This paper examines the decision-making role of Canadian national sport organization boards, identifies the processes used to facilitate decision making by these boards, and explores whether these elements differ between the various design archetypes that exist among these organizations. Forty-five semistructured interviews were conducted with board members and senior staff of 22 Canadian national sport organizations, and data were thematically analyzed. Findings indicate board members and senior staff focused on strategy as their primary role, along with control over other roles (e.g., providing advice and counsel or securing resources). Roles differed according to the organization's design archetype. Our analysis showed clear differences between design archetypes in terms of how these the organizations used structural artifacts such as subcommittees to facilitate decision making, navigated decision rights between board members and paid staff, and adhered to the Carver policy governance model promoted for national sport organizations by Sport Canada. Cloud organization impacts the radiative effects and precipitation patterns of the cloud field. Deviating from randomness, clouds exhibit either clustering or a regular grid structure, characterized by the spacing between clouds and the cloud size distribution. The two measures are coupled but do not fully define each other. Here, we present the deviation from randomness of the cloud‐ and void‐chord length distributions as a measure for both factors. We introduce the LvL representation and an associated 2D score that allow for unambiguously quantifying departure from well‐defined baseline randomness in cloud spacing and sizes. This approach demonstrates sensitivity and robustness in classifying cloud field organization types. Its delicate sensitivity unravels the temporal evolution of a single cloud field, providing novel insights into the underlying governing processes. Plain Language Summary: The spatial arrangement of clouds within a cloud field plays a significant role in influencing the field's radiative effects, cloud properties, and precipitation patterns. After more than a century of concerted effort, physics still lacks basic principles of spontaneous self-organization. To appreciate why, we first state the problem, outline historical approaches, and survey the present state of the physics of self-organization. This frames the particular challenges arising from mathematical intractability and the resulting need for computational approaches, as well as those arising from a chronic failure to define structure. Then, an overview of two modern mathematical formulations of organization—intrinsic computation and evolution operators—lays out a way to overcome these challenges. Additionally, we show how intrinsic computation and evolution operators combine to produce a general framework showing physical consistency between emergent behaviors and their underlying physics. This statistical mechanics of emergence provides a theoretical foundation for data-driven approaches to organization necessitated by analytic intractability. Archaeologists all over the world face problems regarding complexity and disorganization. Whether surveying, excavating, or doing laboratory analysis, the nature of the evidence of prehistoric societies is fragmented and incomplete. On a global and very general basis, the older the site, the greater the fragmentation, the more the missing data, and the greater the disorganization that the archaeologist must navigate to understand the past. Of course, there are notable exceptions. Most archaeologists consider the topic from the specificity of a particular time, a particular place, and a particular society. In this paper, it is considered in its most non-particular and general format. In order to do so, the paper creates an artificial archaeological region that is surveyed and excavated to a greater and lesser extent and analyzed with a variety of statistical and graphic evaluations. It concludes that when all other things are equal, increasing fragmentation causes far more disorganization and increases complexity than does missing data. While cognitive aging research has compared episodic memory accuracy between younger and older adults, less work has described differences in how memories are encoded and recalled. This is important for memories of real-world experiences, since there is immense variability in which details can be accessed and organized into narratives. We investigated age effects on the organization and content of memory for complex events. In two independent samples (N = 45; 60), young and older adults encoded and recalled the same short-movie. We applied a novel scoring on the recollections to quantify recall accuracy, temporal organization (temporal contiguity, forward asymmetry), and content (perceptual, conceptual). No age-effects on recall accuracy nor on metrics of temporal organization emerged. Older adults provided more conceptual and non-episodic content, whereas younger adults reported a higher proportion of event-specific information. Collaboration and relations are essential for most civil society organizations (CSOs). Still, little is known about what drives CSOs to collaborate among themselves when supporting refugees. By analysing drivers for collaboration and relational aspects in Malmö, Sweden, as the empirical setting, including how past, present, and anticipated future relations affect CSOs' organizational behaviour, the article aims to contribute to our understanding of CSOs' collaboration when supporting refugees. While collaborative drivers are important to understand the motivation to collaborate, adding a relational perspective helps us understand the complexity of collaboration, especially when CSOs do not exclusively collaborate to benefit their own organization. Past relations are essential for some collaboration, whereas other collaboration and behaviour create new ties and intensify existing ones. While most criminal cases are resolved by a guilty plea, little empirical research has examined guilty plea wrongful convictions. This study explored this issue through semistructured interviews with 27 legal professionals in Queensland, Australia (n = 16 defense lawyers; n = 7 prosecutors; n = 4 magistrates). Driven by a systems and organizational perspective, we conducted a thematic analysis exploring the structural and organizational features that may systematically contribute to erroneous guilty plea convictions. We found an overarching emphasis on efficiency and pressure to quickly resolve cases, coupled with practical constraints impeding legal professionals from ensuring guilty pleas are appropriate and accurate. There was also a general acceptance of false guilty pleas through the justification of "choice," legitimized by the authoritative precedent set by Meissner v R (1995). The findings indicate the routine nature of erroneous guilty plea convictions and raise important implications regarding the current validity of a guilty plea, as they do not always reflect actual guilt. Following the principles of dynamic equilibrium theory (DET), this study examined the stable (institutional) and dynamic (episodic) components of mistreatment [experienced incivility and perpetrated counterproductive work behaviours (CWB)] using two longitudinal field samples based on a latent trait–state modelling approach. Study 1 (N = 615) leveraged a weekly lag design over four assessment points and Study 2 (N = 880) leveraged a monthly lag design over five assessment points. Across the two studies, results indicated that the majority of variance in both mistreatment constructs was institutional (i.e., individuals have meaningful set points that persist over time). Furthermore, institutional experienced incivility was positively related to institutional perpetrated CWB (i.e., the set point for experiencing incivility was positively related to the set point for perpetrating CWB). Similarly, episodic experienced incivility