Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a very common digestive disorder, which occurs when the acidic contents of the stomach returns into the esophagus to some extent, reaching the mouth, thereby increasing the frequency of dental erosion and caries. Since saliva plays a huge role in oral homeostasis, it is important to examine the role of this parameter in the appearance of the above mentioned oral lesions. The aim of our study was evaluate the oral condition of children suffering from reflux disease and to assess the relationship between salivary pH and the incidence of dental erosion and caries. In this prospective study we examined 25 children diagnosed with GERD, referred for hospitalization. Bedside intra-oral examination (DMFT index, gingival index) and strip method pH value determination was performed. We observed that patients with low pH values had increased caries frequency, and dental erosion was also noticeable. Statistical significance was determined comparing the DMFT index in groups with different pH values. We concluded that the high number of erosions is closely related to gastroesophageal reflux disease, as a consequence of the low pH value, which represents the main cause of oral manifestations in GERD.

We approach an integrated research-action model of the interactions between the psychosis of the parent, parenting, family relations, the child's development, risk and resilience factors. The research objectives are: identifying the resilience factors, the research of the interaction between the risk and resilience mechanisms, predicting or not the development of psychopathology in children of psychotic parents, the dynamic evaluation of the resilience. The longitudinal study was conducted in the period 2003-2013 on a group of 75 children with a schizophrenic parent and 70 children with a parent with bipolar disorder. We applied the scales: CBCL, Vth Axis ICD 10, PANSS and CD-RISC (Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale). Through PANSS for the psychotic parents, we correlated the scores for specific items with those obtained by the children through CD-RISC. Through MANOVA and the Pearson test we correlated the dependent variables with the predictive influence factors. The high PANSS scores for specific items were correlated negatively with the resilience scores of the children with psychotic parents. The maximum frequency of positive codifications on the Vth Axis, found for: rejection behavior from one parent (76, 4%), family disharmony (73, 52%), distorted family communication (70, 58%), was significantly correlated (p<0.001) with low scores of the child's resilience for personal competency, negative effects tolerance, safe interpersonal relations, high performance. The social, family support and social connectedness proved to be relevant variables. Resilience can be modified and improved through targeted interventions, so that the understanding of the resilience process and of the concurrent factors is needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this research is to conduct a social research on oral hygiene behaviour in primary school. In order to achieve our aim we designed our research using quantitative approach and conducting specialized social survey, using a sample of 1016 children from 11 different schools Timis County. Designed on three main dimensions of oral hygiene behaviour: information and knowledge practice of oral hygiene and relation with the dentist, our research findings provides strong support in order to understand the significant differences of dental health behaviour across gender, class level, and rural/urban area. In the same time, our results offer important elements of evidence-based data support required for conducting efficient oral health prevention programme and public policy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper will explore the evolution of Romanian migration phenomenon and the influence of migration policy of European countries, in order to understand the mechanism of choosing the destination country for Romanian emigrants. What type of evolution knows the migration phenomenon from Romania? Which are the most important factors that influence the emigration from Romania? How does the mechanism of choosing the work destination country for the Romanian emigrants? We expect that during the pre-joining period the European countries with tolerant attitude towards immigrants, and frequent naturalization, or regularization procedures, to be mainly preferred by Romanian immigrants. The empirical support for these hypotheses is examined based on statistical analysis of data provided by the official organisms for statistics in Romania, the Public Opinion Barometer. Dental arch changes are important in the diagnosis, treatment planning and long term stability in dentistry. Our aim was to develop a specific methodology and to train in analyzing the changes on sequential dental casts, in order to initiate a Longitudinal Growth Study. The specific changes and the assessed distances that increased and decreased during different age stages in children that have not been orthodontically influenced demonstrate the tremendous potential of natural growth, development and tooth alignment. In most of the cases lower incisors erupt somewhat lingually and in a slightly irregular position, but have the tendency and start to align very soon. Anterior arch length and depth increases because of the more labial eruption position of the permanent incisors. Posterior arch length usually decreases because of the leeway space, except the eruption of upper permanent canines, when it slightly increases. Intercanine width increases during the eruption of permanent incisors, then can decrease at the beginning of canines eruption and increases later again. The dimensional difference between permanent and primary teeth and the measurement of spaces between primary teeth are important parameters in space analysis at different stages. Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to analyze and to compare the dental and skeletal morphology of mono- and dizygotic twins (MZ and BZ)., Material and Methods: 10 sets of monozygotic (mean age: 18.5 years) and 10 sets of dizygotic (mean age: 19.7 years) twins were examined, cast analysis, ortopantomography and lateral cephalometric films were analyzed., Results: The upper frontal teeth dimension and shape is the same in 99.69% of MZ and 93.91% of the DZ twins. In MZ twins we found different values for transversal arch width and upper intercanine distance. The dental malpositions were different in the DZ sets, especially in tranversal and sagital plan. The same differences were seen in the arch forms. The skeletal pattern was also different between the components of DZ twins. The cephalometric values showed slight differences of the interincisal angle both in MZ and DZ twins., Conclusions: Genetically influenced patterns can be explained by the results of our study.

Unlabelled: Index is one of the most important analyses in orthodontic treatment planning. It shows if there is a correct proportion in size between the maxillary and mandibular teeth. In this study we compared the digital and traditional method., Methods: 35 dental casts were measured using a Vernier caliper. The mean value was compared with the measurements from the scanned images of the dental casts., Results: The results showed that the digital method provided similar results with those of the traditional one with a mean difference of 0.23 mm. The Pearson correlation coefficients were very high and similar to each other: R = 0.989 and R = 0.988 for the Anterior Bolton Index (ABI) and Overall Bolton Index (OBI), respectively. No statistically significant differences were present from either the ANOVA or the paired t-tests., Conclusion: The used digital method is as accurate as the traditional one, it is faster and easier to carry out and it offers all the advantages of image storage and data for subsequent use.
