Compensatory measures are those designed to offset negative environmental impacts and may be carried out voluntarily by those responsible for these impacts and/or required by the competent environmental agency. Therefore, this study aimed to make a qualitative and quantitative diagnosis of the success of increasing road afforestation with resources from compensatory measures, in eight neighborhoods in the city of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The results showed that about half of the seedlings planted by that measure were absent. The analysis of 112 streets showed the presence of 2,139 trees of the legal measure, and around 30% of the trees require maintenance. Such information can be useful for planning the city's road afforestation, supporting the taking of actions to be carried out. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