was concurrently associated with episodic perpetrated CWB (i.e., atypical episodes of experienced incivility were concurrently related to atypical episodes of perpetrated CWB). Interestingly, episodic experienced incivility did not have a lagged effect on future episodic perpetrated CWB, while episodic perpetrated CWB did have a lagged effect on future episodic experienced incivility. As such, for minor atypical episodes of mistreatment (i.e., incivility), we found evidence of dynamic equilibrium in that there are immediate episodic changes in other forms of mistreatment, but internal adaptive mechanisms appear to neutralize these effects over time. Meanwhile, overt atypical episodes of mistreatment (i.e., CWB) appear to have both immediate and lasting effects on other forms of mistreatment. Le fonctionnement des établissements pour personnes âgées ou handicapées concernant l'alimentation nutrition est mal connu. Il existe en région Nouvelle-Aquitaine un centre de ressources en nutrition (Cerenut) chargé d'aider les établissements sur ces thématiques. L'étude visait à connaître les principales actions alimentation nutrition pratiquées dans les établissements médicosociaux et de santé de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, leur perception de l'intérêt des divers services proposés par Cerenut et les niveaux d'utilisation de ces services. Un questionnaire sécurisé était adressé par voie électronique à 2625 établissements. Les données déclaratives étaient recueillies en automatique durant une période d'un mois. Le nombre d'établissements répondants était de 172 (6,6 % des établissements contactés). L'utilisation des compléments nutritionnels oraux, la pesée au moins une fois/mois et la présence d'une commission de menus étaient les actions les plus souvent déclarées. L'alimentation nutrition était une préoccupation importante pour le budget des établissements. L'évaluation nutritionnelle des résidents à l'entrée, l'utilisation de temps diététique, la pratique de la nutrition entérale étaient peu fréquentes. Les établissements pour personnes handicapées étaient les plus mal lotis. Les services de Cerenut touchant à la formation des équipes étaient jugés les plus intéressants et les plus utilisés. Plusieurs actions alimentation nutrition fondamentales n'étaient pas réalisées dans les établissements enquêtés, de nature à gêner l'évaluation nutritionnelle des résidents, leur prise en charge et la valorisation de leurs séjours. The functioning of establishments for elderly or disabled people regarding food and nutrition is poorly understood. In the French Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, there is a Nutrition Resource Center (Cerenut) responsible for helping establishments on these issues. The study aimed to find out the main food and nutrition actions practiced in medico-social and health establishments in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, their perception of the interest of the various services offered by Cerenut and the levels of use of these services. A secure questionnaire was sent electronically to 2625 establishments. Declarative data was collected automatically over a period of one month. The number of responding establishments was 172 (6.6% of establishments contacted). The use of oral nutritional supplements, weighing at least once a month and the presence of a menu committee were the most frequent actions. Nutritional issues were an important concern for establishment budgets. The nutritional assessment of residents upon entry and the use of dietary time remained infrequent, as did the practice of enteral nutrition. Establishments for people with disabilities were the worst off. Cerenut's services relating to team training were considered the most interesting and the most used. Several fundamental food and nutrition actions were not carried out in the establishments surveyed, likely to hamper the nutritional assessment of residents, their care and the enhancement of their stays. For thousands of years, humans and horse have co-habitated on the earth. From the steppes of Mongolia to the shores of Ireland and Iceland, horses gradually became an increasingly integral part of the social fabric, as they offered their services to humans in exchange for domesticated survival. In this article, we trace the equestrian iconography of power and leadership from its origins in ancient times through to modern times and identify the transitory position of contemporary management, moving into a post-centaurian age in which the complex iconographic reservoir of meanings and figures is supplanted by new forms of managerial reasoning, founded in the long legacy of the anthropocentrism of the Enlightenment. Through an explorative approach, the systems theoretical approach of Niklas Luhmann is extended to include the modus operandi of pre-modern societies with its abundance of non-human actors such as demons, gods, angels and horses. In conclusion, the article demonstrates how the widely used idea of post-heroic leadership is a severe misconception of historical concepts of heroes; rather, post-heroic deeds are in adherence with equestrian treatises of heroic leadership which promoted the demonstration of heroic excellence in the equestrian manège. As the horses and the heroes of modernity are seemingly relegated to the confinements of history books, the reservoir of equine-heroic semantics and concepts is still with us today and continues to resonate in semantic figures of power, framing the life of the post-centaurian manager, politicians, Ukranian soldiers and the plethora of societal realms still using the language connected to equestrian semantics. Background: Person-centred planning refers to a model of care in which programs and services are developed in collaboration with persons receiving care (i.e., persons-supported) and tailored to their unique needs and goals. In recent decades, governments around the world have enacted policies requiring community-care agencies to adopt an individualized or person-centred approach to service delivery. Although regional mandates provide a framework for directing care, it is unclear how this guidance is implemented in practice given the diversity and range of organizations within the sector. This study aims to address a gap in the literature by describing how person-centred care plans are implemented in community-care organizations. Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with administrators from community-care organizations in Ontario, Canada. We asked participants about their organization's approach to developing and updating person-centred care plans, including relevant supports and barriers. We analyzed the data thematically using a pragmatic, qualitative, descriptive approach. Results: We interviewed administrators from 12 community-care organizations. We identified three overarching categories or processes related to organizational characteristics and person-centred planning: (1) organizational context, (2) organizational culture, and (3) the design and delivery of person-centred care plans. The context of care and the types of services offered by the organization were directly informed by the needs and characteristics of the population served. The culture of the organization (e.g., their values, attitudes and beliefs surrounding persons-supported) was a key influence in the development and implementation of person-centred care plans. Participants described the person-centred planning process as being iterative and collaborative, involving initial and continued consultations with persons-supported and their close family and friends, while also citing implementation challenges in cases where persons had difficulty communicating, and in cases where they preferred not to have a formal plan in place. Conclusions: The person-centred planning process is largely informed by organizational context and culture. There are ongoing challenges in the implementation of person-centred care plans, highlighting a gap between