The aim of this research is to determine the extent of benefit of teacher training education of the teacher candidate students who are having pedagogical teacher training education. This research is a quantitative study in general screening model. In the research, a questionnaire formed of 5-point Likert type with 26 items was used. Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the scale was 0,74. 222 teacher candidates participated into the study. The scale items were gathered under sub-dimensions of 'lessons taken by means of distant education, lessons taken by means of face-to-face education, teaching practice process in schools and general assessment of teacher training education'. According to the findings of the research, it was seen that assessments of the teacher candidates relating to the profession were positive. The students preferred face-to-face education to on-line education. Within this process, the importance of teaching practice was detected due to the provision of opportunity for the candidates for putting their theoretical knowledge into practice. No significant difference was seen in the assessments of the teacher training education in terms of gender by the teacher candidates. There was a difference in sub-dimension of 'lessons taken by means of face-to-face education' with respect to the group of History-Geography students. As suggestions, it is anticipated that teacher training education of the teacher candidates should be provided with the face-to-face education freely and courses should be arranged within four years of undergraduate education programs.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the contributions of European Union member countries to Turkey in terms of social and economic aspects of educational policies. Educational program constituted by member countries aim at developing the skills of young people and countribute more to their backgrounds with regards to educational collaboration. As searching for alternative ways of employment became a necessity, member countries (being aware of this serious problem) found themselves in the search for alternative methods by means of devising new programs. European Union develops collaboration among the member countries within a wide range of spectrum ranging from politics to economy. Common politics constitute the main component of this collaboration. Creating partnerships and enabling citizens to know each other via creating interaction in terms of culture, language and understanding, a higher Europe aims to be created where no discrimination exists with regards to race, language, religion, or disability. Through developing these strategies, European awareness aims to be internalised among the citizens. Educational politics is one of the main policies established to realize these objectives. The importance of educational policy has become more important day by day. The reason for this is that "knowledge based economy" has gained importance in Europe in the process of globalisation and "knowledge based Europe" wants to be established within Europe. Developing technology, using alternative technologies, innovative approaches and life long education programs form the basic objectives of the program. This study talks about the history of educational policy in Europe, the aims of the policy, educational and instructional programs and Turkey's participation in these programs. Importance of introducing European Union programs has been emphasized in the study since Turkey is a candidate country and alternative employment opportunities could be provided for the graduates. This study was conducted to take the opinions of both Turkish and German university students about Turks and Turkey in relation to the European Union. The study was participated in by 226 students studying at the Department o f Turkish Translation and Interpreting and Department of Asian Languages at the University ofBonn, Germany, and 270 students studying at the Ataturk Faculty of Education of the Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey. The questionnaire was prepared in Turkish and German languages consisting of 22 items. The questionnaire involves 5 items consisted of personal information and 17 items consisted ofthe opinions of students related to the EU In the personal info section, the participants have been asked about their age, sex, nationality, political tendencies and the foreign languages they know. 7 out of 17 items involve 'yes, no, indecisive, no idea" options. The other 6 items are organized in a way that the participants can choice more than one option. One item is related Turkey's income level. Three questions are open-ended. According to the acquired data, the responses given by both group of students have been interpreted comparatively. According to the results of the study, the German university students are more optimistic than Turkish university students about Turkey's joining the EU Both student groups have very limited knowledge about the EU and are not much interested in Turkey's joining the EU. Bu calismanin amaci, Istanbul’da gorev yapan sorusturma grubundaki il egitim denetmenlerinin disiplin sorusturmalarinda karsilastiklari sorunlarin neler oldugunun incelenmesidir. Arastirma, icerik analiz yonteminin benimsendigi nitel bir calismadir. Arastirmanin calisma grubunu, Istanbul Il Egitim Denetmenleri Baskanligina bagli 77 sorusturma grubunda, ikili olarak gorev yapan 154 il egitim denetmeninden gonullu olarak katilim saglayan 27 il egitim denetmeni olusturmaktadir. Arastirmada, Ozmen ve Sahin (2010) tarafindan hazirlanan, 9 maddelik acik uclu sorulardan olusan veri toplama araci kullanilmistir. Toplanan veriler, icerik analizi yapilarak degerlendirilmistir. Verilerin sunulmasinda konu alanlarina gore frekans sayisi dikkate alinarak siralama yapilmis ve il egitim denetmenlerinin carpici olan gorusleri detayli bir bicimde verilmistir. Sonuc olarak gorevlendirme emirlerinde konularin acik ve net olarak belirtilmemesi ve bilgi-belge eksiklikleri nedeni ile il egitim denetmenleri sikintilar yasamaktadir. Sorusturmanin yurutulmesi asamasinda, sikâyetcilerin kendilerini gizlemeleri ve yanlis adres, isim ve telefon vermeleri, iddialarin genel anlamda duyuma dayanmasi, bilgi ve belgelerle desteklenmemesi, islerin kalitesini dusurmektedir. Bircok konuda mevzuatin birbiriyle celismesi; denetmenler arasinda gorus farkliliklarinin olmasi; uygulamada birlik saglanmamasi, karsilasilan onemli sorunlar olarak gorulmustur.

