DIRALEC system is a new technology designed for the evaluation of the milk bacteriological quality obtained from crude and pasteurized samples. The software for the DIRALEC system was developed in Borland Delphi for Windows. It works with a Microsoft Access DataBase, which is created, updated and managed from the program. The system is based on the detection of the bacterial growth present in a culture medium inoculated with the sample to analyze using photometric methods. The detection of the bacterial growth is carried out by the measurement of the turbidity changes in the inoculated culture medium in an 8 hours period of time. The system gives accurate results in a reasonable time. The new version of the system includes the detection of Staphylococcus spp. and Inhibitors in the samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper shows a software system developed in Delphi for Windows for data acquisition using a multipurpose acquisition card Advantech PCL-711B connected to the Bioactivity Monitor LKB-2277. The data obtained from the acquisition is used for having the corresponding profiles using microcalorimetry of the different bacterial strains and their interrelation with the different culture media and their biological activity. The acquisition can be performed in four channels simultaneously. The acquisition time period, the time interval for saving the results, the selection of the channels, the top and the bottom limits for the graphic panel and the digital filtering of the signals can be programmed. It is also possible to show the curves of previous saved data. Using this software it was possible to obtain the calorimetric profiles of different pattern bacterial strains as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The use of equipment Mycrob-1000 in detecting urinary infections in 4 hours in a primary health care center is evaluated. Two hundred fifty eight urine samples obtained from spontaneous miction were processed; the reference method was counting of colony-forming units per urine millimeter inoculated in Petri plaque in CLED medium. The coincidence rate between both methods was 92,31, with sensitivity and specificity rates of 79,00% and 96,95% respectively. The level of sensitivity was affected by factors not directly dependent on the equipment. High values of specificity and of coincidence achieved by this equipment in relation to the reference method facilitates its use in urine culture, making possible to differentiate negative urine samples in 4 or 5 hours and to focus work and resources on positive samples.