policy and practice and suggesting a need for comprehensive guidance and enhanced adaptability in current regulations. Policymakers, administrators, and service providers can leverage these insights to refine policies, advocating for inclusive, flexible approaches that better align with diverse community needs. The effects of rare earth Ce on the microstructure and properties of cast pure copper were investigated through thermodynamic calculations, XRD analysis, mechanical testing, metallographic microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experimental results demonstrate that the reaction between rare earth Ce and oxygen as well as sulfur in copper exhibits a significantly negative Gibbs free energy value, indicating a strong thermodynamic driving force for deoxidation and desulfurization reactions. Ce is capable of removing trace amounts of O and S from copper. Moreover, the maximum solid solubility of Ce in Cu falls within the range of 0.009% to 0.01%. Furthermore, Ce can refine columnar grains while enlarging equiaxed grains in as-cast copper. Upon the addition of rare earth Ce, the tensile strength increased by 8.45%, elongation increased by 12.1%, and microhardness rose from 73.5 HV to 81.2 HV—an increase of 10.5%. Over recent years, increasing violence in Latin American countries has led women’s movements against violence to face challenging circumstances while advancing their goals. Attention has recently turned to the internal structures of these movements, particularly the aspect of leadership. While prior research recognizes a preference for shared leadership among women’s movements, where responsibilities are commonly distributed among many members, it also points to its potential for conflict, which can impede collaborative action. However, there is still a limited understanding of the organizational conditions of movement leadership, especially within women’s movements facing adverse contexts that require enhancing their capacities for goal attainment. This study follows the concept of leadership capital, which posits that movement leaders use their skills and knowledge to undertake decision-making that is crucial for the movement’s goals. Conceptually, it explores potential relationships between organizational conditions that might foster elements to enhance leadership capital. Employing inductive research through a cross-case study of two Mexican women’s movements against violence, the Olimpia and the Anti-femicide movements, performed between 2017 and 2021, the study focuses on two main organizational conditions: the presence of a common agenda and effective communication. By comparing these movements, which had varying degrees of success in meeting their legislative objectives, the study reveals how differences in these organizational conditions can potentially relate to promoting leadership capital. Purpose: In order to better understand the imaging of severe trauma in sport, this study describes the imaging modalities utilized to image athletes who experienced severe traumatic injuries at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games 2022, the distribution of these modalities in relation to the sporting facilities, and the types of injuries imaged in each sport. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis with descriptive tables and figures, performed on a single population (athletes of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games 2022). Results: Of the 2871 athletes in the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, there were 40 athletes with severe injuries who underwent medical imaging. MRI was used more often than Radiography or CT. Athletes at venues without MRI on site had to be transferred to adjacent hospitals for care. Alpine and Freestyle skiing athletes experienced the majority of severe traumatic injuries at this Olympic Games, and the majority of injuries were to the lower limb. Conclusions: Access to medical imaging for severely injured athletes is a critical consideration in the organization of any sporting event. MRI in particular is highly utilized in this population. The aims of this study were to investigate the practices of registered nurses and nurse aides at mealtimes in nursing homes (NHs) and to evaluate the attitudes of health care staff toward the nutritional care of older people. This is a multicenter cross-sectional study. The study involved a convenience sample of NH health care staff: physicians, registered nurses, and nurse aides. Data were collected on characteristics of the dining environment, organizational and nutritional care practices, staff-resident ratio, and staff activities during meals, using 2 questionnaires and staff attitudes were assessed with Staff Attitudes to Nutritional Nursing Care Geriatric Scale (SANN-G). Total score ranges from 18 to 90 points, with the following cutoffs: ≥72, positive attitude; ≤54, negative; and 55-71 points, neutral attitude. A total of 1267 workers from 29 NHs in northern Italy participated in the study. The most common nutritional assessment tool used by nurses was the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool. A median of 4.0 and 4.2 people (family caregivers, volunteers and staff) were present for feeding support, respectively, at lunch and dinner. A median of 2.5 and 2.0 staff members at lunch and at dinner, respectively, fed residents. Overall, 1024 health care workers responded to SANN-G of which 21.9% showed a negative attitude, 57.2% neutral, and 20.9% a positive attitude. Nurse aides (190/714) showed worse attitudes compared with registered nurses (20/204) and physicians (2/36); differences were statistically significant. Overall, the best attitudes were toward "habits," "interventions," and "individualization" of nutritional care. Staff who had received nutritional training (29.2%) had best attitudes. The results suggest that NHs should ensure adequate staff-resident ratio during meals, involving trained volunteers and relatives. This paper examines the impact of delegating decision-making authority to a biased and uninformed agent in a Bayesian persuasion model. We find that delegation can incentivize the sender to produce more information about the merits of the sender's proposed project. This is because an agent with a small negative bias requires more compelling evidence than the principal to implement the project. The improvement in evidence quality does not occur if the agent's bias is positive. When the informational benefits exist, delegation lead to higher organizational welfare than centralization. The informational benefits of delegation extend to cases where the principal delegates authority through a general delegation mechanism and when the agent's bias is privately known. • We analyze delegation in a Bayesian persuasion model. • Whether delegation has informational benefits depends on the agent's bias. • When informational benefits exist, delegation can be optimal. • Our results apply to general delegation mechanisms and private agent bias. The datification processes have driven National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) to explore new data sources with the goal of enhancing the quality of statistical information. The creation of innovative statistical products, known as Trusted Smart Statistics (TSS), necessitates new production processes that integrate with traditional methods, maintaining levels of relevance, quality, and trust.To facilitate this transition in statistical production, NSIs must embark on change management initiatives involving all organizational dimensions engaged in statistical processes. In the scientific debate, sustainability has assumed a broad connotation. This paper delves into the organizational aspect, viewing sustainability as a paradigm that encompasses all organizational areas and their interactions crucial to supporting the shift to new statistical production models, without compromising traditional practices.The paper explores the path taken by Istat in this direction, the