Research Question: Has IFRS adoption improved the value-relevance of financial statement figures in Nigeria? Motivation: The informativeness of the reported earnings, book values, and cash flows depends on the accounting standards used in preparing the financial statements. IFRS is a global set of accounting standards that tries to improve the relevance of accounting figures by recommending more realistic measurement and recognition criteria and increasing the level of disclosure of relevant information. Idea: The value relevance of accounting figures in predicting stock prices is widely acknowledged. However, this study tests whether IFRS adoption significantly improves this value-relevance by increasing the degree of correlation between accounting figures and stock prices in Nigeria. Data: The data were collected from the Bloomberg market data terminal and Datastream financial database. A sample of 85 listed companies was selected. The sample period was from 2007 to 2016. Tools: The study applied the Ohlson model (using fixed and random-effect models) along with the Driscoll-Kraay standard errors (DKSE) and Panel-corrected standard errors (PCSE) to anticipate autocorrelation, heteroscedasticity, and cross-sectional dependence biases. The Ohlson model was estimated separately for the pre- and post-IFRS adoption periods to detect changes in value relevance. The interactions of the IFRS dummy with earnings, book values, and cash flows were also estimated separately to detect the significance of IFRS interaction with the accounting figures. Findings: The results showed an overall increase in value-relevance by comparing adjusted R2s across the pre- and post-IFRS adoption period. Also, the interactions of IFRS with earnings, book value, and cash flows were all significant. Contribution: The study contributes to the existing literature by including cash flow in the value-relevance test in Nigeria and by applying estimation techniques that control for possible estimation biases. The authors recommend that investors pay more attention to these accounting figures under the IFRS regime when making investment decisions.

The objective of this study is to test the influence of value relevance ofaccounting information (EPS, BV, CF, ROE) on the market share value of non-financial sector of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) listed firms in the Pre & Post IFRS implementation period and transition regime. The study analyses the effectiveness of the quality measures of accounting information for the future prediction of market stock price and for investors to make better decisions for future investment. The targeted population of this study is the non-financial sector of PSX. The targeted sample is based on 41 non-financial public listed companies of PSX. The sample is based on those reported companies whose data is consecutively available for 18 years from 2001 to 2018. This study period has been chosen because this period covers the Pre and Post IFRS application period of Pakistan’s firms. The panel data and Ohlson (1995) price model are applied in the study. The findings conclude that the R-Square value of GLS analysis for post IFRS and Transition period is higher than pre-IFRS. It indicates that the Post IFRS application and transition regime periods indicate the quality measure of value relevant accounting information than the Pre IFRS application period. These both Post IFRS application period and transition regime show more valuable accounting measures for listed non-financial firms of PSX. This study concluded that the concurrent period of IFRS standards for non-financial listed firms impacts the value relevant accounting information to describe market share value

The objective of this paper is to examine the value relevance of financial reporting from a developing country perspective after the adoption of the full set of IFRS. The study utilizes the Ohlson price model to determine the value relevance of financial reporting. The findings show that generally earnings, book value of equity and cash flow from operations are useful for investment decision making, whereas, there is an increasing significance of cash flow from operations in the Malaysian Capital Market. This finding is not consistent with the rationale given by conceptual framework for financial reporting regarding the dominance of earnings in investment decision making due to the perception of managerial bias in the reported earnings and book value of equity in the Malaysian Capital Market over the period 2012–2106. The findings have an important implication for regulators and local standards-setting body to curtail earnings management practices to improve the quality of earnings and book value of equity to increase the investor’s confidence in general purpose financial reporting. The findings of the study contribute to the existing literature by performing a detailed empirical analysis of the value relevance of financial reporting in Malaysia, a developing country where the full set of IFRS has been implemented.
