A rapid and facile method for detecting profenofos is crucial for environmental surveillance and ensuring product quality. Electrochemical sensing, as appears presents significant potential as a nascent technology for profenofos detection in recent years. Herein, NiO-CuO bimetallic modified graphene paste electrode/TiO2 was developed for the detection of profenofos over cyclic voltammetry technique. The TiO2@NiO-CuO were synthesized through the sol-gel method and characterized by various analyses such as SEM, XRD, and FTIR and electrochemical techniques. The superior electrochemical properties of the suggested GPE/TiO2@NiO-CuO were demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry investigations performed in Fe(CN)64-/3- solution. The electrode performance of GPE/TiO2 doped with NiO-CuO towards K3FeCN6 solution is notably enhanced compared to GPE/TiO2 undoped. Doping notably increased the conductivity of the GPE/TiO2, leading to a performance enhancement in the electrocatalytic activity and detection sensitivity of profenofos. Under optimum conditions, the GPE/TiO2@NiO-CuO demonstrated an impressively low detection limit of 0.00132 µg/L, coupled with a favorable detection range spanning from 1.0 μg/L to 10 μg/L with correlation coefficient R² = 0.992. Moreover, the electrode demonstrates remarkably very good stability, and repeatability with %RSD is only 0.94% over 11 repeated measurements. These results signify that GPE/TiO2@NiO-CuO for detecting profenofos, demonstrates exceptional excellent linearity, repeatability, and promising sensitivity for pesticide detection. The utilization of waste transformer oil (WTO) for combustion applications can offer significant potential to generate thermal energy and reduce industrial waste disposal. This study focuses on the development of a burner system designed to utilize WTO as an alternative fuel blended with 30% biodiesel and 70% diesel (B30) to produce thermal energy for various applications in industrial processes. Moreover, the economic feasibility and performance test were explored to provide an overview of the economically designed burner system and inform that WTO blended with B30 is suitable for an environmentally friendly alternative fuel. The development combustor consists of a vertical metal tube cylinder supplied with pressurized air from a blower. Secondary air flow was also provided at the tip of the burner for complete combustion of the fuel. Various test scenarios were conducted to optimize combustion and emission performance. The combustion temperature of the fuel was measured at the tip of the burner, while the emissions gases were recorded at 150 cm above the burner tip. Based on the experimental results, it is shown that the developed burner system can effectively burn the WTO blended B30 to produce thermal with low emissions gases. The maximum combustion temperature reached by the burner is 979°C, achieved with a combustion mixture consisting of 30%:70% WTO/B30 (v/v). The economic feasibility of the developed burner system was very useful and inexpensive to be developed at household or industrial scales and emissions from the combustion process are relatively low, with no significant environmental or health risks. This paper investigates the role of Islamic faith‐based organisations (FBOs) in Indonesia and examines the way in which their disaster recovery aid can be successful or less successful depending on social capital formation in communities affected by a disaster. The paper argues that Islamic FBOs play a prominent role in disaster‐affected communities by building new social capital or strengthening existing social capital. Failure to do so may affect a community's recovery and its long‐term resilience. Applying a framework that considers three types of social capital—bonding, bridging, and linking—from a comparative perspective, the paper discusses two cases of disaster recovery: one following the earthquake that struck Aceh in 2013; and the other after the Mount Kelud volcanic eruptions in East Java in 2014. In both instances, the findings highlight the importance of the village facilitator, cultural sensitivity, and understanding of local indigenous and religious practices for successful disaster recovery. Recent policy discourse on the localisation of disaster management and humanitarian assistance lacks attention to the culture, history, and traditions of the Global South. This special issue of Disasters argues that it is imperative to recognise the dynamic, interactive, contested, and negotiated nature of local knowledge. Such local knowledge saves lives by enabling responders to situate ad hoc, one‐off events such as disasters in the broader and deeper context of community relationships, thereby providing more appropriate and more effective aid. Through the cases of China, Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines, this special issue examines such dynamic local knowledge using an analytical framework consisting of three manifestations of local knowledge, namely: social capital; contextual historical memories; and adaptation to new ideas. These three manifestations show the ways in which local knowledge creates local capacity, via