organizational solutions implemented, the benefits realized, and investments in research and innovation initiated years ago on new data sources, aligning with developments in the European statistical community. Istat has been at the forefront of big data experimentation in Europe for over a decade, implementing a modernization program and establishing research infrastructures. Istat took a significant step by founding the TSS Center to guide organizational adaptation at technological, methodological, legal, communication, and human resources levels toward the new production system. Introducing an inclusive pilot project as an example, this paper at hand discusses how establishing and implementing inclusive elements and practices in social spaces raises new issues about the importance of theoretical reflection. The pilot project »Kommune Inklusiv« aimed to open up opportunities for participation for people at risk of exclusion in five contrastive social spaces under a broad concept of inclusion. During the course of the project, scientific analyses showed that socio-theoretical perspectives on inclusion were neglected in favour of a process-optimising control logic performed in the project, which proved to have a tangible impact on the success of (sub-)projects. This article therefore advocates to strengthen socio-theoretical perspectives, which can be of critical importance in the successful implementation of inclusive practices and projects. In particular, theoretical aspect of crisis, which according to Oevermann is always inherent in pedagogical action, can contribute to understand inclusion as a (pedagogical) negotiation practice and manifest necessary reflective processes. The subject of this paper is human resources in the field of science and technology in the Republic of Serbia. The aim is to establish the state and tendencies regarding the number and structure of human resources in the mentioned field. Accordingly, several research questions were defined. Open data (2018-2021) of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia were used. The results showed that the average number of employees who have either higher education or are employed in the field of science and technology was 991.9 thousand and on average their number was growing. The majority were women, whose number and share increased on average. The average number of employees who have higher education and are employed in the field of science and technology was 501.4 thousand and their number was growing on average, including people of both genders. The majority were women, whose share was constant with a tendency to minimal decrease. The average number of employees aged 15-74 who are employed in the field of science and technology was 731.2 thousand and on average their number was growing, including persons of both genders. The majority were women, whose share was constant with a tendency to minimal increase. The most important sector in the field of science and technology was education. It is concluded that there are positive tendencies regarding the number of human resources in the field of science and technology in Serbia, especially when it comes to women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Theories of race-making have recognized the confusion and contradiction in state-led racial projects but have not sufficiently elaborated their unintended consequences. Focusing on the relationship between the state, racial science, and immigration policy in the early twentieth century United States, this article illustrates how practical challenges in racial projects can jeopardize and thereby eventually trigger innovations in modes of racial governance. The Dillingham Commission (1907–1911) was a Congressional investigative commission that attempted to collect comprehensive data on immigrants in order to provide a scientific foundation of immigration policy. Specifically, the most powerful members of the Commission's executive committee wanted to single out Southern and Eastern Europeans (SEEs) and portray them as "undesirable races." Developing such a classification scheme, however, proved to be difficult, and the facts collected from the field did not support their goal, instead demonstrating that in many cases SEEs were not very different from other immigrants and their native-born counterparts. The idea for national quotas, as well as the theoretical foundation for the inclusion of SEEs, emerged in this process, not as an outcome of ideological design but as an unintended byproduct of knowledge production. Purpose: Evaluations of organizational-level interventions to prevent work-related illness have identified enabling factors, but knowledge of necessary and sufficient conditions for intervention success is needed. The aim was to identify difference-making factors that distinguish intervention groups with and without a positive intervention effect on sickness absence. Methods: An organizational-level intervention designed to decrease sickness absence by providing support from process facilitators was implemented at eight healthcare workplaces in Sweden between 2017 and 2018. We applied coincidence analysis (CNA) to analyze 34 factors and determine which factors were necessary and sufficient for a successful implementation of tailored interventional measures on an organizational level (dichotomous) and reduced sickness absence (trichotomous). Results: Two factors perfectly explained both the presence and absence of a successful implementation: "a high sense of urgency" and "good anchoring and participation from the strategic management". The presence of either of these factors alone was sufficient for successful implementation, whereas the joint absence of both conditions was necessary and sufficient for the absence of successful implementation and an intervention effect. In addition, high employee participation was both necessary and sufficient for a high intervention effect. For organizations without high employee participation, successful implementation led to a medium-effect size. Conclusions: This study identified participation as a difference-maker in the implementation process. Participation from different stakeholders turned out to be important in different phases. When implementing organizational-level interventions, high participation from both strategic management and employees appears to be crucial in terms of the intervention's effect on sickness absence. China's function in the establishment of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) has been underrated for a long time. It is argued either that China contributed little to the establishment or that its main effort could be accredited to Arthur N. Young, an American financial advisor to the Chinese government. A close examination of bilingual archival documents challenges these arguments. In fact, the Chinese government formulated proposals of several versions and managed to have most of its claims accepted at the Bretton Woods conference. More importantly, Chinese claims surpassed their own concerns and had a broader meaning taking into account the general quests of war‐torn and undeveloped countries. Revisiting this part of history can deliver a balance to the traditional Anglo‐American‐focused narrative regarding the IMF and WB and enrich the historical context to assist our understanding of China's current pursuits and conduct in the realm of multilateral economic cooperation. Encystment is a natural process that involves cyst formation, and at least some species of tardigrades can form cysts. However, the encystment process and cyst structure among tardigrades are still poorly understood. Despite some aspects of the encysted animals' systems organisation being examined in the past, the morphology and structure of the nervous system have never been thoroughly investigated. This study covers anatomical, histological and morphological details and proposes physiological aspects of the nervous system in encysted Thulinius ruffoi up to 11 