Indigenous people in Canada continue to experience barriers accessing healthcare services including systemic racism and disproportionate healthcare disparities. Indigenous Patient Navigators (IPNs) and programs may mitigate these barriers by providing culturally safe care and support for Indigenous patients and their families navigating healthcare systems. Unfortunately, few IPNs and IPN programs exist in Ontario. We conducted an environmental scan of IPN resources and programs in Canada. Our aim was to determine evaluation frameworks, training, responsibilities of IPNs, and current IPN programs in Canada. We found 97 web sites or documents that were gathered between January and March 2021. We offer gaps in knowledge uncovered during the environmental scan. We conclude with recommendations for the implementation of IPN programs. Indigenous patient navigators have the potential to improve Indigenous healthcare experiences. Specific and sustained action is required to improve and create an equitable health system for Indigenous people across Canada.

Resume Objectifs Les interruptions medicales de grossesse (IMG) pour mise en peril grave de la sante de la femme selon les termes de la loi sont aussi appelees IMG « maternelles » ou IMG « psychosociales ». L’objectif de l’etude est de decrire l’activite de pratiques de ce type d’IMG a la clinique Jules-Verne de Nantes de 2005 a 2009 et de categoriser les demandes et leurs issues. Methodes Un recueil retrospectif a ete realise sur dossiers. Les decisions d’accord ou de refus etaient prises dans le cadre legal d’une commission pluridisciplinaire constituee d’au moins quatre personnes. Resultats Sur six annees, 122 demandes d’IMG ont ete recues a la clinique. Les origines geographiques etaient surtout liees a la Loire-Atlantique, mais la moitie venait d’autres departements de l’Ouest de la France. L’âge des femmes s’etendaient de 13 a 45 ans et les âges gestationnels de 14 SA a 24 SA. Etaient notes 28,6 % de problemes psychologiques. La precarite representait 88,5 % des femmes avec une predominance de precarite economique et sociale. Des violences ont ete notees dans 25,1 % des cas. Apres la reunion de la commission, 5 refus ont ete notifies et sur les 117 accords, 113 IMG ont ete realisees au final en raison de quatre absences au rendez-vous et un changement d’avis. Une typologie des femmes a permis de distinguer trois groupes de femmes essentiellement separees selon les âges. Conclusion Cette etude montre une activite specifique d’IMG pour mise en peril grave de la sante de la femme pendant six annees dans un etablissement de sante. Au regard des principes ethiques, l’accord de la commission a la suite de telles demandes est discute dans le domaine de l’autonomie des femmes, de la bienfaisance et de la non-malfaisance de l’acte d’IMG et au regard des principes de justice.

The Austrian network of isotopes in rivers comprises about 15 sampling locations and has been operated since 1976. The Danube isotope time series goes back to 1963. The isotopic composition of river water in Central Europe is mainly governed by the isotopic composition of precipitation in the catchment area; evaporation effects play only a minor role. Short-term and long-term isotope signals in precipitation are thus transmitted through the whole catchment. The influence of climatic changes has become observable in the long-term stable isotope time series of precipitation and surface waters. Environmental 3H values were around 8 TU in 2015, short-term 3H pulses up to about 80 TU in the rivers Danube and March were a consequence of releases from nuclear power plants. The complete isotope data series of this network will be included in the Global Network of Isotopes in Rivers database of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2017. This article comprises a review of 50 years isotope monitoring on rivers and is also intended to provide base information on the (isotope-)hydrological conditions in Central Europe specifically for the end-users of these data, e.g. for modelling hydrological processes. Furthermore, this paper includes the 2006-2015 supplement adding to the Danube isotope set published earlier.

This paper focuses on experiences gained by creating a landslide inventory map for a study area of approx. 850 km2 near the city of Tianshui in Gansu province, Western China. The study area consists of a Loess landscape that is strongly anthropogenic transformed by terraced agriculture and is interspersed by mainly earthquake triggered landslides. Two different approaches were performed to establish an inventory map of landslides: Mapping landslides from field based studies and mapping landslides from a DTM derived from a Pleiades satellite image pair. Pleiades images offer a panchromatic ground sampling distance of 0.5 m which enabled us to create a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) with a resolution of 1.0 m. The methodologies of these two landslide mapping approaches are presented and respective results are compared showing advantages and disadvantages of each approach. One of the main results of the project was to demonstrate the applicability and the effectiveness of DTM mapping in Loess sediments of Western China. In comparison to field mapping, the DTM inventory is at least of equal quality as the field mapped inventory because of its consistency and completeness. DTM mapping is also a much more cost efficient tool, especially when looking at mapping larger areas in remote locations in Western China, as well as those areas which are difficult to access.
