Products which are going to be launched on the market are designed using different CAD systems. The design stage is a time consuming phase, because of geometrical changes which are often implemented to improve the products according to the customer needs. For each design change, not only the reshaping of the parts, but especially the redesigning of the tools needed for their manufacturing will increase the time of development phase. This paper presents a method of parametric designing, using Catia V5, of a compound die for a rotational part made from sheet metal using cold pressing processes. This article presents the context that led to the establishment of the probation system in Romania in relation to some reforms of the criminal sanctioning system. These reforms were necessary because of the difficulties faced by the penitentiary system before and after 1989, as well as the need to align the administration of penalties with the requirements imposed by the country’s accession to the Council of Europe and the European Union. Eighteen years after the creation of the probation system within the Ministry of Justice, it can be stated that this endeavour constitutes a success, but it is absolutely necessary to continue the efforts towards consolidating it. In addition, these measures have to be accompanied by a change of vision in relation to how other community members can be involved in the process of social reintegration of individuals who have broken the law.

Since liquid storage tanks have an increasingly number of industrial applications, their volumetric measuring is imperative both for cost control in transactions and for quality assurance. The current paper focuses on the volumetric measurement of a stainless steel milk tank. The main objective is to compare two different methods of tank calibration and evaluate their results, in order to deliver the most accurate measurement method. In particular, the paper evaluates the traditional procedure for volume measurement and uses different tools for reverse engineering, in order to evaluate their compatibility with the product characteristics and the accuracy of each one. Emphasis is given to 3D scanning as a new method which provides high accuracy and high density positional information about the tank. The big sized milling cutters are expensive tools and are not appropriate for small batches production. Making these tools more versatile, able to fit to different kinds of processes and shapes of the parts to be machined is a must. As well, cooling the cutting area is very important. The existing end-mill cutters are designed to feed internally with coolant only the teeth on the front side. The paper presents a concept of a modular tool, made of elementary disk cutters, able to be reconfigured to get different shapes and sizes. The main element of novelty the paper claims is the inner cooling system of the complex tool. The special design of the elementary milling cutters and of the shaft they are mounted on make the tool able to lead jets of coolant to every insert, no matter where they are placed, on the cylindrical or on the front side of the milling cutter. A network of channels drilled in the shaft and in the body of elementary milling cutters make this possible. The capability to splash with coolant under high pressure all the cutting edges do not depend on the number of teeth of the tool. Being delivered from inside the cutting tool, the coolant splashes directly on the contact surface between the inserts and workpiece, which makes cooling more efficient.

The most frequent workplace accidents in the industry are most of the times caused by the employer’s failure to fulfill their obligation to provide appropriate on-the-job training. Starting from this state of affairs, this paper analyzes the main cause of workplace accidents in the industry, which is the lack of training, or incomplete or inadequate training of employees, a situation indicated by the latest studies and the latest activity report of Labor Inspectorate. The solution identified by most employers was to use the online environment, this being the only way that allows the achievement of both of the aforementioned objectives at the same time. In this context, the paper identifies and proposes the use of the online environment, especially in the process of distance training of workers, giving them the opportunity to receive training documents, to analyze them, to electronically sign them and send them to the employer in electronic format. This proposal of supplementing the current legislation with the possibility of using the online environment in the field of occupational health and safety (OHS) also takes into account other categories of benefits that this solution brings, such as streamlining OHS and optimizing costs incurred in fulfilling these legal obligations.

In the recent years, the industry tends to an accelerated evolution in order to maintain the competitiveness on the profile market. As a response to this challenge, engineers and researchers have started to combine multidisciplinary knowledge with solutions provided by programming software so as to obtain immediate and reliable results on each step of a product development. The main advantage is highlighted especially for the optimization phases, when the using of the parametric tools is less time-consuming and the majority of issues of the developed product are solved from the first version of the project. This paper aims to present a case study of a parametric design and meshing in MSC Patran environment, using a programming solution in Visual Basic, of a part with a complex geometry from aerospaceindustry and also to accentuate the minimized risks from the design phase to manufacturing, with a review of the advantages and disadvantages.

The present paper carries out a study on health and safety in the manufacturing industry. The health and safety is analyzed for industrial workers in Brasov county for the years 2017 and 2018. The analysis is based on data for work related accidents and the processing was made using the Pareto Analysis. By complying with the 80/20 rule, it can be focused on the analysis of the 20% of the causes of work accidents that account for 80% of the total work accidents analyzed. Finally, it is presented which actions that can be taken to reduce accidents based on the analysis of the specific stages. After applying the Pareto Analysis in the year 2018 are obtained satisfactory results compared to the year 2017, thus optimizing the performance of the industrial activity in terms of health and safety and improve Quality Assurance in Industrial Manufacturing.

