Purpose To report a case of a full-thickness macular hole (MH) that developed after cryotherapy and intravitreal bevacizumab injection (IVB) to treat a retinal vasoproliferative tumor (VPT). Methods Case report of a man with a retinal VPT. Results A 64-year-old Japanese man complained of blurred vision in his right eye. At the initial examination, his best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/25 in the right eye and 20/20 in the left eye. Ophthalmoscopy showed a VPT in the lower peripheral retina of the right eye. An exudative retinal detachment and hard exudates were seen around the tumor. Cryotherapy and intravitreal injections of bevacizumab (IVB) were performed. Although the exudative changes were reduced, a MH developed two months after the initial IVB treatment. He underwent 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy, and the MH was closed. His postoperative BCVA was 20/32 and the VPT was inactive. The reduced BCVA was due to damage of the outer retinal layers. Conclusion Our findings indicate that cryotherapy and IVB are effective treatments for VPT although the possibility of developing a MH should be considered.

Importance The Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) demonstrated that a systolic blood pressure (BP) target less than 120 mm Hg was superior to less than 140 mm Hg for preventing vascular events. This trial excluded patients with prior stroke; therefore, the ideal BP target for secondary stroke prevention remains unknown. Objective To assess whether intensive BP control would achieve fewer recurrent strokes vs standard BP control. Design, Setting, and Participants Randomized clinical trial (RCT) of standard vs intensive BP control in an intent-to-treat population of patients who had a history of stroke. Patients were enrolled between October 20, 2010, and December 7, 2016. For an updated meta-analysis, PubMed and the Cochrane Central Library database were searched through September 30, 2018, using the Medical Subject Headings and relevant search terms forcerebrovascular diseaseand forintensive BP lowering. This was a multicenter trial that included 140 hospitals in Japan; 1514 patients who had a history of stroke within the previous 3 years were approached, but 234 refused to give informed consent. Interventions In total, 1280 patients were randomized 1:1 to BP control to less than 140/90 mm Hg (standard treatment) (n = 640) or to less than 120/80 mm Hg (intensive treatment) (n = 640). However, 17 patients never received intervention; therefore, 1263 patients assigned to standard treatment (n = 630) or intensive treatment (n = 633) were analyzed. Main Outcomes and Measures The primary outcome was stroke recurrence. Results The trial was stopped early. Among 1263 analyzed patients (mean [SD] age, 67.2 [8.8] years; 69.4% male), 1257 of 1263 (99.5%) completed a mean (SD) of 3.9 (1.5) years of follow-up. The mean BP at baseline was 145.4/83.6 mm Hg. Throughout the overall follow-up period, the mean BP was 133.2/77.7 (95% CI, 132.5-133.8/77.1-78.4) mm Hg in the standard group and 126.7/77.4 (95% CI, 125.9-127.2/73.8-75.0) mm Hg in the intensive group. Ninety-one first recurrent strokes occurred. Nonsignificant rate reductions were seen for recurrent stroke in the intensive group compared with the standard group (hazard ratio [HR], 0.73; 95% CI, 0.49-1.11;P = .15). When this finding was pooled in 3 previous relevant RCTs in a meta-analysis, the risk ratio favored intensive BP control (relative risk, 0.78; 95% CI, 0.64-0.96;P = .02; absolute risk difference, −1.5%; 95% CI, −2.6% to −0.4%; number needed to treat, 67; 95% CI, 39-250). Conclusions and Relevance Intensive BP lowering tended to reduce stroke recurrence. The updated meta-analysis supports a target BP less than 130/80 mm Hg in secondary stroke prevention. The purpose of this study was to determine whether these morphological changes will alter the stereoacuity.Setting: This was a non-randomized, retrospective study conducted on patients who underwent MH surgery at the Matsumoto Dental University Hospital, Nagano, Japan.Methods: Forty patients (22 women, 18 men) who underwent MH surgery with ILM peeling for a unilateral MH were studied. At > 6 months after the PPV, the stereoacuity was measured with the Titmus stereotest (TST) and the TNO stereotest (TNO). The relationship between the stereoacuity and the age, MH size, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), foveal retinal thickness, and amount of nasal shift of the retina was determined.Results: The mean postoperative BCVA was − 0.05 ± 0.11 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) units. The percentage of cases with good stereoacuity of ≤ 100 sec of arc was 87.5% with the TST and ≤ 240” was 90% with the TNO test. A better stereoacuity was significantly correlated with a younger age (r = 0.36, P < 0.05; with TNO), smaller MH (r = 0.51, P < 0.001, with TST), better postoperative BCVA (r = 0.43 P < 0.01 with TST; r = 0.49, P < 0.01 with TNO), but not with the parafoveal retinal thickness or degree of nasal shift.Conclusion: The postoperative stereopsis is relatively good in patients with better postoperative BCVA after MH surgery with ILM peeling, even though foveal morphological changes had occurred.Keywords: idiopathic macular hole, internal limiting membrane, optical coherence tomography, stereopsis, vitrectomy

The system which generated a three-dimensional molding thing using 3D printer by the fabric three dimensions model data which I made by fabric three dimensions modeling system was built. The fabric expansion model printed out can be used for education and research and development. The fabric structure is not confirmed without a loupe or a microscope spreading with the normal fabric, and using means to observe. However, the fabric expansion model printed out does not use special means, and structure is confirmed in vision by the naked eye.