The purpose of the present study was to determine teachers' perceptions of value based on different variables. In the research, 40 items scale was employed, as a means of data collection including "Portrait Values Scale". This research, conducted in 12 high schools in Kadikoy, Istanbul was designed to investigate 357 teachers of high school who participated in the study. While examining the process of datum through the SPSS statistics package program, descriptive statistical techniques were used. With regards to the teachers' value perception, the teachers considered "security" and "stimulation" value dimensions more important than other values. When the relationship between the value dimensions and the independent variables were examined, there was a significant difference between the gender, age and seniority as well as no difference in "branch" variable. It was recommended that teachers should be more proficient in their practices in the education process to ensure that students get universal values.

In this study, we practically reviewed the negative effects of social networks on today’s youth which became somewhat indispensable to them. The study was based on the university students attending public and private universities and the high-school students. The number of participants included in the study is 894 individuals in total. The study was completed in an eight month period. Within this period, specific student groups were asked to fill in a survey composed of eighty questions on their own free will and choices. While the survey had two sections, the 60 questions in the first section were prepared in a 5-point Likert scale. In the first section, questions towards the use of social networks were answered. The last 20 questions were demographic which were arranged as multiple-choice questions. The data from the survey were analyzed via the statistical program SPSS 15. The results of the analysis and findings were presented as tables and explanations at the end of the study. This study contributes to the understanding of social status and problems experienced by today’s youth related to the social networking web pages. At the end of the research, we came to the conclusion that social networks had a negative effect on the youth.

This study was concerned with the measurement of natural and artificial radionuclides in soil samples and indoor radon concentrations in the Samsun province, Turkey. In soil samples, the values of individual mean activity of (226)Ra, (232)Th, (40)K and (137)Cs radionuclides were found to be 31, 22, 341 and 16 Bq kg(-1), respectively. The radiological parameters, such as the absorbed dose rate in air, the annual effective dose (AED) and excess lifetime cancer risk, were calculated. Indoor radon measurements were carried out with CR-39-based radon dosemeters at 127 dwellings in the Samsun province. The mean annual (222)Rn activity was found to be 106 Bq m(-3) (equivalent to an AED of 1.88 mSv). The seasonal variation of (222)Rn activity shows that maximum levels are observed in the winter, while minimum levels are observed in the summer. The mean lifetime fatality risk for the studied area was estimated at 1.45×10(-4). The results obtained did not significantly differ from those obtained in other parts of the country.