In incremental sheet forming processes, the expensive dedicated tool are avoided and replaced with a cheap and simple fixing device which support the sheet metal blanks. The current paper presents how a fixing device used for single point incremental forming device is designed, FEM simulated and manufactured. The fixing device can be used for parts with a cone frustum and pyramidal frustum made of DC05 deep drawing steel. The forces developed in the process and the device displacements were estimated using FEM simulation. The device components were manufactured using a CNC machines and the physical assembly is also presented in the paper.

Nowadays, the movement of Post-Modernism, which appeared in 20th century, influences the art and the design of products. It is considered that the investigation and the undermining, which construct the modern society, compel a traditional prioritization based on cultural values. Furthermore, today the main effect is the image as the users opt to purchase their products by the appearance that is more substantial than the usage. For that reason, the alteration of daily products is the cause of this paper so that the consumers feel confused by them. Namely the basic image of a product may be the same as or similar to an original object, but it may alter the use of it. The viewer should interpret the image differently such as his experience and his belief. In addition, the change of visual messages can be achieved by the complexity of geometry, the combination of objects and the modification of materials. This is defined by the movement of Unruly design that aims for offering a new aesthetic of products. Finally, the goal of this paper is to present a number of illustrative case studies, which ensure an appropriate interface relationship between the art and product design.

At metal drilling, at the beginning of the process, the cutting tool in the chisel edge zone, frictions and plastically deforms the material, and then enters in cutting. If the drill is entered smoothly in cutting with a special device, its life is increased. The paper presents how the electrical current at cutting is used for the evaluation of smooth entrance in cutting in comparison with classical cutting. These are demonstrated for 41MoC11 steel drilled with a set of 30 tools having 8 mm diameter.

During the process of drilling metals there are used cutting tools that can be acquisitioned directly from the producers, from distributors or from supermarkets. Because the offer is varied and there are different producers, the acquisition must be made after an economical analysis that includes experimental tests. The paper presents an innovative methodology of drills acquisition based on electrical current at cutting process. The researches were developed using HS 6-5-2 steel drills of 8 mm diameter, in two batches, acquisitioned from two different suppliers, at different prices. The drills were tested on 1C45 material using the same values for cutting parameters and because the electrical current at cutting is sensible to any imperfection of the tools, the batches were analysed from qualitative and economical point of view.

During the process of turning metals there are used cutting inserts that can be acquisitioned from different producers. Because the offer is varied the acquisition must be made after an economical analysis that includes experimental tries. The paper presents an acquisition methodology for metallic carbide cutting inserts and presents a case study. This research was developed using three batches of cutting inserts acquisitioned from different producers. The specimen material was 1C45 and using the electrical current at cutting, the batches were analysed from qualitative and economical point of view.

In this article are studied the possibilities of manufacturing human teeth using the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) process. The human teeth are a biological construction, and because of this, they have a very complex structure with external and internal complex surfaces, unique for each person. To manufacture such structures, even using additive technologies, it is important to find the right manufacturing strategy. In this study are presented three strategies to manufacture the first molar using a SLM process and ANSI 316 L stainless steel as the building material. The best strategy to manufacture the teeth is chosen, and once build they can be used to test dental tools.

The paper presents an original software tool implemented for an automated design methodology associated to a customizable product from footwear industry. The software tool is written in Visual Basic for Application and is integrated in CATIA environment. It is an easy to use software tool and combines reverse engineering with parametric design of a product that has complex shapes with many curves. The final result is a solid CAD model obtained in an automatically mode.

Nowadays the customer requirements are in permanent changing and according with them the tendencies in the modern industry is to implement flexible manufacturing processes. In the last decades, metal forming gained attention of the researchers and considerable changes has occurred. Because for a small number of parts, the conventional metal forming processes are expensive and time-consuming in terms of designing and manufacturing preparation, the manufacturers and researchers became interested in flexible processes. One of the most investigated flexible processes in metal forming is incremental sheet forming (ISF). ISF is an advanced flexible manufacturing process which allows to manufacture complex 3D products without expensive dedicated tools. In most of the cases it is needed for an ISF process the following: a simple tool, a fixing device for sheet metal blank and a universal CNC machine. Using this process it can be manufactured axis-symmetric parts, usually using a CNC lathe but also complex asymmetrical parts using CNC milling machines, robots or dedicated equipment. This paper aim to present the current status of incremental sheet forming technologies in terms of process parameters and their influences, wall thickness distribution, springback effect, formability, surface quality and the current main research directions.

