Abstract

Стаття містить короткий виклад основних результатів реалізації наукового проєкту «Правові та організаційні аспекти використання аерокосмічної зйомки для дослідження й охорони археологічної спадщини України», виконуваного в межах Програми НАН України «Гранти НАН України дослідницьким лабораторіям/групам молодих вчених НАН України для проведення досліджень за пріоритетними напрямами розвитку науки і техніки 2020-2021 рр.». У роботі коротко окреслено сучасний стан та перспективи розвитку законодавства України стосовно охорони та дослідження об’єктів археологічної спадщини, а також представлено результати практичної моніторингової роботи з використанням аерокосмічної зйомки, що передбачали: 1) фіксацію стану збереження пам’яток національного значення; 2) дослідження зон розмиву дніпровських водосховищ. Проведення практичних робіт дозволило авторському колективу виявити переваги використання космічної та аеро-зйомки з метою запровадження всеохопного моніторингу археологічної спадщини, а також виявити проблеми, які існують у системі організації та правовому регулюванні відносин у сфері охорони та дослідження археологічної спадщини в Україні, і розробити конкретні пропозиції з їхнього вирі шення. Новаторський характер дослідження полягає в тому, що авторському колективу вдалось концептуалізувати міждисциплінарний підхід до відносин з організації̈ використання дистанційного зондування Землі для дослідження й охорони археологічної̈ спадщини. У межах проєкту було поєднано археологію, космічне право, міжнародне та національне право культурної спадщини, матеріальне та процесуальне кримінальне, господарське та адміністративне право, окремі технічні питання використання сучасного обладнання для здійснення аерокосмічного моніторингу. Такий підхід дозволив розробити цілісне теоретичне підґрунтя для удосконалення правового регулювання та організаційного забезпечення відносин у сфері використання аерокосмічної зйомки для дослідження та охорони археологічної спадщини України.

6. The main results of the research project «Legal and organizational foundations of using the aerospace survey for the research and protection of archaeological heritage of Ukraine»

Abstract

The present article summarizes the main results of the research project «Legal and organizational foundations of using the aerospace survey for the research and protection of archaeological heritage», implemented within the grant of the NAS of Ukraine for research laboratories/groups of young scholars of the NAS of Ukraine to conduct research in priority areas of science and technology in 2020-2021. The paper briefly outlines the current state and prospects of the development of Ukrainian legislation on protection and research of archaeological heritage, as well as the results of practical monitoring work using aerospace survey, which provided: 1) fixing the state of preservation of the national objects of archeological heritage; 2) research of the erosion zones of the Dnieper reservoirs. The practical work allowed the author’s team to identify the benefits of using remote sensing survey to introduce comprehensive monitoring of archaeological heritage, as well as to identify problems in the organization and legal regulation of relations in the field of protection and research of archaeological heritage in Ukraine; and to elaborate proposals for their solution. The innovative nature of the research is that the author’s team managed to conceptualize an interdisciplinary approach to the organization of the use of remote sensing of the Earth for research and protection of archaeological heritage. The project combined archeology, space law, international and national cultural heritage law, substantive and procedural criminal, economic and administrative law, some technical issues of using modern equipment for aerospace monitoring. This approach allowed to develop a holistic theoretical basis for improving the legal regulation and organizational support of relations in the use of aerospace survey for research and protection of archaeological heritage of Ukraine.

Abstract

We suggest a new protocol for the information reconciliation stage of quantum key distribution based on polar codes. The suggested approach is based on the blind technique, which is proved to be useful for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. We show that the suggested protocol outperforms the blind reconciliation with LDPC codes, especially when there are high fluctuations in quantum bit error rate (QBER)., 6 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

PANDA (anti-proton annihiliation at Darmstadt) is planned to be one of the four main experiments at the future international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. It is going to address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using cooled antiproton beams with a high intensity and and momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c. PANDA is designed to reach a maximum luminosity of 2 × 1032 cm−2 s. Most of the physics programs require an excellent particle identification (PID). The PID of hadronic states at the forward endcap of the target spectrometer will be done by a fast and compact Cherenkov detector that uses the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) principle. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 5° to 22° and to provide a separation power for the separation of charged pions and kaons up to 3 standard deviations (s.d.) for particle momenta up to 4 GeV/c in order to cover the important particle phase space. This document describes the technical design and the expected performance of the novel PANDA disc DIRC detector that has not been used in any other high energy physics experiment before. The performance has been studied with Monte-Carlo simulations and various beam tests at DESY and CERN. The final design meets all PANDA requirements and guarantees sufficient safety margins.