Peker, Huriye Sevinç (Arel Author), Today's rapidly evolving technology is expanding the use of innovative communication technologies and their usage areas. to traditional communication technologies today; smartphones, laptop computers, handheld computers, and tablets are also added. Wireless communication technology removes time and space limits, allowing people to communicate both voiced and visual whenever and wherever they wish. Every day, millions of people communicate with each other through social networking networks and share their experience day by day with other network users. The social networks that people often use are also affecting interpersonal relationships. The purpose of this research is to determine the aims of Turkish and German university students to use social networks and how effective social influence is in interpersonal communication. A total of 338 students, 236 Turkish students studying at Karabuk University and 102 German students studying at Kassel University in Germany, participated in the research in the academic year of 2016-2017. A questionnaire developed by Ozdayi (2010), which will reveal the use of social networks by students as a data collection tool, was used. The questionnaire contains 11 open-ended questions and 13 items of "social effect dimension" of social networks developed as Likert type. Percentages, mean and t test for binary comparison were used as statistical analysis in the study. According to research findings; all students have smartphones and they use whatsapp, facebook and youtube most from social networks. By students, social media is used to look at mails, homework, study, follow current events, read news, communicate with friends, make new friends, get informed about activities, share videos and photos and have fun. Also by students travel, shopping, technology and cinema blogs are the most preferred. In the survey, in the social dimension of social networks; there was no significant difference between the groups regarding "communication, self-expression, staying out of the group, becoming popular, joining groups, getting social environment, getting status in social environment and sharing". On the other hand, social networking has become an important means of communication and interaction among people today. For this reason, academicians should encourage students who are interested in new technology and communication applications to support the achievement of up-to-date information within the context of lifelong learning, and to conduct research for their own development in the teaching-learning process.

Indoor radon concentration measurements were carried out and corresponding annual effective doses due to exposure to indoor radon were determined in Artvin and Ardahan provinces located in the eastern part of Turkey. The measurements were performed for four seasons in order to determine the seasonal fluctuations mostly observed in indoor environments. Indoor radon concentration values were observed to range from 21 to 321 Bq m ‐3 for the Artvin province and from 53 to 736 Bq m ‐3 for the Ardahan province. It was observed that minimum indoor radon concentration values were obtained in summer, while the highest ones were observed in winter. Indoor radon concentration values of the current study were compared with those of other provinces in Turkey. As elevated indoor radon concentrations are mostly correlated with high 238 U activity concentrations in soil, a total of 57 and 33 soil samples were collected from the Artvin and Ardahan provinces, respectively, to determine 238 U activity concentration as well as the concentration of 232 Th and 40 K—naturally occurring radionuclides. It was also observed that soil samples collected from the study areas contained 137 Cs as an artificial radionuclide.

In this study, the struggle against paramilitary organizations and associations founded during the Second Constitutional period when the conception of nation-state and the concept of citizen-militia gained momentum in European states has been scrutinized. The research is a qualitative study based on a document analysis. After the traumas of wars in the Ottoman Empire, which entered the process of rapidly losing the lands spreading over three continents, the education mentality has been re-examined within the framework of citizenship conception. In addition to these inquiries and innovations, which began especially in the military area, they also manifested themselves with educational programs and schools centered on military regimes. This paradigm shift, which accelerated especially with the 18th century, soldier-son themed citizen perception and the current dominant patriarchal moral shave had reflections on education mentality and practice of social structure organized by the state and they turned into bringing up sons as warriors, power-owners and citizens ready to sacrifice for their motherland.ÖzBu çalışmada, Ulus-devlet anlayışının ivme kazandığı Avrupa devletlerinde vatandaş-asker anlayışı ve uygulamasının ön plana geçtiği II. Meşrutiyet yıllarında açılan paramiliter örgüt ve derneklere ilişkin çabalar mercek altına alınmıştır. Araştırma doküman incelemesine dayalı nitel bir çalışmadır. Üç kıtaya yayılan topraklarını hızla kaybetme sürecine giren Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda yaşanan savaş travmalarından sonra vatandaş kavramı çerçevesinde eğitim anlayışı yeniden gözen geçirilmiştir. Özellikle askeri alanda başlayan bu sorgulamalar ve yenilik arayışlarının yanı sıra, yine askeri düzenlemeleri merkeze alan eğitim programları ve okulları ile kendini açıkça belli etmiştir. Özellikle 18. Yüzyılla birlikte hız kazanan bu paradigma değişimi, asker-evlat ana temalı vatandaş algısı ile halihazırda baskın ataerkil değerler, sosyal yapının bu kez devlet eliyle organize edilen eğitim anlayışı ve uygulamalarına yansımış; “savaşçı, erk sahibi, vatana kendini feda etmeye hazır” –özellikle erkek- evlatların yetiştirilmesine dönüşmüştür.