Zizania latifolia (wild rice) is native to Eastern and Southeastern Asia. The fungus Ustilago esculenta penetrates this aquatic perennial grass. Makomotake refers to penetration of the Zizania latifolia shoot by Ustilago esculenta. Recent studies demonstrated that Zizania latifolia extracts exhibit diverse biological activities, such as anti–oxidant effects. The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti–inflammatory effect of Makomotake on endotoxin–induced uveitis (EIU) in mice. After the daily oral administration of Makomotake for 5 days, EIU was induced by the injection of a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) into the footpad of mice. At 24 hours–after injection, the eyes were enucleated and cells infiltrating the anterior chamber and vitreous cavity were counted histologically. Makomotake administration significantly reduced the total number of infiltrating cells. In addition, Makomotake suppressed the production of interleukin (IL)–1 β and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)–α in murine macrophages induced by LPS. Our findings show that Makomotake can be used as an anti–inflammatory agent against EIU, and that it may be useful for the treatment of acute uveitis.

We started an action to plan promotion of the local industry in 2017, in cooperation with local public entity and trade group. This cooperation utilizes the museum "textile material center" of the fashion material in Hashima-shi in the education base. As one of the actions, we used material of the textile material center for education of the textile materials science. In the training in the textile material center, we let students experienced it by touching the material directly, and they understand the feel and the characteristic of the textile material. Furthermore, we let a student understand a production of warp knit process by observing the knitting factory. As a result, improvement of the interest of the student was confirmed for textile materials science.

The software which converted from three dimensional model of woven fabric structures to STL file was developed. STL file is a general-purpose three-dimensional CAD data format and loaded by CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) system. The three dimensional modeler of woven fabric structures was applied as preprocessor of CAE for analysis of woven fabric properties. The analysis by FEM (Finite Eement Method) and MPS (Moving Particle Simulation) using three dimensional model of woven fabric structures was enabled by applying this software. This analysis allows the various physical properties designs of woven fabric.

Retinal microvascular abnormalities are important clinical markers of hypertension and arteriosclerosis, but retinal microvascular changes can be observed in older individuals without hypertension. In this study, our goal is to elucidate the effects of aging on fundus vessels in the retinal photograph. We analyzed retinal vessels of 161 healthy volunteers (49.5 +/- 18.7 years, range 18-87) using in-house computer-aided measurement system to measure areas and diameters of all retinal vessels across the entire area of a retinal photograph. The vessels were segmented according to color, and then their area, size, length and thickness were measured by image processing. We also analyzed the correlation between total blood vessel area, age and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP). The decrease in total blood vessel area was dependent on both age and MABP. Moreover, decrease in blood vessel area was also correlated with age for the normotensive group. Using a technique of the three-dimensional modeling, a method to predict a shrinkage rate of the fabric from a shrinkage rate of the yarn was considered. The predictive method calculates the length of the yarn from a three-dimensional model of the fabric and finds a shrinkage rate of the fabric by the Newton method. It enabled the fabric shrinkage rate prediction software that it developed to predict a shrinkage rate of the fabric from a shrinkage rate of the yarn..

Simulation software of the warp twine supply with lower hook movement on net machine was developed. On software, twine is modeled by spring-beads model. The movement of twine is calculated by the differential equation of the exercise equation. It enabled this software to predict the load to lower hook from dimensions of movement of net machine and stress-strain curve of twine. By the simulation using the stainless steel wire, it was demanded that it became the load bigger than a polyester twine. This calculation result accorded with the low productivity of the net using the stainless steel wire.

Kouichi Ohta, Atsuko Sato Emi FukuiDepartment of Ophthalmology, Matsumoto Dental University, Shiojiri, Nagano, JapanPurpose: To describe the morphology of the retina at the convalescent stage of acute zonal occult outer retinopathy (AZOOR) from images obtained by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).Methods: The visual fields, electroretinograms (ERGs), and OCT images were reviewed in two women aged 24 and 33 years. The patients were followed for one and four years, respectively.Results: In both cases, the anterior and posterior segments were almost normal, although both patients had a sudden unilateral vision decrease and photopsia. Goldmann perimetry revealed enlarged blind spots and scotomas. The ERGs were reduced in both cases. SD-OCT showed that the junction of the inner and outer segment, the IS/OS line, of the photoreceptors was irregular or lost in the affected retinas. The retina in these areas was thinner due to a decrease in the thickness of both the outer nuclear layer (ONL) and inner nuclear layer (INL) in Case 2. Conclusions: The decrease in retinal thickness at the convalescent stage of AZOOR is most likely due to a shortening of not only the photoreceptors and ONL but also to a thinning of the INL in a severe case.Keywords: AZOOR, SD-OCT, IS/OS, ONL
