We propose a chiral random matrix model which properly incorporates the flavor-number dependence of the phase transition owing to the \UA(1) anomaly term. At finite temperature, the model shows the second-order phase transition with mean-field critical exponents for two massless flavors, while in the case of three massless flavors the transition turns out to be of the first order. The topological susceptibility satisfies the anomalous \UA(1) Ward identity and decreases gradually with the temperature increased., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

We study the effect of topology for a random matrix model of QCD at nonzero imaginary chemical potential or nonzero temperature. Non-universal fluctuations of Dirac eigenvalues lead to normalization factors that contribute to the $\theta$-dependence of the partition function. These normalization factors have to be canceled in order to reproduce the $\theta$-dependence of the QCD partition function. The reason for this behavior is that the topological domain of the Dirac spectrum (the region of the Dirac spectrum that is sensitive to the topological charge) extends beyond the microscopic domain at nonzero imaginary chemical potential or temperature. Algorithmic progress in recent years made it possible to simulate QCD with Nf=2 flavours of O(a)-improved Wilson fermions at very light quark masses. We present the current results for baryon spectrum states, the nucleon axial coupling and the lowest moment of unpolarised nucleon structure functions. The nucleon electromagnetic form factors continue to be of major interest for experimentalists and phenomenologists alike. They provide important insights into the structure of nuclear matter. For a range of interesting momenta they can be calculated on the lattice. The limiting factor continues to be the value of the pion mass. The internal structure of hadrons is important for a variety of topics, including the hadron form factors, proton spin and spin asymmetry in polarized proton scattering. For a systematic study generalized parton distributions (GPDs) encode important information on hadron structure in the entire impact parameter space. We report on a computation of nucleon GPDs based on simulations with two dynamical non-perturbatively improved Wilson quarks with pion masses down to 350MeV. A novel laser molecular beam epitaxy (LMBE) system for the fabrication of atomically controlled oxides superlattices and an x-ray diffractometer that measures spatially-resolved x-ray diffraction spectra have been developed based on the concept of combinatorial methodology. The LMBE chamber has two moving masks, an automated target stage, a substrate heating laser, and an in-situ scanning reflection high-energy electron diffraction system. The x-ray diffractometer with a curved monochromator and two-dimensional detector is used for rapid concurrent x-ray diffraction intensity mapping with the two axes of the detector corresponding to the diffraction angle and a position in the sample., Comment: 19pages, 9figures

We study the soft mode along the critical line in the phase diagram with the tricritical point, using the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. At the critical point with finite quark mass, the ordering density becomes a linear combination of the scalar, quark number and energy densities, and their susceptibilities diverge with the same exponent. Based on the conservation law, it is argued that the divergent susuceptibility of a conserved density must be accompanied by a critically--slowing hydrodynamic mode. The shift of the soft mode from the sigma meson to the hydrodynamic mode occurs at the tricritical point on the critical line., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures. Assuming a tricritical point of the two--flavor QCD in the space of temperature, baryon number chemical potential and quark mass, we study the change of the associated soft mode along the critical line within the Ginzburg--Landau approach and the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The ordering density along the chiral critical line is the scalar density whereas a linear combination of the scalar, baryon number and energy densities becomes the proper ordering density along the critical line with finite quark masses. It is shown that the critical eigenmode shifts from the sigma--like fluctuation of the scalar density to a hydrodynamic mode at the tricritical point, where we have two ordering densities, the scalar density and a linear combination of the baryon number and energy densities. We argue that appearance of the critical eigenmode with hydrodynamic character is a logical consequence of divergent susceptibilities of the conserved densities., Comment: 22 pages, 12 figures, references added, minor corrections

At the critical end point in QCD phase diagram, the scalar, vector and entropy susceptibilities are known to diverge. We show a possibility that a color ferromagnetic state exists in SU(3) gauge theory of quark matter with two flavors. Although the state involves three types of unstable modes of gluons, all of these modes are stabilized by forming a quantum Hall state of one of the modes. We also show that at large chemical potential, a color superconducting state (2SC) appears even in the ferromagnetic state. This is because Meissner effect by condensed anti-triplet quark pairs does not work on the magnetic field in the ferromagnetic state., Comment: 11 pages
