinnissa tutkittiin myös koodivektorien painotuksen vaikutusta. Testeissä havaittiin, että vektorikvantisoinnilla päästään painotuksen avulla varsin lähelle Gaussin sekoitemallin tuloksia noin puolta lyhyemmässä ajassa. Koodivektorien määrä lisäämällä päästiin tunnistuksessa käytännössä samoihin tuloksiin kuin Gaussin sekoitemallilla, mutta tällöin suoritusaika oli pidempi kuin Gaussin sekoitemallilla. Varmennustesteissä GMM oli lähes poikkeuksetta parempi kuin VQ. Universaalin taustamallin ja delta­kertoimien käytön havaittiin parantavan varmennuksen tarkkuutta. Lisäksi hiljaisten hetkien poistaminen lausahduksista todettiin johtavan tarkempiin tuloksiin. This thesis does an overview on speaker recognition, and then some methods are tested in practice. First some background on speaker recognition and the features of voice are overviewed, and afterwards different parts of a speech recognition system are reviewed, such as pre­processing the sound, calculating coefficients and finally the actual recognition process. The main focus is on vector quantization and Gaussian mixture model, some other popular methods are explained more shortly. Speaker recognition and verification were tested using vector quantization and a Gaussian mixture model with several different coefficients and code vector and mixture component quantities. MFCC as well as MFCC derived delta and delta­delta coefficients were used in the tests. The effect of the quantity of training data, coefficient normalization and speech sample silence removal were tested. Code vector weighting was also tested with vector quantization. The test results showed that vector quantization with weighting can almost reach the accuracy of Gaussian mixture model, while taking about half of the time to process. Adding more code vectors resulted in even closer results compared to Gaussian mixture model, but then VQ would be slower than GMM. In speaker verification, GMM was almost invariably better than VQ. Universal background model and delta coefficients were found to improve the results in speaker verification. Additionally, speech sample silence removal was found to lead to more accurate results.

OrBiTo is a new European project within the IMI programme in the area of oral biopharmaceutics tools that includes world leading scientists from nine European universities, one regulatory agency, one non-profit research organization, four SMEs together with scientists from twelve pharmaceutical companies. The OrBiTo project will address key gaps in our knowledge of gastrointestinal (GI) drug absorption and deliver a framework for rational application of predictive biopharmaceutics tools for oral drug delivery. This will be achieved through novel prospective investigations to define new methodologies as well as refinement of existing tools. Extensive validation of novel and existing biopharmaceutics tools will be performed using active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), formulations and supporting datasets from industry partners. A combination of high quality in vitro or in silico characterizations of API and formulations will be integrated into physiologically based in silico biopharmaceutics models capturing the full complexity of GI drug absorption. This approach gives an unparalleled opportunity to initiate a transformational change in industrial research and development to achieve model-based pharmaceutical product development in accordance with the Quality by Design concept. Benefits include an accelerated and more efficient drug candidate selection, formulation development process, particularly for challenging projects such as low solubility molecules (BCS II and IV), enhanced and modified-release formulations, as well as allowing optimization of clinical product performance for patient benefit. In addition, the tools emerging from OrBiTo are expected to significantly reduce demand for animal experiments in the future as well as reducing the number of human bioequivalence studies required to bridge formulations after manufacturing or composition changes. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. In this 12-month RCT, we examined whether aerobic impact exercise training (3x/week) could facilitate breast cancer survivors' recovery by enhancing their bone structural strength, physical performance and body composition. After the adjuvant chemo- and/ or radiotherapy, 86 patients were randomly assigned into the training or control group. Structural bone traits were assessed with pQCT at the tibia and with DXA at the femoral neck. Agility (figure-8 running), jump force and power (force platform), grip strength and cardiovascular fitness (2-km walk test) were also assessed. Training effects on outcome variables were estimated by two-way factorial ANCOVA using the study group and menopausal status as fixed factors. Bone structural strength was better maintained among the trainees. At the femoral neck, there was a small but significant 2% training effect in the bone mass distribution (p=0.05). At the tibial diaphysis, slight 1% to 2% training effects (p=0.03) in total cross-sectional area and bone structural strength were observed (p=0.03) among the postmenopausal trainees. Also, 3% to 4% training effects were observed in the figure-8 running time (p=0.03) and grip strength (p=0.01). In conclusion, vigorous aerobic impact exercise training has potential to maintain bone structural strength and improve physical performance among breast cancer survivors.

The Second Generation Locator for Urban Search and Rescue Operations (SGL for USaR) is an EC-funded project solving critical problems following massive destruction and large scale structural collapses in urban locations. One part of the project is the development of a standalone portable first responder device (FIRST) for the operational rescue teams. It will combine field chemical analysis, spectral analysis with audio and video analysis capabilities for the early location of entrapped people, the detection of buried people and air quality monitoring in confined spaces for ensuring safety and security of first responders. Hardware selected for the optical sensors of the FIRST-device will be responsible for the fluorescence, visible (VIS), near infrared (NIR) and long wavelength infrared (LWIR) range detection as well as supplying required illumination. FIRST shall identify images of fires or other events, damage patterns, temperature of living humans, motion of body parts and human postures. The device requirements were based on the operational input and feedback received from European rescue teams - partners within the project (final product end-users). Some of the critical properties for the selected components were compact physical size, low power consumption, refresh rate and adequate resolution of the sensor image data. Although in Finland the incidence of maternal and neonatal mortality in labor is very low, labor carries some risks. This study focused on two major complications in labor: fetal asphyxia and maternal hemorrhage. The roles of fetal electrocardiographic ST-analysis (STAN) and pelvic artery embolization in the prevention and management of these complications were investigated. Intrapartum fetal monitoring aims at a timely detection of fetal hypoxemia. When non-selected parturients were randomly assigned to be monitored during labor either by STAN or conventional cardiotocography, no differences between the groups were detected in terms of neonatal outcome and operative delivery rates. Only the incidence of fetal blood sampling was lower in the STAN group. In the interpretation of the STAN tracings according to the guideline matrix provided by the STAN manufacturer, the interobserver agreement was moderate; in terms of clinical decision -making as to whether to intervene in the labor, this agreement varied from moderate to good among STAN-trained obstetricians. The aim of prophylactic pelvic artery occlusion balloon catheterization, with or without embolization, is to reduce hemorrhage in elective cesarean operations in patients with placenta accreta. Furthermore, pelvic arterial embolization may be performed post partum if bleeding continues after cesarean hysterectomy, or may serve as an alternative to hysterectomy. In the present study, pelvic artery catheterization and embolization did not reduce blood loss during cesarean delivery, nor did it decrease the need to perform hysterectomy in patients with placenta accreta. In the management of massive postpartum hemorrhage, pelvic artery embolization was most successful in patients with uterine atony, with a success rate of 75% in achieving hemostasis. However, the angiographic method included risk of complications, the most hazardous being thromboembolic complications. To conclude, STAN does not provide improvement in intrapartum fetal monitoring when compared to cardiotocography, but the need for fetal blood sampling is reduced. This may relate to the fact that subjective interpretation of STAN data is moderate at best. Prophylactic catheterization and embolization of pelvic arteries does not improve the surgical outcome of patients with placenta accreta. In the management of postpartum hemorrhage, pelvic artery embolization should be considered, especially in cases with uterine atony.