Abstract

Основною задачею оборонного планування можна вважати досягнення неприйнятності можливих втрат для ймовірного агресора. Вирішення цієї задачі потребує гармонійного використання усіх можливостей, сил та здібностей держави та народу: ментальних, політичних, економічних, військових, наукових, освітніх, промислових, технологічних, тощо. На цей час у розвинених країнах усе більш розповсюдженим стає оборонне планування на основі спроможностей. Згідно з Рекомендаціями з оборонного планування України "Спроможність – це здатність структурної одиниці … або сукупності сил і засобів виконувати певні завдання … за певних умов обстановки, ресурсного забезпечення та відповідно до встановлених стандартів". Оборонне планування на основі спроможностей полягає в зосередженні зусиль не на створенні нових організаційних структур для забезпечення противаги відповідному бойовому потенціалу противника, а на розвитку спроможностей військ (сил) для ефективного виконання визначених завдань. Метою даної роботи є порівняння сучасного стану оцінювання спроможностей, як складової оборонного планування в Україні, з рівнем національного досвіду, досягнутим у США.

Abstract

The antiproton experiment PANDA at FAIR is designed to bring hadron physics to a new level in terms of scope, precision and accuracy. In this work, its unique capability for studies of hyperons is outlined. We discuss ground-state hyperons as diagnostic tools to study non-perturbative aspects of the strong interaction, and fundamental symmetries. New simulation studies have been carried out for two benchmark hyperon-antihyperon production channels: $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Lambda}\Lambda$ and $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Xi}^+\Xi^-$. The results, presented in detail in this paper, show that hyperon-antihyperon pairs from these reactions can be exclusively reconstructed with high efficiency and very low background contamination. In addition, the polarisation and spin correlations have been studied, exploiting the weak, self-analysing decay of hyperons and antihyperons. Two independent approaches to the finite efficiency have been applied and evaluated: one standard multidimensional efficiency correction approach, and one efficiency independent approach. The applicability of the latter was thoroughly evaluated for all channels, beam momenta and observables. The standard method yields good results in all cases, and shows that spin observables can be studied with high precision and accuracy already in the first phase of data taking with PANDA., Comment: 26 pages, 16 figures. Abstract

The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany, provides unique possibilities for a new generation of hadron-, nuclear- and atomic physics experiments. The future antiProton ANnihilations at DArmstadt (PANDA or $$\overline{\mathrm{P}}$$ P ¯ ANDA) experiment at FAIR will offer a broad physics programme, covering different aspects of the strong interaction. Understanding the latter in the non-perturbative regime remains one of the greatest challenges in contemporary physics. The antiproton–nucleon interaction studied with PANDA provides crucial tests in this area. Furthermore, the high-intensity, low-energy domain of PANDA allows for searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, e.g. through high precision symmetry tests. This paper takes into account a staged approach for the detector setup and for the delivered luminosity from the accelerator. The available detector setup at the time of the delivery of the first antiproton beams in the HESR storage ring is referred to as the Phase One setup. The physics programme that is achievable during Phase One is outlined in this paper.

Abstract

Object and purpose of research. This paper discusses marine robotic systems. The purpose of the study is to work out the methods that would ensure stealth of these systems, which is a pre-requisite for improving their operational efficiency. Materials and methods. This work is based on system-approach methodology and continues previous studies, analyzing possible ways to follow in ensuring stealth of marine objects. Main results. The paper discusses capabilities of modern hardware for detection and engagement of marine robots, identifies operational peculiarities of marine robotic systems that make it necessary to develop stealth requirements for theirelements, as well as suggests a classification of performance parameters for marine robots taking into account their stealth, and also suggests appropriate structure for the mathematical models designed to give an idea on how to perform stealth assessments of marine robots, how much their operational efficiency is stealth-dependent and what criteria to use for this assessment. The study also proposes formulations for stealth requirements to marine robotic systems, as well as recommendsoptimal stealth assessment procedure for marine robots so as to make them compliant with requirements. It identifies key challenges to solve in stealth design of marine robotics that would make these systems more efficient. Conclusion. The results of this work can be used as basis for theoretical studies on achievable stealth of new marine robots, as well as for development of stealth requirements to their elements and the ways to meet them, so as to ensure high operational efficiency of these systems.