The aim of this study was to learn the opinion of the teacher candidates who study pedagogical formation in Karabuk University in 2016-2017 teaching session, as well as mentor teachers and coordinators who lead them during the teaching practices at schools. This research study is mainly based on qualitative techniques. Working group of this study is composed of 155 teacher candidates, 56 mentor teachers and 16 coordinators. Three open-ended questions were given to the teacher candidates, mentors and coordinators for collection of data. The data were evaluated as in the mean of content analysis. According to the findings, teacher candidates expressed that “mentor teachers and coordinators at schools of implementation had a positive and supportive attitude towards them” while some of the candidates were expressing that “mentor teachers are not supportive.” Mentor teachers and coordinators found teacher candidates’ attitudes positive and refined. Mentor teachers and coordinators mentioned negative references about teacher candidates. They said that teacher candidates didn’t use proper teaching methods, techniques and materials when the teacher candidates are teaching, and failed to manage and maintain classroom atmosphere and the intended lesson time. It is considerable that teacher candidates had also mentioned that “they were doing the same mistakes what their coordinators and teachers determined.” As a result, teaching practice schedules should be well arranged in the way of cooperation between the University and the National Ministry of education, which was suggested to the authorities in the Turkish Higher Education Board.

Monitoring of radon in underground mines is important in order to assess the radiological hazards to occupational workers. Radon concentration levels in three underground lignite mines (Tunçbilek, Omerler and Eynez) of Turkey were obtained in this study. For this reason, atmospheric radon level measurements were carried out in mines using CR-39 track detectors. Chemical etching of the detector tracks and subsequent counting were performed at Cekmece Nuclear Research and Training Center. The obtained results were evaluated according to the International Commission of Radiation Protection and the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority whose radon action levels for workplaces are 500-1500 and 1000 Bq(-3), respectively. The radon gas concentrations in the lignite mines were determined to be between 50 +/- 7 and 587 +/- 16 Bq m(-3). The results obtained in these experiments are far under the action levels. The computed radon doses for the mine workers of Tunçbilek, Omerler and Eynez lignite mines are 1.23, 2.44 and 1.47 mSv y(-1), respectively.

In this study, the activity concentrations of some radionuclides in tap water samples of the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey were measured. The activity concentrations of radionuclides (214)Pb, (214)Bi, (40)K, (226)Ra and (137)Cs were determined using high resolution gamma ray spectrometry. Furthermore, (222)Rn activity concentrations in tap water samples were measured using Liquid Scintillation Counting. The mean specific activities of (214)Pb, (214)Bi, (226)Ra, (40)K, (137)Cs and (222)Rn in tap water samples were 6.73, 6, 19.16, 168.57, 5.45 mBq l(-1) and 10.82 Bq l(-1), respectively. These values are comparable with concentrations reported for other countries. The effective doses were determined due to intake of these radionuclides as a consequence of direct consumption of tap water samples. The estimated effective doses were 6.878 x 10(-4) microSv y(-1) for (214)Pb, 4.800 x 10(-4) microSv y(-1) for (214)Bi, 3.916 microSv y(-1) for (226)Ra, 0.763 microSv y(-1) for (40)K, 0.052 microSv y(-1) for (137)Cs and 5.848 microSv y(-1) for (222)Rn.