months duration in encystment. This is the first record of the nervous system organisation in a species belonging to the family Doryphoribiidae. The cyst formation results in morphological changes in the nervous system. It comprises central and peripheral elements, which may be observable even after many months since the cyst formation. Collaborative recall synchronizes downstream individual retrieval processes, giving rise to collective organization. However, little is known about whether particular stimulus features (e.g., semantic relatedness) are necessary for constructing collective organization and how group dynamics (e.g., reconfiguration) moderates it. We leveraged novel quantitative measures and a rich dataset reported in recent articles to address, (a) whether collective organization emerges even for semantically unrelated material and (b) how group reconfiguration—changing partners from one recall to the next—influences collective organization. Participants studied unrelated words and completed three consecutive recalls in one of three conditions: Always recalling individually (III), collaborating with the same partners twice before recalling alone (CCI), or collaborating with different group members during two initial recalls, before recalling alone (CRI). Collective organization increased significantly following any collaboration (CCI or CRI), relative to "groups" who never collaborated (III). Interestingly, collaborating repeatedly with the same partners (CCI) did not increase collective organization compared to reconfigured groups, irrespective of the reference group structure (from Recall 1 or 2). Individuals, however, did tend to base their final individual retrieval on the most recent group recall. We discuss how the fundamental processes that underlie dynamic social interactions align the cognitive processes of many, laying the foundation for other collective phenomena, including shared biases, attitudes, and beliefs. Ever since its establishment, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has positioned itself as representative of a 'new international order' in contrast to the US-led 'old order'. This article argues that analysing the SCO's response to international crises as practical implementations of its 'new international order' offers crucial insights into China's vision for international relations. To that end, it examines the organisation's response to crises in Afghanistan and Syria, outlining what kind of order the SCO propagates and what this means when acted out. Referring to failures in policy-driven public governance research this paper looks at strategising in higher education. It expands horizons for understanding university strategies in a more nuanced way than hitherto has been done. Deploying systems theory, it shows how different temporalities co-exist in strategies and how their change reflects the university's capacity to meet future contingencies. Extending the current research on strategising, the paper uses the present's past, the present's future, the future's present and the future's future as temporal categories to understand strategies. It shows how strategies evolve from traditional linear planning orientation to a novel potentiality-seeking mode with unique meanings attached to unknown futures. It claims that universities develop such responsive contingency awareness to construct a leeway for their self-governance in the face of unexpected future conditions. Governments the world over require scientific knowledge to inform policy makers' decision-making processes. The recontextualization of this information for nonscientific audiences has received much attention, though it has primarily focused on publicly available texts. Little is known about the discursive nature of how science is transformed and repurposed and the confidential writing performed by boundary organizations that are working between science and policy. This ethnographic study explores the collaborative discursive activity involved in efforts by a boundary organization—the Council of Canadian Academies—to recontextualize science for policy makers. The analysis opens the discursive black box of the genre system and intermediary genre sets involved in one project, which led to the publication and distribution of the boundary object of an advisory report, Older Canadians on the Move. I claim that the discursive boundary work involves a complex genre system containing several sequential genred activities through which science is transformed and a boundary object created. Background: Accurate estimation of the specialized pediatric palliative care (PPC) burden and the definition of the extent and quality of PPC service in Italy represent urgent needs to enable the proper allocation of PPC resources and the definition of prevention and educational plans. The PalliPed project aimed to provide the first comprehensive assessment of the characteristics of Italian patients requiring PPC, the quality and extent of regional PPC networks/facilities, and the number of dedicated resources. In this paper, we present the results of the second part of the project, regarding the implementation and quality of PPC services in Italy. Methods: The PalliPed study had an observational cross-sectional design. All Italian specialized PPC centers/facilities were invited to participate in the project and complete a survey on the characteristics of PPC centers/facilities in different care settings, reporting data as of 24 October 2022. Data were collected online. Results: 19 PPC specialized centers/facilities from 12 Italian regions and two autonomous provinces responded to the survey. Among them, 11 are regional referral centers. Seven Italian regions out of 20 reported no PPC centers/facilities, mainly in central-southern Italy. Less than half (45%) of the regional referral centers cover the entire regional territory, and three offer 24/7 service. Ten centers have a dedicated team. Half of the eight non-referral centers offer 24/7 service and have a dedicated team. A total of 1,092 patients were reported by 18 centers as of 24 October 2022. Over the years, an increasing number of patients has been reported, rising from 1,202 (2019) to 1,544 (2021). The dedicated staff is inadequate, and most healthcare providers are not recognized at an institutional level. A shortage of 'young' staff and a lack of specific training was reported, particularly among nurses (77% had no training in PPC). Conclusions: The results obtained show how training, information, and research interventions are still necessary for the reorganization of the available resources and definition of proper strategies to respond dynamically to the new emerging needs of these populations. At the same time, our study represents a first step in defining a national registry of PPC models, useful for monitoring evolutions, and critical issues and planning any new or corrective strategy. Recent work has recognized a gradient-like organization in cortical function, spanning from primary sensory to transmodal cortices. It has been suggested that this axis is aligned with regional differences in neurotransmitter expression. Given the abundance of dopamine D1-receptors (D1DR), and its importance for modulation and neural gain, we tested the hypothesis that D1DR organization is aligned with functional architecture, and that inter-regional relationships in D1DR co-expression modulate functional cross talk. Using the world's largest dopamine D1DR-PET and MRI database (N = 180%, 50% female), we demonstrate that D1DR organization follows a unimodal-transmodal hierarchy, expressing a high spatial correspondence to the principal gradient of functional connectivity. We also demonstrate that individual differences in D1DR density between unimodal and transmodal regions are associated with functional differentiation of the apices in the cortical hierarchy. Finally, we show that spatial co-expression of D1DR primarily modulates couplings within, but not between, functional