Abstract

Quantum key distribution (QKD) offers a practical solution for secure communication between two distinct parties via a quantum channel and an authentic public channel. In this work, we consider different approaches to the quantum bit error rate (QBER) estimation at the information reconciliation stage of the post-processing procedure. For reconciliation schemes employing low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, we develop a novel syndrome-based QBER estimation algorithm. The algorithm suggested is suitable for irregular LDPC codes and takes into account punctured and shortened bits. Testing our approach in a real QKD setup, we show that an approach combining the proposed algorithm with conventional QBER estimation techniques allows one to improve the accuracy of the QBER estimation., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

Nowadays, one of the main issues of the superconducting thin film resonant cavities is the Cu surface preparation. A better understanding of the impact of copper surface preparation on the morphological, superconductive (SC) and RF properties of the coating, is mandatory in order to improve the performances of superconducting cavities by coating techniques. ARIES H2020 collaboration includes a specific work package (WP15) to study the influence of Cu surface polishing on the SRF performances of Nb coatings that involves a team of 8 research groups from 7 different countries. In the present work, a comparison of 4 different polishing processes for Cu (Tumbling, EP, SUBU, EP+SUBU) is presented through the evaluation of the SC and morphological properties of Nb thin film coated on Cu planar samples and QPR samples, polished with different procedures. Effects of laser annealing on Nb thin films have also been studied.

Abstract

Quantum key distribution (QKD) enables unconditionally secure communication between distinct parties using a quantum channel and an authentic public channel. Reducing the portion of quantum-generated secret keys, that is consumed during the authentication procedure, is of significant importance for improving the performance of QKD systems. In the present work, we develop a lightweight authentication protocol for QKD based on a `ping-pong' scheme of authenticity check for QKD. An important feature of this scheme is that the only one authentication tag is generated and transmitted during each of the QKD post-processing rounds. For the tag generation purpose, we design an unconditionally secure procedure based on the concept of key recycling. The procedure is based on the combination of almost universal$_2$ polynomial hashing, XOR universal$_2$ Toeplitz hashing, and one-time pad (OTP) encryption. We demonstrate how to minimize both the length of the recycled key and the size of the authentication key, that is required for OTP encryption. As a result, in real case scenarios, the portion of quantum-generated secret keys that is consumed for the authentication purposes is below 1\%. Abstract

In this work, we consider a probability representation of quantum dynamics for finite-dimensional quantum systems with the use of pseudostochastic maps acting on true probability distributions. These probability distributions are obtained via symmetric informationally complete positive operator-valued measure (SIC-POVM) and can be directly accessible in an experiment. We provide SIC-POVM probability representations both for unitary evolution of the density matrix governed by the von Neumann equation and dissipative evolution governed by Markovian master equation. In particular, we discuss whereas the quantum dynamics can be simulated via classical random processes in terms of the conditions for the master equation generator in the SIC-POVM probability representation. We construct practical measures of nonclassicality non-Markovianity of quantum processes and apply them for studying experimental realization of quantum circuits realized with the IBM cloud quantum processor., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

The $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ (anti-Proton ANnihiliation at DArmstadt) experiment will be one of the four flagship experiments at the new international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ will address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using high-intensity cooled antiproton beams with momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c and a design luminosity of up to 2 × 1032 cm−2 s−1. Excellent particle identification (PID) is crucial to the success of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ physics program. Hadronic PID in the barrel region of the target spectrometer will be performed by a fast and compact Cherenkov counter using the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) technology. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 22° to 140° and will provide at least 3 standard deviations (s.d.) π/K separation up to 3.5 GeV/c, matching the expected upper limit of the final state kaon momentum distribution from simulation. This documents describes the technical design and the expected performance of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ Barrel DIRC detector. The design is based on the successful BaBar DIRC with several key improvements. The performance and system cost were optimized in detailed detector simulations and validated with full system prototypes using particle beams at GSI and CERN. The final design meets or exceeds the PID goal of clean π/K separation with at least 3 s.d. over the entire phase space of charged kaons in the Barrel DIRC.