Bu araştırma, ilköğretim okullarında çalışan yöneticilerin zaman yönetimine ilişkin algı düzeylerini tespit etmeye yöneliktir. Bu araştırma genel tarama modelinde nicel bir çalışmadır. Bu araştırmanın çalışma evrenini, İstanbul- Bağcılar, Avcılar, Esenyurt ve Bahçelievler belediye sınırları içinde bulunan 249 ilköğretim okulunda çalışan 632 müdür ve müdür yardımcısı oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından "zaman yönetimi" ile ilgili 5'li Likert tipinde geliştirilmiş olan 24 maddelik bir anket kullanılmıştır. Anketin Cronbach's Alpha iç tutarlık katsayısı 0,933'tür. Anketten elde edilen veriler, SPSS 20 istatistik programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Zaman yönetimi ile ilgili açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonuçlarına göre yöneticilerin zaman yönetimi algıları dört alt boyutta toplanmıştır. Bu alt boyutlar; "zamanı planlama, zamanı değerlendirme, zaman yetersizliği ve kişisel ilişkiler" olarak isimlendirilmiştir. Faktör alt boyutları ile bağımsız değişkenler olarak cinsiyet, okulda çalışan öğretmen sayısı, mesleki deneyim, okulda geçen yöneticilik süresi ve eğitim düzeyi arasında farklılıklara bakılmıştır. Buna göre iki gruplu karşılaştırmalarda t testi, ikiden fazla bağımsız grupların karşılaştırılmasında tek yönlü ANOVA ve anlamlı değişkenler için LSD testi uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, yöneticilerin en fazla zamanını alan konular "zamanı planlama", en az zaman ayırdıkları konular ise, " kişisel ilişkiler" ile ilgilidir. Bu bulgular yapılan diğer araştırma bulguları ile de desteklenmektedir, The objective of this research, a quantitative study in a general scanning model, is to explore the state primary school administrators' perceptions, concerning the concept of time management. The population of the study is composed of 632 principals and assistant principals at 249 primary schools in İstanbul-Bağcılar, Avcılar, Esenyurt, and Bahçelievler municipal boundaries in Turkey. In the study, a survey, including 24 questions on time management, has been prepared in accordance with a 5 point Likert scale. Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency value has been 0,933. Data obtained in the study have been analysed with SPSS 20 statistical programme. According to the factor analysis results, the administrators' perceptions as to time management have been categorized under four rubrics: planning time, making use of time, insufficient time, and personal relations. In the study, the t test has been designed to facilitate a comparative analysis in the two groups, one way analysis of variance, ANOVA, has been conducted for a comparative analysis among the independent groups; LSD test has been used to elicit the significant variables. According to the results, it has been observed that planning time has taken too much of the staff's time whilst personal relations have taken the least

Neoliberal Egitim Politikalari ve Egitimde Firsat Esitligi Baglaminda Uluslararasi Sinavlarin (PISA, TIMSS ve PIRLS) AnaliziOzEkonomi ve egitim iliskisi bircok arastirmaya konu olmus ve egitim sureclerinin ekonomik politikalara hizmet etmesi kabul edilen bir olgudur. Kapital sistemin olusturdugu esitsiz yaris sisteminin yeniden olusturucusu yine egitim surecleri olarak dusunulmektedir. Egitimin dunya genelinde belirli bir standarda ulasip, bircok ulkede benzer politikalar ile pazar ekonomisine hizmet edecek yapiya kavusturulmasi neoliberal politikalarin bir amaci oldugu dusunulmektedir. Ulkeler arasinda benzer egitim politikalari olusturmanin etkili bir yolu gunumuzde yapilan uluslararasi sinavlardir. TIMSS, PISA ve PIRLS gibi sinavlar ulkelerin egitim karnelerini ve iliskili bircok degiskeni ulkelerin gundemine getirerek reform yapma gereksinimi algisi olusturmaktadir. Her ne kadar uluslararasi sinavlarin raporlarinda egitim esitsizligin giderilip ogrenciler arasindaki farkin kapatilmasi yonunde tavsiyeler barindirsa bile ulkelerin egitim reformlarinda ozellestirmeye gitmeleri ve degisimi takip eden ogretmen kalitesinin farklilik gostermesi nedeniyle ogrenci basarisindaki aci daha da buyumektedir. Bu arastirmanin amaci da bu sorunlari literatur cercevesinde islemektir. Boylece hizli reformlarin oldugu ulkemizde degisim adimlarinin daha hesapli atilmasinda katki saglanmasi umulmaktadir.

