The structure of pyridin-4-ylmethyl 4-aminobenzoate was determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound was also characterized by elemental analysis, which showed the product was pure, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, which showed all important functional groups associated with the molecule. The compound crystallized in the orthorhombic space group Pna21, and the unit cell parameters were: a = 11.1735(16) Å, b = 8.3548(13) Å, c = 12.3831(17) Å, V = 1156.0(3) Å3, Z = 4. Abstract: Copper complexes of N,N′-di(aminoethylene)-2,6-pyridinedicarbonylamine and bis-(N,N-dimethylethyl)-2,6-pyridinedicarboxamide have been studied by glass electrode potentiometry, NMR, UV and IR spectroscopy as potential anti-inflammatory agents for the alleviation of inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis. The protonation and formation constants with Cu(II), Zn(II) and Ca(II), determined at 25°C and an ionic strength of 0.15moldm−3 were used to calculate the copper plasma mobilizing index of the ligands. Spectroscopic studies suggested that metal ion complexation promotes deprotonation and coordination of the amide nitrogens resulting in overall tetragonal distorted copper complexes. Bio-distribution and dermal absorption studies showed the complexes to have relatively long biological half-lives with 50% of the injected dose remaining in the body 24h after administration. The S2 state produces two basic electron paramagnetic resonance signal types due to the manganese cluster in oxygen-evolving complex, which are influenced by the solvents, and cryoprotectant added to the photosystem II samples. It is presumed that a single manganese center oxidation occurs on S1 → S2 state transition. The S2 state has readily visible multiline and g 4.1 electron paramagnetic resonance signals and hence it has been the most studied of all the Kok cycle intermediates due to the ease of experimental preparation and stability. The S2 state was studied using electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy at X-band frequencies. The aim of this study was to determine the spin states of the g 4.1 signal. The multiline signal was observed to arise from a ground state spin ½ centre while the g 4.1 signal generated at ≈140 K NIR illumination was proposed to arise from a spin 5 2 center with rhombic distortion. The 'ground' state g 4.1 signal was generated solely or by conversion from the multiline. The data analysis methods used involved numerical simulations of the experimental spectra on relevant models of the oxygen-evolving complex cluster. A strong focus in this paper was on the 'ground' state g 4.1 signal, whether it is a rhombic 5 2 spin state signal or an axial 3 2 spin state signal. The data supported an X-band CW-EPR-generated g 4.1 signal as originating from a near rhombic spin 5/2 of the S2 state of the PSII manganese cluster. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The removal of textile wastes is a priority due to their mutagenic and carcinogenic properties.  In this study, bismuth oxyhalide was used in the removal of methylene blue (MB) which is a textile waste. The main objective of this study was to develop and investigate the applicability of a bismuth oxyhalide (BiOBr z I (1-z) ) solid solutions in the photodegradation of MB under solar and ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. Methods: Bismuth oxyhalide ( BiOBr z I (1-z) ) (0 ≤ z ≤ 1) materials were successfully prepared through the hydrothermal method. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to determine the surface area, microstructure, crystal structure, and morphology of the resultant products. The photocatalytic performance of BiOBr z I (1-z) materials was examined through methylene blue (MB) degradation under UV light and solar irradiation. Results: The XRD showed that BiOBr z I (1-z) materials crystallized into a tetragonal crystal structure with (102) peak slightly shifting to lower diffraction angle with an increase in the amount of iodide (I - ). BiOBr 0.6 I 0.4 materials showed a point of zero charge of 5.29 and presented the highest photocatalytic activity in the removal of MB with 99% and 88% efficiency under solar and UV irradiation, respectively. The kinetics studies of MB removal by BiOBr z I (1-z) materials showed that the degradation process followed nonlinear pseudo-first-order model indicating that the removal of MB depends on the population of the adsorption sites. Trapping experiments confirmed that photogenerated holes (h + ) and superoxide radicals ( • O 2 - ) are the key species responsible for the degradation of MB. Conclusions : This study shows that bismuth oxyhalide materials are very active in the degradation of methylene blue dye using sunlight and thus they have great potential in safeguarding public health and the environment from the dye's degradation standpoint.