The present work aims to provide the readers with a bird's-eye view of the general domain of cylindrical gear manufacturing technologies, including the cutting tools used, and related topics. The main scientific sources are explored to collect data about the subject. A systematization of the scientific works is completed, to emphasize the main issues the researchers have focused on in the past years in the domain. Several specific aspects are investigated: chip-forming process, cutting tool lifetime, the materials used to produce gear hobs, temperature and lubrication, the cutting tool geometry, cutting parameters, design methods, and optimization. Some gaps in the research have been identified, which are mainly related to the gear hob's design. These gaps, the organization of knowledge, the current requirements of the industry, and the actual socio-economic priorities form the basis for identifying new scientific research directions for the future in the area of spur gears manufacturing technologies and cutting tools. The main output of this work is a frame to guide the development of scientific research in the domain of spur gear production.

Previous literature suggests that correcting ongoing movements is more effective when using the dominant limb and seeing with the dominant eye. Specifically, individuals are more effective at adjusting their movement to account for an imperceptibly perturbed or changed target location (i.e., online movement correction), when vision is available to the dominant eye. However, less is known if visual-motor functions based on monocular information can undergo short-term neuroplastic changes after a bout of practice, to improve online correction processes. Participants ( n  = 12) performed pointing movements monocularly and their ability to correct their movement towards an imperceptibly displaced target was assessed. On the first day, the eye associated with smaller correction amplitudes was exclusively trained during acquisition. While correction amplitude was assessed again with both eyes monocularly, only the eye with smaller correction amplitudes in the pre-test showed significant improvement in delayed retention. These results indicate that monocular visuomotor pathways can undergo short-term neuroplastic changes.

We present the case of an 18-month-old girl, from rural area, admitted to our clinic for fever and cough. The anamnestic data and the clinical and radiological examinations initially suggested the diagnosis of acute interstitial pneumonia. During hospitalization, she repeatedly presented exacerbations with acute respiratory failure, but without fever. Paraclinic examinations revealed anemia, leukocytosis, inflammatory tests with highly increased values, low values of serum iron and serum calcium, hyperproteinemia with hypergammaglobulinemia, the values of IgE and IgG being highly increased. Repeated pulmonary x-rays-peribronchovascular interstitial thickening, at the level of peri-and right infrahilar area. Medullary puncture-increased percentage of eosinophils in several stages of maturity, approximately 20%, normal values for the other medullary series, without atypical cells; the fingertip hemogram showed anemia, leukocytosis, eosinophilia. The diagnosis turned to a possible toxocariasis-atc anti toxocara canis=55.6 NTU. In the third week of hospitalization, the patient presented short crises of nonfebrile seizures. Normal CT and EEG brain. The child was discharged after 5 weeks, the diagnosis being severe toxocariasis with pulmonary and neurological manifestations; she was recommended an antiparasitary treatment and remained in our clinic's records.

The transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) represents a focal point in the immune recognition of virally or malignantly transformed cells by translocating proteasomal degradation products into the endoplasmic reticulum-lumen for loading of MHC class I molecules. Based on a number of experimental data and the homology to the bacterial ABC exporter Sav1866, we constructed a 3D structural model of the core TAP complex and used it to examine the interface between the transmembrane and nucleotide-binding domains (NBD) by cysteine-scanning and cross-linking approaches. Herein, we demonstrate the functional importance of the newly identified X-loop in the NBD in coupling substrate binding to downstream events in the transport cycle. We further verified domain swapping in a heterodimeric ABC half-transporter complex by cysteine cross-linking. Strikingly, either substrate binding or translocation can be blocked by cross-linking the X-loop to coupling helix 2 or 1, respectively. These results resolve the structural arrangement of the transmission interface and point to different functions of the cytosolic loops and coupling helices in substrate binding, signaling, and transport.

By translocating proteasomal degradation products into the endoplasmic reticulum for loading of major histocompatibility complex I molecules, the ABC transporter TAP plays a focal role in the adaptive immunity against infected or malignantly transformed cells. A key question regarding the transport mechanism is how the quality of the incoming peptide is detected and how this information is transmitted to the ATPase domains. To identify residues involved in this process, we evolved a Trojan horse strategy in which a small artificial protease is inserted into antigenic epitopes. After binding, the TAP backbone in contact is cleaved, allowing the peptide sensor site to be mapped by mass spectrometry. Within this sensor site, we identified residues that are essential for tight coupling of peptide binding and transport. This sensor and transmission interface is restructured during the ATP hydrolysis cycle, emphasizing its important function in the cross-talk between the transmembrane and the nucleotide-binding domains. This allocrite sensor may be similarly positioned in other members of the ABC exporter family.