In this work, indoor radon radioactivity concentration levels have been measured in dwellings of Turkey within the frame of the National Radon Monitoring Programme. The (222)Rn concentrations were measured with time-integrating passive nuclear etched track detectors in 7293 dwellings in 153 residential units of 81 provinces, and the radon map of Turkey was prepared. Indoor radon concentrations were distributed in the range of 1-1400 Bq m(-3). The arithmetic mean of the radon gas concentration was found to be 81 Bq m(-3); the geometric mean was 57 Bq m(-3) with a geometric standard deviation of 2.3.

Lifelong learning capability of teachers is a factor which supports career development of teachers. The model of the research was descriptive survey. The research was carried out with 184 teachers who participated in the summer seminar organized by the Turkish Ministry of National Education for primary school teachers in 2011 summer. Questionnaires were used to collect data. Lifelong Learning Scale were developed by researchers. Validity of the survey was ensured by consulting to expert opinion. Cronbach's alpha reliability of lifelong learning scale of these research was .823. Concerning the analysis of data, average, percentage, t test and one-way ANOVA, Tukey HSD and Mann-Whitney U test were used as statistical technique. According to the results of the survey, teachers didn't utilize enough information technologies. Only a few teachers used computer to prepare lessons and improve themselves in professional terms. Yet, it was understood that young teachers made endeavor to improve themselves. Organizational support was also required to ensure professional development of teachers. (C) 2013 The Authors. Gamma background radiation measurements were made in the region of Kestanbol Spa, the outdoor and indoor air radon concentrations were measured in Kestanbol Spa and in about 50 houses of Koruktasi village, which is located at 1 km from the Spa. The results were evaluated from a radiological point of view. The total annual effective dose received from natural sources by the inhabitants of the village and the workers at the Spa were calculated and compared with the total annual effective dose received by the inhabitants of Istanbul.

This study assesses the results of environmental radioactivity measurements for Bayburt Province in the Eastern Black Sea area of Turkey. Using gamma-ray spectrometry, activity concentrations of the natural radionuclides (226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K and a fission product (137)Cs were investigated in soil samples. The activity concentrations of (226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K in various building materials such as sand, cement and marble and in drinking waters were determined. The activity concentrations vary from 16 to 54 Bq kg(-1) for (226)Ra, from 10 to 21 Bq kg(-1) for (232)Th and from 113 to 542 Bq kg(-1) for (40)K in building materials. The mean specific activity concentrations of (226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K in drinking waters were 93, 30 and 504 mBq l(-1), respectively. The concentrations of gross alpha and beta radioactivity in drinking water samples collected from four different sampling stations have been determined. The results show that the gross alpha and beta activities are lower than the screening levels given by the World Health Organization (WHO), which are a maximum contaminant level of 0.5 Bq l(-1) and 1.0 Bq l(-1) gross alpha and beta radioactivity, respectively, in drinking water. Indoor radon measurements were made in 44 dwellings in Bayburt by using Cr-39 detectors. Radon concentrations in dwellings in Bayburt varied from 17 to 125 Bq m(-3) and the average value was 56 Bq m(-3). The results obtained in this study indicate that the region has a background radiation level that is within the typical natural range and shows no significant departures from other parts of the country.

