Abstract

Abstract In minimal lepton flavour violation Type-III see-saw models the flavour structure of the couplings of the triplet fermions to the Standard Model leptons can be reconstructed from the neutrino mass matrix and lepton number violation is very suppressed. Here, we explore the possibility of imposing bounds on this class of models with results of existing LHC searches and we quantify how the information on flavour and charge of the produced leptons is important for maximal sensitivity. With this aim we obtain the bounds which can be derived from the Run I search for events which contain two charged leptons (either electron or muons of equal or opposite sign), two jets from a hadronically decaying W boson and large missing transverse momentum. We find that using the information on charge and flavour of the leptons in the above final state it is possible to unambiguously rule out this scenario with triplet masses lighter than 300 GeV at 95% CL. The same analysis allows to exclude triplet masses up to 480 GeV at 95% CL for normal ordering of neutrino masses and specific values of a Majorana CP phase currently undetermined by neutrino physics. We also show that it is not possible to put an unambiguous bound on the mass of the new states if the flavor and charge information is not condsidered.

Abstract

This chapter of the 'Flavor in the era of LHC' workshop report discusses flavor-related issues in the production and decays of heavy states at the LHC at high momentum transfer Q, both from the experimental and the theoretical perspective. We review top quark physics, and discuss the flavor aspects of several extensions of the standard model, such as supersymmetry, little Higgs models or models with extra dimensions. This includes discovery aspects, as well as the measurement of several properties of these heavy states. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2000-04-01 We study single production of first generation leptoquarks in association with e± at the Fermilab Tevatron. We focus our attention on final states exhibiting an e+e- pair and jets, and perform a detailed analysis of the signal and background. The single leptoquark production cross section depends on the leptoquark Yukawa coupling to lepton-quark pairs and we show that the study of this mode can extend considerably the leptoquark search for a large range of these couplings. In fact, for Yukawa couplings of electromagnetic strength, the combined results of the Tevatron experiments can exclude the existence of leptoquarks with masses up to 260-285 (370-425) GeV at the run I (run II), depending on their type. ©2000 The American Physical Society.