which local, national, and international disaster respondents can centre their response coordination, and in turn, demonstrate how local capacity reformulates local knowledge. In light of the escalating population growth within Indonesia's coastal regions, there is a corresponding surge in the demand for fresh water and sanitation facilities. Addressing this challenge, the deployment of membrane-based desalination technology emerges as a viable solution to augment the fresh water supply for coastal communities. This study delves into the application of titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a material in membrane-based desalination processes--namely, electrodialysis (ED) and reverse osmosis (RO)--synthesized through an integrated approach that encompasses technological, environmental, social, and economic perspectives. Specifically, this approach is tailored for implementation among the Bajau Tribe in Pasikuta Village, located in the Southeast Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. The methodology encompasses technological research and a systematic literature review, supplemented by membrane design, desalination technology analysis, and a bibliometric study based on Scopus data. The findings reveal that the development of a simplified desalination system, which combines the ED-RO techniques utilizing TiO2-modified membranes, exhibits promising potential for adoption in coastal communities. Moreover, this system is characterized by its minimal impact on the marine ecosystem, thereby facilitating its straightforward and cost-effective application through the integration of photovoltaic (PV) technology for harnessing renewable energy. Crucially, the success of this desalination technology's community-based application hinges on community engagement, educational initiatives, and enhancements in community income levels, thereby establishing a sustainable model for mitigating water scarcity and reducing environmental repercussions. The research aimed to investigate the efficacy of fermented Mamasa honey with Lacticaseibacillus casei strain NC1 as a potential treatment for diabetes mellitus, considering the high prevalence rate of 10.8 million patients in Indonesia and the challenges posed by expensive and less effective diabetes treatments. Methodologically, the study involved fermenting honey with L. casei strain NC1 and evaluating its antidiabetic properties and antioxidant activity. Encouragingly, the results of this study revealed notable outcomes -- the fermented honey exhibited significant antidiabetic activity, particularly evident at an optical density (OD) of 0.75 after 72 h of incubation, hence surpassing the efficacy of the positive control (acarbose). Additionally, the antioxidant testing demonstrated strong antioxidant potential, with the highest activity observed in black honey at the same OD and incubation period. The fermented honey demonstrated significant antidiabetic activity, with the highest effectiveness observed at an OD of 0.75 after 72 h of incubation. The antidiabetic activity reached 20006.3%, hence surpassing the efficacy of the positive control (acarbose), which only achieved 639.8%. The antioxidant testing of the fermented honey also yielded positive results, with the highest activity observed in black honey at OD 0.75 after 72 h of incubation. The antioxidant activity was recorded at 199.1%, hence indicating strong antioxidant potential. In this work, we aim to study and improve the electrochemical performance of a unique thin film-structured composite nitrogen-doped graphene (NGr) combined with NiO/TiO2 hollow nanospheres coupled by synergistic hydrothermal method. NGr@NiO/TiO2 nanocomposites have been successfully synthesized as indicated by their characteristics through several rational characterization techniques such as the morphological shape of NiO/TiO2 hollow nanospheres that are evenly distributed on the surface of N-graphene with particle distribution in the range of 79.78–362.13 nm with an average diameter of 130 nm. In addition, the crystal structures of carbon from NGr, NiO, and TiO2 (anatase and rutile) have been confirmed and proven by spectra showing the presence of C–N stretching primary amides (1400 cm−1), Ni–O stretching (700 cm−1) and Ti–O–Ti bond (425 cm−1), respectively. To enhance the performance of cyclic voltammetry (CV) in electrochemical testing, adjustments are made to parameters such as cycle effect, scan rate, and composition, ensuring the production of reversible voltammograms under each condition. The results indicate that reversible voltammograms are observed under each condition, with a composite ratio of 80:15:5 (wt%). Slower scan rates are associated with higher specific capacity (Cps), with the Cps values for the NGr@NiO/TiO2 electrode being 741.02 F/g (80:10:10), 408.53 F/g (80:5:10), and 839.83 F/g (80:15:5), respectively. However, the highest Cps is recorded for NGr@NiO at 1959.71 F/g. Based on these findings, it is revealed that further comprehensive electrochemical testing of the NGr@NiO/TiO2 nanocomposite is necessary, to fully explore its potential and applicability in the development of alkaline ion batteries (AIBs) such as Li/Na/K.
