Mushrooms have been consumed frequently worldwide since ancient times. In addition to edible and harmless species, there are also poisonous species that cause a wide range of clinical syndromes, from simple gastrointestinal (GI) irritation to death. However, it is not possible to distinguish the poisonous species from some edible species morphologically. Therefore, the unintentional consumption of mushrooms is an important public health problem. Mushrooms can be categorized according to their toxins, such as cyclopeptides, gyromitrin, muscarine, coprine, orellanine, psilocybin, and GI irritants. Mushrooms containing cyclopeptide-amatoxin are responsible for more than 90% of deaths due to mushroom poisoning. Amanita phalloides is responsible for many fatal cases because of the toxicity of this species. This article reviews the clinical syndromes that may develop after the consumption of various poisonous mushroom species, the mechanisms of action of their toxins, and the current treatments applied.

Objective: Fragmented QRS (fQRS) has been shown to be related to coronary heart disease, heart failure, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmia, and metabolic syndrome. Although fQRS in lateral leads is shown to be associated with a poor outcome in patients with a known cardiac disease, the knowledge about the significance and prevalence of fQRS in inferior leads is scarce. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and predictors of fQRS in inferior leads in healthy young men. Methods: A total of 1,155 men underwent electrocardiography (ECG), hepatic ultrasonography, and routine biochemical tests. A total of 210 eligible men with fQRS in inferior leads (group 1) and 770 eligible men without fQRS in inferior leads (group 2) were compared with each other in terms of clinical, demographic, and laboratory parameters. Results: The prevalence of fQRS in inferior leads was found to 21.4%. Body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (BP), creatinine, and alanine aminotransferase levels; non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) percentage; and interventricular septum thickness (IVST) were significantly greater in group 1 than those in group 2. BMI, IVST, NAFLD, creatinine, ALT, and systolic BP were entered in a model of multiple regression analyses to predict fQRS, a dependent variable. NAFLD was the best independent predictor of fQRS (β=6.115, p=0.001). BMI (β=1.448, p=0.014) and IVST (β=1.058, p=0.029) were the other independent predictors of fQRS in inferior leads. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the association of fQRS in inferior leads with NAFLD, BMI, and IVST in young men.

This study aimed to elucidate the effects of various chemical treatments on the in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) and concomitant feed value of dried grape pomace (DGP). Sun-dried grape pomace, derived from grapes processed in Denizli, Türkiye province was used in the experiment. One control group and three treatment groups were established, each with eight replicates. The first, second and third experimental groups were treated with 1.5% ammonia (NH3 ), 3% urea (CH4 N2O) and 3% sodium hydroxide (3%) (NaOH), respectively. The dry matter content was set at 50% for all groups. The control group received no additional chemicals. All groups were kept in airtight, closed plastic bags at room temperature for one week. Adding NH3 and CH4 N2O significantly improved crude protein levels (24.45 and 19.84%, respectively) and in vitro protein degradability (59.84 and 65.69%, respectively) in the experimental groups (p<0.001). Treatment with CH4 N2O did not exert the same deleterious effect on the ether extract concentration of desiccated grape pomace (p<0.004) as treatment with NaOH. Moreover, relative feed value declined significantly more after NaOH treatment compared to treatments containing nitrogen (p<0.001). Additionally, NaOH treatment yielded the lowest in vitro protein degradability of DGP at 40.32% (p<0.001). With an in vitro dry matter degradability of 47.18%, the findings indicate that among the chemical treatments investigated, application of NH3 resulted in the lowest degradability value (p<0.001). Consequently, it can be inferred that the feed value and digestibility of desiccated grape pomace are highly influenced by the nitrogen concentration or basic nature of the supplemental chemical compounds. Stroke stands as one of the primary global causes of disability and mortality. Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) emerges as a prevalent aftermath affecting over a third of the patients, with its incidence steadily rising annually. Notable clinical findings, that significantly affect participation in daily routines and life contentment, can be listed as; memory decline, concentration challenges, dependency in decision-making, and struggle in problem-solving. There is also a correlation among PSCI, dementia, and, disability rates. Therefore, cognitive rehabilitation strategies to improve cognitive functions are important components of stroke rehabilitation interventions. Traditional cognitive education, physical therapy, physical activity, psychotherapy, and complementary medicine practices are frequently used in the literature to rehabilitate PSCI. In addition to these advancements, the evolution of information technology has introduced alternative treatment approaches that can be utilized in Cognitive Rehabilitation (CR) applications such as Virtual Reality (VR).