networks. Together, our results show that D1DR co-expression provides a biomolecular layer to the functional organization of the brain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONAim: During the COVID-19 pandemic, many community organizations offering services to people with disabilities (PWD) changed their service delivery, switching from in-person to remote services. However, little is known about what it was like for organizations to quickly pivot their service delivery. The study explored barriers and facilitators to access community services for PWD and identified potential improvements to these services.Methods: The study used a mixed method, multiple case study design, which included a convenience sample of 27 participants recruited from four community organizations delivering services to PWD. Participating staff and members participated in six different focus groups and completed a questionnaire about their level of satisfaction regarding the evolution of the services. Inductive thematic analysis was conducted on the focus group data and the data from the questionnaires were descriptively analyzed.Results: The thematic analyses revealed four themes: “Succeeding in adapting the interventions to continue providing services”, “Enjoying a lot of new things about the new online modality”, “Key elements that have facilitated the transition” and “Facing some difficulties implementing online services”. The median satisfaction score demonstrated that the participants were satisfied with the services. The success of these organizational changes relied on the adoption of new methods and approaches to service delivery.Conclusion: Through this study, barriers and facilitators that the organizations and their beneficiaries have experienced during the pandemic were identified as well as suggestions for improvement. This paper is concerned with the organization of responses to informings. Using Conversation Analysis, it will show that different receipting practices, including both embodied and vocal ones, display differences in scope in response to informings. With these differences in scope, recipients of informings can signal to the informing party that they receipted either the just preceding part of the informing or the entire informing. The positions of these practices follow a typology of four dimensions: embodied vs. vocal, token vs. phrasal, semantically empty vs. semantically filled and rising vs. falling intonation. When an informing is receipted by different practices of these pairs, the first type will be used for small-scope recipiency while the second type will be used for large scope. In this study we identify a process of "entrainment" around open source software (OSS) development release cycles to capture patterns of self-organized task allocation among developers. We conducted an abductive, computationally intensive study of eight OSS projects, using relational event modeling to analyze 1,169,489 actions covering 93 major software releases. The process of entrainment that we identify involves three task allocation mechanisms: (1) developer-issue inertia, (2) developer contribution frequency, and (3) issue popularity. Our analysis demonstrates that these mechanisms and the phases of the release cycle entrain each other. Before a major release, developers engage in a concentrated mobilization phase, whereby they democratize development activity and increasingly allocate community contributions to the set of issues related to the release. After a major release, the extended cleanup phase garners a greater share of development work from recently highly active developers and dilutes the activity of these developers across a wider range of issues. Our theorizing suggests that major releases constitute important events around which OSS communities self-organize and we characterize how this occurs. Our research contributes to theorizing on organizing in OSS communities by explaining how self-organizing task allocation interacts with release cycles through the mechanism of entrainment. Organisms act stochastically. A not uncommon view in the ecological literature is that this is mainly due to the observer having insufficient information or a stochastic environment—and not partly because organisms themselves respond with inherent unpredictability. In this study, I compile the evidence that contradicts that view. Organisms generate uncertainty internally, which results in irreducible stochastic responses. I consider why: for instance, stochastic responses are associated with greater adaptability to changing environments and resource availability. Over longer timescales, biologically generated uncertainty influences behavior, evolution, and macroecological processes. Indeed, it could be stated that organisms are systems defined by the internal generation, magnification, and record-keeping of uncertainty as inputs to responses. Important practical implications arise if organisms can indeed be defined by an association with specific classes of inherent uncertainty: not least that isolating those signatures then provides a potential means for detecting life, for considering the forms that life could theoretically take, and for exploring the wider limits to how life might become distributed. While there is evidence that organizational supports may lead to better employee health, research on implementing such organizational supports is lacking. This research sought to understand organizational supports and implementation of those supports using an Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods design approach. Employee survey responses (n = 202) were used to classify organizations into "high" and "low" categories for employee-reported health behavior improvement, agreement, and readiness for implementing change. For the qualitative phase of research (organization-level), semi-structured interviews were conducted with organization leads, and data were analyzed through constant comparative analysis procedure. Analyses sought to identify differences between "high" versus "low" organizations. In addition, the researcher used the "high" and "low" classifications to further review themes that emerged, to determine where there may be differences in organizations classified as "high" versus "low." Study results found the following nine themes to explain how organizations can improve implementing organizational supports: provide a contracted wellness program, formalized programming, and wellness incentives; create a culture of wellness in the organization; provide consistency in the supports offered; provide clear communication to employees; utilize leadership role modeling to show support; focus on leadership support that ensures organizational supports are implemented and sustained; and work to combat employee hesitation of organizational supports. Indirect interactions are pivotal in the evolution of interacting species and the assembly of populations and communities. Nevertheless, despite recently being investigated in plant–animal mutualism at the community level, indirect interactions have not been studied in resource-mediated mutualisms involving plant individuals that share different animal species as partners within a population (i.e., individual-based networks). Here, we analyzed an individual-based ant–plant network to evaluate how resource properties affect indirect interaction patterns and how changes in indirect links leave imprints in the network across multiple levels of network organization. Using complementary analytical approaches, we described the patterns of indirect interactions at the micro-, meso-, and macro-scale. We predicted that plants offering intermediate levels of nectar quantity and quality interact with more diverse ant assemblages. The increased number of ant species would cause a higher potential for indirect interactions in all scales evaluated. We found that nectar properties modified patterns of indirect interactions of plant individuals that share mutualistic partners, leaving