Abstract

Bound nuclear systems with two units of strangeness are still poorly known despite their importance for many strong interaction phenomena. Stored antiprotons beams in the GeV range represent an unparalleled factory for various hyperon-antihyperon pairs. Their outstanding large production probability in antiproton collisions will open the floodgates for a series of new studies of systems which contain two or even more units of strangeness at the PANDA experiment at FAIR. For the first time, high resolution gamma-spectroscopy of doubly strange Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei will be performed, thus complementing measurements of ground state decays of Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei at J-PARC or possible decays of particle unstable hypernuclei in heavy ion reactions. High resolution spectroscopy of multistrange Xi(-) -atoms will be feasible and even the production of Omega(-) -atoms will be within reach. The latter might open the door to the vertical bar S vertical bar = 3 world in strangeness nuclear physics, by the study of the hadronic Omega(-) -nucleus interaction. For the first time it will be possible to study the behavior of Xi(+) in nuclear systems under well controlled conditions. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

Ultra-wideband microwave filters with high frequency-selective properties have been developed by means of electrodynamic numerical analysis of 3D models. Microstrip structures, which are studied theoretically and experimentally, use one multimode resonator and a pair of single-mode resonators. There is fairly good agreement between the calculated data and the data taken on the experimental sample. The relative bandwidth of the manufactured microstrip filter is 60%.

Abstract

Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC) is an important feature of 5G networks which cannot be enabled without redesigning the architecture of cellular networks. While most activities in 3GPP are focused on developing low-layer functionality, such as modulation and coding schemes, OFDMA numerology, fast hybrid automatic repeat request, in the paper, we study the influence of upper-layer functionality — specifically, resource allocation and traffic management algorithms — on URLLC performance. Although such algorithms cannot enable ultra-high reliability and ultra-low latency, with accurate system level simulations we show that the proper choice of such algorithms can significantly improve network capacity for URLLC traffic.

Abstract

Electron multipactor is a major problem in accelerators, both in accelerating cavities associated with dark current and beam induced e-cloud problems, and in RF distribution systems leading to catastrophic damage or in mild cases performance decrease and phase shifting. Laser treatments have been shown experimentally to reduce the Secondary Electron Yield (SEY). A full understanding of the mechanism is desirable, to allow optimisation of the surface morphology. In this poster, the Particle-in-cell (PIC) framework VSim [1] is used to gain this knowledge.

Abstract

A hot topic recently attracted much interest in 3GPP community is ultra reliable low latency communications. While specific protocols for such type of communications are under development, in this paper we evaluate how well we can meet strict quality of service requirements in the current LTE/LTE-Advanced networks. Specifically, we design a new two-step radio resource management algorithm for reliable low latency communications. At the first step, the algorithm forms a high-priority group of users which can be reliably served within the given delay budget. At the second step, the algorithm solves a linear optimization problem and allocates resource blocks to meet quality of service requirements at least for the users from the high-priority group. With simulations, we show that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing ones in terms of goodput, PLR and the number of satisfied users.

Abstract

The exclusive charmonium production process in (P) over barp annihilation with an associated pi 0 meson (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0) is studied in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. The feasibility of measuring this reaction through the J/psi -> e(+) e(-) decay channel with the AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt ((P) over bar ANDA) experiment is investigated. Simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as the background rejection from various sources including the (P) over barp -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0)pi(0) reactions are performed with PANDAROOT, the simulation and analysis software framework of the (P) over bar ANDA experiment. It is shown that the measurement can be done at (P) over bar ANDA with significant constraining power under the assumption of an integrated luminosity attainable in four to five months of data taking at the maximum design luminosity.

Abstract

Baryon-to-meson Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDAs) encoding valuable new information on hadron structure appear as building blocks in the collinear factorized description for several types of hard exclusive reactions. In this paper, we address the possibility of accessing nucleon-to-pion ($��N$) TDAs from $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- ��^0$ reaction with the future PANDA detector at the FAIR facility. At high center of mass energy and high invariant mass squared of the lepton pair $q^2$, the amplitude of the signal channel $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- ��^0$ admits a QCD factorized description in terms of $��N$ TDAs and nucleon Distribution Amplitudes (DAs) in the forward and backward kinematic regimes. Assuming the validity of this factorized description, we perform feasibility studies for measuring $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- ��^0$ with the PANDA detector. Detailed simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as on rejection of the most severe background channel, i.e. $\bar{p}p \to ��^+��^- ��^0$ were performed for the center of mass energy squared $s = 5$ GeV$^2$ and $s = 10$ GeV$^2$, in the kinematic regions $3.0 < q^2 < 4.3$ GeV$^2$ and $5 < q^2 < 9$ GeV$^2$, respectively, with a neutral pion scattered in the forward or backward cone $| \cos��_{��^0}| > 0.5 $ in the proton-antiproton center of mass frame. Results of the simulation show that the particle identification capabilities of the PANDA detector will allow to achieve a background rejection factor of $5\cdot 10^7$ ($1\cdot 10^7$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=5$ GeV$^2$, and of $1\cdot 10^8$ ($6\cdot 10^6$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=10$ GeV$^2$, while keeping the signal reconstruction efficiency at around $40\%$. At both energies, a clean lepton signal can be reconstructed with the expected statistics corresponding to $2$ fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. Abstract