Indoor radon activity level and radon effective dose (ED) rate have been carried out in the rural dwellings of Ezine (Canakkale) during the summer season using Radosys-2000, a complete set suitable to radon concentration measurements with CR-39 plastic alpha track detectors. The range of radon concentration varied between 9 and 300 Bq m −3 , with an average of 67.9 (39.9 SD) Bq m −3 . Assuming an indoor occupancy factor of 0.8 and 0.4 for the equilibrium factor of radon indoors, it has been found that the 222 Rn ED rate in the dwellings studied ranges from 0.4 to 5.2 mSv y −1 , with an average value of 1.7 (1.0) mSv y −1 . There is a possibility that low radon concentrations exist indoors during the summer season in the study area because of relatively high ventilation rates in the dwellings. A winter survey will be needed for future estimation of the annual ED.

PubMedID: 18469346 The indoor radon concentration in Adana, Turkey was measured in living rooms of 52 houses during winter 2005 and 57 houses during summer 2005. Forty-four houses were selected for both winter and summer researches for estimating seasonal variations. Indoor radon concentrations were measured seasonally over hotter and colder 2 months over the whole year, using CR-39 passive nuclear track radon detectors. The radon concentrations were ranged from 15 to 97 Bq m-3 on January-February 2005 for 60 d and from 5 to 70 Bq m-3 on June-July 2005 for 60 d. The average summer concentration measured was 25.8 Bq m-3 and the average winter concentration was 48.9 Bq m-3 in 44 houses that observed seasonal variations. The differences between winter and summer periods were ranged from 1 to 77 Bq m-3. The average value in both winter and summer periods is 37 Bq m-3 in 44 houses that observed seasonal variations. This value is below the worldwide indoor radon concentration distribution of 46 Bq m-3. The annual effective dose equivalent from 222Rn was 0.9 mSv y-1. © The Author 2008. WOS: 000256524600016, PubMed: 17616544, The Catalagzi Thermal Power Plant (CTPP) (41(0)30'48.4(')N and 0.31(0)53'41.5(')E) is located at nearly 13 km North-east of Zonguldak city, which is located at the West Black Sea coast in Turkey. The middling products with high ash content of bituminous coals are used in this plant. Seasonal radon concentration measurements have been carried out by using CR-39 plastic track detectors in and around the CTPP. The annual average radon concentration has been found to vary from a minimum of 39.8 +/- 28.9 Bq m(-3) in the ash area to a maximum of similar to 75.0 +/- 15.7 Bq m(-3) in the service building of the power plant. The annual average radon concentration in the dwellings of the thermal power plant colony of the plant is 71.0 +/- 33.4 Bq m(-3). The effective dose has been found to vary from 0.38 to 0.71 mSv y(-1) with a mean value of 0.56 mSv y(-1), which is lower than the effective dose values 3-10 mSv given as the range of action levels recommended by International Commission on Radiological Protection: Protection against radon-222 at home and at work, ICRP Publication 65 (1993).

The seasonal variations of the indoor radon activity concentrations were determined in the 97 dwellings of Trabzon, Turkey. The annual average indoor radon activity concentration varied from 8 to 583 Bq/m3. The average winter/summer ratio of radon activity concentrations was 3.62. The gamma activity concentrations in the soil samples were determined as 41, 38, 443 and 25 Bq/kg for 226Ra, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs, respectively. The average gamma dose rate in air and the annual effective dose equivalent for outdoor occupancy were calculated as 63 nGy/h and 77 μSv/y, respectively.