imprints across different network scales. To our knowledge, this is the first study tracking indirect interactions in multiple scales within an individual-based network. We show that functional traits of interacting species, such as nectar properties, may lead to changes in indirect interactions, which could be tracked across different levels of the network organization evaluated. The active traffic control in the merging area, which takes ramp arrival control as the main body, is the main means adopted by the expressway and urban expressway to improve the capacity and traffic safety of the weaving area. In this study, the historical real traffic data and the optimized theoretical model of speed fluctuation are used to build the vehicle arrival model in the process of congestion and queue weaving, and the optimal control scheme under the mixed control decision is quantitatively analyzed. Through the optimized simulation platform, the vehicle trajectory, distribution and conflict status are obtained, and the actual effect of the conclusion is verified. This study takes Qinhong Interchange as an example to demonstrate the model test, and verify the optimization effect of ramp single control and ramp main line mixed control under the optimization effect. The results show that the conflict under ramp control is reduced by 52. 5% and the vehicle delay is increased by 20. 5% compared with the uncontrolled state. The conflict and vehicle delay under hybrid control are reduced by 68. 1% and 12. 0%, respectively. It can be seen that the control model has obvious optimization effect on ramp traffic safety and efficiency. One of the most effective control strategies is the ramp mainline mixed control, which leads to significant improvements in ramp traffic efficiency and traffic safety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Political parties use electoral clientelism to augment their support in many societies around the world. Extensive research shows how parties use clientelism and how citizens' attitudes towards clientelism are shaped by broad social and economic factors. However, we know little about how political parties can influence people's attitudes towards clientelism. To address this gap in the literature, this article analyzes the extent to which the development of a party organization and the interactions of citizens with these organizations can favor the acceptance of electoral clientelism as a practice of the political game. The analysis uses individual-level data from an original nationwide survey conducted in 2021 on a national representative sample of 4313 respondents in Romania. The results indicate that political parties, through their activities and networks, are not only main users of clientelism but also important drivers for its acceptance in society. Returning to the old ways of micromanaging, control and expecting workers to be in the office five days a week are no longer constraints that many people are willing to endure. At the same time, the role of managers and supervisors is dramatically changing, calling on them to create environments in which people feel trusted to make decisions, feel included, valued and seen for their contributions, and have a greater sense of authority, autonomy and leadership to do their best work, no matter what their level or their role. In short, people want greater agency. Agency is defined as... all people, of all identities, roles, levels, and tenure have the power, influence, and voice to make choices and decisions related to their jobs and the betterment of the organization. Agency is the next transformation needed for individuals, teams and organizations to be higher performing. Finding ways to evaluate managerial competencies is essential for understanding how individuals can contribute to the advancement of organizations. The study aims to develop an up-to-date competencybased framework, validate a new assessment scale, and outline methodological guidelines for the development of future scales. The validation process consisted of four main phases, involving an extensive literature review, analysis of internal data of a company, development of a competency-based model, and its validation through qualitative and quantitative approaches. The comprehensive managerial competency-based framework leverages a continuous dialogue between theoretical knowledge and practical perspective. The new scale measures four competencies and eighteen skills/abilities/dispositions. Moreover, the innovative measurement format contrasts social desirability effects, obtaining information on workers' current level and potential growth. The instrument can be applied in different contexts and provides data for several human resource (HR) processes. Background: Digitalization transforms the way in which interdependent work is coordinated, especially in healthcare settings. This work deepens the effect of teleconsultation use on health professionals' coordination. For this aim, we rely on Relational Coordination Theory (RCT), which explores coordination as an interactive process among group participants within the context of task interdependency. Methods: We collected data through an online survey administered to Italian specialist doctors between March and April 2023. 489 complete answers were gathered. Hypotheses have been tested through Structural Equation Modelling. Results: We found that teleconsultation frequency of use has a positive and significant effect on both components of relational coordination, confirming our hypotheses. Conclusions: Theoretically, this research contributes to our understanding of the effect of digitally mediated coordination mechanisms on relational coordination. In practice, we shed light on the organizational implications of telemedicine under a novel perspective, focusing on the role of professional interactions in digitally mediated work and providing useful elements for the organizational design of telemedicine. Background: In the rapid development in prehospital medicine the awareness of the many challenges in prehospital care is important as it highlights which areas need improvement and where special attention during education and training should be focused. The purpose of this study is to identify challenges that physicians face when working in the prehospital environment. The research question is thus; what challenges do physicians face when working in prehospital care? Method: This is a qualitative study with an inductive approach and is based on individual interviews. The interviews were analyzed using the Classic Grounded Theory (GT) method as an approach. The interviews were conducted as semi-structured interviews via the digital platform Zoom during winter / early spring 2022. Results: Challenges for prehospital physicians can be understood as a process that involves a balancing act between different factors linked to the extreme environment in which they operate. This environment creates unique challenges not usually encountered in routine hospital practice, which results in trade-offs that they would not otherwise be faced with. Their individual situation needs to be balanced against organizational conditions, which means, among other things, that their medical decisions must be made based on limited information as a result of the constraints that exist in the prehospital environment. They must, both as individuals and as part of a team, manoeuvre in time and space for decision-making and practical tasks. This theory of balancing different entities is based on four themes; thus the theory is the relation between the four themes: leadership, environment, emotion management and organization. Conclusions: With the help of previous studies and what we have found, it is reasonable to review what training is needed before starting to work prehospital as a physician. Background: Despite recent financial and policy support for harm reduction in the USA, information on the types of workers within organizations who design, implement, and actualize harm reduction services remains nascent. Little is known about how variability in the harm reduction workforce impacts referrals and linkages to other community supports. This exploratory mixed-methods study asked: (1) Who constitutes the harm reduction workforce? (2) Who provides behavioral health services within harm reduction organizations? (3) Are referral services offered and by whom? (4) Do referrals differ by type of harm reduction worker? Methods: Purposive sampling techniques were used to distribute an electronic survey to U.S.