This document describes the technical layout and the expected performance of the Straw Tube Tracker (STT), the main tracking detector of the $\bar{P}$ANDA target spectrometer. The STT encloses a Micro-Vertex-Detector (MVD) for the inner tracking and is followed in beam direction by a set of GEM stations. The tasks of the STT are the measurement of the particle momentum from the reconstructed trajectory and the measurement of the specific energy loss for a particle identification. Dedicated simulations with full analysis studies of certain proton-antiproton reactions, identified as being benchmark tests for the whole $\bar{P}$ANDA scientific program, have been performed to test the STT layout and performance. The results are presented, and the time lines to construct the STT are described.

Abstract

International audience; Various types of reactions and identification techniques were applied in the investigation of formation cross sections and decay properties of transuranium elements. The fusion--evaporation reactions with heavy targets, recoil--separation techniques and identification of nuclei by the parent--daughter generic coincidences with the known daughter‐nuclei after implantation into position--sensitive detectors were the most successful tools for production and identification of the heaviest elements known presently. This technique may be further improved and presently it may be very promising for the identification of new elements, search for new isotopes and measurement of new decay data for the known nuclei. At the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (JINR, Dubna), investigations of the complete fusion reactions leading to the synthesis of heavy and superheavy nuclei with the use of heavy ion beams from a powerful U400 cyclotron have been an important part of the experimental program. It is planned to upgrade U400 cyclotron of the FLNR, to deliver beams with higher intensities and smooth variation of energies. New experimental set up, the velocity filter, is now developing for synthesis and studies of the decay properties of heavy nuclei. At the focal plane of the separator GABRIELA set up (α,β,γ detectors array) will be installed. © 2010 American Institute of Physics

Abstract

To study fundamental questions of hadron and nuclear physics in interactions of antiprotons with nucleons and nuclei, the universal PANDA detector will be built. Gluonic excitations, the physics of strange and charm quarks and nucleon structure studies will be performed with unprecedented accuracy thereby allowing high-precision tests of the strong interaction. The proposed PANDA detector is a state-of-the art internal target detector at the HESR at FAIR allowing the detection and identification of neutral and charged particles generated within the relevant angular and energy range. This report presents a summary of the physics accessible at PANDA and what performance can be expected.

Abstract

Experimental measurements of photodesorption coefficients of H/sub 2/, CH/sub 4/, CO and CO/sub 2/ are being done to obtain data necessary to predict the vacuum performance of the Collider. Experiments have been done or are planned for warm tubes (i.e. room temperature), cold tubes (i.e. 4.2 K) and liner configurations (i.e. 4.2 K, 20 K and 80 K). Two synchrotron radiation beamlines have been constructed on the VEPP-2M storage ring at BINP, Russia. The photon critical energy is 284 eV, as in the SSC Collider, angle of incidence is 10 mrad. To date approximately fifteen warm beam tubes have been tested, including electrodeposited Cu, high purity bulk Cu and Nitronic 40 SS, several cleaning procedures, with and without in-situ baking and with and without magnetic field. The maximum integrated photon dose was achieved was 2/spl middot/10/sup 22/ photons/m on the high intensity beamline. Several experiments have been done on the VUV ring at BNL to check a subset of the BINP data and to extend the integrated photon flux up to 10/sup 23/ photons/m, or 100 days of SSC operation. The data from the warm experiments will be used to evaluate the best tubes to be used in the more time consuming cold experiments. >

Abstract

To study fundamental questions of hadron and nuclear physics in interactions of antiprotons with nucleons and nuclei, the universal PANDA detector will be built. Gluonic excitations, the physics of strange and charm quarks and nucleon structure studies will be performed with unprecedented accuracy thereby allowing high-precision tests of the strong interaction. The proposed PANDA detector is a state-of-the art internal target detector at the HESR at FAIR allowing the detection and identification of neutral and charged particles generated within the relevant angular and energy range. This report presents a summary of the physics accessible at PANDA and what performance can be expected.