There are ~20 caves of limestone origin in Zonguldak (Turkey). In this study, the results of atmospheric radon measurements performed for two caves are presented. These caves, Gökgöl and Cehennemagzi, are open to tourism. Gökgöl Cave is the longer, at nearly 3200 m in length. Cehenennemazi is a pit-type cave with a total length of 85 m. The radon measurements were performed for 2 months between July 2004 and September 2004 using passive polycarbonate detectors. The mean radon concentrations were recorded as 1918.8 Bq m-3 in Gökgöl Cave and 657 Bq m-3 in Cehennemazi Cave. The maximum value corresponds to a site located 400 m from the entrance of Gökgöl Cave. Mean effective dose values for tourists of 0.86 µSv per visit to Cehennemazi Cave and 3.76 µSv to Gökgöl Cave were obtained. In this study, the results of atmospheric radon measurements that were performed for the Amasra underground coal mine in Zonguldak bituminous coal basin (Turkey) are presented. The radon measurements were performed for 40 days between November 2004 and December 2004 using passive nuclear etched track detectors. The radon concentrations vary from a minimum value 49 Bq m-3 in a site located at +40 m to a maximum value 223 Bq m-3 in a site located at -100 m. Mean concentration is 117 (Bq m-3). This value is well below the action level of 500-1500 Bq m-3 recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) (1993). The mean effective dose value for workers of this mine of 3.4 µSv per day was obtained. This result shows that protection against radiological hazards would not be necessary for workers of this mine(2). © 2006 Oxford University Press.

The present work investigated the radioactivity level of the granitoid plutons and its effect on the groundwaters in the southeast part of Eskisehir. Fourteen granitic samples from the Kaymaz and Sivrihisar plutons and 11 groundwater samples from the near vicinity of the pluton were analyzed. The activity concentrations measured for (238)U and (232)Th ranged from 43.59+/-2 to 651.80+/-24 Bq/kg, and 51.16+/-3 to 351.94+/-13 Bq/kg, respectively. The activity concentrations obtained for (40)K varied from 418.50+/-17 to 1618.03+/-66 Bq/kg. The absorbed dose rates in air outdoors ranged from 87.14 to 531.81 nGy/h. All the results obtained from the Kaymaz pluton are higher than those from the Sivrihisar. The U (ave. 16.6 ppm) and Th (ave. 49.9 ppm) values of the Kaymaz pluton are higher than the average concentrations of the magmatic rocks of granitic composition. These results are consistent with high dose rates of the pluton. The gross-alpha activities in the groundwater samples ranged from 0.009 to 1.64 Bq/l and the gross-beta activities from 0.006 to 0.89 Bq/l. The highest gross-alpha value was found in the sample taken from near the Kaymaz pluton. The concentrations of (222)Rn varied from 0.060 to 0.557 Bq/l.

Ogretmenlerin kisilik ozelliklerini belirlemek amaciyla Benet-Martinez ve John (1998) tarafindan gelistirilen ve Turkce uyarlamasi Sumer ve Sumer (2005) tarafindan yapilan “Bes Faktor Envanteri (BFI)” kullanilmistir. “Bes Faktor Envanteri (BFI)” nin Alpha guvenirlik katsayisi ,699’dur. Arastirma sonucunda, ogretmenlerin kisilik ozelliklerinde en yuksek ortalamanin gelisime aciklik, en dusuk ortalamanin da duygusal denge (nevrotiklik) alt boyutunda oldugu tespit edilmis, ayrica ogretmenlerin kisilik ozellikleri ile demografik degiskenler arasinda anlamli farkliliklar bulunmustur. Buna gore cinsiyet degiskeni ile ozdisiplin, disa donukluk, uyumluluk ve nevrotiklik alt boyutu arasinda; yas degiskeni ile ozdisiplin ve nevrotiklik arasinda; medeni durum ile gelisime aciklik, ozdisiplin, uyumluluk arasinda; brans degiskeni ile gelisime aciklik ve disa donukluk arasinda anlamli farkliliklar gorulmustur.