-based harm reduction organizations. Descriptive statistics were conducted. Multivariate binary logistic regression models examined the associations (a) between the odds of the referral processes at harm reduction organizations and (b) between the provision of behavioral health services and distinct types of organizational staff. Qualitative data were analyzed using a hybrid approach of inductive and thematic analysis. Results: Data from 41 states and Washington, D.C. were collected (N = 168; 48% response rate). Four primary types of workers were identified: community health/peer specialists (87%); medical/nursing staff (55%); behavioral health (49%); and others (34%). About 43% of organizations had a formal referral process; among these, only 32% had follow-up protocols. Qualitative findings highlighted the broad spectrum of behavioral health services offered and a broad behavioral health workforce heavily reliant on peers. Unadjusted results from multivariate models found that harm reduction organizations were more than 5 times more likely (95% CI [1.91, 13.38]) to have a formal referral process and 6 times more likely (95% CI [1.74, 21.52]) to have follow-up processes when behavioral health services were offered. Organizations were more than two times more likely (95% CI [1.09, 4.46]) to have a formal referral process and 2.36 (95% CI [1.11, 5.0]) times more likely to have follow-up processes for referrals when behavioral health providers were included. Conclusions: The composition of the harm reduction workforce is occupationally diverse. Understanding the types of services offered, as well as the workforce who provides those services, offers valuable insights into staffing and service delivery needs of frontline organizations working to reduce morbidity and mortality among those who use substances. Visual foraging is a variant of visual search, consisting of searching for an undetermined number of targets among distractors (e.g., looking for various LEGO pieces in a box). Under non-exhaustive tasks, the observer scans the display, picking those targets needed, not necessarily all of them, before leaving the search. To understand how the organization of such natural foraging tasks works, several measures of spatial scanning and organization have been proposed in the exhaustive foraging literature: best-r, intertarget distances, PAO, and target intersections. In the present study, we apply these measures and new Bayesian indexes to determine how the time course of visual foraging is organized in a dynamic non-exhaustive paradigm. In a large sample of observers (279 participants, 4–25 years old), we compare feature and conjunction foraging and explore how factors like set size and time course, not previously tested in exhaustive foraging, might affect search organization in non-exhaustive dynamic tasks. The results replicate previous findings showing younger observers' searching being less organized, feature conditions being more organized than conjunction conditions, and organization leading to a more effective search. Interestingly, observers tend to be less organized as set size increases, and search is less organized within a patch as it advances in time: Search organization decreases when search termination is coming, suggesting organization measures as potential clues to understand quitting rules in search. This essay addresses the Secreti diversi et miracolosi, one of the many 'books of secrets' (collections of medical and craft recipes) which crowded the sixteenth‐century Venetian book market. First published in 1563 and spuriously ascribed to the physician Gabriele Falloppia, this book was already subject to significant structural changes in its second edition (1565). The editors of the first and second editions, Giovanni Antonio Di Maria and Borgaruccio Borgarucci, discussed their respective choices concerning the arrangement of the collection in their prefatory letters. This essay examines the prefatory and organizational paratexts of both editions, which reveal a tension between the readability of the book and the reliability of its contents. It argues that the different paratextual strategies pursued by Di Maria and Borgarucci had a profound impact on the contours of 'Falloppia"s literary identity, the functions envisioned for the collection, and the epistemological value of the recipes therein. The editorial history of the Secreti diversi also prompts broader considerations on the popularity of books of secrets, showing how this was not only a matter of content but also, and often more importantly, how that content was presented to the readers. Studies have argued that gridlock in the multilateral trade regime has contributed to processes of regime shifting and creation through the expansion of regional and bilateral agreements. Scholars have long debated the impact of such agreements on the multilateral regime exploring their effect on the incentives of insiders, countries that have signed such agreements, and outsiders, countries that are excluded from such agreements. Based on interviews with officials from sixty member states at the World Trade Organisation, this paper examines this issue by analysing the behaviour of insiders and outsiders in the multilateral trade regime. While analysis of trade and investment diversion might lead us to predict that outsiders will have a stronger interest in the multilateral regime, I find that insiders, particularly middle powers, are key drivers of attempts to end the stalemate in the World Trade Organisation by championing what became known as Joint Statement Initiatives. I explain this position by the systemic support of middle powers to the multilateral regime and by the shift in trade governance towards deep integration issues in which discrimination against outsiders is infeasible or costly. Immunization is a fundamental process for preventing several communicable diseases, being considered an important public health instrument as it can ensure specific and lasting protection for individuals, in addition to being the most economical form of intervention, as it reduces treatment costs related to infectious diseases. This study aims to evaluate the organizational structure of vaccination rooms in the city of Crato-CE, investigating whether the immunization sector complies with the standards recommended by the Ministry of Health and what are the difficulties that make the correct organization of vaccination rooms unfeasible. It is a descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, developed in 13 vaccination rooms of the Family Health Strategies, in the urban area, in the city of Crato-CE. To collect data, a checklist composed of four topics relating to the organization of vaccination rooms was used. To analyze the data, we used statistical methods with discussions of the collected data, mainly through tables. The results showed that 76.92% of the units had an exclusive refrigerator. 61.53% changed the coils at the beginning of the afternoon shift. It is noteworthy that 69.23% had two coolers and none had thermometers to monitor the coolers. These are factors that can contribute to the exposure of immunobiological to temperature variations and consequent inactivation of immunogenic components. To minimize these problems, it is recommended to purchase equipment for preserving vaccines and monitoring them through continuing education, especially systematic supervision of vaccinators' activities.
